Chewing is my issue for sure. I have to remind myself, no one is going to steal my plate away. Thank you for this.
I'm the worst! My husband has to remind me to chew well and slowly... 😭
Same here . I’ve been told I eat way too fast 😞 I think it’s my anxiety that makes me eat a lot and too fast. I feel bloated afterwards. It sucks.
Thats funny cuz my older brother used to steal food off my plate all the time as a kid
Hahaha..... Why are you telling my story??🤣🤣😂
I know this is old, but for anyone who comes across this I need to just say, Derek you literally fixed my decades of heartburn with this one video. I have been off medication for 3 years now and have been absolutely fine. I was suffering for so many years. THANK YOU
TLDW:
1. Eat in a relaxed state.
2. Chew enough.
3. Increase fiber and new food intake slowly.
4. Stay hydrated.
5. Cook your food (Mainly vegetables).
Thx
@@HDvids101 you're being delusional. I had crazy bloating when I was still eating meat. Much better now.
@@HDvids101 Meat doesn't prevent bloating dude. In high school, I ate an insane amount of meat and I was always bloated - I actually remember looking up on UA-cam at the time 'How to stop bloating' because it was so bad. I eat vegan starch based now and I hardly bloat.
@@HDvids101 Of course not. What a stupid idea.
@@mattnicholson in high school means fucking processed meats and overcooked in fucking oils!!
Was able to fix my digestion after 10 years of embarrassing gas problems. I simply just drank more water than I thought was necessary everyday. Just drink a luxurious amount everyday. Gas is gone and am able to eat lactose freely! Hope this helps a few people.
Chop that salad! I always chop my veggies as small as I can, layer it in beautiful, colorful layers and dress with fresh citrus juice (I squeeze orange or lemon wedges over my salad) and then chew it up! A chopped salad is so much easier to eat, you will eat more salad!
I'm going vegan tomorrow, it's time for a change. Thank you for the amazing tips Derek!
awesoooommmeeeee good luck!
Woo congrats! Wish you the best, if you have any questions make sure to ask
Nice!
Miro Yolov tomorrow? What’s for dinner tonight?
Well done!! You're doing the right choice buddy :) life will get better for you and for those who surround you (animals specifically :))
"From gum to bum" 🤣. Another great and informative video, thanks!
XD
My newborn had reflux. A doctor wanted to put him on medicine. I just fed him diluted apple cider vinegar with a dropper and he was cured in about a week. Never had a problem again....he's now 12!
Fun fact; fir centuries people have prayed and gave thanks before every meal. This is an excellent way to get your body prepared and relaxed before eating.
Many people hardly chew their food , I noticed this on a daily ... And you are right , digestion starts inside the mouth and it’s important to chew properly ..
You know it! :D
Most under rated tip. I notice at social gatherings its easy to crush food without thinking about chewing
Red Pill Vegan so true
I wish I could get into this habit. Have been trying forever but I always forget until I'm already bloated :(
Perpetually Annoyed try putting your fork down between bites. It’s hard to break lifetime habits but this helped me.
Thank you for being a responsible youtuber and letting people know to see a professional if they have a serious issue. Also, these are great tips for anyone to implement, awesome video!
No problem, it would be wrong of me to say anything different. Gut issues can be serious and individualized help is out there.
I was bloated for soooo long, everyday, after going vegan. Then I just started drinking a sufficient amount of water (around 1.5-2.5L/day) and I’m allll good
Thank you for the advice 👍👍👍 I’m going to try drink lots of water 💦
Meg i am so bloated and gassy..and miserable. Ill up my h20 asap..i already drink 1-2 liters as I fly a lot
Same, also I realized another reason I was gassy, the fake meats & not rinsing my canned beans did it. Also I still pre-soak my dried beans even using an IP, & it helps.
Please try digestive enzymes. I was so bloated, in pain, insane heartburn. It’s literally all gone after 2 days. Take one before each meal. Total game changer
My Chilean mother-in-law always grew a cedrón bush in her garden - otherwise known as lemon verbena. If you want to look after your tummy, just put four or five fresh leaves with boiled water poured over the top and let it steep. Drink it as fresh tea - beautiful, feel good straight away. You can make it as a cold tea infusion too - it looks beautiful in a big glass jug with ice served in summer. Just grow lemon verbena in your garden and at the end of summer pick all the leaves and dry them in paper bags in a dry place then once dried, store in glass jars to have lemon verbena all winter long. Cut the bush back a bit to keep it in good order. If you don't have a sunny spot for the bush in the garden, it will happily grow in a well lit, sunny spot in a pot (like mine - have had it for 30 years in 4 different houses). I think it works better than peppermint 😊
Hi Drrek, I'm 60yrs young now and as some of my friends are going vegan I find it very difficult to cook meals for them. While looking for recipes I found your channel and I love it so much that I have already tried some of your recipes for myself 😁. I just want to eat healthier more often and make better choices. Love your videos 💞
So I NEVER comment on anything, but my fiancé and I just started the vegan lifestyle two days ago and I LOVE your videos!!! Like I LOVE LOVE LOVE you’re energy and your personality in these videos! Thanks for the information and helpful tips!!
