Could anyone have imagined when Usopp first joined that he would end up seriously fighting Luffy? Not because of some mind control BS or other trope, but because of genuine, believable, gut-wrenching differences in opinion when a non-punchable, logistic problem arises. That's great writing.

It's even more complicated. He doesn't have a different opinion ussop knows the merry is done. He's in denile in ways for sure. But the fights not about the merry. It'd 100% about abandoning a crew member for being useless. He feels he's next and if they can drop merry so quickly they can drop him. They didn't even seem to try and find a way to fix merry just immediately OK NEW SHIP

i think its kind of nice that out of the "monster trio", sanji seems to be the most sensitive? like, in a good way. he's the one from trying to stop luffy from saying something he can't take back (even though usopp got the message anyway sadly), he's the one running after usopp with nami and chopper...not just this arc tho, if you pay a bit of attention, youll see that sanji is always the one out of him, luffy and zoro that just cares a lot. about everything. even though he likes to pretend he only cares about nami and robin lmao.
i love the crews dynamic and how you can tell who has which types of relationship with each other. sanji and zoro are like hyper competetive siblings, i think usopp and sanji are really really good friends, chopper sees zoro as a big brother and zoro sees him as a little brother, luffy is in equal measure an absolute menace but also the one everyone looks to, to handle all kinds of situations...ive been reading about/watching the strawhat crew for half my life at this point, and god do i love all of these characters to bits.

Zoro owe something to luffy, even if all the strawhat got attacked zoro will always protect luffy first zoro only save robin and other crewmate because it's the captain order. Zoro own something to luffy and luffy alone make his charachter really shine and diffrient.

Sensitive guy would not blame Zoro for not beating up guys (which he did) that came to the ship but didn't do anything serious at that time when the is falling apart. Even Chopper is more useful than Sanji. If Sanji didn't stop Luffy, he might have said something hurtful, but he didn't stop Usopp when he was talking sh*t to Luffy.
I always come back to watch Sanji kicking Luffy.
He just shut Luffy's mouth up so that he didnt say something horrible. I respect Sanji a lot in this scene.

200 out of 900 I would say it’s pretty damn early
Idk if you picked up on this and just didn't comment on it, but one of my favourite smaller details from this arc is Nami commenting "Stealing from pirates?! you're the lowest" when her introduction was her being a thief who stole from pirates, because "pirates are scum." It really encapsulates her growth as a character throughout the series.
This is one of those moments that really divided some fans on their opinions of Usopp. Some solidified their dislike and some solidified their like of his character with this one part.
True story, my brother I have differences in opinion. My brother hates him and I like him.
@@Gadeberg90 yeah for me, i disliked usopp after this fight, then when he joined as sogeking, i liked him again because even though he was not part of the crew he was still there fighting alongside them.

That's what I love about One Piece. The Straw Hats can be goofy and childish as f*ck, but touch one of them and you're in for a world of pain!

Them being goofy and childish makes thrm more lovable I think and them being serious also makes them lovable to. It's not too serious and light hearted
Facts
When luffy said get off the ship to ussop in the heat of argument, that was one of the things luffy had it in his mind after learning about merry's condition, cause since he is the captain of the ship he is responsible for the lives of his crew and if the ship cannot take them to the next island their lives would be in danger and after taking all of that into account luffy had 2 options to save their lives
1. Take a new ship
2. Or get them off the crew so that their life wouldn't be in danger.
Rough decision for the man
You wanted Usopp's moment? Well, here it is. This and what happens on the next video is the biggest moment for Usopp's character, and without a doubt one of the best moments in the series.
I cry like hell for the ship like the most throughout the whole series so far, I'm in ep969 but cried the most here
One of the great things in this arc in the writing is Usoop going through the stages of grief.

if theres one thing that one piece does better than ANYONE else (and i would argue there are several things), its the "walk". the "oh my god theyre gonna fuck them up im so fucking hyped holy shit" kinda walk, like in arlong park, and here, and in later iterations as well. nothing makes me go "AAAAAHHH KHJFHJDS FUCK YEEAAH FUCKEM UUUP!!!" like these kinda moments :D
So much happens in these episodes. So much happens in this whole arc, but these episodes are some of the most important, IMO.
We see just how important the relationships among crew are, hiw much they actually care about each other, even when they're angry.
The whole series is an example of excellent writing, but this arc in particular is phenomenal.
I remember seeing this for the first time, and it killed me inside. Usopp is my fave, and seeing him leave was so heart breaking. I cried so hard.

Luffy's hardest fight is against Usopp. That's kinda silly to think about but its true.
Silly it may seem, but it's accurate. He wasn't fighting an enemy, here, he was fighting his best friend.

All Chopper does is freak out and worry over his friends, you have to make that cinnamon roll REAL pissed off for him to prioritize beating your ass over tending to his injured friend.
VERY FEW fictions can top One Piece for pure world building. And I mean ALL fiction, not just anime.
I did a check: Luffy and Crew first get Merry in Ep 17 after they save the village from Kuro
So, they have had Merry for over 200 episodes
Cruel or not, Usopp deserved to hear what Luffy had to say there. He acted like he's the only one who gave importance to Merry.
It's not that Usopp was the only one who gave Merry importance, I think, it's about her Klabautermann. Usopp was the only one who saw it, and as he shows later when he talks to Franky, that weighted heavily on his mind.
It's not that the others cared less about Merry, but while they saw her as their precious ship, but an object nonetheless, Usopp saw her as a complete comrade, not just a mere object, but an actual sentient being
Usopp saw a living thing where thte others saw a boat and that made a big difference
This fight is awful because they weren't even standing on the same ground to beginf with and that wasn't anyone's fault; the crew didn't know she was beyond a ship, therefore couldn't understand the extent of Usopp's rage
It sucks but yeah. Usopp acted as if they cared less, because *they did*, and it wasn't their fault. But Usopp couldn't explain why, and Luffy couldn't have guessed either
Usopp definitely had the most connection to Merry. But above all that, he felt insecure about himself which is understandable
