Nice review. Looks great. It really appeals to me, mainly because of that i4 which is oddly a rarity now. Imagine if the new Hornet looked like this for 7k. Honda wouldn't be able to make enough of them.
Having owned an original 600 Hornet for nearly 20 years, in my humble opinion this bike the CB650R is the natural successor to the original Hornet. Apart from looking like the Hornet, this bike sounds like it and performs like it too. Personally, I find the 750 an afront to the good Hornet name......
Yep, exactly why I bought the CB650R in 2019. I've owned every generation Hornet 600 over the years. Still, I have to admit the engine is hilariously fun on this.
Wow i was just this minute checking out this bike and here you are with the upload. lol Great minds think alike! The only thing I wished to see updated would have been a tft. Ride safe and enjoy mate😎🍻
Great review Dan, you can tell within the first minute how much you love this bike. I can just tell you were smiling the whole time. Theres a lot to love about this bike. If I had a garage then I think I'd have it as a second bike. For now I'll keep my triumph bobber 😊
Riding one with my riding school ready for my Mod 2 - wow rather twitchy on throttle and great acceleration! quite light as well and I can flat foot it - important for me after 2 strokes! Loved it!
I do miss an inline 4. I have an MT07 now and really love it for some spirited riding but I don't care for the 2 cyl. sound. These bikes are meant for a little bit of a tickle every once in a while for me. The MT07 does that job very well but there seems to be something missing. I have entertained getting a ZX6R but that may be a little bit to much of a tickle for a 69 year old man would want. I know the throttle is the control. i've been riding long enough to have owned Z1 when they first came out. I know how to control a throttle. I owned a Triumph Street Triple in 09 and wouldn't put it up until I reached triple digits on it. Not great for a long ride but it sure tickled me. I got rid of it because oil seepage around the valve covers. The KZ900RS is just too heavy and tall for me. I love the look though. This Honda seems to check the boxes that I have.
Last 2 years ago (2021) already released for CB1000R Black Edition and you have reviewed for that bike👍... and now comes to its "brother" (CB650R) for the black edition... nice ride bro.🔥😎
Almost bought one of these recently. The only reason I didn't is because there is no deals on them and Kawasaki was offering great deals on the Z900 :) I still may want the CB650R more, money aside. It just ticks all the boxes, minus maybe having no adjustment in the forks
In the exact same boat. Got run over on my cb300r and was fortunate enough to have witnesses that ensured a nice payout. I’ve been looking at both the cb650 and the xsr700 but the dealer has a new ‘23 z900 for $8000 US and I feel like I can’t pass up a deal like that. How has yours treated you?
@West Great so far. Still in the break-in period. Haven't even dialed in the sag yet. It's on the to-do list. Definitely need a flash tune or power commander to smooth out the herky-jerky throttle though
It's a nice bike. When you got going I thought that would look nice with the gold coloured engine cases, then you showed the older version to prove I was right🤗

Lovely bike gloss black tank like 1000 would have looked better, we don't get black edition here in the states anyway. That 4 cylinder! No hornet here yet either. Thanks for the update Dan
I've never understood your comments regarding the seat on this bike. I've done 6000 miles on mine and I think the seat is very comfortable. It warms up and feels just right to me. And apparently I've got no arse, so I'm told.
Pretty bike! I just bought its little brother, the 2023 CB300R and I love it for casual exploration on rural back roads--peppy little thumper. I looked at the 650, but I don't think I could ride it without getting naughty, hehe. Yeah, small-block fours are wonderful engines. A couple of lifetimes ago, I owned a Kawasaki GPz550 that was otherworldly smooth. Thanks for a great look at the Honda@
I had a CBR650R. Regretted selling it, but it was to economise so didn’t have much choice. My missus and I do miss the cheeky and ironic “Marilyn Monroe” looks to camera when on the bike!! Always had us in stitches.
Good stuff. I too love the engine and sound, and would love to hear another exhaust on it. You might be on to something there, with the inline 4 making way for the parallels.
The CB650R is the best looking middleweight bike in the market. But i like her most with the bronce wheels and golden fork. I own a 2016 MT-07 (with 2018 Headlight), and if in 2016 the CB would be availible, she would have been a true compeditor to the MT.
Loved this video I’ve just bagged myself a 2019 version like you had is there anymore videos from where you went to Germany as I can only find the one 😢
I currently drive a Honda PCX 125cc but just ordered a CB650R grey metallic yesterday (it will be my first big bike and should be here in about 3 months) and while I agree that the Black Edition is beautiful, I prefer having bronze engine cover, wheels and front fork. Looking forward to the comparison video between the CB650R and the CB750 Hornet! Thanks for the amazing video Dan 🖖
Thanks for this great review! Deciding between this and a Z900 for in-London commenting and weekend getaways into the country side. Any comments on those choices?
