I love how PTX is the smallest group but they fill the stage the best.
Well said! Only discovered them a week ago, purely by accident, and making my way through everything I can find on them. Love the judges' comments on other videos. Aaaannd, going to see them live in May! Woohoo :o)
Probably because they all have suck a crucial role. Whereas in other larger groups like this some people don't have as large a role.
The reason that i love this show is that you can look in the background at the other groups and they are cheering as hard as the audience. It just seems like such a community of friends rather than a competition
I'll always think that the Video Killed the Radio Star performance is where everything "clicked" for them. They were struggling a bit to find their true identity and once they found it they never looked back! Incredible performances week after week and the fact that the group is still together (minus Avi :c) is a testament to how talented they are

Savannah Bowskill I know no one said anything about it, but THIS proves how small Mitch is. I get so tired of seeing, "What happened to the old Mitch?" like he's RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU. The way he looks right now is how the 'old Mitch' looked.
Sha'Nya Foreman Exactly! He just has a naturally skinny build. And his weight fluctuates. Doesn't make his current figure unhealthy.
I love watching them evolve as a group as they do these. At the beginning it was so centered around Scott being the lead singer, and Kirstie being the female back-up. They hadn't developed as a friend group yet, hadn't found their group style, just as a music group. They didn't have their individual relationships, Mitch and Scott didn't have their amazing inseperable friendship, Mitch wasn't quite so Mitch-y, and they still try to have matching outfits. You can watch their group dynamic change throughout their career, as friends, musicians, and just people in general, all of them discover themselves so much throughout the career of Pentatonix, and I'm sure they will continue to grow, and I'm so proud of them and so happy I get to watch them evolve.
Mitch and Scott had been friends since 4th grade, and Kirstie friends with those 2 since high school, so yes they had that friendship, but it got stronger as the group evolved.
the friendship stayed the same just the roles in the group changed. I love watching them back then Kristie is sooooo cute when she was younger! She's a hot and sexy woman now, but younger she was just so adorable.@@HenryEmery18

+Qwertyminer yeah, on mrduckbear11, a lot of people were commenting about how irritated they were that the judges did not even hear it but we all assume that thought it was Kevin. You can see him do specifically overtones in a few concert videos by looking up Avi Kaplan overtones Lion Sleeps Tonight.

I think what sets them apart is that not only do they have good harmonies and leads, but those beats are so sick. They really make it go from good to amazing!

in my opinion, Love Lockdown was the song that pretty much won the show for them... it was so intense, and really showed what they could do. That one, and Dog Days Are Over. The two best songs they did, definitely!

Everyone is saying that their favorite song is Video Killed the Radio Star, and I agree completely, but Love Lock down is my all time favorite. I even downloaded the song. :)
See the thing I really love about PTX is that, even right from the start they aren't only EXTRAORDINARILY talented, it's not just about the singing - they're so close that they move as one and are just the most perfect match ever for each other. Their entire performance is just the most feel good thing in the world :') So much love for you awesome guys xx

Just so you know, at 1:06, Pentatonix produced 6 sounds at once because of Avi's overtone. It still amazes me every time I watch their first performance in Sing-Off.
I just wanted to respond to an earlier comment left about their friendship and I'd just like to say that Mitch and Scott have been friends since they were in elementary school... So us they did have that inseparable friendship and Kirstie has been friends with them since they were in high school.

The judges knew they would win from the top, *almost* for sure. Besides the fact that they are just good as hell, they are completely innovative. No one has ever done what they did with A Capella, this electronic sound and everything. Plus, they are extremely commercial, and the judges, want it or not, have to take that in account, they got 5 different styles, looks, personalities, so anyone can identify with at least one. It's like they're a supergroup made to be awesome on purpose!

Mitch's part at 3:19 is one of the hardest runs I have ever heard and it was perfect.
This post is 11 years after this video was posted and i can say their success skyrocketed them into places they never thought or dreamed of going. This is pure music. No instruments are needed to down out horrible voices. These are great voices in unison and tune with each other. keeping their harmony flowing smoothly. Time together has done them well.
Love Lockdown and Dog Days Are Over are just amazing to listen to. Both give me chills every time I listen to them.

Some of the sounds are made on inhalations, but yeah ... he never stops. The amount of total body energy it takes to beatbox is amazingly higher than most people realize. To do it while also doing complex choreography, and to do it as well as he does... are both amazing. Imagine this world we live in where we can see this any time we want. 100 years ago, seeing a world class musician was the highlight of someone's life.

The Number One thing that I loved about Video Killed the Radio Star, is that all the other groups looked like they were dancing and stuff to it. It's clear who the winners are.

This group is so great it brings me to tears. I have been listening to them for a couple years now from when I first saw them on this show, but I'm just now I'm starting to realize Avi's greatness. Not to take away from any single one of them...how great is it that they all met and made this wonderful music?

Their cover of Your Love Is My Drug is still my favorite. You listen to it and you're just like "this is nice, but nothing special". And you start getting disappointed because you expected more of Pentatonix. But then motherfucking ACAPELLA DUBSTEP and everything is beautiful and nothing hurts.
why does no one include the audition because I never got to see it. it's one thing to see it at a concert or some other place but I feel like I missed something not seeing it.
The Sing Off doesn't have televised auditions. The season just starts with a bunch of groups.

Personally, I thought Your Love is My Drug is brilliant. When the worst thing the judges could say is that Ke$ha talk-sings and that they were too musical (i.e. talented), how could you really consider it a negative? But then again I love pretty much everything PTX does.
