Well I am from that good place called Australia, where we drive on the left side of the road in cars with right hand steering wheels. I have an 07 Rubicon JKU that has now done 265K kilometres (about 165K Miles). I have travelled all over this great country (deserts mainly, but also high country, beaches, sand, mud, rocks etc. ). You name it I have been there! Pretty much 200K kilometres (125K miles about) have been off road. And some very gnarly places. Thing is, I really dont know why people want to can the JKU. It has never let me down. It has proven itself time and again, pulled out stuck Toyota, Nissans, Landrovers etc etc etc. and taken me to some of the most beautiful places you could see. It has never let me down. It has been kept pretty much stock standard except for a 2" lift, HD rear springs and Mud Terrain tyres. It has standard bumpers etc. No winch: I rely on mud traxs - 2 minutes and you are out! When in the remote outback, I sleep in the Jeep. Everything I need is able to be snuck inside or on top in a roof rack, including fuel, water, food, spares, lighting, tents etc. There is just no way that I will be getting rid of the JKU. Even the missus says I should and can keep it. Howzat!!

300k is a lot of miles ! Sounds like now you have a solid rig and will enjoy it for many miles to come. I would hope all the experts who want to criticize why anyone would rebuild a 3.8 or why you would pay so much for your Jeep would just thank you for taking the time to video your ride . Instead they want to show you how smart they are and tell you their opinion. I watched the whole video and not once did I hear you ask anyone to tell if they thought you made a wise choice or spent your money wisely .Thanks for your submission and glad you are happy with it. Does not matter how long you had it. The main thing is you told us all what was done with it , what you want to do with it . And that’s what TFL asked subscribers to do ! I appreciate the entertainment that TFL produces every day. They work they’re ass off to deliver quality content every day of the week. These guys make a great team and are some serious workaholics with a successful business model. Thanks again for your submission and TFL’s dedication to their subs !

Well what a find.....we have an 08 with just over 60, 000 miles on it...and it's been doing the engine light thing...so we are replacing sensors...the latest is the ekg, and the catalytic converter...we like the jeep, so we will bite the bullet, and hopefully get through these new annoying problems. The fact that your jeep did 304, 000 miles alone is quite amazing..and now you a whole new life of mile potential..that 3.8 engine is good and the oil usage issues are apparently eased if you use 10/30...and just keep an eye on it... we have exactly that same jeep..the Sahara unlimited.....I'm hoping you will post updates on what you want to see it as...enjoyed your presentation....keep it up

This is good to know. My JK 2dr Rubi with manual box has a 2.5" lift and 285/70/17 wheels. For most of its life it had slightly larger tyres. 305/70/17. It now has 215K Km (Roughly 120K Miles) and its also still going. The gearbox is a bit rough/clunky but its been like that since 30K km when I got it in 2012 (2010 model) so I assume its normal. Only had to replace the starter and the clutch so far. Water still dripping from the exhaust in the morning (My grandfather used to say is a good sign 🙂 )
Before this i had a TJ 06 model, Miss that guzzler quite a bit! and think of getting another one. a 2dr jk vs TJ in terms of power and sluggishness is about the same in my opinion. But the TJ with autobox sounded a whole lot better with the cats removed.

My good friend has a 1st gen Jeep Liberty with over 320,000 miles on it and it's still going strong. Mostly highway miles for a work commute but good maintenance is a key in the engine surviving this long. Don't know of anything going wrong with it just regular maintenance. I know it's an exception but good to see a Wrangler doing well with this many miles.

    • @crsantin

I had an 02 Liberty that I drove forever. High mileage. It ran great the whole time I had it with the exception of a funky neutral safety switch that the dealership couldn’t figure out. I finally found a mechanic who knew what was going on. Otherwise it was reliable. Terrible gas mileage though.

