You have such a great sense of humor 🤣 “fungicide”. Hopefully your zinnias will do better after the fungicide 😥
We haven't got 2" of rain yet in all of 2021, such opposite conditions this year. Hope you get it all figured out - ian
:o Now that I think about it..I don't think I've seen rain in ur vids..Hope Serena is doing better!
God bless Grampa 💗
The sad piano has me DEAD. I am sorry you're dealing with this but oh my god you are funny.
🤣🤣 I was cracking up adding that music in 🤣
Also, your grandpa's wonderment looking at your flowers is so sweet!
I found Japanese beetles eating my zinnias. On the bright side, this is my first year growing queen lime with red and its the most beautiful thing I've ever seen!
I found them on mine too this year 😩
mine too! but not on anything else.....so maybe it's good?
This is my first year growing Queeny Lime Orange! Love them too.
I love that you have a meteorologist on call! (and I'm sorry you're having trouble with your zinnias.)
Mine often look like that, soggy hot Illinois weather. Every year black spot and japanese beetles. Doesn't seem to effect the blooms. I just succession plant then pull out plants that get too far gone. The first couple blooms usually look funky, I deadhead them but once the plant starts branching it usually puts out great flowers.
“We have gotten an unprecedented amount of rain” …. Me from California dry as beef jerky desperately hoping for some rain
haha!! I needed that laugh! :)
It’s not hard to figure out where you get your sense of humor 🤣 He is precious! ❤️
Awesome family. Painting AND magic tricks and loving up your cut flowers. I'm so sorry about your zinnias. I feel your pain! Farming and gardening are such hard work. Blood, sweat and tears!
Hey Nicole... sorry about this. My strawberry plants had lead spot a few weeks ago, also due to the amount of rain we’ve received. I removed all of the affected leaves and so far that seems to have done the trick. Good luck my friend!!
P.S: Grandpa is the best! ☺️🙂
Now I know what is happening to my strawberries. Thanks for the info.
Nicole, I am so glad I found your channel! You are so adorable and you just make me smile and lift my spirits with every video! Best of luck fighting the leaf spot, and farming challenges. Thanks for sharing your Grandfather he is so cute too! Blessings on you and your family.
Thank you so much!!
I had a black spot fungus problem on my basil (we have so much moisture in WI too), it took three times of defoliating the spotted leaves and it hasn’t come back! Each time I took leaves off the problem was smaller and smaller until it was just gone :) I feel like you going through and taking the damage leaves off, and spraying, you’ll be OK. Stay hopeful friend!
Thank you! This is my first year planting zinnia seedlings. Just put them in the ground 4 days ago. Now I know what & where to look for early signs of trouble. And thank your sweet grandpa for teaching me a magic trick! So cool!😘
Your family is so sweet. Man, I wish I had a Grand that painted and did magic tricks at the same time. Talented and adorable family. So supportive and inspiring.
I lost my grandfather about a year ago and it brought me such joy to spend that few minutes watching yours. He’s a treasure ❤️❤️
Oh my! grandpa is a gem! I'm so sorry about your zinnias. I'm just getting mine in the ground. We don't get but a drop of rain here in So Cal but I still get fungus on my peas in the winter. I hate it. I'm going for the copper next year.
I love his magic tricks and he always has the most genuinely enthusiastic reactions to your flowers! Awesome
Bravo Dad! Love failed magic tricks...so delightful!
Thank you so much Nicole and T.S .New York SO MUCH 🇺🇸🇺🇸🍎🍎🐱🐱😎😎🤗🎧😃😃🇺🇸🇺🇸😄😄😘🇺🇸🇺🇸😏😇🇺🇸🍏🎸🎺🎁🎸🎻🎵🎹🎷🕭🎧
I have same issue., removed lower leaves and used safers 3-1fungicide/insecticide/miticide.
Worked well. 👍🏻
Also added couple caps of peroxide to my watering can and water the soil under the plants for a couple days in a row then returned to regular waterings.
🇨🇦🙏🏻Keep growing. 🌱💐
Timing is perfect. I’m seeing it on mine too. I have some copper so I will try that.
Very timely. I have this on my zinnia too and know what to do now. Thanks!
Personally I don't know anything about gardening or flowers, but love watching your channel. Especially your Grandpa:)) Good luck with your flowers!!
