yeah haha.. i love Megadeth and Dave was a massive influence on me but he did it all .He did everything he could to sell more records .Including writing poppier songs. I love Countdown it is my favorite Megadeth album and idont think he simplified things or slowed them down on that record to sell more albums but Youthenthanasia was even further in that direction as we Cryptic and by Risk well....When it didnt work for him he got really bitter i believe. This was when he went back to his roots more. I believe that e ven though Slayer had no radio hits the reason they have been able to sell more records is because they never changed to gain more popularity .Even Diabolus which people called their "Nu metal record" was not that much of a departure from their older stuff.
Don't care what anyone says...this guy, Tony Iomi and early Hettfield are the greatest rhythm players/riff men ever. id have to put Dave number 1...he's influenced so many people and written some of the greatest riffs that'll ever be written in the metal/speed metal / thrash genres
he is indeed a riff master and he may no be a shredder but his style of rhythm playing is very intricate.Nobody ; not even Mustaine; can downpick quite like him. There are differences in their playing style and James relies a little more on downpicking where as Dave seems to do a bit more alternate picking
***** wtf? The thing that should not be , is one of Hetfield's simplest songs and itsd still a great riff but dint forget about Master of Puppets, One , etc (i just woke up so i am foggy) . But listen man, you calling hus riffs "stock" proves nothing. The dude is factually on a plane of his own in terms of rhythm playing and he has written some really memorable riffs along the way. He is revered by players such as DImebag ,Mick Thomson (slipknot) and even Gary Holt has mentioned Hetfiled as being the best downpicker period as has Dime who also said Master of Puppets was an album that changed his style and approach forever . Many players mention that album when talking about rhythm/'riff playing . . James is a phenomenal metal rhythm player and his riffs have touched millions upon millions . That is way more than i have achieved as a player and i am sure none of his detractors have done what he has done . There are great riffers out there , Tony Iomi , Jeff Hanneman (also very underrated as songwriter) even Page (who i am not a big fan of) and heres the deal ; Iommi and Page play very simple riffs but they are catchy and have groove and a lot of nuance . Trey Azagthoth (who was inspred by Kill em all) from Morbid angel is another master riffer/rhythm player . his riffs are super inttricate in many instances , yet there is groove to his playing . All of these players and James (as well as Mustaine) have created stylistically something their own, and they have written some great fucking riffs that millions love and so if you or the next cat say they are "stock" then so be it ..
I'd put my man Bill Kehiller up there too, dude is a riff factory. But I believe he's a huge Metallica fan, so there ya go. I totally get the hate for Metallica, they've made some bad decisions and they're very mainstream which puts die-hard metal fans off in a big way, plus the whole pirated music debacle. But you can't deny their talent, that's just childish.
Dave's performances vary a lot. I used to be a huge Megadeth fan but the magic stopped for me. He still has great performances but some are so bad that I stopped watching Megadeth live videos 3 years ago.
+xXAscendingPhoenixXx Jealous, condemning?lol not really, in fact hes one of my idols, I'm just stating facts, he did say a Line 6 is better than Marshall on camera, not sure if Marshall know about this after giving him this deal but i bet they wouldn't be happy with him slagging off their company specially when they are the ones who are putting food on the table for him.
He's known for speaking without thinking first, my guess is he wanted a Mustaine Signature with Marshall long ago and they declined. Angry response follows, I'd like to see this video for laughs. Dave brought me to Marshall, they owe him too and he got it.
I'd like it if the artists wrote the tab books. Like Mustaine should do the tabs for all his music and then have someone publish them. I'd prefer that than some guy listening to the record trying to figure it out. Also, with the artist doing it, we'd know exactly how they played it, i.e. what fret/string.
i just saw the differnces with dave's face, if you watch on 2010 you will see he had changed a lot, in one year but respect for dave he has been through a lot and he didn't gave up.
I am a fan one of the biggest fans they are. I do not have the albums and merch to prove it anymore, but I can remember when these guys played crate blue voodoo and use line 6.
I think thats quite common, since most tabs out there are mistaken in a lot of ways. Funnily enough, I've never used a tab for this one, just my ears, and I got it right. Dave is so right here, trust your ears and not the tabs.
dont confuse me, im a bigger fan of dave and his work in megadeth, but this is the first time i see him playing good and with a nice sound in a interview
most quiet amps = DIEZEL... You can crank the gain without a noise gate and it is VERY quiet. If there is any noise in a Diezel, you have bad wiring on your guitar or a bad 12ax7 in the amp.
LOL Dave blaming Nirvana on him switching amps and wearing flannel. That was Dave's choice to wear flannel in 1992. Also Megadeth's best tone was Rust in Peace which was Bogner and VHT.
Everyone was wearing flannel in the 90s... lol Found an old Christmas video, and EVERYONE got at least 1 item that was flannel. Almost everyone was wearing it too. It had all of us that were watching it laughing. I didn't notice it then, but I am now convinced stores sold nothing but flannel. ha
Ending scared the shit outta me
Right?! I had not a clue that the video was coming to an end, then SD:LFKJSDFP that happened.
Even though I was prepared it still scared me!
+Yavuz Erol rip headphones users, i was one of them xc
A bomb got dropped on the studio.
Lmao
Hate him or love him, the guy is a legend! Been a fan for a long time. Love Megadeth!
I definitely hate him, but he makes great music
IMO and to clarify nobody asked, megadeth is the goat
@@GabrielTAsher you personally know him?
I saw Megadeth 2 weeks ago, amazing...I always have the best time at Megadeth gigs.🤘
funny thing is, he did wear flannel in the 90's.
+Joe P yeah he also said the industry washing pushing for it
and, had a goatee :D
back in CTE days
ok, "goatee" :P

