For anyone else that buys this, if you have issues with the default calls being forced RTT, you can disable it by going into the settings mobile network and setting 3g only then in Google phone go to the 3 dots top right settings then the RTT disable toggle is revealed. You can then re enable 5g. I sent this info to red magic and they told me it'll be fixed in the January patch It seems no reviewers reviewed this phone as a... phone?
@@kiloneie nobody reviews the call interface for phones, it's been like that for years now and I kinda get it. Phones have so many features they just go in depth on that stuff, and there are lots of alternatives to making a call other than the phone part of your phone. I must have used the phone app maybe 3 times in the last 2 months - 99% of the calls I get that way are scam attempts, actual people use the call feature on apps.
you have to remember these reviewers don't even use the phone as a phone, they have whatsapp, discord, zoom, and even Microsoft and google have their own apps to call, video-call and chat on a workspace environment, every single one of this apps works better for calls and they are FREE to use whenever you want for any period of time, as long as you have internet, wich everybody around youtube has both at home and work, the only thing phone services is good for nowadays is for 5g internet while outside and that's it, the "phone" service is just more and more obsolete as years go by
Not only reviewers, but QA. My OnePlus phone had an update that completely broke the ability to make/receive phone calls. It took them 2 months to fix it. I had to switch back to my old phone because of it.
I swear the fan airflow isn't colder than ambient when the phone has low load. It just FEELS colder, because moving air removes more heat from your skin than static air would.
You're right it isn't. It's evaporating the sweat on his hand/exchanging heat faster as the air blows past. I don't think he thought it was literally colder he was just saying the phone was running cool.

Having spend over a thousand euros on the Samsung S23 when it was the new flagship, i would be more interested to find out how this gaming phone stacks up against a flagship phone of that price. I mean, if it comes decently close, then you can argue that the gaming part is a bonus. Because, honestly, when i heard a starting price of 650, and up to, 1000, i actually thought, 'wow, that's pretty cheap'.
in short it depends what u need... if u game alot and dont need other features alot then the specific gaming phones might be the better option... or a bit cheaper option to get that hardware... so if u need a phone that u primarily game on go for it...
I have both the samsung s23 and the red magic 8pro (they have the same gen processors and came out around the same time). I found that hardware wise they both feel the same, plenty fast to run most games on the market at high fps. The redmagic falls behind with some lack of software functionality and bugs I feel, as well as the cameras being inferior both hardware and software wise. However, for the price the red magic is a far better deal if you don't need/care about camera stuff as much, as well as are willing to deal with some scuffed software stuff. The hardware specs make the phone really fast, and the display is just flat amazing with 0 cutouts and high framerate
Just having a fan in your phone will beat all flagship phones without one. All phones throttle speed when they get too hot and generally it only takes 10 - 20 mins unless there is a fan or a special custom cooling solution.
So Red Magic is basically a subsidiary of ZTE who are banned by various countries over security concerns… but because ZTE strategically reduced their stake in Red Magic to 49.9% they can claim Red Magic is an independent company even though it’s very clear who is actually pulling the strings.
Watching this on my redmagic 10 pro. Its freaking crazy good. Software is stable, battery is godly. Charges crazy fast. Honestly a great buy for 600 bucks
I myself have Redmagic 10 Pro 16 gb 512gb but not using anymore .Where its slow wifi the redmagic 10 pro strugle to load aps and some apps even dont load.On my Iphone 14 Pro Max i can easy load aps on low speed wifi and aps load realy fast .And if u compare Redmagic 10 pro to 14 Pro Max in aps then the Iphone 14 Pro Max stil wins .Like when i load UA-cam and scol then the Redmagic 10 Pro realy strugle to load them fast .Compared to my 14 Pro Max on UA-cam when scolling all videos load instand.Same with Facebook when scrolling Remagic strugle to load fast compare to my Iphone all load instand.
It’s a shame that these things are basically throw away devices with only 1 update. (Not to mention the fact that zte was banned because of security concerns and is now pushing these devices, which are basically zte devices)
9:06 They support rooting so you can easily flash lineage os in there for future updates, compared to asus phones that software locks their devices even though they used to advertise rooting/unlocking the bootloader, a feature
absolutely wrong, starting from the 8S pro series they removed the oem unlocking command completely from their firmware and the only way to root the 8S pro series was to flash the bootloader from the 8 pro (non S series) in EDL mode which they didn't restrict (yet) the 9 pro series could only be rooted because of a leaked engineering bootloader months after as far as i know they don't open source anything so custom rom development is basically impossible and the only thing you could try is flashing a GSI (and pls not the aosp one linus once tried) but that obviously breaks a lot of features there is no official way for bootloader unlocking anymore the verdict of ZTE/Nubia/Redmagic on the bootloader unlock wall of shame is terrible after the 2 years of security updates it's over and your device is left vulnerable even xiaomi low/mid range devices get 4 years the only reason they do this is so we have to buy a new device every 2 years people may complain about apple sometimes but what redmagic is doing is way worse if you care about root/custom rom development i recommend you always check the xda developers forum first
software suck and no updates either pick iqoo 13 or oneplus 13 if you want better main and telephoto both good heat management and usually don't dim under load but iqoo is the better gaming phone