Oh no All those zinnias. Bless you Here in NH last year I complained about the drought; this year it's the rain. My tomatoes have septoria leaf spot & signs of early blight. ugh Spraying with Bonide Liquid Copper, it's probably too late. awww grandpa is so sweet. Love seeing him in the videos; brings a smile to my day.
the zinnias will be ok, I have the same thing and spray with alternating copper and sulfer every few days
I just love your zest for life; you just take everything with a grain of salt and keep pushing forward... With laughter. You're an awesome person.
God bless you
Jude, from Kentucky
✝️🐴🌿🌻❣️🇺🇸
Good luck! I hope you can contain the issue and save you’re zinnia crop! I’m glad you still have your sense of humor through it all. Thanks for the info and the chuckles! 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
Thanks for posting, my tomatoes have it! Now I know what to do.
Japanese beetles on mine…always something. Great video! Good luck. 🍀
Hi Nicole! We always have those same spots on our Zinnias' lower leaves. I'm from the tropics so we always have heavy rain and I always attribute it to that. I don't really mind so much especially when my Zinnias are already well established, because they always pull through eventually! Although I guess it's best to administer fungicide on your end because you have thousands and you sell them. Hope it works out!
Also you're grandpa is so precious ❤️
Glad you released a video, but sorry to hear about the zinnias. Wishing you all good things. ❤
Bless your heart you try so hard .praying Judy
I'm so glad you shared this because my zinnias are suffering as well. We had drought conditions here in zone 5 Illinois and then nothing but rain so I think I'm going to have to do the same thing with mine. Thanks for sharing
Your grandpa is the best! Helpful, enthusiastic about flowers, and tricks! 😁 Hope the " fungicide" does the trick!
I think the fact that There is always something new to learn and figure out is one of and figure out is 1 of the reasons I like gardening so much! It can be quite stressful at times though especially when you have a lot of money invested...
Just loved your grandpa at the end 😍
What is going on! 😩 We are crispy crunchy Hot & Dry in the west & you are sweatshirt soggy!! Mother Nature needs to do a shimmy shake and mix it all up!! Your Beautiful plants are so healthy otherwise I have no doubt with your love and care they’ll pull through🤗 Great info if we ever see a wet season again!🤓 Your Gramps is Awesome!! Thanks for sharing him with us!!😁 Oh and your Mom Rocks!!🤩
LOVE Jill! It is the best that you have these folks pop in your videos, we never know who we will see next! Oh and....Fungicide.
I feel your pain :( Hope the spraying works! I'm dealing with JBs all over the place ....
Hey Nicole. You always remind me w/your sense of humor to keep my chin up! Thank you!!! Lost 25% of my garden b/c of all the rain we got in CT! (Rotting) Then came the Leaf Spot. Feeling guilty complaining since the west and NW are dealing w/drought and fires. Cheering on your Zinnias!! Best of luck.
Northern Californian gardener here! I love watching your channel, you crack me up. Sorry 😢 for the bacteria.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed 🤞🏻 for you lovely. Aww seeing your Grandpa makes me miss mine 😢 he would sit and tell me stories about when he was in the army and as he got older I’d sit on his knee and pretend I was a hairdresser combing his hair while eating all his sweets 🍬😂🥰 xx
Such a fun video on so many levels! I mean, minus the bacterial and the need for the FUN-JUUUUHHH-cide!
I just noticed this on some of my dahlia leaves and was wondering what it was. I only have 50 dahlias so I am hoping this is not the beginning of the end for them! Thanks for the helpful tips and hopefully this will end your zinnia struggle as well!
My hydrangeas have it too!! Sprayed with copper fungicide. Keeping my fingers crossed 🤞
I just found your channel, I love your farm and your style!
We’ve been having a lot of rain this year. As soon it started I’ve been spraying with the weekly neem and safer soap applications. So far it’s done the trick. Hope you’re able to save yours.
Thank you so much for this video! I have the very same issue, which makes sense since I am not that far from you. Sooooo much rain!!!!
Oh no, Nicole! I am so, sorry. How inspiring that you are using this tough situation to educate and inform. I just hate when things like this happen. I'm thinking of you. Keep your chin up!
I’ve noticed when they get too much water that the leaves get wrinkled then when they dry out the leaves go back to looking healthy. Thank goodness we don’t get a ton of rain in this micro climate we are in. Hawaii has different zones depending on where you are on the island. If i lived up the mountain then the snapdragons and cool flowers would love it. I’m a block away from the coast and its hot and with light mists of rain at night. Good Luck with the Zinnia issue.
