I keep saying this was written as a young adult book that she went back and added some cuss words and a little spice. Having said that, I love this series. They get better as she expands as an author. Your reviews are so on point!
I kept describing this book as beauty and the beast I’m so happy other people saw the parallels!!! As someone who didn’t read it for the 🌶️, I was grateful it was kept to a minimum!! I read at work too much for all that 😅
My problem with the plot so far is that the girl's main problem in the beginning is that she has a bad home life. It seems like instead of giving her a found family, like having some fairies become the parents she never had, the author decides that she just needs a boyfriend because romantasy is more popular than a good found family story.
I found your post because I'm on chapter 20 and the main character is already starting to get on my nerves. I wanted a spoiler free review that may provide incite & you did, so thank you!
I am currently chewing through the beginning of this book. It's taken me months tbh. Knowing that this and the whole series, does, in fact, get better, is heartening. I picked it up at Costco not expecting much, but many of my friends have raved about the series. Your review is spot on for where I'm at currently in the book.... guess I just need to keep slogging to get to the "good stuff".
@irishkid13 I am working on book three right now, and I'm not exactly bored, but it's not moving along at the clip book two did. But I'm not quite halfway through.
@@StevensBookReviews I enjoyed book two very much. About halfway, a bit less in book 3. It's a lot of scene setting and building characters, which is cool. We'll see where it goes.
Hey, I really liked your review. I just found your channel and I see that it's very new. So you call it "Steven's Book Reviews" but so far you have only reviewed romantacy books. What is your favourite genres? Will you be reviewing books from other genres? You talk about originallity which I think it's a big issue with books. What is the most original book you've read recently? If you haven't read it, I recommend The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin.
I’m sure I’ll do other genres as well. I’ve been reading the books my social media followers are asking for. Neil Gaiman is my favorite. I find him to be the most original as well.
I'm currently reading it and I agree 100% with what you've said (though I'm confused...is your rating out of 5 or 10? ). I'm 2/3rds in and I find it completely overhyped for now. I will give the second book a go but I'm definitely not overly invested in the characters and plot.
Book 2 is pretty much the highlight of the series. I believe book 1 was written to lure in fans of a lot of classic tropes and then book 2 flips the script. I don’t think many people have fond feelings over these books because of the first. Oddly it’s the middle child that is the most popular. I remember being dragged through the first one by a friend because I needed context for the next. I would say objectively it’s miles better but it’s still junk food overall, if that makes sense.
My biggest issue is poorly and awkwardly written smut. I wonder if the smut in this series is as terrible as the smut she wrote in in her Throne of Glass series cause that scene with her and Rowan was just both poorly written and just gave me secondhand embarrassment for the characters. It felt like I was reading two teenagers relaying their first time rather than two people who had slept with others before
Great reference to the Tim MacGraw song. I haven't read it yet. I am not sure yet but I am thinking about it. Thanks for giving a male's perspective on it. I like hearing it.
Ive read 3 chapters so far and I really enjoyed most of it from the world building I thought was quite good, I like the details being given. But right at the end of chapter 3 the writing seems to take an aburdly large drop in quality. The first time the main character seems to have a love interest I suppose. But the build of this new gent is terrible, the description of him and the events leading to the deed was so incredibly lacking. It boiled down to they never spoke, they walked together once and she commented on the colour of his chicken eggs and that was that let the hank panky commence... Compared to the detail given to all the characters before and not even just the characters, the details of almost everything were miles ahead of this moment. It almost felt like somebody else took over for the last 2 pages of chapter 3! Im going to contiue because Ive enjoyed everything bar that so far and I may just have to skip any "romance" bits if they are going to be of such low quality writing.
I was actually shocked by the violence in ACOTAR. It’s the first “fantasy/romantasy” that I’ve read. I just finished ACOMAF two days ago and yep, it’s getting REAL GOOD. I’m pumped now for ACOWAR.
Heyyyy bestie, I would make some SLIGHT changes to your channel, such as the obvs adding a banner and having more CAPTIVATING thumbnailzzuh (like having exaggerated facial expressionzz) . The title of this VID is good but you could add a bigger hook like "A smut book review from the pov of a dude" Your pfp and intro are top notch so I wish you the best girliepop! 030
I have such mixed feelings about your comment. I do get your point as this is a click bait society we live in. But what I enjoyed in this video is how unbiased and honest Steven is and I think your tips would ruin that.

You were pretty much spot on with this review! The last 100 pages had me on the edge of my seat though!

I’ll need a spoiler free review of all the other books pls🙏🏻 this was great
I agree! Stay tuned

I can't get over the fact that a guy who looks exactly like the male main character is reviewing this book 😂👌 Like your thoughts 👍
You’re too kind 🤣
That's such a good point :)

Book 2 is the pinnacle of the series in my opinion. But the series is enjoyable as a whole.
Idk, I hit a wall at book three because I couldn't stand the main character anymore.

are you going to do spoiler free for the other books too? i like the 5 part breakdown!
Absolutely!
life is short. many books to read. Appreciate the review. I can safely put this away and look for another book to quench my thirst.
Wait why do you look like Tamlin 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🤷♂️ 😂
Tamlin with blue eyes
This book was basically Twilight for Zoomers, but with fairies.
Not a romance, but my I suggest Mr. Fix It and Miss Sue? It is also a follow center story.

Hoping my mom likes this book, I just bought it blindly hoping it was good cos so many people read it..
Died laughing

Yeah, book 2 is my favorite in the series.
Thanks for the review! So helpful
Glad it was helpful!
Love your content and reviews ❤️👏🤣 spot on. So uh..when you starting TOG? 😘
That’s my next read, so probably next week!

please read throne of glass! i wanna hear your review lol. i've read it thrice myself
Currently reading it!
I am reading the second book, a court of mist and fury and I already hate Feyre... so she gets worst? 😅
Well… I can’t say she gets better 🤣

Hello, do you accept requests for book reviews? Just curious.
I do! I usually go with the general consensus from my social media comments.
are you using a filter because sir your skin is perfect.
It’s not a filter, but I’m using a ring light which makes my skin look better than it actually is 🤣
