I am close to 800 hours in the game, and today i learned a new strategy...
I love this game and the freedom in it so much
Thank you !
Love it! I'm just shy of 600 hours and still learning things all the time. That's why it's good to share! Glad you enjoyed!
i tried this strat out on haz 4 with my friend new to the game on engi, had a phenomenal time in the bunkie, we are now firm believers in the bunkie
Great to hear! Rock & Stone!

STONE AND ROCK

@Mckinney140 one of the many side effects of drinking leaf lover's
@@gabrielc7861 nah that’s saying dirt and grass, saying stone and rock is a symptom of 50% drunkenness or above
To hammer home on the last bit, I recall a great moment when I was a Greenbeard Driller in Glacial Strata. Standard run of the mill Morkite Mining Haz 3, until that is when we encountered a Tritilyte Crystal Core Event. I've done enough of this specific one to count on one hand, so I knew the gist but wasn't exactly confident yet on my capabilities, nonetheless, everyone prepped up and started it.
30 seconds into the event and the Bomb Pod was nowhere to be found, it didn't spawn inside the cave with us! We thought it was bugged and thus a lost cause, until I opened my Terrain Scanner and noticed that above us was another cave system and the Bomb Pod had landed there, with roughly 10m-20m of ice between us.
In the heat of the moment and time ticking down, I whipped out the trusty Convenience Cones and drilled my way into the cave above. Once I'd made it, there was roughly under a minute left for me to drill the Pod directly below... Then I realized, "wait?... Can't I just blow the floor open?"
Two rushed C4s and a giant blown crater in the ceiling, letting the Pod fall directly next to the Crystal for easy access to toss bombs onto it. This is the first time a shooter has genuinely made me get creative with the map design like this, and I wouldn't have it any other way. These are the kind of moments that makes DRG one of a kind.
Exactly! That's what it's all about! I'll admit I was a little frustrated at the lack of direction in the beginning, but the way the developers kind of let you be makes it so much more rewarding when you start discovering things yourself. It really lets you play the game in a way that suits your own play style rather than just how you're told to play. Rock and Stone!
@@DrillingInTheNameOf
Exactly, I agree wholeheartedly. DRG's Greenbeard experience can be somewhat lackluster, but man it is great once you get over that first hurdle. If there is any one criticism for the game though, the Matrix Core Progression ought to be elaborated upon a bit more and maybe even introduced earlier for the newbies.
RnS
While that is creative on your part, we shouldn’t praise the game for spawning necessary objectives in inaccessible areas. If there wasn’t a driller on the team, everyone would have lost out on the event.
Killing the lootbugs with a charge is an obligatory step
Otherwise the strategy will not work
I have a minibunk strategy where I drill in to just under overheat, then do a 90 degree short jog to give me a corner to duck behind, then I run back to the entrance and sticky flames the ceiling, both walls, a d floor in a ring. Kills anything short of a praetoria, goo bomber, or oppressor, and the first two can be handled witb impact axes. If you get in trouble you ring of fire the tunnel and dig deeper. If a bulk or oppressor shows up you dig out and leave some c4 to help them think about what they did wrong
Wonderful strategy. Loved the ending. Rock and stone.
When I play Driller i ask if i should make a bunker and usually team says no, so i stopped asking
Then one time the team asked me to make a binkie and i was so excited to make one, it turned out bad, it worked, but it was awkward to use
So here I am learning the proper etiquette for bunkies in the hopes i will not disappoint next time a fellow dwarf asks me to go underground with him/them
Good luck!
“Just try to explain what you’re trying to do”
This. As an engie player it’s great to know what the driller’s plan is when he goes bunker mode, so I can slap some platforms where he needs them. Because sometimes drillers make some crazy sh^t with C4 and it’s like “wtf am I supposed to do here??”
Had a driller just today that made a small cavern with like 20 C4 like you had near the end, but… a lot more chaotic.
Worked out in the end but that was a very confusing salvage mission..
I am the driller in this scenario, unfortunately ;D (I've since started asking the team first how they want to tackle uplinks)
If Hoxxes won't provide, I'll just have to make do.
This reminded me of that one time where we made a hole with the uplink in it, covered the top with platforms and then an opressor showed up and busted through the roof. Out of panic our engineer fired a fat boy nuke into the crater of the uplink. All of us were screaming and shooting trying not to die. We had fun and survived.
Most of the bunkers ive seen were deep and small with a single exit, as the driller wanted the safety without ANY work. Needless to say bulks usually break them. In fact, had a clutch because i heard the bulk coming and dashed out of the bunker. So all i ask is that if you bunker, take the time to do it right.
