As the kind of guy that has no interest in poking around with his bike in the garage, I approve of the Honda perfection. I buy my bikes to ride, not to spend every other day tearing it apart and mucking about with it.
Well said.
Nailed it. I bought a CBR and the fact it will, in typical Honda fashion, work when you want it to, and work very well, is just what you want.
I've had bikes in the past with character which just means lots of wasted hours fixing them.
We wouldn't put up with washing machines like that, so why bikes?

New 2020 cb650r owner. This review is 1000% accurate. They didn't even talk about the features it has (traction control, abs, slipper clutch etc) but described the general vibe this bike has to a T.
If anyone is watching this video in 2024, I have a stock 19' CB650R with 17k miles on in it. I have maintained it well but I haven't been precious about it. This bike has been absolutely flawless. 4 oil changes, 2 chains, 3 sets of tires and 2 air filters with no issues whatsoever. Near daily ridden for the past 2.5 years in AZ, if you are considering a CB this is a fun and reliable machine. Gonna have the timing checked and adjusted, but sticking to the maintenance schedule Honda set keeps this bike as reliable as my car.
Hey thanks for sharing. I just started looking at these after almost buying a CBR600. Can't go wrong with Honda!
The CBR 600r is on my shortlist for next bikes. I've never ridden or owned a sports bike. So I'm wondering if there's an appreciable difference? I mean I know there is, but is it something that I would enjoy coming from a standard style seating position? And while this is plenty fast and flickable I find myself drooling over a more aggressive bike. My CB650R is probably going to influence all my choices and bikes no matter how much I want to experience everything because it's just been so damn good.
That’s awesome. I’m really interested in this bike. I’ve been waiting years to be able to get new (Covid put a big halt on that), and this makes me want it even more.
@@jacobbaumgardner3406 They only real concern I have with this bike is that it is apparently not common. I was recently talking to a sale manager where I bought my bike about the 2024 update on the CB. He told me without knowing I was the person he was talking about. That he hadn't seen a CB650 in 2 year and that the guy who bought their last was "a lucky bastard" and the timing was perfect. Apparently he was eyeing that specific bike for himself. With that said parts that are specific to the CB650R are 100% going to need to be ordered. I order parts at least 2 weeks before I need them for that reason.
This video helped me choose this bike as my first bike. I've been riding the CB650R a few months and I've been absolutely happy with it.
hey man, I don't know if you are gonna see this but I've been thinking about getting the CB650R as my first bike, and seeing that's what you did, I would really like to know your thoughts on it. On your experience, is it a good first bike option?
While I can understand the enjoyment some might get out of occasionally or constantly wrenching on or modifying their bikes, I personally prefer to spend my time riding. Other than some tires, a couple of cosmetic/comfort modifications and one or two performance additions, I’d be content to just get on the thing and ride while never having to worry about it starting or leaving me stranded.
Fully agree with you
There’s a difference between working on one’s bike and fixing a consistently broken machine lol
Which would therefore be applicable to even the most reliable of machines being that everything requires preventative maintenance @@boobween192
Started riding on a 2015 Yamaha R3 (great bike for a starter) and then bought the 2019 CB650R brand new 3 months ago and I simply love it 🇨🇦
Thanks for the review 👍🏼
The f4i is my favorite bike of all time. And was my stunt bike for 4 years. I beat it up for 4 years straight, constant drops, constant rev limiters and it’s never skipped a beat. Honda makes amazing machines.
Agreed . Still have my '01 F4i bought new, about 20k miles now. Red/ black just like my original 87 Hurricane 600. Done plenty of track days and drag strip passes on it. Miguel Duhamel replica with #17 on the seat cowl. Will not get rid of it for anything. That bike is ME. Absolutely love it. Hard to believe that the bike is almost 20 yrs old. Still get a grin ever time I throw a leg over her. One of the best bikes ever made IMHO. But I LOVE you the new CBR650/1000s
F4i simp here too. I wish I had those awesome new safety features. Otherwise - it's perfect as it is.
Papa yam! The script writing is beautiful :'). A joy to listen to.
Have an '85 CB450 and I absolutely love it. So glad they kept the classic look, while still making it look upgraded on the '19!
I still miss my 74 CB550, which had that fantastic 4 in line sound, even with the factory pipes, it was smooth as silk and a joy to ride. This might be a good choice to continue that dream...
Awesome review man. Looked to your videos to help me get tips to learning how to ride
My first Honda. Can’t wait for winter to be over!
"Shed built project bike"...shows image of Royal Enfield Himalayan....harsh! :P
Seriously that racist pic shows his true self and how low he is comparing a 650 with 400 odd bike is seriously stupid
@@harshavardhanmp2031 accept the fact that R.E builds crap. and just so you know that there's nothing Indian about R.
