I really don't think the gaming performance on battery matters on a gaming laptop. The battery life is so short while trying to game that it is not worth it to try to game unless you are connected to the wall. The way to think about high end gaming laptops is that they are two computers in one. They are a high end laptop on the one hand and on the other a legitimate replacement for a desktop. It just can't be both at the same time.
Pretty much how I use my 2022 G14. Docked performance is like any other gaming laptop, and battery performance is still more than enough for CAD work on the go. I can even get some lighter games going on battery because the iGPU is actually a little beast.
Agreed. With a laptop, you want at least 5 hours of battery life in browsing and video playback and at least an hour while gaming. And if the GPU pulls over 200W, you can do with a bit less on battery. But a bit more performance on battery than it gives now would probably be better. If it can still do that one hour of gaming that is.

@@cfilorvyls457 if you’re dead set on that, which I sort of am, than your other option is Razer. Not an insane gamer aesthetic, but you actually get a real gpu, instead of Dell pretending that the 3060 is top of the line. The two major things to consider though, is the price can get pretty high (although I think xx60 to xx60, their close in price, it’s just that Razer starts at 60, whereas Dell ends at 60) and the thing is a lot thicker and a little heavier than a comparable XPS.
This thing looks sweet, but after using a Gigabyte Aero for the past few years which has a similar keyboard layout, I would never do it again. I wish there was a version without the numpad layout and had the longer profile shift key. This style of keyboard is just not as comfortable to use as a layout that isn't squished to one side or the other.
Gaming Labtops we're so compromised for a long time. But every review i see one i miss my old one that i actually took to friends places often. Keep in mind this laptop costs around the same as a similar performing desktop with a 3090 from late 2020. But for laptops I think it's most reasonable to never go above a 70 series GPU. Any higher and you run into diminishing returns from wattage and heat restrictions.
In previous generation I 100% agree with you but for 40xx generation price difference between 4070 and 4080 not too high but there is about 40-50% gain in fps. Also imo its somewhat unreasonable to go for 4090 bc it it gives 10-20% gain and usually costs a lot more
was gonna say I dont normally comment but yeah without 330 watt power brick the battery cant supply same power to GPU so of course its a big change, battery is just basically a ups with a gpu like that so you can get plugged in, just seemed bad to say it would get fixed later
I hate how when razer sells you peripherals they aren't telling you theres 125hz at the keys and mousepad. So, you can't scale the gaming keyboard down. you just have to use both. While the mouse can change its polling rate to accommodate to the refresh rate of the 125hz keyboard. Confused yet? The monitors now come with variable refresh rates(gsync freesync) and adjustable refresh rates at the monitor.
Im pretty sure if you unplug the laptop it goes in a like silent mode which doesnt allow to clock the gpu high but if the software would work you could probably change that
A couple years ago now I bought an MSI stealth 17.3" laptop with all of the same specs as the laptop linked in the description with the exception of the CPU and Graphics card. Mine has an I7 - 10th gen processor and an RTX 2060. I purchased it at a time when both of which were relatively new on the market for a total of $2100. Its crazy to me that its been between 3-4 years and a laptop with the newest CPU and Graphics card is now retailing for $3500 and we are willing to accept that. I do understand that 13th gen processors and the RTX 4000 series cards are significantly better, but in my personal opinion it's not $1400 price hike better. Good video nonetheless.
Are you sure when you unplugged it the battery profile didn't change to battery save mode? Hence why the performance tanked. Cause that was my impression. Cause that is the behavior I expect to see when unplugging a cord from the laptop. It also doesn't help that you did not show the profile when you did unplug it. So potentially there is more performance on battery than what you demonstrated. Remember laptops have to energy profiles. One for on cord and one on battery. So having it on balance mode on cord doesn't mean it will stay in balance mode on battery.

