DNF duel is possibly the worst fighting game released in the past 5 years. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #fgc #fightinggames #dnfduel #anime #guiltygearstrive #streetfighter #gaming
This game had a lot of potential to evolve into something great with an interesting cast and gameplay that coulda been refined over time. But that takes Dev support and dedication. You have to show your initial base and people interested in the game that you care about it’s future, much less show the consumer that it has a future. It’s hard to say if what we got with this game was always what was intended or if some behind the scenes issues held it back. There was and still is so much silence coming from developers. The first patch when it finally came was weak. It took forever for the next one and it feels like we’ve been gas lit about new characters. Lots of fighting games have issues but when you handle it right you can keep people believing in your game. We shoulda had at least 2 new characters in game by now and gameplay tweaks
The fact that the first DLC character is coming out almost a whole year later feels very stupid. I was convinced the first character would be out by spring at the latest. It feels like they weren't expecting to support this game.
@@EternalGuardian07 when they first announced spectre late last year I expected gameplay to shortly follow and a the character to be released within the month with more news and details of the future to follow. We got teased and then dev silence again. The recent announcement only made it look like they had barely started back then and had nothing to show. They barely have anything now.
I disagree with the interesting cast bit. It honestly looks very typical of anime casts, and like most anime-games, INSISTS that it's entire roster is human (even the characters that aren't SUPPOSED to be human) which generally leaves very little room for creativity. While there are some... ehhh... okay designs and characters, most of them ar just so generic that I couldn't care about them even if they had brilliant writting.
Neat video but there's two notable problems with it. -Comparing DNF Duel's promotion to SF6. A game that was formally announced well after DNF Duel launched. A better comparison would've been something like MK11, Strive, Melty Blood, etc. -Solely blaming ArcSys. As you've mentioned, DNF Duel is based on the existing IP Dungeon Fighter Online. A Nexon owned IP. Much like Granblue Versus, most of the blame goes to the IP holder and not the co-developer (Eighting also developed DNF Duel). Nexon is dictating what the game should and shouldn't have in terms of stages, characters, character designs (Launcher being base FGunner's outfit with FMechanic's hair and goggles), and even manhandling the scheduling. For all we know, Nexon could've been forcing the devs to rush the game out to meet a deadline that aligned with a DFO update.
Not to mention, a case study could be made about this, since GBVS is getting everything people wanted from the game with Rising, meaning, Cygames DID listen to their playerbase and improved their product to meet demands, total opposite of Nexon.
Agree, but we can't be sure yet, maybe it's arc system's fault just because they usually make good games does not mean they can't just decide to be incompetent, or maybe it is indeed the Ip holder some are really hard to work with. Lets hold the blame torches, and distribute then rightly when we have more information.
@@otaconzalgo1741 Arcsystem works was just a co developer, 8ing ( the devs who made UMvC3, Fate Unlimited Swords and Tatsunoko vs Capcom ) also co developed along side them. They are not the holders of the i.p or publishers
@@aegisreflector1239 I know that, I am just saying that I don't have enough information to say for sure who messed up, fighterz also had absurd problems for a long time in balancing, if it was not a Dbz property I am not sure if it would have lasted, in other words I don't wanna just go throwing blame at the publisher just because Arc system did good work in the past, I am not going to assume blame for neither.
The game isn't an Arc System Works owned game though so they're not really losing any money on this as they're paid only to do the work for the owners of the IP who wanted this game made. This is all Nexon's doing. We can't really fault ASW for the way this game turned out as they are only doing what Nexon wants them to do and approve of. The warning signs of this game was already there from the very beginning about if you should steer clear of the game or give it a shot. Nexon is infamous for their pump and dump attitude towards their IPs. If it isn't a huge seller on their end like the Maple Story or Mabinogi / Mabinogi Heroes franchise, you need to be cautious about investing time and money in their next project. If you bought the game having full knowledge of their history and still felt hurt over it, you can't blame no one but yourself (which most of the FGC found out). If you bought the game having full knowledge of this and put your expectations to the lowest setting as possible (like myself), then you walked away from this knowing the game was destined to fail and not be so hurt about it. I'm sorry, even if it has ASW name over it for making it, as long as NEXON's name show up, it is more than likely going to fail.
@@davidgray3983 the bane of kr mmos. Worst part is that a lot of their games had great potenial, but never recieved the care and developpment support required to stay alive ...
@davidgray3983 it's not too weird. Some of us in the FGC grew up on KR live service games. It's just rare that some of us are invested in them such as myself (been with it since Ragnarok Online went into beta for the first time for Global back in 2001).
Because every character has its own bullshit move.the game was way less unbalanced than people think. Players were just too scrubby to test other options and decided the game was doomed, on their own. The main issue with the game was solely on Nexon's incompetece in marketing and maintaining he game
DNF Duel is the most beautiful *_kusoge_* to have ever been made. Gorgeous to look at, with some really cool character designs and fantastic music...and some ABSURDLY BROKEN gameplay.
