19:00 *Not-a-spoiler* This is a piece of information coming from a Data Book and confirmed by Oda that *Vivi is considered an official Straw Hat* (however absentee and unknown to the public). Unlike some characters that were and will be tagging along during an arc or so, she is legit.
Also, yes Bon-chan is a fan-favorite.
Regarding the chopper scene at the beginning: Chopper doesn't know how to handle compliments because he's been hated his entire life so he expresses his feeling really ridiculous

"But if we meet again someday, will you call me your friend?" i cried so hard when i watched that scene the first time and still tear up watching it now. Alabasta is truly a special arc, personally my number 1 arc. Legendary.

I've been watching One Piece for years and I've seen a lot of reactors from the series, and you're the first to notice that they added robin to the end-of-segment screen the first time

About Django, one of the things the anime doesn't adapt are the cover stories. Sometimes, Oda will have a running, one panel narrative concerning a character we've met previously and their side story will progress over each cover page of the One Piece issue. Django got his own where he met Fullybody and became friends, it's pretty fun. There are a couple other really great, really important ones you might want to look into when the time comes.

Most reactors knew she was going to be part of the crew since they saw her back at the start of the arc because they already saw her face on posters and whatever, But still I don’t think anyone would have caught her being added to the commercial break, I JUST NOTICED BECAUSE OF YOU LOL
Same, nowadays if you search up one piece to watch it's almost impossible to avoid seeing the posters with all the straw hats. I litteraly got spoiled of all the members because of the wano poster on crunchyroll were robin was at the front so I already knew she would join.

Even though Strawhats only did call themselves pirates, but being a pirate means you declared to the world you don't follow any country or govt. rules and laws which in itself a crime.
I just love how oda writes this, each chareters has a gaol to achive, luffy wants to be the pirat king, zoro wants to be the greetest swordsman and vivi wanted to save her country and when she reached her goal her adventure was over, it's just greet writing

One piece does so many things that no other anime hold a candle to, but their post climax of an arc celebrations followed by news spreading around the world to their loved ones and those they've helped in the past is one of the strongest points

Yes, Pell survived, and to this day, I don't think the fans have ever gotten a straightforward explanation as to how he managed to survive a point blank huge explosion like that. The best explanation I can come up with is 1) Zoan Devil Fruit users are STUPID tough, and 2) as a falcon, Pell was able to ride the shockwave with his wings, lowering its impact from 'fatal' to 'critical.'
No, Vivi doesn't join. The whole reason she left her country was to help save it; now that it's getting back on its feet, there's no way she could leave it for good. You could tell she was very tempted through, and she'll always have a place open on the Straw Hats.
But we still have a new crew mate: Nico Robin, my personal favorite of the crew. I won't go into spoilers, but I can't wait for you to learn more about her.

he also ended up at a random desert hospital and spent at least 5 days recovering there. (Luffy slept for 3)
I think I remember that Oda saved Pell because the Alabasta arc in the manga took place between 2000 and 2002 and Oda didn't want to kill Pell in an explosion, related to 9/11

Vivi's dream was to protect and save her people and her kingdom. after having that finished, there was no need to be a pirate. it hurts, but it's honestly nice she's gonna be an ally in the future or just a close friend to see again.
That song you listened that you said is new in the last episode, it was the first ending song of One Piece. It's so emotional and nostalgic. I always listen to that song. :')
To be fair with the Pell part, in the manga, it doesnt show him directly in blast radius, just a panel which is shot from the ground up where everyone was looking at the blast

yeah the reason why they doing it is because they want people to watch the episode till the end. if they KNOW what will happen they wanna know how it will happen. its kinda stupid. but its the typical "teaser mentality". especially in one piece, the stuff thats in the title usually happens at the end of the episode. so you keep watching till the end.

Pell survived an explosion, miss merry christmas survived an explosion and she was an hold hag, pell's a fit warrior so that checks out

I've never seen anyone notice Robin's addition in the commercial break before, and the only person I remember predict Robin would join was Spherical Films.

There are so many amazing moments in OP that it frankly always feels like it's just getting started. The power scaling, imo, is amazing. So the tension is good and the reward for the long a wait is often if not always satisfying. I love Op.

0:37 It's not entirely the marines, mainly its the world government. The marines definitely have independent issues but a lot of the stuff they do is ordered by the world government.
Yeah they're two separate organizations, the marines are like an extension of the government like the military
24:00 Iteresting Fact. *Originally Pell was going to die for real* however around the time this part of the manga was published, 9-11th happened and Oda decided to change that so not to come off as unintentionally disrespectful. This is something that we found out only few years ago in the interview.
regarding Pell: I'm not 100% sure if this is factual but this is what my friend told me. Pell was supposed to die but the chapter with Pell's death came out right before 9/11 and that's they couldn't exactly let Pell be dead.