Thanks guys, the insight Spite gave, made me decide that this is my kinda bike for a first bike and reliable.
Hey i know you wrote this comment many moons ago, did you buy the cb? If so how is it how was it can you recommend it as a first bike?
83 CB650SC Nighthawk owner here. I find this bike cures everything Spite said. You do have to wrench on it occasionally due to age, but the great Honda engineering makes sure it kept to a minimum. Just bushings, fork seals, pretty much anything made of rubber due to age. Do the repairs right and you'll never have to do them again. The engine is AMAZING, buttery smooth all the way to redline and it feels like a turbo kicks in at 6000 rpm. Cruising on the highway is great. Dual disc front brakes make sure the twisties are fun. Amazing bike all around.
Forgot how amazing the dash is on the CB650R, definetly one of the best new bikes.
Having one, totally love this bike. Pure naked bike with lots of torque to offer
Torque is literally the only thing it lacks lol
Bought the CB650r in Australia about 1 month ago, upgraded from cbr300r
i am amazed at the bike, it is so smooth fast and extremely surprised about how comfy seat is aswell as how great the brakes work.
10/10 can recommend
@@MrDeepseadwellermine is not restricted,
It's just a torgue and ECU limiter very easy to let loose.
Hey man, I too have the 2019 cb300r and thinking of an upgrade soon... Are you still happy with your choice?
How is it going after 3 years ?
@Bogdan Amazing done over 20k kilometres.
Turn on like a gem still. Serviced twice new back tyre, and that's it.
Been a dream.
i appreciate u taking the time to reply to a 3year old thread

I had a CBR 600f4i for my first bike. it was in rough shape, but, it gladly kept up on some twistys, had plenty of power for my beginner self, and it was comfortable as all hell. I was able to take up on a 4 hour road trip with just a backpack only having to stop for gas. I tried so hard to find another bike like that, preferably >2010, but ended up with a zx6r that gave me a track addiction.
This is Frickin' dope.
(No swearing please)
Great review, looks like an awesome bike & personally like the reliability aspect too 😎
Yeah... I just want a motorcycle that RUNS. Honda gives me that.
Honda is awesomeness, i am the very, very happy owner of a pristine 2012 cbf 600 2nd hand 16000km as a 69 yr returning rider i could not get a more perfect bike, i love the half fairing, yeah this is my do all bike.
Regards from rsa kzn South Coast, all year round great biking weather.
Keep up the fantastic bike reviews.
Regards Johann
I am an "older" (more experiened?) rider who started on a 50cc many years ago. I really appreciate your review of the 650R because I am in the market for a new bike to hop on and go. I now own a '74 cb550 brat style and GS650 cafe style bikes and get tired of having to wrench on them before taking a ride. Maybe the 650R should be in the starter and ender categories. 👍😁
Excellent review guys! 👍👍👍 I’ll demo one in the spring.
Talking about reliability, my current ride (and for well over 20 years) is a 1993 CB750 Nighthawk with 120k miles. Tires, batteries, chains, carb to intake gaskets and that’s about it for maintenance. The Honda builds the Energizer Bunnies of motorcycles!
120k miles! You're the man!
Proud yet "BASH"ful 675r owner lol
Papa Yam you're truly a Triumph goober 👍
Was looking at a CB650r as my first bike. Almost 10k out the door and insurance quote was insane.
Got a used 2015 street triple with 3100 miles on it for 6k out the door. Couldn't be happier.
and a used street triple is way better than a new CBR650...
@@Tekdiver1981 good to hear. I'm still new to the motorcycling world. My wife just so happen to get a new job at the local triumph dealer. Took advantage 😁
10k? What a rip
@@seeno1 in my country you need 12k to get the brand new cb650r, such a rip off
Good info. Wasnt thinking about a honda before this review. Now I'm giving Honda a look.
I bought the CB650F. It is my first bike and as the video said, it will be my forever bike although I am adding a bobber to the garage. One of the reasons I bought it is I am over 6 feet and had trouble finding something that fit my praying mantis legs. As a first time rider, 94 horsepower is a lot but the way the bike is geared it never feels like it’s leaving me behind. I like that
Got the 650r and I LOVE it!
I currently Drive a 2016 CB650F, its a great bike, I was riding a CBR929RR before it and the 650 is a much better all around bike for daily driving and long trips. The CBR was tone of fun, it was way to fast and twitchy for me I'm suppressed that i didn't kill my self haha. Your review is pretty spot on.
Buying a 2020 this weekend. Can't wait to get it back to the house and make some upgrades!
This bike is on my wish list. If I don't win the give-away in March, I'll have to snatch one off the dealership showroom floor.
“Entrepreneur full of gumption“... Love it.