DNF Duel players at launch I have not had this much fun with a fighting game in a looong time bro. 2 weeks later, 95% of the player base drops it. LMFAO
@@kwillzmz No it wasn't. People just didn't know what they were doing. Friendly reminder that during beta 1, Sonicsol did a 75% combo with Striker. This was done with little knowledge of the game and no training mode.
@@Wizard_Lizard_ Yeah you got a point there and which was mainly one of Punks main points how fighting games can be a lot more fun when your not labbing some YT training mode combos. It was fun figuring out things on the fly. Only begs to question what if they had training mode in on day 1 of beta 1 lol
I think what used to frustrate people. Is that some character had touch of death combos, when in the awakening state, which was not difficult to execute or hard to find an opening for it. So like some people put in all that work, and they are full health, enemy is at pixel health. Then gets a hit in and just 1 combos them to death, and it was quite common too. I honestly think if they removed the stuff where a character can touch you just once, or 2 touch, or 3-4 touch you to death type of combos. Music, character designs, and artwork was fabulous though and the stages. But i honestly feel the just touching you once, twice, or four times to death combos is what scared away casual players, and also upset a lot of veteran fighting game players.
You can see that from matches between enchantress vs berserker on youtube. She is in the lead, everything is going well; She missed once and berserker wiped her out. Every match was like that.
"3-4 touch to death combos" I don't play DNF Duel but isn't this like every modern fighting game out there? or do you mean they are getting so much out of a jab?
@@math001 I would say in most modern fighting game you need ressources or some conditions to have access to it. But in dnf duel it is always there. You miss you are dead. Watch berserker vs anyone.
@@chrispo7610 I never play that one but from the matches I saw, it never end like that. There are things you can do; It is never one-sided game like dnf. The pros said there is a "rule" you need to always follow. Make you sure you kill your opponent.
If he had said "in a modern fighting game" sure. Compared to games of like 12 to 30 years ago, it's just another game. Hokuto No Ken, Sengoku Basara X and Fate Unlimited Codes were all ultra volatile anime games that were either more grounded than other anime games or in the case of Fate basically completely grounded.
ASW only lend their graphics engine mainly. Eighting did all the balancing and stuff on the gameplay front. People get it mixed up all the time. Overall I agree with the vid cause alot of this I felt this way and im pretty open to fgs but this game was a very love it or hate it type of game and most people these days are not down for this type of stuff especially with its conflicting gameplay choices.
Here's the thing about DNF Duel. There's an audience out there for busted-ass games. Some people like spending time with those games and pushing the limits of what you can do. However, even those players aren't interested in DNF Duel, because it's busted in a boring way. It's not like Marvel where you use your assists to put your opponent into a lethal mixup situation, or Fist of the North Star where you can basketball dribble your opponent to death, in DNF Duel you just... hit your fullscreen buttons which your opponent can't play around because of the sluggish movement, start your blockstring that chips out their entire guard bar, and then do an easy combo into super to kill them. Nothing to lab, nothing to practice, nothing cool to show off. Doesn't appeal to casual players or hardcore fighting game fans. Plus the really strong awakening affects essentially meant that you were rewarded for being on low health, which I think it's safe to say most players don't find fun.
It's not up to just Arcsys to patch the game, it's not made by just them, it's them, 8-ing, Neople and it's owned by Nexon, who made the game it's based on and owns the IP. I heard Nexon is very stingy with the IP so I guess making any updates to the game is probably a nightmare, more so when you consider the amount of different studios working on it. They did announce a new character, but no news ever since. I'm glad I didn't buy it, I wanted to but I never buy games at launch so I waited and planned to buy it after the holidays. I'm glad but I'm also sad because I really wanted to try it, but that's not gonna happen if no one is playing the game besides people that were grinding since launch.
Nexon is also legendary in their refusal to communicate with fans which is kind of a death sentence for fighting games. Like players want roadmap and assurance that things will be addressed. Nexon will go radio silent for forever then drop a sudden update.
Arc System Works made the skin of DNF Duel. The meat and bones was made by Eighting. Looking at previous Eighting titles like Fate/Unlimited Codes, MVC3 and Tatsunoko vs Capcom, DNF Duel shares far more with those three than with even Granblue Fantasy Versus.
9:07 that is super cap that despite me disliking the state of the game that mechanic is actually pretty good. At optimized levels you must use motion inputs in order to get maximum damage from fitting more moves in. Which I applaud since it uses people who may cannot do motion inputs have a leg to stand on whereas people who can do them will benefit heavily from them.
Honestly this video has more issues than that. DNF Duel has its issues and hopefully Nexon/Neople (Not ArcSys, they're not at fault. Hell, 8ing is the dev.) will get their act together.
