Oh my god finally an actual engineer who actually knows what they’re talking about. All I’ve seen so far is just tech bros talking about whether I can game or something
Glad if it was helpful!
Jesus loves you. Give your life to Christ, turn from your sins, believe the gospel, and receive the sacraments. God wishes for none to perish but for all to come to repentance.
Usually games are a good metric for how good a laptop is for engineering if you are going to run heavy tasks like cad programa
To be fair, if it can game, it can CAD. My aunt is a proper architect and I’m studying engineering. Her whole office is all ROG laptops. I had a surface, it isn’t cutting it (there’s no dedicated gpu) so now I’m looking at the ROG surface z13 thing. Basically a surface with a gpu, it’s just really ugly and expensive.
Hi Anna, this is an excellent video! Thank you so much for making it! I don’t know if you made this response to my question in the comments of one of your earlier videos, but I’m choosing to believe so 😁. Anyway, you brought up a lot things I hadn’t thought about such as the screen material and the webcam location. I’m still shopping so this is really perfect timing for me. Thanks again and keep up the excellent work!
Yes! I did actually get the idea for this video from your comment, thank you ✨ Glad you liked it!
The Dell XPS 15 has served me well and is fairly popular at my school. Runs well with a lot of apps open at the same time. Decent battery life too.
Thanks for sharing! :)
is it really that good? I've heard the whole xps line has problems, specially with media
@@moretonesraros6703 I use it for mostly school/work related purposes (Matlab, excel, word, autocad, etc.), plus minor gaming, and I have nothing but good things to say about it.
It seems super expensive for no specs improvement over Precision or even Inspiron linups.
My XPS 15 battery has been replaced and it sucks. I can barely get 2-3 hours out of it and I need it plugged in all the time. Its like it needs permanent life support
I am soooo glad I watched this video before getting my laptop. I had been looking for one for about a month, and just when I was going to give up looking, I found this. So I guess what I am trying to say is... great video, I'm subscribing!
Thanks for the sub, glad that I could help! :)
Thank you very much for the advice ❤🙂👏This video helped me a lot
Excellent points. I’ve been a long time MacOS user and it pains me to have to switch back to Windows for CAD applications. The only work around for me has been to run Windows in Parallels virtual environment or previously to configure a dual-boot Mac using Boot Camp. While these solutions can work they can also add cost to a Mac ecosystem. In the end the virtual machine seems to be the best option as long as your CAD application supports virtual environments.
Thanks for sharing!
What about now considering that all the auto desk applications are now natively supported for apple silicon?
@@ProdbyDrew. so you said we should wait a year just for a dam Software to finish development ?
not to mention other software and device driver for FEM Device and LLD (Finite Element Method and Laser Leveling Device) with built in 3D scan couldn't work with Mac, and don't give people a Pain just because you love it when people Buy Apple Device.
May I ask You? How do You think, if I have a MacBook Pro 2018 i9 32 GB RAM and with SSD und AMD Radeon Pro 560x, could I use solidworks with bootcamp or should I buy another laptop?
Thank you so much for this!! I’m just about to start my first year of Chemical Engineering and this is exactly what I needed to know what to look out for 😊
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much. I’m a french mechanical professor and you’re video is good. I’ m tired of watching video where random tech youtubers recommand macbooks for students. It’s a very bad idea in our field.
THANK YOU!!! I NEEDED THIS VIDEO...Subscribed! :))
Thank you, glad I could help :)
future mechanical engineering student, gonna be going into uni soon and loved watching this!! thank you som much :) (also what sweater are you wearing it’s super cool 😭)
Really helpful video!
Thank you very much.
Glad it was helpful!
I'm an Electrical Engineering student, and an honest advice from me, don't get macOS if you use it for engineering tasks. If you use it for daily life is fine, but not for professional works. Even if you install windows on Mac, the performance is not as good as Windows. I intensely tried M1 MacBook Pro for one month, and this is my conclusion. It will be a pain in your as*.