Always such a big difference in attitude towards a laptop depending on whather the video is sponsored or not.
Looks like they aren't any lighter but they became insanely dense and sleak looking, so maybe also easier to transport. The older ones we're always bulky af.
On 06:00 ☠️☠️ he's speaking big facts! 💯 I thumbs up 👍 and followed. LMAO 🤣 It's just funny. Awesome stuff on the review.
hey can you guys show us type c charging while gaming and how much performace we can get while plugging via type c
Wish Apple did that with their Keyboards, as there is always imprints on the screen panel which just means your display will be scuffed in no time. I had to put a screen protector on my M1 16 Pro
Did NVidia just git a fancy marketing name to a mux switch?
Sure sounds like it.
I’m going to continue to complain about Alex using Valheim for benchmarking until he stops.
Maybe the battery can be improved so the fps doesn't slow down so much after you pull the power cord.
Put on max performance mode in power settings problem solved.
Had one of these in an older generation. Didn’t last me 2 years and cost like $4.5k.
CPU?GPU?
I'd like to see you review a laptop for word processor and office work on a budget!
Get AMD CPU laptop 3X more battery than intel.
4nm AMD CPU.
Honestly, $3500 seems like a very fair price. In UK I've seen a bunch of weaker 4000 series laptops advertised at $6000+
That's the problem bro. Especially since this "4090" is nothing at all like the desktop 4090
Is there a vacuum cleaner being used in the background? I would have liked to see termals no temperature read outs at all
Gigabyte needs this to be good, the AMOLED 16 inch series was not good last year
The fan is as loud as a waterfall. They just have to tune it down a little bit and we will have healing frequencies baby 😂
I enjoy these reviews but it would have been better without the background music. It sounded as if the fans were blasting away when you hit 240 fps but the background music made it difficult to tell what we were hearing.
1:15 gave me flashback to The Design is very human
interested in 16 inch 16:10 4090 175w laptops and how hot they get...
2k as good as you can get? I thought 4k was better seeing that the 4090 was made for it.
That fan noise is unacceptable honestly.
The price of these laptops are heartbreaking. Kudos to those that can afford to own them without breaking the bank or having to sell their kidneys. Might just be me, I'd rather play older titles or give up gaming and put my money to better use.
I feel similar things about your iPhone.
@@killerra i don't have an iPhone though, but yeah that too is not wallet-friendly.
For the last two generations rtx2000 ,rtx3000 flagship laptop started on 2000$ now it's 4000$ . Nvidia doubled the money.
@@vmafarah9473 in my counters those price is 6600 dollars
Right when he unplugged the laptop I got a UA-cam ad for the very same laptop. The commercial featured these 360 swivel slow motion shots of people gaming over hip hop music. Trying to make them look cool for just sitting on their ass
As soon as I could skip the ad I come back to the review and the music paired with the drop in FPS made for a hilarious If not serendipitous moment
Came for crabs techno dancing
I must say I was very entertained by that strand of Alex's hair that kept bobbing around.
i can disable the 30fps lock on my acer predator but a full hd demanding game last bout 30 40 mins @ 60hz
In conclusion: Not worth it.
No, it is not 24 cores at 5.5GHz. That is the max turbo on one of those 8P cores. Those 16E cores max out around 4.4GHz.
1:22 the design is very human
Certified chonker of a laptop, good heavens. o:
I hope we get a 16 inch with a 4080 in it as this size is a bit to large for easy carry
Asus has a couple
Keep in mind this laptop costs around the same as a similar performing desktop with a 3090 from late 2020. But for laptops I think it's most reasonable to never go above a 70 series GPU. Any higher and you run into diminishing returns from wattage and heat restrictions.
In previous generation I 100% agree with you but for 40xx generation price difference between 4070 and 4080 not too high but there is about 40-50% gain in fps. Also imo its somewhat unreasonable to go for 4090 bc it it gives 10-20% gain and usually costs a lot more
This laptop is something I definitely don't need nor want for portable gaming but I still want one really badly because come on, it's badass!
"I dont need it and i dont want it but i want it!"

30 Fps in Doom because of Battery Boost in Nvidia GeForce Experience... C'mon, it's rookie mistake Alex
Love you, don't be offended, you're awesome
2:07 "6.5 pounds. Yeah, that is an exceptionally heavy laptop."
*laughs in 9 pound Predator 17*
was gonna say I dont normally comment but yeah without 330 watt power brick the battery cant supply same power to GPU so of course its a big change, battery is just basically a ups with a gpu like that so you can get plugged in, just seemed bad to say it would get fixed later
11:42 my face too. Alex called it, lol
Would be quite gangster to have to slide over to a secondary monitor/keyboard/mouse to do gaming. and slide back for social media. lol.
Don't hate the design, but unfortunately you are stuck with their Gigashit software to control the lighting. It's insane how bad it is.
worse than RAZER sh|t?
@@a.g8517 I would argue Gigabytes software is the worst in the industry. RGB Fusion I try to use for my 4090 literally gives me blue screens.
We love the “bring her down there” all love alex
“Is this a 99Wh battery?” “Yes,” screams the 20pt font
?How do they know what size battery you have in your laptop? You could have upgraded from the stock battery.
The monitors now come with variable refresh rates(gsync freesync) and adjustable refresh rates at the monitor.
still a mess? its a laptop the power draw isnt coming from inside the case. lol.
and here i was expecting price to hit $4500
Im pretty sure if you unplug the laptop it goes in a like silent mode which doesnt allow to clock the gpu high but if the software would work you could probably change that
Was that webcam 1080p @60fps? For me personally, I couldn't care less if it was 480p, as long as it can do 60fps.
2060 for 2100 usd was a rip off wtf?
I dont like too big track pads since if you game and youre trackpad messes you up its a sad time
So Nvidia now has a proprietary, super expensive, mux switch? Great, just what we expected lol.
When you unplugged the power a commercial popped up, so you should leave the power plugged in
Are you sure when you unplugged it the battery profile didn't change to battery save mode? Hence why the performance tanked. Cause that was my impression. Cause that is the behavior I expect to see when unplugging a cord from the laptop. It also doesn't help that you did not show the profile when you did unplug it. So potentially there is more performance on battery than what you demonstrated. Remember laptops have to energy profiles. One for on cord and one on battery. So having it on balance mode on cord doesn't mean it will stay in balance mode on battery.
Why does this dude always look so happy in every video. Is life this good in canada?
Is the lab going to be developing a method for quantifying deck flex of laptops and keyboards?
It's by default to 30 fps in the GeForce experience app on battery
Remember when Alex tossed and dropped that decked out laptop, and then stopped tossing the laptops. I wish he’d stop, or drop it. Either way works.
Stop asking for 16:10. 16:9 is objectively a better ratio because it provides a more seamless experience for movies and when connecting to a TV.
0:00 - Maybe it's just me, but it irks me quite a bit when reviewers toss around laptops.
The way This cartoon Dennis the menace Handles the laptops .
Love this Waterfall extra addon :D is so Relaxing :d
nvidia controls battery fps with battery boost which you can disable in geforce experience
This is exactly how a dog feels while watching us eat.
Thing turned into a switch in a second when he pulled the power 😂
Was there a pair of SODIMMS? Various sites selling the 4080 config specifiy 16 GB? One or two dimms? Big oversight on your tear down bro... just saying.