I love my MY21 in red. It was bought after previously owning the CB125R and watching, among others, your personal review and ownership videos. Mine came with Dunlop's fitted. Personally I think the all black edition is drab. Much nicer with the bronze looking engine and wheels and gold fork uppers. PS it is a lovely bike to ride slow or fast. I agree that riding very long distances can become tiring and you get achy butt when wearing jeans in summer months.
Hi there. Went for a test ride yesterday. And love the bike since day one. But one thing that stress me out is the fact that my wrist were hurting after 20min. Probably putting too much pressure on them. Let me know what you think
In today's times when almost all motorcycle manufacturers have switched to two cylinders in parallel, because it's cheaper to manufacture, it's a delight to see an "inline four"! They made it 650cc because of pollution regulations! If only it stayed of 600 was probably up to 80hp.!Typical Honda refinement and reliability!I have a CBR600F2,it has about 80,000 km on it and still runs flawlessly without any major repairs!
Thinking of trading in my Ducati scrambler for one of these. The vibrations on the duke is slowly eroding the joy of riding and after an hour it’s getting to be a right pain. I’m hoping that going back to a 4 cylinder may help
The coolest edition I dont have the money or the financial stability for. Update: I managed to grind enough to get a Matte black 2021 CB650R. In retrospect I like the color variation more with the bronze pieces then this all black edition. Cheers!
man if they did one of these for the cbr I'd be so happy. But sadly the black one has blue accents (on the tank being the worst part of it) and it's half gloss half matte which is dumb
Do you think the gearing is too long for road use? I mean, if you want to thrash it, you will be going illegal speeds in 1st gear let alone 2nd, 3rd, 4th. I'd like to be able to use the gears more. Do you think shorter gears would be better? I wish they added RBW throttle with Up & Down QS for 2024 but looks like we are still stuck with up QS only. Not the end of the world.
@@Englishbikerdan I just wonder if they put longer gearing on for emissions testing. I have heard of other bikes like ducatis that have longer gearing from the factory but you are meant to go up a tooth on the rear to get it the way that the engineers intended it to be. I reckon slightly shorter gearing on the CB650R could wake it up a bit and allow you to use 1st, 2nd, 3rd without going warp speed lol. I haven’t ridden one though so I can’t say. Hopefully I will have a brand new 2022 model within a week!!
My son made me a foot peg lowering kit with some polished stainless steel brackets that lowered the pegs by about 15mm, doesn't sound like much of a difference but the comfort level compared to the factory set up was huge for me, I'm 61 years old and can ride all day without knee pain, still need to do something about the seat though as after a couple of hours it gets pretty uncomfortable.
Getting one of these for my 1st bike with the quick shifter. Just going to get a tail tidy and an exhaust. Were your exhaust full systems or just slip ones? And did you need to remap/flash after or good to go?
Gr8 video and a gr8 bike, I had a 2019 matt Black CBR650R - however I had the opportunity to trade it in for an electric bike and wanted to experience a different type of riding. I would consider going back to petrol bikes so as not to lose the skill of riding a manual bike, but if the media is to be believed, petrol motorcycles like the CB650 black may not be available new from 2030 :(
Black edition does not look as nice as the regular matte... in my opinion of course; granted I waited two years to get mine in the color I wanted. The gold and black looks amazing.
Hi mate. Great video as always mate. I have a CB650R which I owned now for a year but I’ve put a deposit down on the 23 Street triple RS. How would you compare the two mate? Thanks

On my 650f the throttle is super snatchy and jumpy at low rpm like cruising round town but when you wind on the throttle it does annoy me sometimes having to wait for that rush of power and torque 🤣😊
Hi Dan, quick question about the insta360 you use, do you both with the vibration damper or just mount straight on the bars? Got one arriving tomorrow. Love the videos by the way!
Nice to see they've added the black edition to the 650R although sadly i dont think it works as well as it does on the CB1000R that works so well in the BE but i dont feel the same about it on the 650R
Is the 2023 version reduced the engine power?. In my country honda said that they reduce engine power from 72kW to 63 kW to ensure the gas emission standard
I’ve got the 2020 model. I can’t see how Honda can justify the extra money for the black version. The CB1000 black edition comes with a few accessories, a quick shifter and a black exhaust. This model doesn’t? This just comes with a black engine cover and front forks, I prefer the red and gold!