Thank you for these tips! FYI the reason canned beans are easier to digest is because the fermentable carbohydrates (in this case oligosaccharides) are water soluble, therefore a good deal of them are released into the water in the can. They should be drained and well-rinsed to further remove these fibers - this is especially helpful for people struggling with bloating, gas, IBS, etc. These fermentable sugars and fibers are known as Fermentable Oligosaccharides Disaccharides Monosaccharides and Polyols - aka FODMAPS.
Man... that shirt makes your points so much more convincing.
I've been trying to figure out why I have so much indigestion lately- I haven't changed my diet all that much but now that I think of it- I've been super busy at work and working through my lunches at my desk trying to shovel food in my face to get it over with. I think I've found my issue....thanks for the reminder Derek
No problem, that was my problem too for a long time.
Not often we see you in a shirt Derek! Looking good! And some Fantastic tips in the video 😁
no shirt is also looking good too, derek ;-)
Derick thanks a lot man. Been on a vegan weight gain journey eating 3600 calories a day and I fixed my bloating by slowly adding beans and completely fixed my digestion by using lemons and apple cider. When I go below 3000 calories I’m fine. But as I increased I saw some minor problems. You helped me fix it 100%
Cardiologist said vegan diet will reverse arterial disease. I'm 65 and losing weight and feeling great. Drinking ginger tea as gas is a new symptom
So glad you mentioned the positives of cooking certain foods vs raw 👍
It really does help, raw is quite hard on digestion compared to cooked! I am glad you liked that tip.
I found from my experience when you turn the stress off, you get better digestion , that apparently because you're activating your Parasympathetic nervous system a.k.a. Rest & Digest system. 💗 🙂
How the fuck do you just turn stress off? Are you kidding me? Some of us have to work shitty jobs for a living. You sound like an entitled brat.
That is what he claimed, yes.
@Cloud of Time Lol 😅 I swear I commented before I opened the vid, after I played the video I felt a little bit awkward. 😳 I actually came out with tha comment after going to doctor, when he told me that I should have a proper " Vagul Tune " in order to had a better digestion.
@J w Well, there's a lot of things and techniques you can do to overcome stress, like taking control of things, taking action, be aware of your strength point , and being aware of your present moment . Good luck 🍀 😊
@@Jw-un8oh You don't just turn stress off, its not a switch to do that but you can eliminate it by time. You don't have to be an entitled brad to live your life aware and actually take control of your life. Change your job, fight for your rights, your own individuality, dignity and life! Saying that you work shitty job and "accepting" that for a living is so wrong in many levels. Act drop your fears little step by time but do something about it.
Thank you, Derek!

Good to know thank you Derek. 👍
Other tips:
1. cook legumes with a tablespoon of sodiumbicarbonate
2. Rinse canned food with water until no more foam is visible
3. Chew some fennelseeds after your meal
4. Add savory (herb) to your meal
5. Eat smaller meals but more times throughout the day
Thank you so much for making this video. I can use all the help I can get!
These are all such great tips. #1 - relax - is SO important. I've learned on my own personal food/health journey that if I am anxious, I either lose my appetite or become nauseous and end up eating too little. I've also experienced the opposite, where stress can cause over-eating. Either way, it's so important to find that zen and be mindful and relaxed while eating, which also makes eating that much more enjoyable, being able to appreciate all the flavors and sensations of the food that nourishes me. 💗🧘🏻♀️ I would also add that posture while eating is very important. Eating while slouched or laying down (like snacking in bed) can cause some indigestion, for sure!
Another great and informative video. LOVE Cocos clip at very end ❤
Derek I just wanted to say that your previous video where you gave some tips for digestion really helped out a friend of mine who is Plant Based but not vegan! Love the content that helps many, this included
Thank you! I am so glad it helped.
I just read your comment and am so glad you made a distinction between plant-based and vegan (as many people still don't get that there's a difference).