Completely agree!
Second this. Especially for coding. Not having access to visual studio sucks on Mac.
What laptop would you suggest ?
Any Windows Laptop. DELL XPS13/15, or HP Spectre 360@@VAL-fk1mg
Completely not true. I am an electrical engineer. My M2 Ultra Mac Book Pro runs Windows 11 using Parallels much faster than my Windows Surface Pro runs Windows natively. That’s true even when running MacOS in a second window.
I'm an Ethiopian mechanical engineering student and right now in Germany as an exchange student in HKA and since my former PC is running too slow especially when I open Ansys 😂 I'm thinking of buying. Danke😊
Thank you ☺️💛
Thank you!!
I wish I had seen this video 3 years ago when I got my laptop. I got a gaming laptop, the Dell G7. It definitely is powerful but the battery life is awful so that means I have to lug around this gigantic charger everywhere which is frustrating. The battery life at full power is only like 1 and a half hours while doing LIGHT tasks. Very annoying. It also has this problem with the fan where it just keeps blowing randomly like it’s a passenger jet about to take off. Really embarrassing when you’re at the library. Anyways rant over but thanks for the video Anna!
When a liberal student doesnt know how to adjust performance...
Hahaha the laptop sounding like it's about to take off is very relatable 🤣
@@theannareich Oh yeah haha
@@bolbans Tried that, thanks for assuming 🙄
🤣
I watched your all videos nice
Thanks.. It was very helpful
Glad it helped!
Hello! I am looking into the zenbook you have purchased. do you recommend the newest Zenbook they have on the market rn? I am looking at the Asus Zenbook OLED 14"
Its helpful thank you!
Glad to hear :)
What about the numpad? I though it was essential since numeric data entry was common as ME major.
Also, what do you think about the Dell XPS or Thinkpad T16?
Thanks for the informative video. Looking forward to going to college this fall
That's the first time I hear this. I don't think a numpad is necessary at all and I don't even have one at work, nor does anyone I know. You just become fast at typing numbers with the keyboard
@@theannareichthanks for the reply. I guess its just personal preference. Good day!
@@nev6250 You could also get an accessory bluetooth keypad (microsoft makes a good one) for those times when it really helps.
hey! glad that i stumbled upon your vid, i'm gonna be a year 2 ME student in mid april , currently i have an acer travelmate for about 3 years already, it runs autocad slower and could not manage both autocad and inventor, do you have any suggestions for budget-friendly laptops? thankyou for creating this video!
Thanks for the video. I have an old 2012 Macbook Pro and i'm wondering which PC should I upgrade to.
if youre in eng with no windows desktop at home, get an xps. i have an m1 pro and its serving me well. i do also have a desktop at home which I use for cading. my campus also have computers with cad programs as well. so in my situation I just wanted to get a laptop which will last me forever, it didn't matter which one it was and the mac just turns out to be the best in longevity, easily outlasting any windows platform laptop.
Thank you for making my distrust on mac or windows as i am a mechanical engineering student
and you made my expense smaller than i had for mac. once again thank you
~from INDIA 🇮🇳
Im considering getting the Dell XPS 13 plus ,would that be a good choice? (looking forward to start my BSc in Mechanical engineering this fall :))
May I ask You? How do You think, if I have a MacBook Pro 2018 i9 32 GB RAM and with SSD und AMD Radeon Pro 560x, could I use solidworks with bootcamp or should I buy another laptop?
Hi Anna. I know little bit German.
Du bist sehr schön anna . Danke , super video.
Nice video 👍👍😊
Can one go for surface laptop 3 or surface laptop 4 in place of Dell XPS 15?
