Think you're supposed to lubricate the aircon O rings with the same oil that is added to the aircon gas. That's what I used when I changed my condensers. It was PAG46 for use with R134a gas. Not sure how important it is... Keep up the good work, really interesting. Going to try doing some if the engine/gearbox dismantling on mine when I get a lift and somewhere to put it.

Hi, thanks for your message. I was wondering if I had done the right thing when putting those AC pipes back together. I saw Mat Armstrong using a purple paste when doing his Ferrari, and he was pretty liberal with it. I am concerned that I might have leaks again when I re-gas it.

@@My911 Isn't the only purpose of lubing those o-rings is to help make sure the o-ring doesn't bind and move out of place while pushing in the fittings? So if you're o-rings are seated correctly now there is nothing to worry about. Correct me if I'm wrong....

This is a very timely video for me. Went for first proper drive out this weekend in the first proper weather we’ve had and…no A/C! So all the parts will now need to be ordered. D911 seem to have a package deal. Thanks for the how to and look forward to seeing the finished article!

Hi, thanks for your message. Mine leaked at the joint in the pipes just behind/forward of the rear RHS wheel. Both pipes have a join there and it’s the lowest part of the system to the ground. So salt had got in the joint and corroded the seat of the o-ring and caused a gap in the seal. Do bear in mind that both pipes fit together and to the car with such accuracy that there is very little play at all in the fittings. So check the compressor first. Have a think about buying the Bentley Manual for the 996 it’s well worth it.

Indy who serviced it last time reckons condensers look wet and likely to be those but I’ve ordered an extra couple of o-rings and will check the joints in the pipes at the same time
