I dig the fact that nto only does Dave actually KNOW what the hell's in his rig, but how it works and how it's wired....the mark of a TRUE "profrssional musician". Lots of guys reach a certain level of success, and completely forget what the hell they're using or REQUIRE a tech to sort it out.
hahahaha, he's my god: "this amp was especially for me as a dave mustaine signature model that there are considering to introduce, if not, they're all mine and you can't have any" Hahahahahaa, what a genius.
I bet it would be hard to be his guitar tech. Dave knows exactly what he wants his guitar to sound like. It's awesome to see a guitarist care so much about his sound quality
Dave Mustaine is such a hero of mine. we've both been through very simuliar things in life such as prescription abuse as well as David Ellefson. Dave has been to rehab over 15 times which is insane & you'd think someone who has gone that many times is a hopeless case but he finally beat it. & then being kicked out of metallica in which he could have packed it in & gave up or just been noted as a founding member of metallica like bassist Ron Mcgovney of metallica who isn't a bad guy by any means & has done well for himself but when Dave Mustaine was canned & on that bus ride home he was already on a mission & saw the name megadeth & it started from there. it happened for a reason obviously, I couldn't imagine not having megadeth music. ][v][EGADET][-]['s music is so much more complex than Metallica's music but we are very fortunate to have both bands. I don't understand why Dave was so bitter for so many years because here you had a guy who bounced back pretty dam quickly after metallica kicked him out, it's not like Dave went onto form a mediocre band, megadeth is in the big 4.
Dave is a Marshall guy through and through. He may screw around with other gear every now and then, like this video, but eventually he always returns to Marshall. When I think of Dave Mustaine I think of a King V into a Marshall. THAT'S Megadeth.
I love the way he's like "It's pretty self explanatory which is one of the things I love about the simplicity of using this amps" ....There's literally like a hundred cables going into that thing
My Jackson, Reference 50 is modeled after a Marshall, and the clean channel is Fender.I found that out after getting new, Legacy Tubes.I was over joyed.Great video.Dave is a great person to share.
Dave uses a Digitech GSP1101 into a Marshall EL34 100/100 monobloc amp for the live shows. Marshall JVM 410 in the studio. Watch the Dave Mustaine interview part one here on youtube. It's done by musician's friend. Dave talks about going back to Marshall after finding out the grass was not greener elsewhere.
@mmim4 They don't use heads cause they move around too much, so he has a separate preamp and poweramp nowadays. If you look on the newer video by harmonycentral where the techs talk about Dave Jr., Chris, and Dave's setups, you can see that some of them use different brands of preamp (e.g. digitech) and then separate power amps (Marshall in Chris and Dave's cases). Basically racks allow for power conditioners, switches for the guitars, processors/preamps, and poweramps, plus portability
@MajkeTiTvoje I have several different pieces of gear from several different companies. That still doesnt change the fact that the true sound comes from the player and his attitude while playing. Steve Vai said that mister man.
hard to say what countries he actually meant, but he isn't wrong. When your going to many different countries, continents, venues large and small. You never can be sure of clean power. And you cant take chances with your gear getting fucked. So a conditioner makes sense.Let alone having to last for hundreds of thousands miles in rough travel, temps ,humidly etc. Funny to hear a stool like you making comments.
if you read his autobiography, its shocking that a rockstar this big, whos done as much drugs as he has, hes probably as far down to earth as they come
@zealberg I caught that too. I think what he means is that Line 6 has taken the 67 Marshall and improved on it. Either that or he's stoned. Or maybe both. lol
@Dfiend92 i got an 5150 instead. before buying the 5150 i tried sooo many different amps, even some kranks (i think that rev plus one) and i found it a acid-sounding amp. the 5150 completely blow my mind. it's a fucking great amplifier, with a really devil sound. btw i payed my 5150 1000 dlls. more money (like more gain) doesn't mean a better amp. check out LAA custom, an italian artisan that make a handmade 100W head for 2000 euros and it's1000 better than a mesa rectifier that costs 2600 euros
@awsomejustin8 no the v he had was a bit smaller then his models he been playing before and he just didn't like that so he left and dean asked him to come
im glad he went back to analog after the united abominations saga. In my opinion digital effects and distortion build a wall for personality in ones playing. I would only use them for practicing, not live.
Went and listened to the United Abominations after this, out of curiosity.Great playing from Dave as always, but I thought the guitar sounded a little digital and trebley.
@freeridergarrett I read somewhere that he had said "After two successful years, I have decided to leave ESP guitars. This was a business decision and had nothing to do with the guitars or the manufacturing of the guitars, and I wish the staff of ESP, both in the USA and in Japan and Korea the very best of health and prosperity. Meanwhile, I am taking my Classic Metal V known formerly as a Jackson King V1 or an ESP DV8..."
that's why I like him just the comparison: Metallica Gear Tour... some fuckin guy is making the soundcheck and telling some things about the amplifiers.... Dave Gear Tour: Dave is telling everyting about his sound and his amplifiers... in person!!! he's just good...