@@MrNick99 My guess is the dual cell design. You'll have 2 batteries wearing down per charge cycle. Even with slow charging, it came down pretty quick according to Accubattery. I install that on every phone. I recently recalibrated it too so hopefully the RM10 fixed that with better batteries.
@3:40 how does the labs team account for long term battery life, if at all possible? I've worked cell phone tech for 5 or so years in the past and internal documents from companies like apple support that there is a "honeymoon" period for a phone where it's battery will quickly lose about 10% of it's overall charge capacity, then through the effective life of the phone much more steadily decline before hitting the "well shit" point where it starts quickly destabilizing again after 3 to 5 years-ish.

What I think I've seen everyone miss about gaming phones is I've got little monos to take pictures of (like the waifu he's pretending to be interested in) so testing the macro camera is essential.
This is way overspec'ed for my needs (I don't game on my phone) and therefore too expensive for my tastes, but it's exactly the form factor I want in a budget phone. The fact it's fullscreen (tiny bezels, no cutout/notch/teardrop) should be shouted from the rooftops (Samsung and Apple can't manage to do this in any of their phones!)...it's just sad that it takes an expensive gaming phone to do this. 6-7 years ago, you could get a fullscreen Android phone without breaking the bank, but so many Android phones have idiotically copied the idea of Apple's terrible notch that fullscreen phones are incredibly hard to find now. I've resorted to a second-hand OnePlus 7T Pro from 2019 with an Android 15 custom ROM for now - fullscreen with a motorised camera (whatever happened to those - give you better quality than underscreen cameras and are far more durable than people gave them credit for).
Samsung’s Z fold has had an under display camera for at least 3 generations. Major smartphone makers don’t use that tech because the image quality is not up to par. It’s still a day and night difference.
Been daily-driving the REDMAGIC 8 Pro for almost two years now. Super happy with the hardware (I seldom take photos), but the software leaves quite a few things to be desired. For example the screen touch locking mechanic during (idle)gaming is lacking and unlocks too easily (often unlocks on accident in your pocket). But worst thing about the software is the forced battery optimization which puts apps to sleep and renders their function useless and you often miss notifications because they stop working as well. For example, when I don't use my alarm app for two days, it won't ring the alarm on the third day if I don't open it at least once. There were more annoyances like this, but I've either found a work-around or got kind of used to them by now. Other than that these phones are pretty cool and very nice to game on. I hope this might help someone with their decision-making.
@DBRONCOSfan I remember there was a time whrn cavepersons had a device that allowed them to speak to another a few metres away. Due to the high network costs, cost of living, and inflation, Caveperson could not keep up the monthly payments, so the technoloy died out.
Been eyeing this as a replacement for my OnePlus 9 Pro that's losing security patches in March. Can't let go of crazy fast charging, I just can't. I can't go back.
I picked up the Red Magic 9 when I needed a new phone. I don't play many games on my phone and the ones I do don't really benefit that much (Pokemon Go, Balatro) but I do love the form factor. I just need the non-gaming version of this phone for people who don't care about front cameras and just want a flat blank rectangle with a headphone jack. I miss the Xperia phones but they changed the form factor with the newer ones and now they suck. I actually have left the Mora background on (with the sound off), I kind of wish she did have a bit more functionality, it would be neat.
So... has a 3.5mm jack, battery is 7050mAh, GaN charger, screen is 1.5K 2000 Nits 144Hz with almost no bezel, and doesn't care to be "slim", just be flat? Looks cool on top of that all? Top 1TB 24GB Ram version for 999$ ? Still cheaper than flagship S Ultra, Xperia or Iphone? Man, if REDMAGIC was a bit more known and mainstream, Smasnug and the "China Gang" would have a problem. What I would give to somehow magically combine REDMAGIC's screen, battery, price and look with Sony's audio and camera. Give me Iphone's OS stability and two or three android updates, then you would have ultimate smartphone.
I mean, the camera experience is worse, and basically no software support is crazy. Still, its a REALLY good phone, just not a generalist like most phones. I mean, if you want pictures, you are gonna go for the X200 Pro, for audio any of the sony stuff, and for gaming Redmagic also can't say anything about their OS