Rode on a cb 400 vtec once.. even that had the most amazing sound, and it moves a lot quicker than I expected it to.power was very linear and it's a very all round bike. Would love to own a CB someday
It's absolutely a beautiful piece of hardware, that price though... Maybe I will buy one used in 2030, hoping I am still breathing by then
best middle weight with respect to ergonomics and i like the inline 4 rather than the parallel twin cuz this is gonna be my first big bike
Wish honda stuck that motor in a rebel frame & added a comfortable seat...
that would be excellent
Well... There are plans afoot to put the 1100 Africa Twin engine in the Rebel!
I wish the put that engine in a sports tourer frame
Give it a go;)
I know right. The stock seat is rock hard.
Great review, apart from the 'Honda corporate Bike' metaphor where I think you got a bit tied up and lost the thread. Personally I'm considering the bike as a move from the Rebel 500 I'm riding currently (too long a story to tell here) because one of the things I've loved about the Rebel is it's 'corporate' Honda reliability, rather than the 'Arrividerci' of my previous Italian ride.
Great video. Middle weights are perfect price wise and power wise. My Super Duke and others in that category have too much powee
When Spike mentioned and brought up the image of the 900F: I emotionally almost fell forward off my chair.
Thinking about getting this as my first bike. I’ve rode dirtbikes but I want to get into street riding. I’m taking the msf course this weekend.
So at the beginning of this contest, I was hoping for the Suzuki. But, now I have to add the Honda to my hope to win bike. It would be a nice change up from my Harley
I saw one of these on the road a few days ago. It's a very nice looking bike.
Honda’s are smooth and polished. Worlds largest manufacturer of bikes has the money!
I had my motorcycle lessons on one wich tells enough. Its safe, it can be fast enough, its comfortable and so on. so i totally agree with this video. Its super practical and also a beauty of a tank but its not really to fall in love with
My favorite bike was my first one. A cb750 nighthawk (1991) which I picked up for $1450, (around 2003) in great shape. I only didn't buy another one recently because no ABS. I actually did get an FJR1300 with ABS this summer, and it's also good. once rolling, feels much like that nighthawk did under me. I'm just not a fast-bike rider, I guess. I don't need the 141 hp of this FJR, and I do love the bike. It's great for taking my wife, daughter and son on rides, which they love. But I'm not sure I'll ever LOOOOVVVVEEE a bike like I did the simple rightness of that 1991 Nighthawk. This bike sounds like it comes close.
It's my bike
...
...
And it's lovely! 😍😍
Love the sound of a 4 cylinder bike😊
I’m considering changing my Ducati scrambler to one of these and the one point you made hit it on the head. I’ve found myself getting numb hands on the duke and thinking it’s the vibrations from the L-Twin. I never got this from my old 4 cylinder bikes… thanks for helping me make my mind up.
Just came up on a year of owning mine. Still never want to get off it!
I have An Honda mbx 50 with a 70 cc parmakit and a performance gianelli exhaust and i love that bike with its old school 2 stroke sound and its Honda reliability
Seriously considering one as a second bike, or it's possible it could end up being my new only bike. Been riding for 20 years, I like the appeal of a middle weight inline four.
Your the best papa yam🥰
You've convinced me. I'm getting one.
I'm a proud owner of 2019 cb650r and it's amazing bike. I'm almost 2m tall and 110kg and this bike does not hasitate at all with me on. It has all the sparcles you would look for at a reasonable price. All important featchers you need - ABS & TC and up to 12k screaming RPM.
Totally worth it!!
I’d definitely do the fender eliminator kit and of course a full Leo Vince exhaust
I bought one, I love it
I have the 650F. 2018 model. Love it
Yo Yammie i was about to buy My first bike r3 but could not due to some reason, have been trying to convince my parents from past 8 yrs, my craze for these super machines coz of u thanks man🤣
Love your choice in music Clammy Splooge...;-)
They should bring back inline 4 500/550cc bikes✌
A mt 07 used under 7k today is a miracle tbh 😂 Good old times
ive owned two honda bikes a cbr 300r and a 600rr and i love my current 600 but i find it hard to do 8hr rides all day with put being sore so im currently looking to buy a naked which is more comfy and the cb650 was the first thing i had in mind
The Fireblade. The Hurricane. The Fazer. The Tempter...not all 80's-90's naming conventions were great lol
Beautiful bike
I really like the NeoRetroCafe line.
looks good, i'll take it
Love of my life
One of the best bikes for the price. I see bikes with the same price and more ccs with not even half of the power it has.
It’s the Hornet for the modern man. (The new Hornet is great - but this feels like the successor)
Good Stuff Guys - I really enjoy your videos! So, I live in Canada, did my first ride on friend's 250 Kawa Dual, practiced on a Vulcan 500, trained on a Honda CBR500, Bought myself a Tiger 955i to pass my exam, enjoyed a Honda 250 Dual on a tropical island.... 6 years later, I am considering this little CB650R.... Sell my old Triumph adventure and go with the Honda? Is it a good idea?