When you get into an arena, there's so much natural reverb, that effects get washed out. It actually waters your tone down.In a big arena, a good straight signal will sound better. Let the sound man add what's needed.
Weird as it may sound, I've experienced on a few occasions digital models of classic tube amps and analog effects that actually sounds BETTER than the originals.
@jfgirard14 Well it was customized for Dave by Dave so to his ear it sounds better. I guess the marshalls were lacking in an area he felt he needed therefore he thinks it sounds better. Even if that's not true think about it: The line6 amps available to us normal people would never sound as good as the marshalls available to us. But if it's customized for an icon like Dave it probably is head and shoulders above any other line6 product.
Its all relative. I have heard people play tube amps and sound like crap, and other guys play solidstate stuff and sound amazing. I mix a Marshall tube amp with a solid state amp and use them in stereo and i have the tone I was looking for. But I do use amp sim pedals. Catalinbread and Joyo stuff.
@arcuz92 Actually I have played plenty of vintage amps. Vox, Fender, Marshall etc and they sound great, especially old Vox amps. But for rock music an old Marshall with fresh tubes and a shit load of volume will throw any Line 6 off the boat.
youd be suprised, people give line 6 a bad rep because of the spyders. which for there cost arent bad amps , but for a pro they arent good enough , so pro's critisize the company as a whole for that , outside of the spyder line almost everything they make sounds amzing. listen to the pod hd 500 it sounds almost as good as the axe fx ultra and costs way less !
@Dfiend92 oh please don't say bullshit! that acid-sound krank cannot be compared to that 5150. the 5150 is one of the most evil sounding amplifier and it's simply awesome. more gain doesn't mean a better amp.
@Slears You obviously don't know what you're talking about. This is a very high end line 6. The people on Ultimate Guitar, snobs, and haters think all L6 are Spiders, which are the low end models.
Wow, he is like the first guitarist I have seen a video of that actually understands how all of his gear works...
"They're five times lighter and they sound better"
Goes back to using the same marshall products 2 years later.

I bet it would be hard to be his guitar tech. Dave knows exactly what he wants his guitar to sound like. It's awesome to see a guitarist care so much about his sound quality
Honestly did not expect him to be that down to earth. He seems awesome :)

Sudsy Sutherland you've been through David Ellifson abuse as well? I'm sorry to hear that bro
Dave is a Marshall guy through and through. He may screw around with other gear every now and then, like this video, but eventually he always returns to Marshall.
When I think of Dave Mustaine I think of a King V into a Marshall. THAT'S Megadeth.
It's always amazing to see comments from 8-12 years ago on a video.
Excellent video. Very concise. Thank you for uploading it.
He seems like such a nice guy! I recon he'd be great to have a beer with.
I love the way he's like "It's pretty self explanatory which is one of the things I love about the simplicity of using this amps"
....There's literally like a hundred cables going into that thing
My Jackson, Reference 50 is modeled after a Marshall, and the clean channel is Fender.I found that out after getting new, Legacy Tubes.I was over joyed.Great video.Dave is a great person to share.
Moral of the story. Play everything you can and pick what sounds best to you.
He sure isn't bought and paid for to say each company he uses is the Best brand ever... lol.
Thanks Dave , very cool.
sounds like a really nice guy. great video
Dave you endorse everything.
But you're an amazing guitar player and you obviously know your stuff.
the sound of the amps sounded much better this year then they did back when i saw them in 08
Indeed. A fucking solid ass record. Very underrated.
@jessewalker17 He's actually using an Axe-FX processor along with marshall power amps.
while hes talking to the camera, you see me in the background jacking that 5150 and krank amp
@MajkeTiTvoje I have several different pieces of gear from several different companies. That still doesnt change the fact that the true sound comes from the player and his attitude while playing. Steve Vai said that mister man.
I love how much he bad mouths Marshall here, and now he's back to using those Marshall El34 100/100 power amps.
@Sean2592 yeah i also wonder what he uses the krank for , the 5150 is probably one of the best heads ive ever played, so much bass and gain!
5150!
the guys such a dude!
"the voltage regulation is questionable at best" coming from an american is hilarious...
hard to say what countries he actually meant, but he isn't wrong.
Oh, believe me, this actually can happen even in France or other European countries.
@@cutsrosescents4950 Yes, I have seen this happen right in front of me. That band still managed to make the show interesting 😄
i saw another interview with him and broderick and he talked about the same incident there too, but i didnt catch the name
omg those gears talk !! :D
"They are all mine and you cant have any"
Nice guy, would love to know the brand of pedal board he is talking about, possibly Trailer Trash i wonder?
You know Meshuggah? One of the most complex and intricate Metal groups out there and they use Line 6 tube heads.
What do you all think about the Line 6 stuff?? And why were there a Krank and a 5150 in the background???
@Cyanide5151 He didn't say they sound more like the Marshalls than the Marshalls, he just said they sounded better. Could mean anything.