Nice Jeep! The old 3.8 doesn't get much love, but my 08 Rubi runs like new and the engine has been bulletproof. I've got 140k on mine, so it is just a baby compared to this one! I've no doubt it will hit 300k. It has no rust other than on the gas tank skid plate, despite 13 Indiana winters with plenty of road salt. I've run mostly Mobil 1 oil and Fram Ultra filters in it, changed every 6k miles. I change plugs every 40k and differential/T-case/Transmission fluid every 25k to 35k. Mine has a 2" spacer lift and 33" tires, and a 6 speed manual. It has been off-road all over the country, so outside of maintenance, it has not been babied. I did replace rusty rock rails with "new" ones off Craigslist. I had them line-X'd and I also put new Quadratec wheels on it 2 years ago. These are tough, durable, and reliabel machines. I'll still have mine 10 years from now.

I was looking for a jeep, land Rover, land cruiser, samurai, something cool and fun but quickly found out so is everyone else and prices are outrageous. $1900 for a boxy old rust free trooper and $700 for mud tires is my idea of 'budget ' 4x4

I am unsure if that was a good deal based on it having 300,000 miles more. 21k will cover a lot of repairs so maybe it was a good deal if you look at it that way. my 2011 unlimited Sahara is modded w everything available except a full weld-in cage & 1 ton axels. It has 96,000 on its v6 & 42RLE autotranny & 5.13 Yukon's. Axles are Artec builtup as far as available + gussets, trusses, better lockers front/rear, all guts ) and rides on a full Synergy Mfg 3" Stage III lift / control arms
it's only ever had non ethanol fuel , serviced per manual intervals recommended.
I have changed oil w Amsoil synthetic 5w-30 at exactly 4500 miles & the auto tran filter & fluid are swapped every 35k. It purrs like a kitten & will crawl a wall , not joking .
these are very dependable vehicles that only exhibit problems* if the very specific & necessary maintenance routines & procedures are followed closely & accurately.
(* there were some small numbers of bad blocks the 2012 year Pentastar had it's 1st year & which some saw sand in blocks cast channels ,but most of those were weeded out long ago ...)
these 2007-2010 get bad wrap , but they were just transmissions that were not mated with a suitable power plant and thus underpowered when driving on the road)

I agree, I have a 2007 Jeep Sahara with over 300k miles as well. The car is probably worth $3-4k. If i were in the same position I would look for one with less miles or preferably use the money as a down payment on a new or slightly used jeep that still has a warranty. Especially when Jeeps get older they need a lot of maintenance and it would be smarter to invest that same money that would be spent fixing any issues that will come up and just buy a newer jeep with way less miles.

Looking at a '13 right now myself. It has 200,000 miles on it and I can get a deal as it is RHD used for rural postal routes. What has me interested, outside of a few that posted otherwise, the 3.6 has already proven to be an extremely reliable engine. Plus this Jeep has extensive service history. They are offering right at $10k which may seem high but is almost $5k below KBB pricing and i'll just pay cash. I would just go ahead and replace the radiator, alternator, water pump, and timing chain. That way engine wise it would be in good shape. Go ahead and also replace the bushing with a kit. The parts are not that expensive and I can easily do all of that work myself in a couple of weekends. My use would be low miles anyway as I just want a cheap Jeep to use as a toad behind my motorhome. There is not a single bit of rust other and a few very light surface rust spots underneath. Should work out great. I have no plans for a lift. Just larger tires that fit stock and just replacing a few sun faded parts.

Track bar, drag link, tie rod, check those first.
Have someone turn the engine on and turn slowly from full lock to full lock while I visually, manually (with my hands on the components), and auditorily inspect for any play in the tie rod ends, drag link ends, sector shaft, trackbar ends/bolts/brackets, and trackbar bracket welds.
Then, do the same thing but with short, sharp, quick back and forth turns of the steering wheel between the 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock positions, instead of the slow, lock to lock approach.

Do not lift it and put bigger tires on it. You will wear down the front end joins and it will turn into a money pit. Those tires are great and the best for a stock JK and don't worry about 12 year old tires as most of the tires for sale sit in the warehouse for over 10 years.. Go to your local auto store and buy a patch tire kit (plugs) and patch your own tire. You should have a patch kit in your trunk while off road. Message me for any questions as I have the same jeep with 250,000 KLM's on it... running like new. Keep it stock and it will last forever !!!!