@jerryh559 damn, and some people even say that it's a smartphone from the future Also Linus has argued that ShortCircuit is an unboxing channel and not a review channel and that reviews can't be sponsored
The camera setup is closer to what a mid-range phone from Vivo/Xiaomi/Oppo/realme would have, and the relatively short update availability (just up to Android 16, and then just two security updates afterwards) means you're paying a lot for all of the features that it does have. And based on gsmarena's testing, the fan doesn't stop the CPU from throttling (although to be fair it's during a benchmark, not during their "IRL gaming/video playback" tests).
the problem that I have with Gaming Phones is that when you are buying the phone for 800 bucks you could have bought a steam deck and a mid range phone and may even have some money left over for a game. the only reason why I could see someone buying a gaming phone is for it fitting in your pocket. But when you are comuting with a bag on a train pulling a steam deck from the bag and playing on that is better in every way that I can think of. The Battery of your Gaming device is seperate from your phone so the phone battery isn't drained from gaming, the screen is bigger, the controller included, the games on playstore are either not that good, filled with ads, pay to win bs so what should I be playing on a gaming phone: emulators is the only thing that comes to my mind and the steam deck could also play those and more emulators are supported on pc than android as far as I know.
I've been using the rm10 for a few weeks now and once I found out what mora was it got switched off in the first 2 minutes after having a chuckle with the kids but apart from that there's a few functions I'm used to on a Samsung that aren't present on this and some functions that are partially there but not very well executed. Overall a decent experience once it's all set up.
I got the Shadow version a few days ago and I didn't know about Mora until this video. 'cause it's nowhere stated in the packaging. But then I didn't buy it because of the gaming features, despite it being a dedicated gaming phone, but for the design. I really hate camera bumbs and notches / hole punches. That's why I had my Xiaomi Mi 9T for almost 5,5 years now. The Redmagic 10 Pro is a beautiful powerhouse.
I like that there's no camera bump, the absurd battery, almost everything else about this phone. However, I put a case on every phone I own for both handleability and in case I drop the damn thing and this doesn't look like it was designed for that.
One small comment on the battery testing methodology in case the team sees it. Totally get having the volume at 0%, but in that case it feels like having bluetooth ON (and maybe even connected to an external speaker or headphones) would be more useful data than bluetooth off. As someone with bluetooth earbuds, android auto and a smart watch, my bluetooth is never off and I imagine it's the same for a lot of people.
That's an X because this is Red Magic's 10th iteration of this phone. And also, hell will freeze before I start calling twitter "X" or assiciating it with this letter.
Spec and design-wise I think this is absolutely perfect. Love to bezel-less design and no freaking camera-bump. I heard that Redmagics update policy is pretty bad though
No it's even better then a normal non gaming phone, as it has battery made for gaming, using it as a normal phone makes the battery last for days. I use it for work too, with dual sim. If I don't game on it i can go 2 days without charging. Compared to my previous phone that had to be charged 2-3 times a day, on work days.
If this had wireless charging it'd be an instant buy for me. That insane battery, the beautiful all screen design, the flat back, the headphone jack, and it's affordable?!
It's good that your battery test is still under development tbh. Watching a move at 0% volume with Bluetooth and location services off isn't a real world scenario. I myself have both bluetooth and location services always on, I think most users will. And why does it have an X logo on the back!?
unless there's a heatpump in there any exhaust can't be colder than ambient. because physics. if you feel the breeze of the fan some evaporative cooling happens on your skin but the air isn't below ambient temps
If I could get this phone without the fan and gamer/weeb fluff and with long term OS updates I would be thrilled. Huge battery life. No bump. No notch/hole punch. Thats my ideal phone. I rarely take pictures so even last gen cameras is totally fine with me.
The weeb stuff is in the game mode, just avoid using the gamer switch thing. I think it's a cool party trick, so I wouldn't mind it. Long term updates are a big bummer though.
@@AxlDope "if I could get this phone without the gamer/weeb stuff" Nubia own Red magic, so underneath they're pretty much the same phone. The camera being probably the biggest difference. The bit about no bump is in the next line, so I semi skimmed over it 🤷
Even outside of gaming, this is one compelling phone imo. If it had better update support, a microSD card, and a dedicated shutter button.. it would be perfect. I wonder if you can use the shoulder buttons as a fake shutter tho.
1 Android update support is unacceptable for a flagship level phone. It might not matter that much for regular user, but in corporate environments it would get kicked out quickly due to security concerns and become e-waste after ~2 years.