love this bike since I got it in 2021. one reason being your awesome reviews. keep up the good work!
Nice review. Looks great. It really appeals to me, mainly because of that i4 which is oddly a rarity now. The styling is also great & makes me wonder how can Honda''s styling department can come up with this & then a "new" bike that looks like a dated generic old CB something like the Hornet? Imagine if the new Hornet looked like this for 7k. Honda wouldn't be able to make enough of them.
It remains to be seen what the new Hornet will go for here in the States.
Yeh, I'm never getting rid of mine, I f-cking LOVE it!
Great Review and I have a CBR 650r 2019 and I Love it I definitely want to get a exhaust and open her up so she can really sing…
Love the vid. I was a hairs width from pre ordering one of these as my first big bike. It looks awesome.
They ought to have called this the Hornet instead of the twin CB750. It just doesn’t make sense to me.
I agree, I had. 2010 600 Hornet same looking exhausts, a belter of a bike. Think it even had a smidge more power than the 650s.
Wow i was just this minute checking out this bike and here you are with the upload. lol Great minds think alike! The only thing I wished to see updated would have been a tft. Ride safe and enjoy mate😎🍻
Just got me one of these tho just the regular version. Absolute blast of a bike to drive
Nice one Dan - great to see your having a good time on this fantastic machine. Know what you mean about the vibes.
It's a dream bike of mine!! Esp in the colour Dan had!!
Everything about this bike is definitely great! No doubt about that. Except it's price in the Indian market, which is downright ridiculous 😢
Ive started doing lessons for my full licence, and this is a potential candidate for a first bike
Good luck with the lessons and test!
oiu, you got a liocense for that ?!@@Englishbikerdan
Fully grown man getting giddy like that, you know it’s fun.
Last 2 years ago (2021) already released for CB1000R Black Edition and you have reviewed for that bike👍... and now comes to its "brother" (CB650R) for the black edition... nice ride bro.🔥😎
I have a black edition one they are really good bike. I love it
Almost bought one of these recently.
Definitely need a flash tune or power commander to smooth out the herky-jerky throttle though
still love my 2018 cb650f, runs and looks like new, never missed a beat. was thinking about the new hornet but wouldn't give up the 4...dave
Another great video as ever Dan. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the hornet in comparison!
@1:13 "Woohoohoo... oh how I've missed you!" Get a room! 😂😂🤣🤣 Insightful review as always Dan!
It's a nice bike. When you got going I thought that would look nice with the gold coloured engine cases, then you showed the older version to prove I was right🤗
The non-black edition still has the gold forks and engine covers.
My dream bike, still saving for it hopefully I will get it in the next two years 😂
6:30 These chrome-like badges are also on my little one cylinder CB125F and despite it being not the most eye catching motorcycle in the world, you notice chrome Honda badges right away.
People experience different things. It was not a comfortable seat for me at all.
Good to see this review and really looking forward to your comparison with the new Hornet - thanks
Nice, enjoy your 300. 👌
I had a CBR650R. Regretted selling it, but it was to economise so didn’t have much choice. My missus and I do miss the cheeky and ironic “Marilyn Monroe” looks to camera when on the bike!! Always had us in stitches.
Love that blue and bronze contrast more
Yeah def the best colour.
Enjoy your beautiful bike!
@@steveparish9210 thank you my friend 👍
Enjoy!!
@@agustinrueda3241 thank you my friend 👍
So? How is it compared to your PCX?
Im in the exact same situation (PCX, switching to big bike), but cant decide which one yet 😂👍
Thanks for this great review! Deciding between this and a Z900 for in-London commenting and weekend getaways into the country side. Any comments on those choices?
Definitely the best 650 mid range motorbike and better than most 750s
So much nicer than the new Hornet to look at.... although I'm not a fan of matt paint.
i wish they could make one that looks even more retro, like the older CBs.
They do
Love this Black Bike… 🥲

I’m a sucker for a blackout edition. 👍🤪🇨🇦
Wish they had the screen buttons on the handle bar
I wonder if Honda will keep this model now that the new Hornet 750 is out.
Forks wouldn’t change how nimble it feels. Did they change any geometries or tires?
Do you think the gearing is too long for road use? I mean, if you want to thrash it, you will be going illegal speeds in 1st gear let alone 2nd, 3rd, 4th. I'd like to be able to use the gears more. Do you think shorter gears would be better? I wish they added RBW throttle with Up & Down QS for 2024 but looks like we are still stuck with up QS only. Not the end of the world.
