    Showing the whole process is extremely helpful, good or bad. I can't tell you how many times I have looked a forum posts and other videos and all you see is a beautiful before and after tank. Showing the hobby what it takes to have a great looking tank is important so it can help newer hobbyist and give them a realistic expectation. Continue to make your videos, they don't go unnoticed.

    I just wanted to express how much I enjoy you series. How much we all enjoy you series. The good, the beautiful and the ugly. I had been ("had been" is a very lose term as I still keep up to date with every bit of info I can find) in the hobby for 10 years. 4 years ago I had a major tank crash which saw me having to sell all my fish, coral and live rock. I had to shut down my tank to save lives. I have been scared to start an new tank ever since. But during the pandemic I found your videos... The honesty and openess you have shown has given me the courage to start again. I am slowly buying everything I need, bit by bit again to start a new tank. I will maybe post the posses on UA-cam. I have never been able to get the beauty of a reef out of my mind and you have put it back in my heart. Thank you for everything you do. Can't wait for you next video. Great series!! I enjoyed it very much. I’ve also started my own reef tank and now I’m facing the cloudy water every morning. Some people on the internet said that it’s probably the bacterial bloom. I wonder, is this thing ever happened in your tank? How do you manage to keep your water always as clear as crystal every time?

    • @AquaSplendor
      @AquaSplendor  10 місяців тому

      Honestly, I just don't how people do not keep their tank clear. I just do maintenance, I try to avoid product when possible because it disturb the ecosystem. It takes time to establish something mature, it takes second to destroy. If you have a bacterial bloom (milky water) the use of UV is great for this purpose.

    Nicolas always teaching me something new, Fluconazole very interesting. I've never ran RODI, just rainwater and high quality sps salt. I kind of rushed into the hobby and used Texas Holey rock in my reef which my LFS guy said could hold silicates giving me algae issues. Though it's not been too bad, I do clean up small amounts of Bryopsis, bubble algae and soft hair algae pretty much routinely for weekly maintenance, sometimes I don't have to. I do it rather thoroughly just to experiment and see the best way to eliminate algae and practically learn how they grow. I clean so well I don't see any in my tank but I know it's there, maybe a stray scrap in a crevasse. It is nice to have the knowledge that I could just go to my fish store and ask if they have any Fluconazole based algal treatment products. Or if someone asked me how could they treat algal blooms in their reef, I could refer them to a Fluconazole based product.

    Great video I always learn lots from your videos and find your reviews great as your always honest with the reviews.
    I’m sure you have looked at most of these but I just thought I would comment with my experience of getting rid of hydroids in my current tank.
    In the end I used fenbendazole but as you say it would harm corals in your tank so probably not a good idea.
    When I was researching how to get rid of them their where a few things I found that could help and they where bumble bee snails, Halloween hermit crabs and a lynx nudibranch. They where mostly people saying they worked though and the only really one that had evidence of working was the lynx nudibranch which are very hard to find.
    If you manage to get a lynx nudibranch I read that in order to increase the chances of it eating the hydroids you have to feed the hydroids phytoplankton. Their is another nudibranch that eats them too but I can’t remember the name.
    The fenbendazole did work in my tank and I havnt seen another hydroid for months now.
    The things I found it to effect where, snails (turbo snails and another snail I can’t remember the name of), possibly some hermit crabs that used to burry themselves in the sand and would t really go on the rock (never found a name for them but they were not the usual hermits), it killed/effected Florida Ricordea mushrooms, clove polyps and a Kenya tree in my tank but nothing else.
    I suspect it wouldn’t effect any lps in your tank but would effect a large amount of the corals so probably isn’t worth using. Plus I still can’t ad snails again yet and it’s been a good few months since treating the tank.

      ps: I haven't done any review for a very long time ;)
      That bumblebee snail always intrigues me for various reasons, but always scared me. It's a carnivorous snail and I'm afraid it could do some damage to something I want to keep, I have a problem of trust with them.

    For hydroids, after scraping off as much as possible isn't one of the first "go to" options smothering them with either superglue or epoxy, since both of those materials are available as reef safe and will effectively starve/suffocate the hydroid?

    • @AquaSplendor
      @AquaSplendor  3 роки тому

      Yes, but my issue is, you only need one of them to be alive, so doing this in any case you are just slowing down the inevitable spread.