I actually just ordered the maxed out 10 Pro because it's cheaper than the maxed out ROG Phone 9 Pro, and as a user of the 8 Pro I expected this phone to last longer for the amount I paid for it. However, one of the type C ports has been flickering when I charge it or do data transfer, and within the last month something happened with the speakers where I'm getting horrific distortion at even just half volume. For anyone else that buys this, if you have issues with the default calls being forced RTT, you can disable it by going into the settings mobile network and setting 3g only then in Google phone go to the 3 dots top right settings then the RTT disable toggle is revealed. You can then re enable 5g. I sent this info to red magic and they told me it'll be fixed in the January patch

@@kiloneielots of phones to test, to be fair

Because, honestly, when i heard a starting price of 650, and up to, 1000, i actually thought, 'wow, that's pretty cheap'.
the phone has been out for a minute . there are many comparison vids already
in short it depends what u need... if u game alot and dont need other features alot then the specific gaming phones might be the better option... or a bit cheaper option to get that hardware... so if u need a phone that u primarily game on go for it...
It lacks telephoto camera.
Just having a fan in your phone will beat all flagship phones without one.
All phones throttle speed when they get too hot and generally it only takes 10 - 20 mins unless there is a fan or a special custom cooling solution.

the 9 pro series could only be rooted because of a leaked engineering bootloader months after
as far as i know they don't open source anything so custom rom development is basically impossible and the only thing you could try is flashing a GSI (and pls not the aosp one linus once tried) but that obviously breaks a lot of features

How is it for making phone calls?