My grandfather use to do that same magic trick with me. I had forgotten all about it. Such good memories. Boy I miss him...
I used that Copper fungicide here in FL. We get daily rains and weeks most of the time esp during hurricane seasons.
I have to do mine over the weekend.
Beautiful flowers and love the magic tricks. Bravo !!
Awesome Magic Trick!!!
Oh no! Fingers crossed you can get ahead of it
Good luck with your zins. 🤞 As always, your videos are always so entertaining to watch. Thank you.
Thanks so much!
First and foremost your grandpa is awesome ❤️. I loved his reaction to the bells of Ireland. And then he listened to it 😂❤️. Classic grandpa shenanigans. I hope you can get ahead of whatever is going on with your zinnia. Ive been away from home and my little balcony garden for a week and scared to see what’s waiting for me when I get home. My zinnias were doing awesome before I left. Fingers crossed for both of us.
I’ve never had black spot but here in the subtopics my zinnias always get powdery mildew with our wet, humid weather. Your grandpa was adorable looking at those beautiful flowers 💗🌸
We've had crazy rain here in New Hampshire! My basil has black spots! Plants are not too happy with the crazy weather. Hang in there! Hope it gets better
FUNGICIDE!! You had me in tears with that part of the video. 🤣🤣🤣
This video was timely as I have noticed those spots on my plants. We have had an enormous amount of rain here in Va Beach. Thanks for the product info. 🌺🌾💐☀️🌿🌾
Love Grandpa's magic tricks
I showed zinnias as well here in GA. We had a wet spring, like 10 to 15 inches of rain spring. This is my first year with zinnias and have watched them overcome all the adversities. Spring frost damage to wet weather, to now a super dry summer. They are thriving in spite of the adversities. Just let them do their thing. You'll be glad you did. cheers!
Omg! The penny trick was awesome! God bless
The new growth looks OK. I'd be pretty hopeful actually. Maybe thin the plants as well as spraying so get improved air flow too... Good luck!
Nicole, I literally cannot stop watching your videos. 🤣 I found you on a whim when I was researching gladiolus and now my husband is about two videos away from prying my phone out of my hands to get me away from your channel. You’re so much fun and so knowledgeable and I can’t stop laughing every time you say “fungicide”. Definitely subscribing. Thank you for the laughs!
🤣💐
The rain has been unreal!! I’m going to spray mine this evening
Good luck. Hope the copper works. We are so dry here could use the rain 🌧. The bells of Ireland and snapdragons are so pretty.
Your grandpa is so cute! ☃️❄️💚🙃
We are all hoping and praying that your zinnias will be ok 🤗💗
Saying flower Prayers for you! XO 😘
I planted zinnia seeds in planters for the first time this year and they are doing great!
Hi Sweet Pea. Had the same problem last summer. Treated for rust. Sprayed from the ground up so got underneath the leaves as well. Because we were expecting a lot more rain I thinned them out. Eventually got beautiful big flowers
Had to spray a few times in between rainy days
Thank you So much more TV.
I am glad I stumbled on this. I am in SE MI zone 6. From June 17 - July 18th we received 10.5 inches of water. This week we received 2 more inches. My California Giants are only about 12" tall and starting to bloom. It's not just mine, I intentionally drove by another garden that grows Giants as well. His are all blooming, but half the height they usually are.
Also, I am jealous of your Bells of Ireland. I have always loved mine, but mine has never been as large as yours.
I was wondering what was going on with my zinnias looks like that. Today’s forecast in southeast Michigan is heavy rain & it is flooding again. Get ready it’s coming your way. Thanks for the tips. Good Luck 🍀👍🏽
My Shasta daisy’s and tick seed have the same issue this year. I’m in IN and we have had tons of rain too. July is when my plants thrive, but they are suffering.
My Zinna’s always get black spots and they still over produce! I strip the leaves fresh flowers
Me too!
awww Grandpa Joe!!! The best "While you're recording" hahahah
I have that too all over my zinnia. Has happened in the past and bottom watering helps, but as you’ve said, the rain has been crazy this summer with more coming! 😭
Does new rain require additional spray or is there still some protection?