Always see ppl get actually hostile when talk about bunkers starts. Like you said... not all situations require a bunker, and making one can make a horrible defensive position a lot easier to deal with
My only complaint is the word "bunkie". This seems like a cool strategy, and a nice middle ground.
I now realise my first encounter with the under bunkie was just a bad one
the driller didn't communicate with the team and just dug down the uplink
there was a crack in the wall from a nearby meteor, the hole in the ceiling probably wasn't covered properly
and I now know that he made the entrance tunnel too short
so now we had 3 points where we couldn't see the bugs until they were inside the the bunkie
in summary: bunkies are great, some are just badly constructed
"Do you get bored just shooting while standing still?"
No. The answer will always be no. To me, that is what horde shooters are supposed to be about. Chokepoints and strategy. Forced mobility just gunks up the gears to an otherwise smooth operation.
Couldn't agree more!
I'm a newbie from the ps plus wave so stuff like this is great to have early on! Also that last bit about the creativity is so true.
tbh I always stick with the good ol fashion "dig the objective into the ground, seal it up, then drill the only exit to the escape pod's side so that the bugs can't get past the invisible wall around the pod itself" strategy
Didn’t realize one could utilize that defensive buff outside the drop pod, thanks!
Nice! I like this strategy. My group and I stopped bunking a little while ago as we started completing the Elite deep dives week after week, but some of them dives could probably use this strategy from time to time; instead of just pure pain.
Yeah we started doing this last year sometime and it really got us past the black box on the second leg of an EDD with lethal enemies. We don't really need them anymore but no lie; I just really like making them, ha.
i personally dislike bunkering because i love moving around like a mosquito when im fighting, but MAN are some of those EDD uplink missions brutal. thank you!
Happy to help!
I love how the loot bugs will all gather at spots and its just a massacre.
I know this video is over a year old now. But it’s open my eyes to a new way of strategy and play. Typically I’ve been playing the game how it mostly expects you to. The standard combat method of run around and shoot. However, seeing these bunkie strats make me want to try them. They’re newer to me and something different than the standard methods of play than I’m used to. I can see myself doing Bunkie’s and normal strats from time to time, to spice up combat honestly. Love this game for the same reasons.
I was playing driller for the first time on haz 4 and the second swarm was so huge that i just started building bunkie asap, there was another driller with a sludge pump and engeneer with two turrets, for some time i didnt see the entrance it was blocked by bodies for like a full minute. I remember this mission to this day.
This strat and video are really awesome. Super helpful. I've also learned that I hate the word "bunkie"
Haha thank you!
@@DrillingInTheNameOf Rock and Stone brother! Thanks for the awesome videos!
As a new player i haven't really seen the true usefulness of the driller that every1 keeps talking about but this and the other bunkie video got me thinking.
I once made an extravagant 7 layer bunki complete with a wing for supply drops, a balcony that was able to keep bugs out, and an emergency exit that went under the entrance tunnel
I love this simple video that explains the mechanics and strat and also the conceptual side of things
Thank you!!
I finished Elite Deep Dive for the first time today thanks to your underbunkie. I failed with randoms so many times (low oxygen hazard) but after I suggested our driller to build one we managed to easily pass the level. Rock & Stone!
Just tried this for the first time the other day and it's legendary! It makes the fight so fun and less annoying.
Love this kind of content, ROCK N STONE!!!!!!!!!
To the bone!
Thank you for sharing. Just got my silver 1 promotion on my driller. Also gave the cryo cannon after using the face melter OC for a while on the CRSPR.
Congrats!
Thank you for for sharing your bunkie strategy. It is very efficient and allow me to carry a greenbeards on haz 4/5
I don't even play Driller, infact he's my least favourite class and I still watch these videos
God damn this is a good video. I've never seen an under-bunkie in natural play
Thanks Burrito! Give Driller another chance!!
As a grumpie gunnie I do like to (sometimes) stay out of the bunkie
I usually prefer to just toss a rock carver C4 beneath at a depth they won’t break the surface. Then you be waking the uplink inside
When you saw all the loot bugs, i thought you were going to pet them all individually for comedic purposes
The part where you pull out the terrain scanner and said you want to stay about 5 meters below the surface made me realize that the squares on the scanner are square meters.
6:42 That: HIGHLIGHT THE FUEL CELL, feels like "BUILD THE HELICOPTER" from that lego city ad
Quak, such a good beer. And an unforgettable glass.
I dig the objectives into the ground about 9m then drill another 9m horizontally. Then I go back to the objective and use some Jeep stuff to make a round room, ducking into my horizontal alcove for the detonation. I then have the engie seal the hole I made drilling down, sealing the area from all bugs.
