I don’t know about the hate. Carmelo definitely was a major star and skill set is unmatched. However the league was not about to have him as the face of the league. It’s obvious who they wanted to lead that charge; Lebron. Knowing what we know now they got it right. In terms of marketing the league and being the face of the league he would have been too controversial. And what we have demanded of Lebron I’m not sure Carmelo was up to that task. Nothing against him though

Pistons won a title on Melo's rookie season and were very close to winning another one the season after. If Detroit had drafted Melo or Wade or Bosh, or if Darko developed nicely, then the Pistons do not trade for Rasheed during the season and no mini-Pistons dynasty occurs.