Yammie im taking my MSF today soon i will be a squidlet all hail the hentai hornet
CBR Runner so, how’d it go? Nice n boring motorcycle to learn on?
Wer're dying to know~
Update...
Inexperienced rider led to bad accident. Rounding a corner he had come into his turn late and he veered of an embankment.
Wow...I hope he makes it back 100.
Tony Greene how do u know
I think I might get this as my first bike
I'm thinking it will be my second. Hopefully next year
So in a nutshell it's a Honda hornet back from the dead to get the masses drooling and salivating over!
Cb650r that nice-looking bike I'd even buy one to ride
Damn you for making me think of my 9er! Didn't realize just how good I had it until it and I got hit-I made it out alive, but... sigh
Passed my bike test on one of these baby’s. couldn’t afford one though. Maybe next bike..... or a KTM 790
Yamster! Open this contest up for international viewers too
Yes pleazzzzze
Damn Spite, my immortal by Evanescence, that's rough.😂 I feel that though.
Just got my CB 650 R last week
Loved every second on it
Best value for money with quality
Smooth throttle
Good brakes
Good suspension
Like the tachometer
Tons of customization options
My only 2 complaints are:
Foot pegs position is not comfortable
Almost always feel the heat on my left foot
Make sure you're riding with the balls of your feet on the pegs; and wear proper gear such as boots, pants, jacket, gloves, and helmet. Dress for the slide not the ride.
@@Bruce-Wayne717 bro nice quote at the end
What did you pay for it
2 years later, 64,000 km
Not a single problem
Downside of being in Australia is that the CB650R is only available in a detuned LAMS version with 52hp, with no option for the full fledged version. For this reason alone, the Suzuki gsx-s750 is more appealing since we can get the full fledged version of that bike.
@Jack Price I know right?! It shouldn't just be Suzuki and Kawasaki offering non LAMS versions of the same bike. Heck, I'm sure most people would be willing to pay 1-2k to de-LAMS their bikes down the track. Much cheaper than buying a new bike for a power increase and then having to deal with selling the old bike.
Currently I ride Duke 390 and I am really looking forward to this motorcycle for my next upgradation but in India we have the CBR 650R and not this CB.. hence my only chance to owe one is to win your giveaway . I would pay the customes you guys don't have to worry for that :)
Missed a perfect opportunity for Spite to get in on the dad action. Yammie Noob, Jammie J, Sammie Spite. Why have just two dads when you could have had three?
Jerails sounds like a sitcom...
You mentioned the F4i, but missed that this CB650R, and the CB650F before it are the modern version of the Honda CB600F Hornet aka Honda 599 (little brother to the Honda 919).
I have the 18 CB1000R
When modded with full exhaust, rapidbike fuel controller, BMC air filter and Pirelli Angel GTs
It’s a beast! That Euro 4 is a killer on the midrange stock ECU. Although not so sure how it affects the 650R
Best part is learner legal in my state in australia!
I thought it was a review and realized it's a history lesson.
i want one, i want one, i want one. although a 919 is always lurking in the back of my head
The CBR919 is the best looking 90’s supersport there is. I still think mine looks great next to modern day bikes.
Would love to see Honda raise the displacement to 750cc, this bike price and HP wise competes closer to bigger middleweight bikes. And is to expensive compared to other 650’s. Bump in displacement would give it enough power to help justify the price. Plus’s a Honda 750 is an iconic thing 😃
I guess...but the quality is on another level compared to its displacemt competition. So it's already worth it.
@@mitchellsteindler I owned one I know. But I still think it would be a good move for Honda
it’s also probably at 94bhp so it can be restricted for an a2 license in the uk and Australia’s restricted license (maybe other countries as well)
Thanks
Holy shit I didn't realise how expensive these were in the states. I finally picked mine up for 8650ish ride away which even for me is a lot to spend on a bike.
My dream bike
I wish I have this Honda CB650R too 😂
-filipino subscriber is here
M literally trash at mechanic so the fact of the cb being reliable is a good thing .
That second guy owes us an explanation
Rank number 2 in the world😎
Ohh the Triumph Daytona and the Honda Interceptor.
Neo-retro? No. Neo-UJM? Yes. As much as I enjoy turning wrenches on my bikes, I don't own Harleys (any more) for a reason. When it's 70 degrees and sunny, it's nice to have at least one bike that doesn't need to be put back together before you can ride it. Kawasaki started the middleweight I4 UJM category with the KZ650. It was a good idea then, and it's still a good idea. That's why I have a resto-mod KZ650 in my stable.
Hope im the one lucky person to receive that beautiful bike. Watching here from Philippines ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Damn I wish I had an extra 10k laying around just for this bike...
@3:14 is this a vinWiki reference? If so, I'm all for it :D