Someone usually gets impatient and opens a hole to the surface, thus creating a fatal funnel...
I do it this way because if the choice is drill a whole room out, or drill two lines and blow some Jeep stuff, I'm gonna save my drill fuel for melee combat.
Jeep stuff? Yeah sealing it is typically what people don't like about bunkering, which I understand. Definitely doesn't leave you with many options if it gets breached.
You can always drill directly above the uplink/fuel station and make the enginneer close the hole in the ceilling with platforms.
Good stuff. Odd beer mug though. Rock and stone.
It's a glass specifically made for Kwak!
Appreciate the kwak glass at the end there
Bunkie Players do everything possible to not just kill enemies when they are 30 meters away, rather get swarmed and panic.
This strat looks so good! The closest iv seen someone do this in my games is shoving the entire box underground and when that didnt work twice we tried to tell the engie and driller to not do that strat but they didnt listen
This is genius, thank you for posting this video.
This will be perfect for some armscore coilgun builds
The double bunkie, is legend o:
Wow. This is pure genius. Thank you. Me and my friends just started playing DRG and I'm their dedicated Driller. This will help us a lot on Deep Dives and Haz 4-5. I can't wait to show them this strategy later. Loving your informative vids. Subscribed
Thank you!! Let me know how it goes!
I'll bunkie here under the engagement algorithm. Rock and Stone!
I thought this video couldn't get any better, but then I heard 'Double Bunkie'
Cool bunkies, I should try making these sometime. Rock and Stone in the heart!
Do it! Let me know how it goes!
@@DrillingInTheNameOf I've made them a few times already, and it most often goes well. However, this one time an oppressor with a group of praetorians screwed everything up, I should've been ready to ditch the bunkie. Well, we bounced back so all's well, ends well. I also played with another player making these bunkies, when I was engineer, and the turret arc is disgustingly good to have when in a bunkie. I want to convert my friend to the bunkie way but he has a scout mindset, a little sad but turret arc works well even without a bunkie.
@@Nen_niN bring the cryo cannon! You can take out those Praetorian and Oppressors easily!
I certainly will, thanks for the tip! I just like fire a bit too much for my own good :P
As a gunner main, i am pro bunkie all the way
made an under bunkie for the first time, works beautifully with sludge pump
Sure does! I'm sure the new driller throwable will make for a great combo as well!
"Unless you are using barbed drills its an easy escape"
Oh this innocent soul..
This design is grumpy gunner friend approved
Rock & Stone!
I use the cry Cannon with the epc lasting damage so that I can keep a dot damage field on the entrance while I freeze enemies who come in
I'm pretty sure the complaints about being forced into to the bunker is because if they don't follow they'll get swarmed and downed with the split team, less so about if the bunker itself works with a split team
I recently started playing DRG and I thought of this strategy and looked it up to see if it’s a thing others do and I was pleasantly surprised. I thought this was “pussy” move and a “camping scum-bag” approach but I now realize it’s a *very* powerful tool to save your whole team as an *emergency* plan if you desperately need a pick-me-up.
It’s very satisfying that the video is exactly 10 minutes
I usually dig my bunker really deep so my team doesn’t get immediately clapped by a bulk detonator. It gives us enough time to escape through my escape tunnel
Gotta try this next time there's a salvage in an EDD!
Let me know how it goes!
Zuck ya. IM HAPPY ON MY ZIPLINE.
ROCK AND STONE
I love this.... Subbed
Thank you!
@@DrillingInTheNameOf "Get in my bunkie", gonna use that from now on^^
@@ThunderbackOG Rock and Stone brother!
Yo the engi cosplay on the scout at the end lmao
I tried this today on a whim. I fucked it up twice and a bulk detonator spawned in it. We ended up with a 40 ft deep crater that was a nightmare to fight in.
I'm starting to wonder whether all self-made "tomb" bunkies are bad, as I have recently played a couple of missions on haz 5 with a group of randoms and we somehow made it out of one, alive, every time.
I'm now fascinated by how the spawning system for bugs works as it seems unpredictable at times.

Rock and Stone, brother!
Just discovered your channel, driller is by far my favorite class.
Have a sub
Also gunners are stinky poopy
Thank you!!
Why does everyone hate gunners have I missed something
@@nebnebit4303 eh, don't take it personally :) it's just an opinion, that is heavily based on facts. Gunner is the weakest thematically, slowest movement, and it's one redeeming feature is the bubbleshield that can clutch some games. Does it really clutch when that's what its designed to do?
But yeah it's just an opinion
Operation get in may bunkeh! Is a go
I've learned that not many individuals respond to the in-game chat...