If you're going to do engineering stuff and seeking similar video like this to justifying your decision to buy MacBook, you're just wasting your time and get a windows laptop.
hello i will be studying material and metallurgical engineering in a month
its not as intense as mechanial engineering when it comes to curriculum
i was planing on getting a mac but it doesnt seem that logical do u have any info on that (ik that im gonna need autocad if nothing else lol)
Hallo anna. Thank you so much for the kindness of sharing this topic. Because me so frustrated about choosing my new laptop. ❤
Glad to hear I could help!
🤘this vid helped
Glad to hear 🤘
Hi Anna I am just about to purchase a laptop for my and needed to know what graphics card I should be looking at?
i absolutely love your videos ❤
Thank you, I'm glad to hear that!
Excellent video! Is it better for mechanical engineering students to have one laptop or both a laptop and a desktop? A lot of people say laptops get very noisy when doing heavy work load and having to listen to that fan noise for hours a days feels like a pain, on the other side desktops are way quieter and more powerful?
I'd say a laptop is sufficient and more practical since you're likely to work both from home and uni a lot and can easily bring your work anywhere you need to. I haven't really had any issues with loud fan noises but if you're more sensitive to that and have a large budget, you can of course always get a desktop for at home. I just don't think it's necessary and you'd need to make sure to always be able to access your files from both devices.
@@theannareich0:01
Does it make sense to build a more powerful PC at home for the CAD et cetera and buy a less powerful, way less expensive laptop for uni? Ty
What do you think about the dell inspiron? Thank you
Hi, what kind of Macbook you are using?
Superb ✨
good work
Perfect video for me, thank you. Also I had to rewind a couple times because I was focused on how pretty you are and your beautiful accent
Glad it was helpful!
Best video as a student thank you✌🏼
Happy to help!
my concern for hp is anti-right to repair, lenovo being that the batteries wear out oddly fast, asus has some overreaching reliability issues - they seem mostly in other lines not laptops though, and then dell seems like a nice spot but I'm not sure if that's accurate. Framework is also interesting but new, and also lenovo is from an older laptop but the battery I bought could've been on a shelf a while. Haven't had a hp or asus laptop though
I am student in a french Engineering School and I bought an M1 MBA the year before, almost no regret of my choice : my battery life is way longer than my mates using Windows laptops and I can charge it through usb-c whereas others often have proprietary charging port (they’re in pain when they forgot their adapters). Moreover my M1 MBA is silent (low heat and no fan) and has good performances, even in a Windows VM (but not as good as M1 optimized programs). And for specific heavy softwares like CATIA, we use the desktop machines in dedicated rooms or for remote work, the school gives us an access to a VDI (virtual desktop infrastructure) under windows 10 gathering all the softwares we need. But I prefer the physical desktop machines because interfaces are smoother than the one’s through vdi. But I recognize that 13 inch display can be painful for eyes when focusing on details.
Thank you for sharing your experience! :)
Aren’t there compatibility problems with mechanical engineering applications?
What mouse would you recommend
When she said size 😂 , feels size matters everywhere .
Good content.❤
My first laptop was a Dell .... I really love it 🤩... Now I have a ThinkPad... Would you trade your dell precision with my Lenovo ThinkPad? 😛
Deal! 😜
Well I have got a Lenovo ideapad L3 which in the beginning was not what I really wanted !
But I empowered it ! it is a 15 inch one !
with a 1T HDD,
RAM : 4GB + 4GB ( I added myself )
1 Kingmax PCI SSD 256 GB !
and Now it works very well and is trully enlightened! I have installed a lot on it ! any design-platform you may use in Mechanical engineering
i was looking at this one, all you had to do was install extra ram and it ran fine for most things? i just need it for light coding right now because i’m only in my first year
Can u tell the lap with all of ur configuration u have said .? Brand name ?
Sure! My work laptop is a Dell Precision 5540, in university I had an Asus Zenbook (not sure which exact model) which I was pretty happy with, and two other laptops I recommend for mechanical engineering are the latest generations of the HP ZBook Studio and the Lenovo Thinkpad P1.
