It took me a while to wrap my head around that they were Scottish. Really good too. There are a ton of bands and players/singers from Scotland that you would have thought came from there. My wife is from there so I got the lowdown. lol.
My favorite Scottish funk band!
The Average White Band (also known as AWB) are a Scottish funk and R&B band that had a series of soul and disco hits between 1974 and 1980. They are best known for their million-selling instrumental track "Pick Up the Pieces", and their albums AWB and Cut the Cake.
They hail from Scotland, The Mighty AVERAGE WHITE BAND! These White boys bring'in da Funk to ya!
Seventies Scottish R&B/Funk. This song went to #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in early '75, finishing 20th overall for the year. Their horn section was known as The Dundee Horns. SCHOOL BOY CRUSH and CUT THE CAKE are a couple more of my favorites.

The saxophone is technically a "woodwind" as it requires a reed to play like the clarinet, and the Oboe... On contrary to rule though, the flute is also woodwind because all flutes were originally made out of wood/bone but let's behonest nobody wants to say they play the bonewind...
Drummer Steve Ferrone's played on many a hit record, including."Higher Love" (Stevie Winwood) "I Feel For You" (Chaka Khan) and even Tom Petty. To me, AWB was the best band to ever come from Scotland

I remember when they played this song for the first time on a L.A. Radio show back in the 70's. Everybody called in and said play this song again by James Brown and the JB's. That is when they said the name of the band was Average White Band from Scotland, I was like WHAT!!! Been a fan ever since.
Seriously my all time favorite song! !! I live in Milwaukee, so we have Summerfest. It's the world's largest music festival. See them outdoors with a cold beer., live is amazing!❤
These reactions never get old, neither does the music, it's timeless, I am 57 now and love this generation commenting on music my gen grew up on, I never thought about the worf average in there name, just accepted this as the name of the group, I wonder if it was scottish sarcasm, they made some great music

Love AWB! You should react to School Boy Crush and Cloudy, two of my favorites by them! The funky Scots have always been one of my favorite bands of all time!
A great Jass Funk band and they are British, Scottish in fact, we Brits love our Jazz/funk/R&B too.
Hamish Stuart is hilarious in his kilt and full Scot getup. This band was/is great, either live or in-studio. I've been lucky enough to have seen them about four times.

Their song A Love of Your Own created many many people. It is the definition of sonic sex. Deangelo’s untitled comes very close. 2 of the original dudes I got to see live. So worth it. Btw, the drummer became Tom petty drummer in the 90-his death

This was another, basically, instrumental sond that got a lot of airplay back in the seventies. Another being "Frankenstein" by the Edgar Winter Group.

I used to go to a little French restaurant where they served Escargot which is snails cooked in garlic butter and if you can get the first one down you would love them. They are the most delicious thing when cooked just right.

I have always been a fan of Funk and AWB in particular. You must do more of their music. After that you need to check out the all girl funk band called Tokyo Groove.

Great sound though the best of that era with hit after hit was Blood, Sweat, And Tears with Spinning Wheel, You Made Me So very Happy, And When I Die. Another fantastic band with a great brass and woodwind section was Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes with We’re Havin’ a Party, Trapped Again, Love On The Wrong Side of Town,Talk to Me, Fever, and All I Want is Everything.Both if you will go crazy for their sound.

Each to his/her own but I prefer Scottish bands Big Country, Simple Minds, The Waterboys and Skids to AWB. However, due to the comments here I'll dig a little deeper into its catalogue.
The Scottish guy in the kilt is Hamish Stewart. He played with Paul McCartney and Wings for years after AWB broke up.

Video is nice but the original studio album version is better. I remember when AWB first hit the radio. It was like the whole neighborhood went "Who is THAT?" They and KC brought blue eyed soul to the forefront in the mid 70s.
