  • I bought a Watersnake electric motor for my Hobie Pro Angler. Here is my review of what the product provides a kayak angler.

Fill the cassette with foam to keep the unit straight and avoid the shaft from rotating

I have the same set up on my PA14 and my legs are either side of kayak relaxing 👍🏼 No holding the motor between my feet at all because I have screwed 3/4 inch pipe saddle on top of the drive well Cassette close to the back near me sitting & with a 6 mm bungee cord I’ve tied it through the pipe saddle to make a loop then place it over the steering handle. Hey Presto no more wandering 👍🏼

And if I need to move sideways to make a parallel stop or turn on a dime I just pop the bungee off the handle and operate with my hand 👍🏼

I just purchased a 50 AH lithium ion polymer battery from FPV after 8 hours at about mid speed running for most of the day still had 50% charge left and only weighs 3.5KG approx 7lbs, that helps re the speed as weight is at a minimum. I have a 34lb watersnake and get no vibration at all its all about the setup.

@@stevebrown5742 as per the seller advice, lithium battery is not recommended to use on this venom 34lb thrust trolling motor. Please share your thoughts about it. Did you face any problem using the lithium battery?

For the rotation, you could drill a hole in the side and use a dowel or pin to hold it in place.
You could also use expanding foam to fill the plug and avoid water getting in there

Do you go with the watersnake because it can go through where you put the fins

Thanks for the upfront review! I'm in the market for one. Only 2 speeds is not good but having to hold it in place is unacceptable IMO.

Wow... I get 5km/h max on my outback... which is around 3 miles an hour. It's impressive to see that on PA.

Have you figured out how to remove this without taking it out water I built it but when I stop and try to remove it the prop is side ways every time and does not come out

Why would you use a giant lead battery or fill the cassette with foam or resign to get it still ?

Trolling motors need to register ? Or just can use without registration.

I love when I hear people complaining about open connections on a DC battery in water. Broh, it doesn't matter, it wont do a damn thing. I'll jump in a bath tub with that battery and stick my ding dong on it if that will make you feel better. 12VDC will not shock you no matter what you do. Look on youtube there are tons of videos of people dunking their hands in water then touching both sides of a car battery with both hands. DC and AC voltage are not the same thing, especially at 12v instead of 120v. You're fine.

i think that wet 12v terminals battery won't give u an electric shock but can short cut the battery and cause fire or maybe explosion

I’d hate to add another 70lbs to the yak for this mod, looks cool though.

70lbs! Why not just buy a 23lb 100AH lithium ion battery and the motor only weighs like 6.5lbs… 30lbs MAX going into this setup
