As far as the audience knows, they're defending Paradis and the war will happen when they get attacked, and that's when you'll meet everyone again. These episodes are purely to see the enemy perspective if you don't pick up on the clues and aren't around the community spewing the eren theory all over the place. I know plenty of people that didn't catch it, and plenty of people that did. It's just about where your head is, not the clues.

It never says how she knew he was close with the Reiss family, but she must have just heard it from someone. When he caught her following him, she made up the dad story so he wouldn't know the real reason. She worked a case in the underground before while in the military police in the OVA, so she had spent some time down there, but this scene looks like she's younger than in the OVA, so she must have found out about the underground before she made it into the military police, unless her outfit just makes her look younger.

Kenny just jokes around with her, knowing that Annie is tailing him, its a fun game of house before the action. Then the promise I think is about Levi, to his sister. Maybe just being alive and around, he's referring to, or seeing Levi grow up cuz he's already in the scouts at this point in time. "I can't die now, I got shite to do" - Kenny. Basically. Cuz he thinks Annie is there to end his life, not to get info from.
Throughout the story, I sympathize with Bertolt. He is surrounded by mentally unstable people in addition to poor conditions. He is essentially the most elite of the elite.

to answer the question if who is the guy that hangs himself?, if I'm correct that was just some random guy they encountered while infiltrating the island/city of Eren. and they use his story that he told them (rainer and the gang). they used his story to something they made as a background of themselves. if you remember when they were training they where telling stories each on their own.

Back at the end of S3, with Grisha, we learned that even if you get your fingers cut off BEFORE you get a Titan, your fingers will grow back. I surmise that if Grisha's hands had fully healed before he got the Attack Titan, he would still be missing his fingers in Paradis. There's a reason I believe that, but you'll have to wait to see if you notice later on in the show. It's a small thing, and not really important to the show.

back in the day when I watched it, which was 2 months ago. I remember having the feeling that sure Reiner's group were trainers. I didnt hate him nearly as much as my wanting to know why they're doing it. and we never had any clear reasons until season 4 when we finally get to see their side. and while we were getting there perspective in season 4, we also get Reiner going into the battle field tanking hits for his side, making him more likeable and more than just a trainer to us. its hard to explain, but at some point in the show. the most that the show made me break was a brief Reiner scene. nearly got me the first watch. and when rewatching it with my mother and it almost got me again. Reiner has definitely been our enemy, but he was always a great character once once you have the context.
I think Kenny's promise is to never have kids. He knows how rough and cruel the world is and he doesn't want to bring up another Ackerman who will constantly have a target on their back.
I think the promise was more specifically about the brothel thing, because that's where his sister worked. So Annie basically overplayed her hand by using that as the crux of her cover story.