This kind of feels like a fighting game that would be made in the 90s where you just took a random IP and made a fighting game of it, kinda like the Inuyasha game. A game that was never meant to be a huge success, just something for fans of that franchise. But the modern gaming landscape requires everything to be a massive banger because of every game demanding all your time
I agree with some of the things you pointed out but I also think it's unfair to compare a game like dnf to street fighter, the face of fighting games and the entire fgc. Street fighter is a legacy title that has been around for years and amassed a huge following/community and money. Comparing that to a brand new IP of a franchise only popular in Korea is unfair imo.
DNF isn't just big in Korea. It's also big in China and iirc it was one of the most, if not the most populated MMO in the world at one point specifically because of the Chinese market. Taking that into account this game dying is an even bigger fumble.
@@rh7474 Sure, but this game appeals to a completly different audience than the actual DNF game, i imagine. It doesn't matter how big the original franchise is if the spin-off fails to capture that attention.
Omg you basically said the EXACT same points I would say when telling people why I didn't like the game, it's so refreshing to hear someone else say it too. I just felt a weight lift off my chest. I was so hyped for this game, but after the 2nd beta I decided to not even buy it because of how bad everything felt.
theres alot of misinformation in this video. 1.Not every anime game are force to have air blocking or air dashing. thats not a good reason to dislike a game because one game has airdashes. 2. Every anime game has long oppresive buttons and TOD's from in system game mechanics like sparking from DBFZ for example. Also the TOD you showed with LW is fake and characters in this game only have TOD's when they are in awakening or punishing a DP and usually DP punishes have to be a low health character like swift master. overall theres hardly TOD's in this game. 3.Also the "unbalance" part was only acceptable before swift master got nerfed. after the first patch every character in this game was toping events except for launcher and LW. shows you havent been keeping up with the game entirely and is basically misinformation. 4. The guard metter complaint is hypocritical cuz alot of fighting games have guard metter and guard break set ups and preasure and this game is no different. getting 70% of your health taken away just means that you didnt properly use guard cancel and stayed blocking or you just dont know the match up to roll out of situations that can lead you to a guard break. they also removed true guard breaks the first patch of the game so guard breaking mindlessly doesnt exist anymore. 5.also the lack of content is hypocritical considering that alot of fighting game for years were released with nothing but 1v1 battles and the only one that changed was SF6. people been playing these games with half content and said nothing but then out of now where use that excuse towards this game to throw it under a buss for zero reason aside from being "not strive" us stupid. 6.The main reason why everyone hates this game out of the blue is cuz unlike strive, this game is not forgiving. theres no wall break to save you or a burst mechanic. strive is designed to be as chaoticly beginner friendly game as posible with how the game is formated by the devs. they want you to work less and earn big which is why people stayed. a random person can mash in strive and win games at the highest rank with how random it intentionally is. DNF is the opposite of that, if you not playing right you die and theres nothing to hold your hand when playing the game just like older fighting games. 7. the main thing that TRUELY killed this game is the lack of dev communication but as far as that goes by how silent they were at even announcing a character. not to mention regional pricing is terrible is some areas to be 400 equivalent to USD in some areas. this game is not bad, yeah it has huge buttons and its sometimes annoying but aside from that the game is better then most anime fighting games out there. but its the community that throws it down the drain do to scrub mentality. modern fgc players dont wanna adapt and spend time learning they just wanna imedietly win.
At least you get it, you must be a viewer of dnf tournaments or a player at least. Unfortunately no one else will read what you have written. Instead they'll continually compare this game to Strive lmao
THANK YOU. Best comment here. The people who have the most shit to say about DNF literally never even played the game, or if they did they played for maybe 1 hour during the open betas. The balance in the game has become less and less of an issue over time, and the people who still blame the balance don't even play or follow the game to know that the nerfs and changes made have remedies those problems. Lack of dev communication and horrible pricing are the biggest culprits behind this game's poor state. Unfortunately people will continue to bandwagon misleading information about the game and continue the needless hate train on it.
I'm really hainous towards the game because i loved it so much, it pains me to see how little fucks the devs gave. Absolutely no update besides some small balancing update. It died within months and just for the disastrous communication of the team alone, this game deserved it's fate .
Its quite sad how this game turned out. I've always said how if this was an Arcsys game this game would still be up and popular, but I never in my life seen the death of a game hit so hard in my gaming life and they decided to try to do a season pass way past its death. I'm going to still support the game because I still love this game, I just wish things were handled differently
Hearing ur friend gamer rage was hilarious 😂😂" this is y I don't play fighting games" 😂altho if he is that upset by them he should probably not play them at all. Not worth the sanity. I get there sometimes myself ( which is y it's funny I can relate) but dang dude havent heard fgc rage like that in a minute.
I hope the game comes back. I played a bit of DFO back in high school, and I was pretty hyped to see it get a fighting game - one that looks visually beautiful, no less. I can't really play it on Steam or PlayStation, but I'm hoping to pick it up once the Switch version drops. Really hoping the season pass/roadmap and the Switch release reinvigorate it.
I am still a dnf duel believer, I am dnf duel’s strongest soldier, if dnf duel has 1 fan left on earth, I am them. THEY ANNOUNCED A ROADMAP INTO NEXT YEAR AT ARC WORLD TOUR FINALS AND I AM HYPED FOR IT.