Yeah, that is too often the case, unfortunately. Luckily I'm usually with one or two friends when I play. Missions with all strangers and little communication isn't as fun.
9:45 Oooh I see you got a nice Pauwel Kwak glass :D
Cheers!
I can see the new microwave gun being very useful for this
i just got the game in ps4 i have over 20 hours at the game with 2 promoted characters and i NEVER say no to my driller's B U N K I E (except that one time he discovered that the explosives arent that great at the lava world)
ROCK AND STONE
There is a way to do a bunker for hack-c. I started making these when Hack- C was on a cliff face instead of being level with objective.
I was thinking about making bunker underneath the uplink, but TBH, recently I see wayy too much Bulks in my games to try this
Bulks can be a problem, but you're close enough to the surface to escape, and you can split the team to have a lookout. Try it sometime!
@@DrillingInTheNameOf I've always done bunkers as well as ''emergency'' bunkers. Tho never had I seen this concept. I'm giving it a shot and I see a lot of positives BUT there are still two downsides I'm noticing. Spiders for some reason target the people on the surface more than whoever is in the bunker. And also if a detonator comes - normally there'd be time to react (as I'd make my bunkers deep and have the black box inside it, the engineer would cover the roof) u'd have time to hear and even see the detonator slowly carve its way to you giving you ample time to escape. I fear that due to the roof being so small here unless you got a gunner or scout out there (which again, would be tanking all the spiders in my games so far from what I'm seeing) who could ping you that there's a detonator - it probs wouldn't even have to carve more than once and the entire team's blown up.
Dev needs a "sign board" feature to tell other what are for
Wow, didn't know this was possible.
Try it out and let me know how it goes!
This is an interesting strategy to say the least, like let's explore the scenario that a Bulk Spawns. is it important to keep the team in groups of two or Should three go out of the bunkie so that way the Attention for the bulk is more split making it easier for one dwarf to stay in the zone? just curious honestly that's it.
Ideally in that situation, our scout (usually MusNothus) will try to aggro the bulk and draw it away until the sequence finishes and we can all take it down.
@@DrillingInTheNameOf ah cool! makes sense. scout does have the most mobility out of the team. I'll give it a shot with one of my friends since he loves driller, this seems like a good strat!
@@boomerangsniper1682 let me know how it goes!
The terrain is a tool to be used to your advantage.
Just did one as qoute on qoute grumpy gunner
How do I mark a permanent waypoint? I'm playing on Steam. Also great video! Engineers and Drillers are the only classes I play on Salvage Missions due to their ability to manipulate terrains 😎
press e while holding the ping tool
Well not shallow as possible because too shallow and the bugs will clip through the paper thin ground
2:20 Toxic...
What’s the difference if the objective falls into the bunkie with you?
Looks cool but I'm still not sure if I'd use it
Fair enough!
idgaf if they're practical/viable/necessary, bunkies are fun as hell to make and to fight in, and I'm making one on almost every mission
9:33 that map generation O_O wtf?!
Haha we were satcheling to the center of the earth. Then had to drill back up. Kind of wish they spawned that way sometimes, though!
Ive never been a big mobility guy unless I have to be. prefer to default to something a bit more strategic an thought out.
You can make a permanent way point?
Yes! Point your laser pointer and hit the use key/button.
How do you place a permanent waypoint?
Hold down the button
Grumpy gunner XD
You killedloot bugs.
Never bunker, line of sight to long distance targets is king.
what r u smoking? all the spitters and web spitter spiders will try crawl into the bunker and you'll just erase them - instead of standing in the open where they harass you for free. Only actual downside to bunkers is if there's an oppressor OR big shellback. Even detonator isn't such a big issue if your driller reacts fast and you all dig out in time.
It's a "Party Bunker" doe
I'm cool with that! Bring some aquarq or jadiz in to set the mood!
8:56 bros for making monkeys ? Cc has it as monkeys instead bunkies
Bunkies 🤣
I like it when he says Bunkie
whats ur cryo build?
I take freeze power over damage, so my build is 2.3.2.3.2 with Tuned Cooler. You can check out the full details in a tutorial I did a while back:
ua-cam.com/video/pMjmr634G_4/v-deo.html
good strategy until your teammates use explosives and open the bunkie to the surface ;(
Thats not a bunker, thats a shallow grave
thats the wierdest glass ive ever seen
ALSO DO NOT ACTIVATE WINDOWS
9:35 WHAT IS THAT DROP
Haha we drilled the fuel cell down to bedrock.
If you don't drill a straight-line path to the drop pod at the end of a mission, are you even a real driller?