What is the best laptop for mechanical engineer in new model
Is Ryzen7 integrated graphics enough for mechanical engineering ?
Hi Anna, I am a Mechanical Engineer. I will begin my masters studies in France on Erasmus+ Scholarship. I will hopefully be using Python, MATLAB and 3D modelling and simulation software but I have tight budget of around 750$. Which laptop do think would be good for me in this range. I have found a laptop (Dell Vostro 3520 i7 12th gen, 8gb ram, 512 SSd, 2 gb nvdia MX550 graphics card, 15.6" display with WVA technology). Please share your opinion on this laptop. Thanks.
Did you end up buying this laptop? I’m thinking of getting dell xps 15, but am not too sure 😊
What about ubuntu/Linux as operation system?
Is better to use gamming laptop for mechanical engineer ? If it so , can u pls recommend me a good one ?
You could use a gaming laptop for mechanical engineering but you're likely gonna be overspending on the GPU since the graphics are a lot more important for gaming than for computer aided design and other mechanical engineering programs. So I would go for a decent graphics card but nothing unnecessarily good.
My Daughter is starting University majoring in Civil Engineering. Any suggestions for a laptop?
What is the series of asus zenbook
Thanks a million for the advice
I was thinking Mac was better 😂
Happy to help!
The only engineers that profit from macs are SW engineers. Everyone else is better off with windows machines. I hope devs start developing more stuff for macs because those laptops are realy next level.
Ich habe aufgehört, MAC zu verwenden und bin zu Dell XPS gegangen - Ihre Präsentation ist ausgezeichnet
Really great video. But i want to ask more, does the screen need to be 100% srgb ?
Third year mech e student here. This is my second time going through this laptop search as my dell xps 15 9500 recently quit life on me for the second time. Already replaced the motherboard on the device for $300 and with it quitting again I decided I’d rather fork out the money for a new more reliable laptop rather than gamble on this one. It was only 2 years old and I’m writing to say go with a Microsoft laptop instead the xps reliability is a joke imo
Which laptop do you recommend? I was thinking of getting the dell xps 15, but I’m on the fence 😊
I have an asus tuf gaming and it's been ok for me
Hi do you think Dell - G16 16" Gaming Laptop - Intel Core i9 - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 - 32GB Memory - 1TB SSD is enough for a student studying graphic design and industrial design?
Did you buy it?
please help me for buying a good laptop
Hey guys, I just bought a macbook pro for mechanical engineering because my old windows laptop keeps crashing. Should I return it and get xps 15 instead ? Please reply and lemme me know.
What did you end up doing?
how do you manage to survive in a men dominant field? both while studying and working.
thanks in advance
With dad jokes and noise cancelling headphones 😉
But jokes aside, for work I would only consider joining teams that have other women in them. From my experience, the more balanced the team, the less gender matters and the more we can just focus on the engineering. And at school I wouldn't worry about it as long as there's a couple of other women since we tend to stick together and support each other 🙂
And finally, even if you get told otherwise, remind yourself that you belong and that you're just as capable 🔥
@@theannareich just started off college and I only have one other girl in my class, it feels awful. Hope it gets better with time.
What about Apple macboom 15 inch come with 6gb graphics card
For ME don't buy any apple laptops
Apple are not meant for streaming on live, many of STEM applications nor FEM analysis simulation or geared toward many mechanical engineers.
If money was not an issue what would you say is the dream laptop to get as a mechanical engineer?
I'd say the newest HP ZBook Studio or Lenovo Thinkpad P1 :)
Specced out i9 macbook pro 16. Run bootcamp but also have mac os
@@theannareich Love my ThinkPad P1 G4, noisy beast when plugged into a monitor and the A4000 is used but such a great workhorse. Have a M1 Max MBP although AutoCAD for Mac isn't great...
@@theannareich what about hp spectre x360
which laptop is the best for watching movies and youtube content?
