Canon 5D Classic is the best DSLR ever made for real still photographers. This is NOT a camera for tech seekers. I would advise the latter group to stay away from this video.
Now, still photographers please note, as you have to buy this DSLR used; you will have to adjust with a few whims of this camera that you may come across. I'm using it for last three years and encounter issues that are not difficult to resolve for thinking photographers.
Enjoy shooting with this legend, you're gonna love it.

Don’t you just love the sound of the 5D shutter?
I switched from Canon full frame to M43 about a year and a half ago. But I had this classic 5D with a broken rear screen that no one was interested in. I also still have a Canon 40 mm f2.8 lens that I couldn’t sell. The broken screen displays menus and the histogram, but the images are 4 bit colour.
A couple of weeks ago I thought, I don’t need to image Chimp, I can use the histogram to confirm my captures. I dusted off the camera and took some test shots. The rest of the camera functioned as it should.
I used this camera for some street photography and determined that I really love the images that I captured. Like you I came from a focus and recompose era, so that’s not foreign to me. In fact I struggled at first to embrace all of the multi focus points in modern cameras. I think in a lot of situations I can focus and recompose faster over moving a focus point into position.
The 5D/40mm pancake setup is a great street combo. I love using it because it simplifies decision making and I love the images that I’m getting.
I was recently given a Lumix GF1 with the 20mm f1.7 lens. I’m thinking about doing a shoot out between these two setups.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and images.

Yes 100% the shutter sound is glorious. So many people have good things to say about the 40mm f2.8 yet I still lean towards the 50. Any idea how it compares? I mainly bought the 5d to use with some of my vintage lenses like the Helios 44m which look great, but the amount of praise the 40mm gets does have me curious.
      Thanks for watching 🖖

@@DavidFlowerOfficial The 40 is of course slower so that’s a factor. I’m fine with the speed though. It’s slightly sharper than the 50 and the slightly wider field of view can be useful. I love that it’s a pancake lens which brings a more compact appearance to the 5D and slides into a smaller space in the bag.

Just picked up a 5d mark II and a 50mm 1.8 stm for 177 quid. Camera in good to very good condition, I’m thrilled to start shooting!
The classic has this creamy colors and the mark II had more of earthy tones and looks as good as the classic but slightly different 👍🏻

I bought one in 2023 as well. The colours and look are far, far more attractive than every Nikon I've ever used. But Ken Rockwell has it right: the 5D mk I is best for subjects that don't move.

Thank you for the great video ... I picked up the 5D classic a few months ago. After watching it for a while in a local Cash Converter store, the price dropped to clear ... I pulled the trigger and swallowed my conscience. Packaged with 2 x batteries, bag, strap and 24-105 f4 lens. Generally, very clean but no idea of actual shutter count. Swapped the lens out to match with another camera and slapped on the plastic 50mm f1.8 which has become pretty much a permanent fixture. So simple to use and the images I have so far are clean and sharp with minimal correction in Lightroom, gives me exactly what I look for out of this camera. Love it!!! ... So far, all I've done to the camera is replace the auxiliary rubbers which have become brittle and starting to break apart. Functionality wise, it is near perfect except for the rear buttons on the left-hand side being sticky on first press after sitting for any length of time. Wondering if anyone else has had this and if a puff of graphite powder would help?

The Canon 5D and 5D Mark II were Canon's prime for digital cameras IMO. Thats when their color science was top notch. The 5D is one of the few digital cameras with a filmic look. Too bad they have gone downhill with colors with the R system. I just picked up a 5D again, used one back in the day a ton. Great camera.

So, I don't see why you can't get awesome shots with them today. Plus, they are quite cheap. I have two "fool frames" I am interested in, the 5D MkII and the Nikon D700 and that is primarily for their sensors, but then again I have what I need and then some in M43. If you are keen on a nice DSLR, which is compact and light, check out the Oly E-400 4/3, with its rather nice Kodak CCD sensor, a model that was only markedet in Europe and for a very brief time being replaced by the E-410 overall with a Panasonic Live MOS sensor.

Nice video pal. I always assumed that a DSLR would never be a good fit for me… not sure why. So used to using mirrorless I guess. I’ve been seeing a lot of UA-camrs like yourself extolling the virtues of this camera, so took a plunge on one for just over 100 quid. The best 100 quid I’ve ever spent! Sure it’s bigger than what I’m used too, but it’s been a revelation! The colours, the simplicity of use, the build quality, all excellent. Interesting that you mention the Sony A7S, as I’ve always felt that sensor was superb, and the 5DC is very similar. Like my Leica M9, it’s as close to shooting film as you can get, but with added digital convenience. Just shot a wedding with it, and a few gigs, and quality is superb.

It really is a gem of a camera and I’m very tempted to once again add an A7s to the collection. I learned on Nikon dslrs and the major difference I saw when switching to mirrorless was the complexity of the cameras which took away the joy I got from my much simpler D800. I absolutely appreciate the functionality that mirrorless offers, but for a pure photography experience I think cameras like the 5D are way better. Thanks for watching 🖖

I bought this hype camera. To be honest, it is way too yellow. But some people love over yellowed pictures I guess. So is it "filmic"? Well, it's got that filmic grain at higher ISO, so to a degree. The other characteristic of it is it's saturated, or "creamy". So it's definitely got a style. But, ultimately, my Nikon CCD s are a lot more filmic, and produce more neutral White Balanced pictures that I prefer. Now, they say Canon is good for skin tones, and that is true. For other stuff, I like my Nikon D80 a lot more.

Be careful with that eBay camera strap. The working end of it has a habit of wanting to slip through the fixings. I tossed mine in the bin and went back to propriety straps.

It’s an Amazon camera strap and I’ve been using it for well over a year with no issues and it’s the same connection I use for my wrist strap that I’ve been using for even longer. Maybe you just got a bad one but this has been spot on🖖

my biggest complaint is the weight

Yeah it’s a heavy boy, but I used a Nikon d800 for years so I don’t find it that bad. The lumix gh5 that I use for video is only about 15% lighter and that’s m4/3 so I guess I’m just used to using fairly heavy cameras🖖

The camera takes nice pictures but the town is boring and ugly.