4:25 this just sounds like your friend salty rage. The game was too expensive for what it was. If it was like $30 or $20 on release guaranteed more interests more people and longer longevity. These money grab companies just do that. Game has had 0 new content since launch. They got their money. They are out. Game play was fine. Tons of games release busted af. Some beloved games that are still played today are busted af with w tiny amount of playable characters. Don’t make a whiny balance video like everyone else does. That wasn’t the issue.
Im cool with dnf dying and granblue continuing. I loved Granblue but the online was so bad I had to only play it with my friend who I knew irl. so Im glad it's getting another chance and I hope the fgc will keep it alive for a couple of years at least. Ps. I didn't want dnf to die but arc sys spending the time to give granblue another Chance after it getting destroyed by COVID is great.
Granblue is really fun. I don't think the online was bad though. The worst part is just that it's hard to find a game, as it is with a lot of fighters.
I feel so fuking relieved to hear someone say “why doesn’t this game have an air block” the amount of scrubs that would mash super a soon as you jump was insane
I installed the game, looked at the move list, laughed hysterically at a game for geriatric old women, I'm glad it's dead. As someone who is 42 but just got serious about fighting games, it is very disappointing to see the casual "movement" ruining a genre that should always be about skill. Casuals don't keep games alive in the long run, it's the hard core dedicated players who learn to input a shoryuken and learn how to play. everyone can pretend that it is not the case but that is how it is no matter what other excuses anyone can pull out of their rear end.
great vid, I was wonderin' where this game disappeared too. sounds like a huge unfair generator of FGC salt... i wanna play it even more now. imagine the pop-offs/upsets that would happen at tournaments off of one mistake, an environment like that feels alive
Its not the mechanics that killed this game... nexon responded very late to feedback and left the game in a shitty state after launch for months on end, only making changes that did not directly respond to playerbase initially, and after another long wait, made relevant changes but by this time, everyone had left. Nexon then announced dlc roadmap which should have been done right after launch, but by this time no one stuck around to care. Poor management killed it, mechanics were not the issue.
You mean this small third party fighting game doesn't have comparable support and content to the highest budget fighting game ever made!? Who would have thought?
The thing that made me drop the game was the first balance patch. It came out around 2-3 months after the game came out and only changed 3 characters in minor ways. At that point I felt there was no hope of the game getting the improvements it needed
DnF Duel was everything redditors wanted, and they didn't like it 🤣🤣🤣. Even scrubs on r/fighters couldn't force themselves to like this game. Influencers will hype up any game for views but DnF was generally never well received by the fgc. Arcsy also can't continue to make their games offensive heavy, easy mode fighting games all the time. Worked for Fighterz, primarily due to the IP. Worked for Strive since a brand new audience were welcoming to their first 1v1 anime fighter after the success of Fighterz
I was an inquisitor main. Playing practically every matchup was just pain. After a while I just quit. The bad balance and lack of options to get into my gameplan just killed the game for me. I'm far from the best but imagine every other Inquisitor player encountering what I encountered. They probably all quit for the same or similar reasons.
2022 was looking as a hype year with alot of announcement and trailer but we didn't get a Single decent fighting games, sure kof15 is there but match making been broken for over a year, dnf is fun but have no content, this year however will be the best year for fighting game players
I’m still not over the fact you can’t airblock in this game. You have full screen normals on almost every character but no air blocking. Fucking Christ
Man I used to play dfo, I didn’t even realize that a fighting game was coming out of it. It looks SOOO nostalgic, but sucks that it didn’t do well. If y’all want an mmo to play that doesn’t have the best server population except for Asian servers y’all should check it out.
@@TehStylishone He did compare it to SF5... He compared it to SF5 after release when talking about how things can be added later to make a game objectively better overtime, and then he compared marketing and modes to SF6. Everything else he didn't draw a line of comparison. He simply stated how some things were bad on a fundamental level. Examples: • The awakening system • The guard gauge (in a game with this level of offense) • Horrible mobility • Lack of defensive tools
@@Wizard_Lizard_ He compared promised features of SF6's marketing to a released game's features. It was stupid, no way around that. The rest of the video was alright.
"This is why I don't play fighting games." Do yourself a favor and don't include these kinds of people in videos ABOUT fighting games unless it's relevant. I get DNF had issues but it sounds like Homeboy just hates fighting games...
Whenever I see "Nexon" in a game's publisher or developer, I run as far away as I can. Having played their games when I was younger, I start to realize that Nexon is one of the greediest sons of losers ever. Heck, even the MMO DFO have broken PVP.
i'm just gonna say it, part of the reason this game failed is that DNF isn't a big franchise. outside of very niche audience, nobody knows what in the world this is. and plus having characters that have archetype names as opposed to actual character names and personalities doesn't help.