It is really hard to tell from photos and your video but our experiences with something that looks like this, it was bacterial spot or Xanthomas campestris. It is soil borne and with your rain it is splashing on the lower leaves. Our experience with alternaria, it starts with dark brown or black at the margins of the leaf and moves to lesions on the petioles and stems. It eventually girdles the stems. Your pics didn't show that, but just showed dark spots throughout the center of the leaves. These lesions become surrounded by a yellow halo which can indicate bacterial not fungal. Best field control for bacterial spot is mulching your pathways. Many times when it stops raining the problem disappears by the pathways being mulched. Also bacterial leaf spot usually doesn't kill the plant. This has been our in observations here on our farm. Wishing you the best.
girl I am in Indiana and it has rained all week I feel your pain :(
Have the same thing in Michigan 😢used the cooper stuff and it really really helped . Caught it fast though. Good luck. I sprayed the dirt too btw
Thanks 👍 Glad to hear it helped you!
Really? I keep using copper and it’s not doing anything. 😔
@@melissasullivan1658 yes it even helped my roses . The rain here has been awful🤦♀️I do ever time it doesn’t rain to maintain . Needed neem oil on a few other items.
Hallo Nicole and all your friends Flower Farm
Uggg so sorry hopefully you can get rid of that and save the flowers!!! Your grandpa is awesome!! What a blessing to have him!!💕💕
So sorry about the Zinnias Nicole. I AM looking forward to your harvest and hopefully the treatment works! I did not even get to plant mine because I fell off a wall weeding on May 15th and broke my elbow. :( I have weeds EVERYWHERE! My husband planted 53 bubble gum vistas and they all got eaten by the groundhogs. Same with my dahlias. This year is a bust for me. With regards to the weather, I found gall on my azaleas for the first time this year and cut it all off, bagged it and threw the bags in the trash. I believe rain had a part in that too. Keep your spirits up!! :)
🖤 love your videos
I had exactly the weather conditions and this leaf condition in New Zealand’s last summer. If it’s any consolation it didn’t affect the blooms at all.
Great information I’ve always seen this around the same time as the beetles arrival. I’ve assumed it was from me spraying for the beetles. 🤦♀️ I’ve probably been spreading it all over.
Being any kind of farmer is hard work
I found this same thing on a small portion of our zinnia patch today after being away for a week. We had a lot of rain while we were gone too. After some research, and watching your video, I am going to pull all of the infected leaves and drench everything in the copper fungicide. :) Fingers crossed this works, for both of us!
Zinnia blight is quite common in the humid south. Could be that.
I get zinnia and sunflower blight in the dry California summer too. They’re both just total blight babies. 😒
Mine in MS last year was great. This year they are awful. Not sure I will plant again.
I’ve had a terrible time with alternaria leaf spot on my zinnias this year. It hasn’t even been that rainy where I live but for some reason the fungus was bad very early on in the season and I think it slowed their growth considerably. Considering growing my zinnias in a cold frame/hoop house next year so they never get any overhead watering from nature. Alternaria suuuuccckkks! Good luck 🤞
I have it too Nicole - am trying peroxide in water - heard that works great! We'll see! BUT, my flowers are blooming beautifully anyway and big blooms and prolific! So, don't pull them out!!!
😱😔 oh no! Yes that definitely looks to be a bacterial issue rather than just lower leaves turning yellow from getting too wet. It’s always something I swear! This is my first time growing cut flowers and one of my dahlia plant’s core stem just rotted from all the rain and flopped over half of my plant. I cut it out and hopefully the side shoots will continue. I dug to look at the tubers and they don’t seem mushy so I’m praying 👏🏼
Same issue with my zinnias in mid-Mich. I’ve been stripping lower leaves but will try the copper if it’s persistent. Died at “fungicide “- so funny and your grandpa is adorable 🥰
I agree with sunflower Steve copper is good. I grew my zinnias is self watering pots this year. They were all up and looking good then 5" of rain flooded the pots I didn't notice and they drown and rotted. Starting a new batch in flats maybe today if I beat the next round of flooding rain late this afternoon.... Good luck with your zinnias!
In TN it is hot and humid all summer. I have been using Safer Brand 3-in-1 organic spray this year and my garden has never looked better! Great stuff for bugs and fungus problems.
Yass girl. Fungicide.
I just stumbled across your channel today & am loving the content!!! I’m from Boonville….but Indiana! 💜
I have the same issue with my zinnias too. But it hasn’t slowed down the flower production 🤷🏼♀️
My vegetable garden is not fairing well with all this rain! hang in there