Dave and Chris are both on AxeFX last I saw.
if you read his autobiography, its shocking that a rockstar this big, whos done as much drugs as he has, hes probably as far down to earth as they come
really fairly simple then what i thought it would be. I wonder what he uses that 5150 for? anyone know
a man who knows his rig
power amps are tube, digital preamp. he dropped line 6, but its still that way.
@zealberg I caught that too. I think what he means is that Line 6 has taken the 67 Marshall and improved on it. Either that or he's stoned. Or maybe both. lol
So if I understand, his live rig is solid state? It uses amp emulation?
@Dfiend92 i got an 5150 instead. before buying the 5150 i tried sooo many different amps, even some kranks (i think that rev plus one) and i found it a acid-sounding amp. the 5150 completely blow my mind. it's a fucking great amplifier, with a really devil sound. btw i payed my 5150 1000 dlls. more money (like more gain) doesn't mean a better amp. check out LAA custom, an italian artisan that make a handmade 100W head for 2000 euros and it's1000 better than a mesa rectifier that costs 2600 euros
btw the footswitcher he mentions where he doesnt wanna name was a switcher designed by bradshaw.
actually that's incorrect. it's actually designed by Kenny Hickey.
I am not really either. I just love the "Bendability" of the tone, If you will.
Went and listened to the United Abominations after this, out of curiosity.Great playing from Dave as always, but I thought the guitar sounded a little digital and trebley.
@Aquaboy99 so he vacillates?
whats the song in the begining???
Damn guitar one, I had forgotten about them lol.
music at the beginnng? (:
lol "but if not its mine and you cant have any"lmao he cracks me up
"if not, they're all mine and you cant have any xp !"
@freeridergarrett I read somewhere that he had said "After two successful years, I have decided to leave ESP guitars. @bigbiggedybigman He never hated ESP, its just that Dean gave him a better deal
What amp is the other line 6 is it the same?
Probably. Used as a backup I guess
haha i love him
Dave is great, but can he possibly get any more plugs in?
Weird as it may sound, I've experienced on a few occasions digital models of classic tube amps and analog effects that actually sounds BETTER than the originals.
oohh ooohhhh I see 5150 and Krank!!!!
"They're all mine and you can't have any!" 0:58

@Smit2k11 Me too!
when was this?
Noobie question, what goes into a rack?
You wanna get a Megadeth sound use Randall or Blackstar. Settings - Bass: 5 - Mid: 3 - Treble: 6
Whats wrong with Line 6?
line 6? i was really not expecting a line 6 amp from Dave
im lost on all this stuff why dont they use an amp head and cabinets?
IF DAVE PLAYS LINE 6s THEN I SHOULD TOO! :D
Is he gonna play Stonehenge?
Dave uses marshall pre amps again. He left line 6 a long time ago.
LOL Dave doesnt even use Line6 anymore. He says there were not "road worthy" and he had to many issues with them touring. Hes back with Marshall.
3:12 BIP ! XD
@xavierf1979 yeah, but not too much beer... haha
when you're an endorsee, you generally enhance your company ^^.
keep it simple... i like that dave, just like van halen...
@zealberg modeled on a 67 marshall not a copy of it!
@bigbiggedybigman
Honestly, if Jackson wasn't bought out by Fender, he'd probably would still be with them.
@arcuz92 Actually I have played plenty of vintage amps. Vox, Fender, Marshall etc and they sound great, especially old Vox amps. But for rock music an old Marshall with fresh tubes and a shit load of volume will throw any Line 6 off the boat.
You can have all the fancy amps, effects and shit in the world but at the end of the day it still wont beat a vintage Marshall.
youd be suprised, people give line 6 a bad rep because of the spyders. which for there cost arent bad amps , but for a pro they arent good enough , so pro's critisize the company as a whole for that , outside of the spyder line almost everything they make sounds amzing. listen to the pod hd 500 it sounds almost as good as the axe fx ultra and costs way less !
Sounds better than a Marshall hes says...yet its modelled after a 1967 Marshall lol
+Brian Jones are you joking
He's a Marshall guy himself.
meshuggah use line 6, and their tone is incredible.
pedophilepete333 they use randall now
@MetalGivesUWings love ur name and its more a matter of preference, like how i PREFER Line 6 over Marshall
@Dfiend92 oh please don't say bullshit! that acid-sound krank cannot be compared to that 5150. the 5150 is one of the most evil sounding amplifier and it's simply awesome. more gain doesn't mean a better amp.
@thojyout23 good thing he vacillates
The grass not being greener elsewhere aren't my words they're Dave's in the video I referenced. It's youtube dot com/watch?v=hK6ov8yxZ7A
@Cyanide5151 "modelled ... with some other plug ins"
done
@Slears You obviously don't know what you're talking about. This is a very high end line 6. The people on Ultimate Guitar, snobs, and haters think all L6 are Spiders, which are the low end models.
@samlefreak you havent tried out many amps then :P
marshall, mesa, engl, and line 6. there are other great ones but they just take the top
@MajkeTiTvoje I wouldnt know. I dont do it. But I dont waste time knowing all the technicalities of all my shit either. I just play it.
@Cyanide5151 it may be modeled but they wont sound exactly ecactly alike