@jerryh559Nahh, you are salty because your so called gaming phone ROG is bad

Been using this for 3 weeks, love it!
Same, best phone i ever had, no downsides.
The twitter logo on the back is an interesting choice.
That's an X because this is Red Magic's 10th iteration of this phone. And also, hell will freeze before I start calling twitter "X" or assiciating it with this letter.
Imagine being offended 😂
Spec and design-wise I think this is absolutely perfect. Love to bezel-less design and no freaking camera-bump. I heard that Redmagics update policy is pretty bad though
I really like the design of these phones, they really stand out. But I just know a “gaming phone” would be a nightmare to live with day to day.
i have it, i like it. it turns out its a phone
Why would it be a nightmare to live with?
Why?
Why (making a response just to be notified if there's an answer)
No it's even better then a normal non gaming phone, as it has battery made for gaming, using it as a normal phone makes the battery last for days. I use it for work too, with dual sim. If I don't game on it i can go 2 days without charging. Compared to my previous phone that had to be charged 2-3 times a day, on work days.
If this had wireless charging it'd be an instant buy for me. That insane battery, the beautiful all screen design, the flat back, the headphone jack, and it's affordable?!
Reminder: Protogens go beep boop
It's good that your battery test is still under development tbh. Watching a move at 0% volume with Bluetooth and location services off isn't a real world scenario. I myself have both bluetooth and location services always on, I think most users will. And why does it have an X logo on the back!?
Sponsored reviews are just ads at this point.
No sure what you thought sponsored meant.
at 0:05 it says Sponsored by REDMAGIC
unless there's a heatpump in there any exhaust can't be colder than ambient. because physics. if you feel the breeze of the fan some evaporative cooling happens on your skin but the air isn't below ambient temps
Then youre after the Nubia Z70 Ultra. There are some differences, but the hardware is largely the same (Nubia owns RedMagic)
@@sintjinansley6107 how does the Z70 Ultra comes to your mind when the OP mentioned "no bumb"? The Z70 Ultra has a pretty hefty bumb.
@@AxlDope "if I could get this phone without the gamer/weeb stuff"
Nubia own Red magic, so underneath they're pretty much the same phone.
The camera being probably the biggest difference. The bit about no bump is in the next line, so I semi skimmed over it 🤷
The fan can be entirely disabled, and all the gamer and "weeb stuff" are entirely optional
The problem starts with someone using a GAMING phone on a corporate enviroment... dont blame the product for the usar failure
Bought it for my brother as an early christmas gift (upgraded from motorola edge 2023)..
upgrade is top tier everything.
People spend more than 1k on an iPhone
I've had the 8 Pro since it's release. A bit disappointed they rushed out the 10 less than a year after the 9, wanted a bit more time before upgrading to the 10.
Either way, the 8 runs smooth, with the AMOLED panel and aux port. It makes gaming and watching anime so much better.
0:28 WallWort?????? so i guess that the new name we are giving it now
that's all i've ever known them by
Wall wort/wall wart is a pretty common name
New? Lol
wall wart
Seems to be a regional thing
I actually just ordered the maxed out 10 Pro because it's cheaper than the maxed out ROG Phone 9 Pro, and as a user of the 8 Pro I expected this phone to last longer for the amount I paid for it. However, one of the type C ports has been flickering when I charge it or do data transfer, and within the last month something happened with the speakers where I'm getting horrific distortion at even just half volume. I saw my Redmagic 8S sitting in a drawer the other day, remembered what a nice experience I had with that phone, and ordered the 10 Pro.
$1000 is not crazy given iPhone and Samsung prices.
It’s crazy when there’s no future updates or wifi 7 and no esim and no water resistance and with bad cameras! this phone is a scam
@@cia4gent128 it has water resistance, its also IP54 and does have wifi 7, has for esim almost nobody cares about that feature. as for the updates it has 1 years of android os update, 2 years of Redmagic os updates and 3 years of security updates, unless you keep your phone for 5 years or more, for a gaming phone its more than enough even today the redmagic 7 series still gets supports, which i can't say the same with asus rog.

It’s 3000¥ in China, or 380$, it’s just the 130% tariff, just like the triple fold which got from 1300$ to 3500$.
imagine the 1tb model has a microsd card slot with limits on capacity being 1tb... a 2tb gaming phone with an audio jack. What people definetly need
Next time clean your nails and wash your hands doing reviews that need super close ups of the hand, didn't Linus give you this TechTip already?
“Gaming” phones are silly. A phone is not for gaming, a phone is for phoneing and messaging at its core, web browsing and social media, sure. But a gaming phone is heavy, huge and overly expensive. Buy yourself a gaming pc and a used phone (iPhone 12s are cheap these days) and then you can stream games at a higher quality and a massive library.
Fight me, or don’t. You know I’m right
Yeah id buy a steam deck before buying this...
Lol, as a phone gamer I disagree
Also games like genshin, wuwa, infinity nikki will benefit from the latest specs
