  • I love driving with Autopilot in the countryside, so thought I'd film it for you. Also, apologies about the camera shake- I will fix for next time (GoPro's work best).
    On November 5th, 5 people were killed in a terrible accident in Daylesford, our closest town. The local community has really been shaken by this and we will continue to remember them.

    Love driving on autopilot so much. It makes it the drive to and from work etc. so easy. When I first got the car 15 months ago, I got lots of phantom braking. But over time, that has completely gone away. Now I leave autopilot on nearly all the time when driving on open roads. Driving the old way seems so much work now!

      That's awesome to hear Nick !! I have noticed some big improvements over these past few years as well, and couldn't live without it now. It's very underrated.

      hi Nick, has autopilot improved due to your time driving? Or just via updates to software? Curious to hear if its like 'machine learning' or just a code fix..

    This video was very helpful! Thank you Ryan mate! This will help with the grandparents decision, and education of the self driving systems that are available. Will wait until later until later on before considering that insane expense.

    I love using autopilot, but I usually only use it when I feel like there's enough room around me. The trouble is, I just don't trust other drivers. For example, when on a multi-lane freeway at high speed, I see people slightly drifting out of their lane without realising it way too often, and it's really hard to tell whether my car will accommodate for that when autopilot is on and it's automatically maintaining my lane. A great automated system sadly cannot account for other bad drivers.

    • @RyanCowan
      @RyanCowan  6 місяців тому +2

      I've noticed this exact same thing !! And find it very frustrating-and wishing other drivers had AP to keep them in their lanes as well 😂 AP will often freak (understandably) when someone comes into our lane.

    I use Autopilot at least 2 hrs a day (Uber driving) - I use it as much as possible to take the weight of concentration and stress off myself. Ill even use it between lights, cos its got more eyes on the road than me and its watching other cars around me.
    I CAN NOT WAIT till V12!!! - No more worrying for intersections!!

    I have a model 3 and I LOVE Autopilot, you're very right when saying it allows you to focus more on other things like, situational awareness. One thing I would really like Tesla to do is upgrade their rear traffic / pedestrian mitigation. Our other car is a Mazda CX5 and loud alarms go off well before a pedestrian is even close to the car. Tesla's very quiet chime that sometime works is a little underwhelming. Thanks Ryan!

    Thanks Ryan- another good video. I would be really keen to hear your experience driving in tunnels with Basic Autopilot- I live in Sydney, I have read mixed reviews around how it goes with the overhead lights and interpreting them. But otherwise, I am 1000 kms into a model Y RWD and loving the car!

    Lovely video Ryan! If I may, I think it would make more sense for a driving video to primarily show the driving camera, if that makes sense. Like, the camera view you have on the top right should be swapped with the main middle view imho. This video doesn't tell us that much about the drive as it is

    Autopilot is one of the main things I am looking forward to when our MY finally arrives. Especially for trips like tonight where we are driving from Bendigo to Melbourne and back.
    Our EDD window was meant to begin this week but due to "biosecurity measures", it has been pushed out to the start of December.
    Every long trip I take is making me just a little bit sadder each time.
    The Wall connector was installed on Monday so we are pretty much ready to go!
    I wonder how AP would go on the windy bit just as you are coming into Daylesford from Ballarat?

      So excited for you mate (sorry to hear about the delays though!). You'll love using AP. Takes a little bit to get used to it, but once you gain confidence in it, it's a game changer. Easily best system on the market. And we've driven in high winds on the Hume before and doesn't have an issue. Drives better than me 😂

    Nice vid as usual. Going through townships with speed changes, it seems the cameras can see the speed but does not slow down all the time, or at least 60% of the time it works. I got a $500 fine and lost 3 demerit points going from 80kph to 60kph through a Tailem Bend (expensive MLB trip) pointing out an old school and noticed and tapped the speed indicator too late. The slow down seems to slow down as you pass the speed sign, not prior when you see it. Contacted Tesla and they pointed to the Autopilot as Beta and not to entirely rely on it at this stage. Disappointing that nothing was done. Hence me now telling my experience on social media. But they will get there and I use Autopilot whenever I can, a great addition.

      We travelled down from Renmark in South Australia and a crow flew past from left to right as we were doing 110kph. Autopilot picked it up and slowed just enough to allow the bird to go by. Unfortunately a number of blue-tongue lizards didn’t make it.

    I use it everywhere too. Country roads to Mansfield and beyond. I don't trust it yet with higher speed sharper bends though. It doesnt always change speeds down or up on speed limit changes through towns but if you give the accelerator a tap on speedlimit increase it often changes up. A bit inconsistent ATM. Love it though.

Have you done a detailed video on autopilot for beginners. I’ve had my Y since July, but so far I have found autopilot troublesome. Tell us more, please.

    I picked up my MY yesterday and have the 3 month trial of Enhanced Autopilot and already I love it. Even adaptive cruise is a game changer, but the self drive feature is so pleasant, I can concentrate on road conditions more and leave the braking and maintaining the speed to the car. The only thing I am still adjusting to is it drives closer to the left side more than I normally would.
    On another note, a little off topic, but I have had issue with opening the car with sentry mode on. I need to use my phone to unlock the car, is there a setting to override this, or is this a known issue?

So with the referral you get $750 back off the price plus 3 months of enhanced auto pilot. The referrer gets 10,000 points of which they can spend on the Telstra shop. I think the 3 month trial costs about 8000 points.

    If you tap the brake because you are avoiding something on the road for example, would that disengage AP and then engage regen braking, causing quite aggressive braking?

    All the improvements you mentioned are cool but I want Tesla to look at the basics of auto pilot! Winding roads in the Forrest with nobody around is good but here in Belgium we are champion in traffic jams and there are things that can be better. Autopilot is very slow in detecting a jam and waits to long to break so the cars behind me are surprised and have to slam there brakes to avoid a collision. Once you in a jam the car waits to long to move forward, leave on a high speed only to close 10 meter and then breaks again to hard. This makes me to not use autopilot in traffic jams.
    Thans for your videos!

    • @RyanCowan
      @RyanCowan  6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for the comment mate ! And fair point you make. We personally find AP very useful in traffic jams here in Australia but it certainly could be improved ! Never good to feel like the car is late to brake.

      It is a setting as replied by Ryan.
      Autopilot Settings
      Before you use Autopilot features, customize how they work by touching Controls > Autopilot.
      Set Speed: Choose whether Autopilot engages at the currently detected speed limit or your current driving speed. Touch Controls > Autopilot > Set Speed and choose either Speed Limit or Current Speed.
      Offset: If you choose Speed Limit, you can specify an offset by touching Set Speed Offset. You can choose Fixed (the cruising speed adjusts by a specific amount on all roads) or Percentage (the cruising speed is adjusted as a percentage of the road's detected speed limit).

    • @bondanoz
      @bondanoz 6 місяців тому

      @@ea3928 I understand that, but what I'm talking about is if for example I'm in an 80 zone and it changes to 100, the car continues at 80. The Max speed doesn't increase on its own and vice versa. If I'm in a 100 zone and the speed limit drops to 80, the car will stay at 100 max.