Mustaine is a beast...out of the big four in my opinion always wrote the most difficult songs.
Its like someone just kicked the side of their PC really hard when they decided this video was over. Thank you for that
Mike Rogers 😂😂
this was hilarious. love how dave is so chill and just talks like a normal dude. he gets it
Dave has always been and will always be a FUCKING BEAST.
0:33 the fakest laugh ever...poor guy would have died if he didnt laugh
David Luiz ...mustaine can be very scary sometimes 😐
Lol I got scared for him
aheheheh... yea.

Josh Pelton amazing comment man. Thanks for the write up
I’d say Dave is a better composer, but hetfield is the king of rhythm
I'd put my man Bill Kehiller up there too, dude is a riff factory. But I believe he's a huge Metallica fan, so there ya go. Mustine is the ultimate package. The greatest rhythm guitar player and one of the best lead guitarist. ❤
man i just love Dave's guitar tone. It's just so original and smooth..
*Here it is 2021 and Dave looks better than ever and he just beat cancer..this man is a red headed legend!*
I really admire Dave Mustaine ❤
So do I!
If you have headphones, take care with last second of the video!
So im not the only one that the end scared the shit outta me
Dave knows his stuff. A sober mind is sharp. Good dude.
7:18 that's some guitar playing
+Albee213 and he used to sing playing that.
+Stoned Mcgee still does, the hell you mean used to
+themetalbutt Now he Mickey Mouses to it
+Alex Dattel lol no. go watch some live shows from this year
Dave's performances vary a lot. I used to be a huge Megadeth fan but the magic stopped for me. He still has great performances but some are so bad that I stopped watching Megadeth live videos 3 years ago.
Dave is such an under rated guitarist.. He may not be the fastest or best lead player .. But his rhythm and sound is just beast.
underrated???????????????? hell no hes a god
Its amazing how Dave got his own amp with Marshall considering he said a line bloody 6 sounded better than them on camera lol
Harry Callahan It's because they do unless you're trying to play AC/DC or some Allman Bros.
+Harry Callahan I see you often on Megadeth videos condemning either the band or Dave. You must be a very jealous and angry kid huh?
+xXAscendingPhoenixXx
Jealous, condemning?lol not really, in fact hes one of my idols, I'm just stating facts, he did say a Line 6 is better than Marshall on camera, not sure if Marshall know about this after giving him this deal but i bet they wouldn't be happy with him slagging off their company specially when they are the ones who are putting food on the table for him.

Dave brought me to Marshall, they owe him too and he got it.
Dave says a lot of shit lol. And business is business, it's not like they do signature gear out of kindness.
Dave is legendary.
"the first 8 notes" *plays 15...
That “kick the chair” riff!!
That was some beautiful ear rape at the end
I fucking love Mustaine
Thanks for the love, it means a lot…where are you from?
North Carolina
@@kellybeane7546 nice, how’s the weather like over there and how long have you been a fan?
Dave is such a Cool guy. What a Talent!
Ashes in your mouth, and Kick the chair are 2 of my faves. + 99ways to die were excellent examples you don't get to hear like Holy Wars.
Dave looking amazing here, now it s 2019 , so ten years after he s old man, father time dont gives anyone a pass!
nope, it happens quick
"Time waits for no one. Not even me."
Dave Mustaine
Unless you’re Paul Rudd
Dave Mustaine has been ‘my ni@@a’ since 1986.
I love that man.
Theres no way he cant like zzTop. He has that riff swagger..JUST METAL STYLE. NO DOUBT. Daves a fucking RIFF GOD LEGEND.
I love when he disses the interviewer at around 2:00 and the guy just takes it
I'd like it if the artists wrote the tab books. Like Mustaine should do the tabs for all his music and then have someone publish them. I challenge anyone to outplay DAVE good luck
i just saw the differnces with dave's face, if you watch on 2010 you will see he had changed a lot, in one year but respect for dave he has been through a lot and he didn't gave up.