I'll keep saying this: DNF Duel is the current target(punching bag) of the fgc. It is not perfect of course but the HATE for DNF is truly absurd, like it's mob mentality at the extreme! The one thing I will agree on in this video is the lack of communication.....Nexon/Neople, not Arcsys lmao, is the ones leaving us dnf players in the dark. It should not have took this long just to get an announcement of an announcement essentially. Also the current top two characters aren't helping 😭
@Jojo Yes but you most likely have been playing the game since around launch. There is no content for new players to jump in. Most fighting games have a few thousand players every day. DNF struggles to brake 100 every day. Most players just end up matching against the same players over and over and over again. Or they will get matched with someone way beyond their skill level because there are no players to fill in the gaps between skill levels.
Its very sad how this game turned out. I am a big fan of DFO and really glad it had a official fighting games but.....this went wrong is so many ways. welp, all i can do now is hope for some overhall patch or rework or something to keep the people playing. i pray that you get better in the future but i dont got much faith it will.
Despite my love for the Dungeon Fighter series, you do speak the truth. The marketing for this game is almost nonexistent. They recently released a roadmap for the game which is nice, but it is such a long gap for each update. My guess is that they lack the man power to keep up with other fighting game updates like Guilty Gear Strive has. 😐
The problems with DNF Duel started way before lunch, the first open beta was stright up broken even without considering the lack of a training mode you could barely play an entire match without being kicked out of the lobby and the second beta wasn't much better. The marketing was also a complete mess, they didn't have any official english social media account until the game was already out, it's like they had zero faith in this game
3:04 I have a Holy Trinity of Fighting Game Single Player Content modes and they all come from either Blazblue's Side Modes that aren't its Plot or MK9's Challenge Tower. And I'm not interested if most games don't replicate that and only want to be Internet Only Fighting Match Making.
I agree with alot of the points but I'll have to disagree with easy inputs being a bad thing. Similar to Project L's philosophy, having easy inputs makes it so that the player can skip fighting the system and go straight to fighting the opponent. While yes it does take some skill out of the game, it makes it alot easier for newer players to go straight to the mind games of fighting games which in my opinion is more important than struggling with inputs.
I prefer struggling with the inputs though. A big part of the fun is training those hard inputs and manage to not only make them work, but also connect hard input with hard input in your combo.
Some games just aren't meant to be played hardcore over years. DnF Was a lot of fun for some months and has a place in future fighting game Sessions. It's really no disaster.
What they announced (spectre + 4 more characters) with new awakening system (minor change) + new battle system doesn't seem enough the way they announced it. If you want people to have another look on your game, you have to show actual big changes not minor ones. So I think the battle system update will be another minor change like more mobility that's it (showing grappler at that specific moment where everyone knows it's his main problem). But if everyone gets more mobility options, it won't help grappler specifically. I really don't know what this game needs to be successful other than more defensive options but we'll have to see I guess. Still, not dead as of yet technically, since they announced long time support.
When your first two points are blaming Arc System Works (who were hired to make the game by Nexon who should be pushing it) and I'm stuck in combos... just lol.
I am not experienced with a lot of anime fighting games, most of the fighting games are based on fundamentals like Tekken, SF or Samurai Showdown. However, I still think the main problem of the is simply the oppressive capability of being comboed for 40 seconds without any possible defensive action to do (combo breaker, some kind of tech or reversal in mid combo). And it is the same feeling when guarding. You feel helpless. Definitely making this kind of mechanics and metagame is definitely not healthy. People will get bored of the game and having fun is what every game is all about
Your friend's complaint was very much a valid point: no one wants to watch their ass get kicked for up to 30 seconds straight. That shit I understand, it's even worse if that combo almost full health-ed, or half health-ed you. Touch of death is not enjoyable for someone who is not a training dummy, and you never learn from a stomp.
TWO WORDS: MARKETING AND SUPPORT... THESE GUYS SUCKED AT MARKETING... THEY WERE EVEN WORSE AT DEV SUPPORT AND UPDATES.. WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR SPECTRE AFTER THREE MONTHS SINCE A LATE GIANT PATCH...
Dnf duel has a ton of issues. But the only ones that I think are relevant from this video is lack of developer support and lack of on block and on hit defensive options.
My only issue with this is despite its low playerbase all around the game still is being worked on, just 4 days ago a new character was just dropped for it This obviously is not THE BEST but its certainly not the worst. Something like jumpforce or sadly pokken tournament would have to be up for grabs. Ig theres also those 3d arena fighting anime games like the ones for dragon ball, naruto, demon slayer, mha, and jjk
Comparing DNF Duel to SF6 is asinine. SF6 is the 6th mainline entry in a series spanning two decades and isn't even out yet, Capcom is going to push it hard. DNF Duel is a new fighting game IP from a smaller studio than Capcom and 2-3 other fighting games to manage. DNF Duel wasn't given the budget, they didn't believe it would blow up like this. It's better to compare to other anime fighters like Melty or Fighting Layer EX or even MVCI. The only thing this video got right is the lack of dev support. It's clear Strive and GBVS get better treatment, but I dont' like to believe a fighting game needs to be a live service when we have Melee and MvC2 that stand the test of time.