I love that Chopper can't take a complement even though you can tell he loves it. He definitely inherited that behavior from his parents.
I'd also suggest reading the cover stories for "miss golden week's great escape" where it show what happened to the Baroque Work agents and crocodile after being defeated by the strawhats. Alludes to one of the best arcs in the future
To be a strawhat there are few checks (fans came up or patterns discovered)
1 - you need to have a strong dream that will be accomplished traveling with straw hats
2- A definitive position/role on the ship (e.g. Doctor, Cook, Navigator etc...)
3- Tragic backstory
Vivi's dream was just to save her country Alabasta and she got that dream accomplished, she won't have a defined role on the ship either but has a defined role in her own kingdom.
So I think She was out of Strawhats after her dream was accomplished
The fact that you caught Robin standing in the line with the straw hats at the midpoint of that episode is a darn good eye.
Bon clay is genuinely one of my favorite characters, you'll see him again. Not that soon tho

So I forgot the cover story of Django and Fullbody, basically the met, became friends over hating the strawhats, met Capitan Hina, fell for hear, became her shoe lickers... to her dismay
next one is what happened to barroque works members, starting with Miss Wensday (the painter) and the bomb guy and Kilo girl in the prehistoric island, they go to save the other agents after some shenanigas, Mr 3 gets dragged by Bon Clay into helping, both get captured, as they were freeing them all from the prision they were in before taking them to their final destination Crocodile and Mr 1 decide to not escape and remain in the prision, as the other members are making their escape Miss Wensday uses a technique of hers called Rainbow color, dream color which basically makes a dress made of color of what you dream of being, some are silly, like bat guy wanting to be a pizza delivery man, but Crocodile and Mr 1 are pure gold, you have to check that one

Also, pretty sure a very small amount of the reactors that watch one piece noticed robin in the line-up... Unless they were told about it...
And so the Alabasta arc edges towards its end
First, some relaxation, the kingdom are more than happy to allow the people who saved the country rest up in gratitude. It wasn't a meat coma but he did rest for a long time, 15 meals was a lot of meals to miss.
Chopper's 'popping off' is recurring, he doesn't know how to take compliments, he acts all happy but tells them to stop being so nice, usually calling them a bastard too
We also bear witness to the most deadly weapon in the One Piece universe: The Happiness Punch
In the midst of Crocodile's defeat, Luffy's bounty has increased, and Zoro has gotten a bounty too for his antics at Whiskey Peak and beating Mr. 1. The higher notoriety means that more forces will be seeking their heads, which means they cannot stay in Alabasta.
Hina's marine squad has familiar faces, Jango and Fullbody. Jango joined the marines in the cover story 'Jango's Dance Paradise' where he struck a friendship with Fullbody while on the run. They both decided to join Hina's squad after basically simping after her, unfortunately this never made it to the anime but it was a short for one of the movies.
With the looming threat of the marines, the crew get a surprise call from Bon Clay who is 'taking care' of their ship. So the crew have to leave ahead of schedule, leaving Vivi with a choice to make: her country or her friends. She loves her country and it's in a bad state, but the threat is over and she has accustomed herself to life with the Straw Hats, but that will mean opening herself to being on the run from the law too. She has 12 hours to think about it, they will wait, but she will only get one chance.
Captain Hina is not one for messing around, they call her the 'Black Cage' after all (mainly due to her Ori Ori no Mi - Bind Bind/Cage-Cage Fruit - which can create iron bars), but Bon Clay admires one thing above almost all else: Friendship. Whether he fails as a man or a woman, he will sacrifice all for friendship, and Bon did just that to let the Straw Hats meet with Vivi.
Unfortunately, Vivi cannot join the crew...not right now at least. The country needs someone they can believe in, someone who can help rebuild. But the crew cannot publicly reveal their association with her around all these marines, instead they throw up the X, the symbol that they are who they are meant to be: friends.
Also surprise! Pell is alive! He had a very good doctor it seems. But for real, Oda retconned his death since the chapter the bomb went off was very close to 9/11. But through his survival we got the meme fan term 'Will of P'
One door closes though and another opens, Vivi's slot gets filled by another stowaway on the ship: Nico Robin. She did indeed survive her hooking, and she supplied the antidote for Crocodile's poison, but as she was ready to accept her death and the end of her dream to find the 'true history' written on these Poneglyphs (and yes, she did lie to Crocodile, she knows full well what Pluton is) did Luffy pull her and Cobra out of danger, so by the ancient laws of life debts: Luffy is technically responsible for her now, which grants her a spot on the ship.
Anyone who had to watch the anime weekly with the opening would've given it away as well, the openings spoil a lot regardless of their placement. In the current arc, we went through a whole span of an opening being too spoilery to watch completely blind, you needed to be a few episodes into the next opening before you could watch the one before without being spoiled.
Of all reactors I have seen, nobody realized Robin in the panel. You are the first one.

