I'm currently training for the physical exam. I'm a woman in my mid thirties. There's zero plans to have any more kids. My husband is in total support of me moving into this career. I'd love to hear some pros and cons on entering this career older in life and as a woman. For some reference, I'd be applying to a rural sheriff department. Any feed would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Same! I am in my mid 30s with 3 small kids and am nervous about the whole process and what scheduling will look like because I do not want to miss out on my kids lives.
I'm training for the physical exam right now, making a career change and really hoping to get into law enforcement and I hope to start a family in the next 5 years (ill be getting married 2026) and I am so grateful for your content especially information like this!
Not at all do I want to bypass being a parent but where I’m at right now in my parenthood journey is realizing that if all that I am making is minimum wage and raising my kids in that, then how much better could I make their life be if I was pursuing a career in law enforcement and actually affording the bills, a nicer place to live, maybe even vacations, splurge on their birthdays etc. without stressing that I can’t even afford their birthday when certain important bills haven’t been paid. That for me is the cross roads, I’m like what am I even doing here. I can’t even give them the life I want them to have with this lifestyle and I have a BA degree in criminal justice like why don’t I use it. And so I’m here watching your video trying to figure out if I can balance being in my kids life and being in law enforcement. Some departments here do a 12 hour shift work week and I’m like 😲😱 how could I make that work while being a mom?
We do not normally do 12 hour shifts, but will for details and special events. It is very difficult to balance everything and do all you want for your children. It can take some time to get to the shift, off days, etc you may want and for that reason I would encourage you to really closely examine the department you are trying to go to. Any time a mom is working outside of the home, I think it is hard but especially with support you can make law enforcement work and still be the mom you want to be 💙
Hi Melissa - I was looking for your contact and couldn't find it. I'm thinking of creating some content but am concerned about being publicly "out there". Is there any way we could connect so I could get your insight about what your experience has been after creating content? Thanks!
I have met many officers who dot want kids cause of what they do. But there are several reasons why people do or do not want kids. I know that for me I can not have kids myself but I would consider adopting.
I been a cop since 2007 and I left the force in 2019. My wife is 40 and I'm 41.