@@bloody4558 it really wasnt the sf6 comparison was good, what people don't get that he was trying to say barebones content in fgs in general, lets look at sf4 for example that game came out in 2008 and it had a great arcade mode with prologues, rival scenes, bonus stages, endings and secret bosses. oh what about virtua fighter's virtua quest, that game came out in 2004 and practically the closet thing to sf6 world tour mode. Now does dnf duel had to do the exact things i just listed? No, however a cookie cutter plain jane arcade mode with boring generic. characters that look like they come from any generic anime will not make the cut.
Arcsys ONLY co developed the game alongside 8ing, the devs behind UMvC3, Fate Unlimited Codes, Bloody Roar and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom etc. They are only devs of the games, not responsible for how the publishing and i.p will be handled
I had fun with the game for a bit. Accepted the game for what it was at release and still had some fun. Ultimately stopped playing because of the lack of new content.
I agree with everything you said as a person who played this game I don’t even play Fighting but I’d give it a try I just hate where I got a hit for a whole health bar with one combo striker and crusader. Made me stop playing this game.
I think the idea of the video is good but suffers because the comparisons are unfair. First you are comparing a product from an unknown IP against a triple A game from one of the best known companies in the world. Second, the marketing problem is not with ArcSys. All decisions come from the owner of the IP. ArcSys only sells it.
I got tired of this game when everyone has one combo that can be started from any stray hit and then getting a super at the end of your health usually meant whoever had lower hp first won.
It's a small company who was launching its 1st fighting game so this was a pretest can't really compare it to a huge fighting game series like sf who has the money to do whatever they want
Just because Capcom is big doesn't that they never flop sfv was terrible on reason it got support was because if sfv died sf died. Also just because dnf duel is small it shouldn't be allowed to be shit. Look at Skullgirls it came from nothing and look how big it got since 2012.
On top the game is still 50.00 bucks with barely any content, the game died almost 3 times in a year. Honestly the game is dead asf online it has over 20 players on steam at best.
They really need to ad a way u can recover or guard burst something they need to take some notes from guilty gear strive cause watching urself get hit for about close to a min is ubsurd and u can't do anything
look, you can say whatever you want in this video. I personally am not going to take the time to watch this right now. but if you like this game, just play it. there are still people playing it, I have found games when I’ve ventured back to it from time to time. they’re releasing the most anticipated character soon, with at least 4 more characters, a new stage, balance patches and new mechanics coming along as well. something about saying this game is already dead and mourning its loss while you still have an opportunity to support it rubs me the wrong way. Not saying you are doing that, because again, I truthfully didn’t take the time to watch this right now. but still. you have the power to contribute to the livelihood of DNF duel. just play.
@@tontimmy45635 I'll be honest with you SF6 will be extremely successful, but it's gameplay hasn't really caught me in the least. THe only thing I'm interested about it is in all of the side content it'll have.
I'd say SFV is worse than DNF Duel: SFV launched barebones, their character stories were a Joke and SFV's Art Direction is the most stupidest shit I've ever seen. DNF Duel has none of those Problems: It's a Smaller Game, it launched with a Story and Arcade Mode (while true that the Lost Warrior is a cheap bitch to fight against) at least the Mode are there and also unlike SFV the Game looks Good. DNF Duel just doesn't pender as hard to ADHD Crowd of the FGC through DLCs and Season Passes.

Well as someone living in Korea and Studying game art... DNF Duel will not die yet, if was to die Should ne had season 2... because nexon in Korea is famous for dump money and give up, the only reason Season 1 was taking so so long is because Nexon didn't expected for DNF duel to sale as much as did and to be on Evo , they didnt request season 1 and when they saw that was getting a lot of attention she request season 1 but a bit later... and about money sorry to tell you nexon had too much money Dnf duel was just a bit expensive DOF test to expanding to other franchise
You can't compare this game to SFV in terms of content. SFV has brand recognition; Everyone in the world knows about Street Fighter, while DFO is mostly known and popular in Asia. Response about the lack of content SFV had were from a lot of casuals who have stood with Street Fighter for years while DNF Duel is brand new fighting game from a niche audience that is appealing abother audience that's even more niche. But I do agree that this game lacks a lot of content. Having a DFO-like game mode in this game for the story mode would have been a great idea as an introduction to get new players into DFO...kinda. I just bought this game recently so I cannot say anything about the mechanics, but I am lloking gorward to give it a try and see if I can stick with it. Mostly because I tend to enjoy a lot of Eighting's fighting games.
What it looks like this game could use is an air dash and air block system, as well as things to fix the undercooked mechanics. What if you could spend meter to push someone away during a blockstring so they don't break your shield. The grey health idea in the video with a set amount sounds great. What if command inputs use less resources and single direction inputs used more resources. Like the Z input could use a small amount, but if you have a hard time with it or you need an immediate input, then you press down and the button. In that case more meter is spent and it takes longer to recharge. Just ideas that could go towards fixing this game.