The reason Pell is alive is because when Oda was writing the end of the arc it was durning the time of 9/11. Pell was going to die but Oda change his mind.

Your reactions were hilarious for these episodes. The rollercoaster of emotions when you were unsure whether Vivi was joining or not. Bon Clay's sacrifice, Pell being alive somehow (wtf Oda), and Robin joining. Such a good twist. Early One Piece is so good man. It is still great nowadays, but these earlier episodes just hit different.

Vivi can be considered "a former" member of the Straw Hats.
Ok regarding the whole Pell being alive, I think there is another reason. So apparently, when the chapter of Pell sacrificing himself came out was around the same time of the 9/11. So Oda thought it wouldn’t feel right for Pell to die from an explosion during that time. Now this wasn’t confirmed but I saw it was mentioned by King of Lightning who is a respected OP reviewer. If it’s true, I could respect that.
Another thing is that Oda said that characters would damper the end of the arc. Pell doesn’t have to die to progress it’s the story. Take it however you like.
Another probable reason would be that people having rare Zoan type devil fruits have much higher durability.... Which was stated by oda and also being really obvious in current arc
Seeing Vivis wanted poster for the last as she rides off into the sunset hurts man. Like Ik she's alive, but it's like saying Bye to a friend after hanging out for so long
this arc is why we can never be sure in who is joining next or anyone at all. oda the genius set this seed of uncertainty up so hard

And so we depart from Alabasta. With a heavy heart and tears in our eyes from leaving a dear friend behind.
If it counts for anything, Vivi is classified as a "former Straw Hat" by the author and official sources. She's part of the crew, even if she's not with us anymore. And the crew didn't get much smaller. We get a new member pretty suddenly in Nico Robin. A very different addition to the crew, and she has not won everyone over yet. Namely, Zoro is the one that's still suspicious of her. Though Luffy didn't seem to have any problems with her coming aboard.
And now we sail on towards the next saga. More adventure awaits, and the only way from here is up.
I almost 100% certain that you are the only person who first relized there was a new straw hat from the eye catch ( the eye catch is the commercial break thingy ) most people get spoiled from the opening, it shows Robin like 6 episodes before the end of alabasta. Btw the next ark jay a is my absolute favourite ark and I'm pretty sure you have already seen it all it's pretty short
So hyped for Ruff to watch the Skypiea arc, my second favorite arc(1st is Whole Cake Island).

I somewhat agree with the assessment that Smoker is one of the few good marines we see. Personally, Smoker & Tashigi, and five other marines that I remember, I won't spoil who, seem to have proper morality behind their upholding of the law. Odds are quite a lot of unnamed fodder have their hearts in the right place, but it seems to be far less common the higher you go up the ranks. You'd likely find more Axe Hand Morgans than White Chase Smokers in the One Piece world.
Random but I absolutely LOVE how Luffy says "I'm hungry!" @31:23 When I first heard it I replayed it so many times 😂
iirc nobody even noticed the commercial scene, most of them were confused when they saw robin on the ship and even got more confused when robin said "lemme join ur crew", and there are those who even got spoiled from the openings and episode title 😅
ps : wow ruff is one of the few reactors that actually trust nico robin as soon as she joined the crew lol

I have watched about 13 reactions on one piece (when i catch up to them i start another and keep up with their releases) you are the first to notice nico robin in the line up. I never noticed until you pointed it out.
As a One Piece reaction connoisseur I can tell you that you are the only person I've seen that called Robin joining based solely on the fact that there was an extra person in the title card. I'm very impressed.
Now that you've seen Nico Robin joining the strawhats, you could watch the opening of the filler. Its one of my favorite song of One Piece and there's no spoiler there. I hope you like it RuffSenpai
Honestly the end of alabasta saga makes me cry because of the nostalgic soundtrack and the memories the straw hats made, it makes me cry but think their are more awesome adventures on the way .

You're right that they haven't really done anything wrong, but their notoriety comes from how strong they are, bounties are more of a threat level than anything.
And so the story of the Desert Princess and the Pirates draws to its ultimate closure. Now, onward to that distant Horizon! Adventure awaits!