I don't think the gearing is too long. It makes it fun when ragging it. :D
Please do a comparison of lightweight motorcycles 🎉
Cool ride and bike.
Differences between this and the “old” model 2019-2020?
Gr8 video and a gr8 bike, I had a 2019 matt Black CBR650R - however I had the opportunity to trade it in for an electric bike and wanted to experience a different type of riding. I would consider going back to petrol bikes so as not to lose the skill of riding a manual bike, but if the media is to be believed, petrol motorcycles like the CB650 black may not be available new from 2030 :(
Black edition does not look as nice as the regular matte... in my opinion of course; granted I waited two years to get mine in the color I wanted. The gold and black looks amazing.
Hi which one u referred for daily used and long touring & comfortable handling bar .CBR650R OR CB650R 👍
CB for comfort and ease of use. CBR for faster roads.
@Englishbikerdan thank u luv watching ur videos CB gone be my first bike 🏍
Why is the lcd screen layout so bad, even the CB125 has a better RPM layout ..
Hi mate. Great video as always mate.
I have a CB650R which I owned now for a year but I’ve put a deposit down on the 23 Street triple RS. How would you compare the two mate? Thanks
Very different beasts. But then the ST-RS is almost £4k more.
Hello will this exact color (with the black pedals as well like yours) be available for the CB650R 2024 edition? I would want to buy this one as my first bike, and it would be nice to get the updated electronics 2024 version but getting also this exact black version of the bike
On my 650f the throttle is super snatchy and jumpy at low rpm like cruising round town but when you wind on the throttle it does annoy me sometimes having to wait for that rush of power and torque 🤣😊
Try gripping with your fingertips and feathering the throttle at low speed. Helped me a lot
Hi Dan, quick question about the insta360 you use, do you both with the vibration damper or just mount straight on the bars? Got one arriving tomorrow. Love the videos by the way!
Straight on the bars. Although now my X2 camera stops recording randomly so seems it's broken.
Nice to see they've added the black edition to the 650R although sadly i dont think it works as well as it does on the CB1000R that works so well in the BE but i dont feel the same about it on the 650R
Nice cbr's screen is like the nintendo 90's ultra modern detail
I got red one like a month ago and i love it
Nice bro!
I just picked mine up yesterday do you by chance have one rear turn signal brighter then the other?
@Bluejackets70 I'm pretty sure my turn signals are working just fine
I can't decide whether I love or hate the look of this bike.
If the exhaust pipe also painted with black matte, maybe it looks more style 🔥😎
Personally I prefer the CB650R in Candy Red with the copper coloured engine covers.
The good news is, you can buy the red/gold and it's cheaper! :)
Nice to see Blackbushe.
A twin exhaust or an undertail exhaust would make it much cooler
Hey brother does the exhaust noise get to your right ear...is it annoying during reving.? I had a fz6r from Yamaha which I just adored..had to get rid of it due to placement of underslung exhaust.
You really had fun on this one and I do prefer this to the Hornet, but why did you get rid of yours?
I needed a more comfortable bike for my needs, which is mainly motoryway miles.
@@Englishbikerdan oh, okay, that's sad, especially since I thought that all upright naked bikes were the same but thanks for the reply though am sorry I have to ask again ( forgive me ) what did you replace it with? And it looks like your weather is getting better or is it just me? Thanks.
It has slightly more power than the new hornet but it's heavier, so probably about the same acceleration.
There's a guy with like a year older cb650r with half tank. I think he did 0-100km/h in 3,2 seconds. It's on UA-cam.
I’m torn between this Honda and the upcoming Suzuki GSX-8S. I hope you get to review the latter once it hits the dealers.
I'm riding the new 8S at the launch next week.
@@Englishbikerdan I can’t wait to hear what you think about it. A bit jealous you get to ride it so soon but hey I’m not the English Biker Dan, hope you have a great time and looking forward to any feedback/review. Thanks for the reply too 👌
Is there any different with the engine of the 2023 version compare to 2022 version? On the website of honda, 2023 has only around 83hp but at 10k rpm, and I cant find any information about this change with their engine. If I remember correctly, 2022 version has around 94hp at 11k rpm.
Thanks for making this video Dan. I've been waiting for a decent review of the new black edition. Its an awesome looking bike but now i have a problem... i don't know whether to get this new black edition or the matt black version of the Trident... love the look of both bikes... which would you go for??
Definitely Honda. Gets older better
So would you still prefer your sv650 over it ?
There is an on/off sensation at 4.000 RPM. Thank you EURO 5.