@@ShadowAce70 Yeah. I'm just going off of what I see in the video. I wouldn't mind checking it out, even if only to better understand where the criticism comes from.
To me, Arc System works have been on a somewhat downward trend as of late when it comes to the content and execution of their games. They just seem to put an excessive focus on dumbing things down and simplifying things until any soul get's sucked out. And then they also tend lack general content compared to their past titles. We saw it with BBTag and then with Strive and as DNF Duel showed, it just seems it is intent on continuing.
I can't... Dude Arc Systems, Didn't develop this game. And if you wanna complain about dumbing down systems, go complain to players. Arc Systems have been going hardcore for years, but scummy casuals kept inventing excuses to not play their games, saying they were too hard to get into. That's why every company out there has been dumbing down their fighting games. When it comes to fighting games, players are almost always at fault for the way games turn out.
Getting hit for 60s that sounds like a skill issue but yea no this game could and should of been better the balance patches felt like they did little to address most of the issues of the game
@@baalfgames5318 I get it. I tend to forget Vanguard and Ranger are there. They seem so basic compared to the other characters.
They spent so much time and effort on animations and nothing else. It's so barebones. This cannot survive in the world of SF6 and MK1
Thank you for the constructive criticism
It’s so weird seeing that someone else knows what nexon is lol.

“Safe on block, full screen, frame 1 invincible move.” I’m no fighting game buff but why the hell is this a thing?!
Because every character has its own bullshit move.the game was way less unbalanced than people think. Players were just too scrubby to test other options and decided the game was doomed, on their own.
The main issue with the game was solely on Nexon's incompetece in marketing and maintaining he game

Still think DNF was more fun than strive lol

It’s hyperbole lol
fanboy?
What would you say is worse?
If he had said "in a modern fighting game" sure. Compared to games of like 12 to 30 years ago, it's just another game. Hokuto No Ken, Sengoku Basara X and Fate Unlimited Codes were all ultra volatile anime games that were either more grounded than other anime games or in the case of Fate basically completely grounded.
I’m trying to figure out what else out there is worse than this? Care to explain?
ASW only lend their graphics engine mainly. Eighting did all the balancing and stuff on the gameplay front. People get it mixed up all the time. Overall I agree with the vid cause alot of this I felt this way and im pretty open to fgs but this game was a very love it or hate it type of game and most people these days are not down for this type of stuff especially with its conflicting gameplay choices.
alot of the decisions for support is also on Neopole/Nexon as well
Here's the thing about DNF Duel.
That's quite the opinion
@@craigsmith6039 Exactly 🙏
I think it's more important to know that Arcsystemworks support it and did the style but everything is up to nexon.
But the modern gaming landscape requires everything to be a massive banger because of every game demanding all your time
8ing developed that game and several other anime licensed fighting games in the mid 2000s
It doesn't matter how big the original franchise is if the spin-off fails to capture that attention.

theres alot of misinformation in this video.

I doubt if Arksys promoted DNF Duel the same way Capcom did Streetfighter 6 it would've made any difference whatsoever.

Whenever I see "Nexon" in a game's publisher or developer, I run as far away as I can. Having played their games when I was younger, I start to realize that Nexon is one of the greediest sons of losers ever. Heck, even the MMO DFO have broken PVP.
This is a Sf6 ad disguised as an essay
i'm just gonna say it, part of the reason this game failed is that DNF isn't a big franchise. outside of very niche audience, nobody knows what in the world this is. and plus having characters that have archetype names as opposed to actual character names and personalities doesn't help.
That's more on the people instead of the game though.
Sometimes I forget that SFVI isn't out yet with the amount of content I see
probably our last chance at a game where the better player just wins without a bunch of RPS in between
The recent news about 2024 support for the game and like 4 new characters confirmed as well as new system mechanics has me hype
Not until 2024 though 🤔
@@Urien_n dnf duel will be forgotten by the time that happens if at all.
@@Urien_n Isn't spectre coming out this year with the new mechanics of clear cube gold cube and all that?
The game came out in 2022 kinda sad
I'll keep saying this: DNF Duel is the current target(punching bag) of the fgc. It is not perfect of course but the HATE for DNF is truly absurd, like it's mob mentality at the extreme!
The one thing I will agree on in this video is the lack of communication.....Nexon/Neople, not Arcsys lmao, is the ones leaving us dnf players in the dark. It should not have took this long just to get an announcement of an announcement essentially. Also the current top two characters aren't helping 😭
Also the game isn't even dead
People are overreacting
@@jojo95DK Not in Korea but in the West yeah it's dead.
@greenwolf2k594 I'm currently in the us and found people in the ranked matchmaking in seconds, the game is doing fine
@@GreenWolf2k facts
I love playing Abyss Mode in Blazblue.
This, you still need fundamentals to win against experience players. No amount of “easy inputs” will negate that
I prefer struggling with the inputs though.