Best metal rhythm player in existence.
DAVE IS made of METAL
That song you are asking about is called "Crown Of Worms" it is a bonus track on the remastered Countdown to Extinction cd
Very intelligent man.. a massive legend and so eloquent
No wonder why walked away from clowns Metallica
Daves the boss of guitar playing.
Dave sported a goatee and wore flannel in the late 90's :D
beautiful riffs
YES, KICK THE CHAIR
Dave the thrash metal god!!
He knows how to make the sponsors feel good about having him on his side
I am a fan one of the biggest fans they are. I do not have the albums and merch to prove it anymore, but I can remember when these guys played crate blue voodoo and use line 6.
at the ending of the video i though i was getting a blue screen D:
fuck that tone is a monster!
daves awesome
Dave Mustaine was wearing fucking flannel at almost every interview when countdown came out lol.
Dave Mustaine Rocks!
David Curtis Drumming
When I played thrash metal in Los Angeles, I played through a 4100 JCM 900, with a 1960 slant cab & a JCM 900 bottom.
For thrash metal its great.
where I see Dave Mustaine I gave him one ''LIKED''!!!!!
Dave is awesome
Dave's awesum!!
Super Dave!!
Crown of Worms
Fucking Mustaine hes Old Now But Still Fucking Goodlooking Handsome Guy Like Me.. Love U Dave with all my heart!
Dave was playing the Rocktron Prophesy II for a while around 2004 time frame in case anyone is wondering when he strayed from Marshall heads.
the end was EPIC
when I play palm-muting it totally goes:" hhhhhhuuuuurrrr"
I think thats quite common, since most tabs out there are mistaken in a lot of ways. Funnily enough, I've never used a tab for this one, just my ears, and I got it right.
Dave is so right here, trust your ears and not the tabs.
Dave is the dad I’ve always wanted lol😂 but my dad still likes metal so he’s pretty cool
The boss, complete musician.
dave mustaine is GOD \,,/
dont confuse me, im a bigger fan of dave and his work in megadeth, but this is the first time i see him playing good and with a nice sound in a interview

And your wise men don't know how it feels........
Wow, that was a great video. Interesting info on the guitar.. That was cool.. Thank You for sharing this one.. ; )
I remember selling my 4 marshall bass cabs in 1997 so I could buy a hartke Stack.
the end of the video was like a jumpscare for me
the end scared the crap out off me
@IShadow90 It's actually Crown Of Worms, a bonus track off the remastered Countdown To Extinction album
DAVE FTW
The ending scared the living shit out of me. Btw Dave is a badass
Dave was rocking a flannel look in the early 90s.
holyyyyy shittttt that green thing scared the crap out of me
dude what? for closure of a dream Dave you are sporting a goat t and wearing flannel
KING
Good interview!
99 ways to die is one of megadeth's best!
I don't care what anyone says, Mustaine is a fucking God!
most quiet amps = DIEZEL...
You can crank the gain without a noise gate and it is VERY quiet.
If there is any noise in a Diezel, you have bad wiring on your guitar or a bad 12ax7 in the amp.
The Kick The Chair riff is almost the same as the riff from Polaris, trademark Mustaine.
Affliction. They have them at this store called the Buckle.
I think that is what he was referring to in the early 90s. Sounds like there was label pressure to do that.
nothing like a marshall huh dave she just talks to ya thats why i got one with tubes cause i like it to scream \m/
dave was the voice of the youth american angst.
The end was painful
LOL Dave blaming Nirvana on him switching amps and wearing flannel. That was Dave's choice to wear flannel in 1992.
Also Megadeth's best tone was Rust in Peace which was Bogner and VHT.
@John Williams Dave doesn't like them. Look up "Dave Mustaine jokes about Kurt Cobain's death"
He had a goatee and wore flannels in 92’ hahah
This man was told he'd never play guitar again. These are facts.
Dean and flying V's really get that megadeth tone down.. They're the only guitars I've been able to get that crisp crunch tone from.. EMGz help also.
Everyone was wearing flannel in the 90s... lol
Found an old Christmas video, and EVERYONE got at least 1 item that was flannel. Almost everyone was wearing it too. It had all of us that were watching it laughing.
I didn't notice it then, but I am now convinced stores sold nothing but flannel. ha
Aliens at the end!
"We have no fear with anybody we play with..." Just like when he didn't wanted to play in the same festival as Dissection
dave taught james alot
I love the Helpless riff at 6:40 lol
Dave is a boss........
Jesus!! that noise at the nearly made me have a heart attack