    Hey, I had a question. I will be setting up a 600 litre (160 US gallons) tank it will be 60x26x25 inch (LxWxH). So, instead of using bottled bacteria to cycle my tank, if I buy buy two bags of Maxpect bio balls and put them in my cousin’s reef tank’s sump and leave it there for a month of two and then put it in my tank after setting it up, will that cycle my tank? As the bio media would be seeded with bacteria by then. Also the copepods and all that might come in the bio media, will they survive the cycle? The bacteria will eventually find its way up to the display tank right? Also do you think the pests like aptasia, bristle worms and other pests he has will cause a big problem? Because we all get pests in the end anyways and in will be a sterile tank so they shouldn’t survive right? I will feed phytoplankton for the pods. Is there any way I can get all the bacteria and pods but not the pests into my tank? Please let me know. Thank you in advance!

    • @AquaSplendor
      @AquaSplendor  2 роки тому

      It's good the seed your bio media in another reef tank, it will speed up the process a lot. Keep in mind you might have a mini cycle, so don't necessarily put a ton of fish right away. Each tank need a little bit of maturity in general but that bio media will suck up a lof of ammonia. You can put coral right away if you want, they don't need a cycle in the proper sense but stability environnment. Aiptasia will be problematic, they burn and spread fast. Buy pods from a reputable place. Generally speaking they do not have pest.

    • @abyankabir1910
      @abyankabir1910 2 роки тому

      @@AquaSplendor is there anything else I should be concerned about? For coral pests, I probably won’t be adding any corals for the first 4-6 months of the tank so all of the coral pests that might have come from his tank into mine should die right? The only coral I might add is a frag of gsp. Do you think that the copepods will survive the cycle? I will probably add that bio media and then add a few mollies. Also if I do get aptasia what can I do to stop it from spreading any more? Are 2 bags of Maxpect bio balls enough for this sized tank? And um will 3 XR15 Pro G6 be enough for a mixed reef tank of 60x26x24 inch? (LxWxH)

    • @AquaSplendor
      @AquaSplendor  2 роки тому

      Why do wait 4-6 month for coral? It's probably the first thing you want t add. No pest will survive, and perhaps some of them, thrive, they have all the terrain for themself. Don't add copepod if your tank is not cycle, they are likely to die if there's big ammonia spike. Don't add fish you do not intend to keep, but if you want to keep mollies ok but I do believe they are more brackish fish than sea fish. It's not if you do get aiptasia, you will get aiptasia at some point in your journey ;). Kill them at first sight. I don't know for the bio ball size, depends on a lot of factor, just check if you have ammonia, if the fish breath fast, those kind of sign will tell you. Yes for the light.
      Add coral first honestly, they don't have Gill like fish. for the GSP, try to avoid putting on your main rock, otherwise it will invade your aquarium.

    Bonsoir, mon anglais est bien moins bon que le vôtre, et ce même à l'écrit, donc je me permets d'écrire ce commentaire en français.
    J'aime beaucoup vos vidéos, toutes vos vidéos dans n'importe quel format. La curiosité et la passion pour ce qui vit sous l'eau transparaissent dans chacune de vos vidéos; tout cela est présenté, sublimé par un talent de montage et de capture de cette vie sous l'eau caméra à la main. Je suis bien incapable de vous écrire quel est mon format préféré. Cependant, je puis vous garantir que je réserve une partie de chacun de mes dimanches pour ce rendez-vous avec de la Splendeur Aquatique.
    Merci à vous,
    Un récifaliste.

      Depend on what you are asking, if it's tank dimension reference is a peninsula.
      If it's what inside it's a mixed reef tank (All kind of animals that don't necessary belong together)

    Stop adding all that junk, bacteria/gfo. Your tan will balance itself out. I was like you when I was new to reefing, water changes are fine, but you don’t need much else really. I know the temptation is always there to tinker, but believe me, leaving it alone will help. Good luck!

    • @AquaSplendor
      @AquaSplendor  3 роки тому +1

      I have a Tubastrea, acting like a princess, reclaiming constabt food. Gfo is only there because of that, I really need it, otherwise I would only use floss and water change.
      Bacteria is used when my nitrate start to be high. But my coral do love it also.
      I believe my "Tan" is fine 😝