It took over a year just to reveal a 30 sec trailer. This game is in the morgue.
@@gimmeyourrights8292 Taking into account SF6 and tekken 8 upcoming releases, I think too that this game is done for tbh.
On the bright side it had a few cool tunes in the soundtrack. Those will stick with me at least.
When your first two points are blaming Arc System Works (who were hired to make the game by Nexon who should be pushing it) and I'm stuck in combos... just lol.
Good thing it’s not a Ded game
I still think DNF is really fun, but the devs pretty much abandoned it. The fact that we are waiting A YEAR for a new character is insane.
One of the reasons I stopped playing this game was hitman and troubleshooter taking advantage by having full screen attacks
DBZ fighter, guilty gear, BlazBlue does this too, so what's the point
TWO WORDS: MARKETING AND SUPPORT... THESE GUYS SUCKED AT MARKETING... THEY WERE EVEN WORSE AT DEV SUPPORT AND UPDATES.. WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR SPECTRE AFTER THREE MONTHS SINCE A LATE GIANT PATCH...
I absolutely love this game, but it's painful how slow post-launch support is.
Dnf duel has a ton of issues. But the only ones that I think are relevant from this video is lack of developer support and lack of on block and on hit defensive options.
Pretty much, people like inventing reasons to hate on the game.
My only issue with this is despite its low playerbase all around the game still is being worked on, just 4 days ago a new character was just dropped for it
This obviously is not THE BEST but its certainly not the worst.
It's because people like doing these unfair comparisons that many games fail
@@bloody4558 it really wasnt the sf6 comparison was good, what people don't get that he was trying to say barebones content in fgs in general, lets look at sf4 for example that game came out in 2008 and it had a great arcade mode with prologues, rival scenes, bonus stages, endings and secret bosses. oh what about virtua fighter's virtua quest, that game came out in 2004 and practically the closet thing to sf6 world tour mode.
Now does dnf duel had to do the exact things i just listed? No, however a cookie cutter plain jane arcade mode with boring generic. characters that look like they come from any generic anime will not make the cut.
part of the reason DNF duel's gameplay is like that is due to DFO's PVP being like that. I'm not kidding lmao
The skullgirls music was a nice addition lol
Street fighter is a bad example as, lets be real, no one would have played that game past month 1 if its title wasn’t street fighter
Tbf the game DOES have an alpha counter mechanic……. Which basically means absolutely nothing when it cost your entire bar………
The price tag for me was the worst issue with this game, even guilty gear strive is cheaper than this!
Worse mechanics? I think it would be better to say lack of mechanics. The games update will include added mechanics. Let's hope they get it right
They really need to ad a way u can recover or guard burst something they need to take some notes from guilty gear strive cause watching urself get hit for about close to a min is ubsurd and u can't do anything
They shoulda released DFO for consoles
Love you videos, u deserve so much more love ❤️
look, you can say whatever you want in this video. Not saying you are doing that, because again, I truthfully didn’t take the time to watch this right now. but still. you have the power to contribute to the livelihood of DNF duel. just play.
yeah... and they proved you wrong. new content comming
But will anyone care probably not since sf6 is around the corner and tekken 8 is showing promise despite it still not having a release date.
@@tontimmy45635 I'll be honest with you SF6 will be extremely successful, but it's gameplay hasn't really caught me in the least. THe only thing I'm interested about it is in all of the side content it'll have.
I saw a bunch of clips where people played against Launcher and i knew that the game is far too slow and its not fun playing against her
At this point they might as well release a new version of the game
I'd say SFV is worse than DNF Duel: SFV launched barebones, their character stories were a Joke and SFV's Art Direction is the most stupidest shit I've ever seen. DNF Duel has none of those Problems: It's a Smaller Game, it launched with a Story and Arcade Mode (while true that the Lost Warrior is a cheap bitch to fight against) at least the Mode are there and also unlike SFV the Game looks Good. DNF Duel just doesn't pender as hard to ADHD Crowd of the FGC through DLCs and Season Passes.
Bro are you really comparing SFV to DNF, really??? DNF is trash compared to SFV and SFV is not even the best SF game yet DNF is trash compared to it.DNF is so low execution scrub friendly that I have no desire to play again
@@lifeonleo1074 You really wanna tell me that the Bullshit Art Direction of Shit Fucker Five is better than DNF Duel's? DNF ain't a masterpiece but the overall package ain't going as low is SFV.
People thought this was going to kill KOFXV
Kof15 killed itself
I'm just sitting here wondering how Grand Blue Fantasy managed to do better, being a Gacha game that was very behind in English content.
The input part is how it actually work its there.
@@greatesthope7338 ah. Ok

Yeah.
@@bloody4558 Arc Sys did develop DNF Duel, just they weren't alone this time as they were in collaboration with 8ing/Raizing.
sad but true
Getting hit for 60s that sounds like a skill issue but yea no this game could and should of been better the balance patches felt like they did little to address most of the issues of the game
I regret spending money on this game, I never enjoyed it for a second.
