To sum it up in one word...WOW! It's so cool how technology has gotten us "backstage" to see this kind of stuff. I would have done anything to have this type of footage back in '89 on the Justice tour.
I recently got a Triaxis & 2:90. With the right cab(s) and right tubes in the Triaxis, it is just crushing. Actually sounds better than my Mark IIC++ which is my pride and joy. Worst first world problem ever.
Those Behringer Multigates any good? I'm thinking about getting one but haven't seen any helpful reviews. I want to use to cut out noise from my high gain and the noise my EQ puts in my signal without majorly loosing tone. But Hetfield and Lerxst both use one so they must be good.
hey i gotta question.. ive been playing on floyd rose bridges for a long time now as a lead player now i wanna switch to playing rhythem and i want a guitar with a good bridge that keeps the strings in tune. I dont really like the bridges that go throught the guitar i see theres some that have that bar on the bottom of pickups. anyone know a good bridge that i should look for when i go guitar shopping?
they're made for bass and it boasts 200 or 300 watts so its gotta be heavy, but those 6550 tubes in the strategy help give as much power without distorting. i wonder what the 2100 is like for the rec pre? or even better the mesa mark v?
some feedback. I needed a 4 CH(quad)gate processor for live shows for cleaning the tracks for the tom drums, at the time behringer multigate was the affordable unit, and so I took my chances. I must admit, it really works, it really makes a difference, one of the main reason is the Frequency trigger. it can be adjusted more or less to the fundamental frequency the each tom gives off for really great accuracy, im not saying its the best , but its still a good unit. Im still using it after 2 years
@loknloll yeah i get you and i have the same problem i always wanted to go drop D and back to standard like other guitars but with the rose its hell so im limited to only standard for the moment. but i love doin divebombs with my rose for my songs. yea u should make a video when u got time.
He might record with one, but he has toured with the mesa boogie triaxis preamp's for ages. They can get alot of different tones he just has his mids boosted super high these days.
@gmbob22 you gotta admitt tho , that is one of the best live distortion sounds you have everheard and trust me i seen then live like 3 weeks ago and it suits there live playing so much
yeah. they use triggers to open the gates on the toms and i assume the kicks too. Much more reliable than relying on audio thresholds to do it for you, and more consistent.
yeah the eet fuk one he did but he dont use it live anymore, he did use it for some of the recording on death magnetic also he used his flying v from the kill em all days for Judas Kiss what a badass song
all heads have a preamp and a power amp. he uses the preamps as extra flavor on top of the sound of the jc-120 and diezel. im not sure but i think thats how it is
@Quakelord1991 Its the amplifier see a normal combo amp or a head (like a normal practive amp or those diezel heads you can see in the vid ) have 2 stages the preamp stage were most of the tone comes from and the poweramp stage were it gets amplified. Some people use a preamp and a power amp instead of a head for greater flexability :) Sorry for any mistakes im Portuguese :P
theres more here for James/Kirk than i thought there would be, but i'd really be interested in seeing their studio stuff. Especially what James uses for an amp
Those are some pretty old Diezels as the VH4 has 2 knobs on the Volume and volume parallel loop on the far right today. And the VH 4S has 2 on both vol. vol para loop presence and deep, but i guess he's playing VH 4.
Try find the vid from TC Electronic where you see James's (and Kirks in another vid) rack where they are in Horsens Denmark June 6th 2012. Maybe you see some :)
I think they use a separate guy under the stage, or around the stage doing it for them. The only pedals used are expression pedals, me thinks. I could be wrong.
@blktues09 dude, i put a metal plate across the back of my guitar and screwed it into the part of the floyd where the springs go in the back. locked that fucker solid. still had my locking nut, the fine tuners on the floyd, but suddenly my 2nd ibanez was a total solid workhorse rythym guitar. if you ain't worried about looks, this is a really great option. you can palm mute on the bridge and competley solid.
To sum it up in one word...WOW! It's so cool how technology has gotten us "backstage" to see this kind of stuff. I would have done anything to have this type of footage back in '89 on the Justice tour.
"Checks out James Hetfields rack" sounds kinda weird
OMG!! that clean tone was beautiful but that distortion .... Ive just been saved!!! \m/
james' clean sound gives me goosebumps and the feeling of being on a metallica concert!
Kirk's Ouija and James' Grynch are two of the best looking guitars I have ever seen.
I recently got a Triaxis & 2:90. With the right cab(s) and right tubes in the Triaxis, it is just crushing. Actually sounds better than my Mark IIC++ which is my pride and joy. Worst first world problem ever.
Hey man I'll take that 2C++ if you're happy with the Tri ;)
Sorry. The ol' IIC++ has made a comeback as my main rig again since having left that comment. Mesa STR 415 and 416 power tubes are a beautiful thing.
raaaats.
I just got an Axe FX 2 and my favorite patch uses the 2C++. Sounds gnarly.
what tubes did you have in the triaxis?
That was the loudest show I've ever been to. Hope they come back to KC in the next couple years.
One of greatest guitar sounds in Metal, keep on kicking ass man!
that venue is EPIC
I have no idea what I'm watching... but I know it makes some awesome music happen.
Well, it's not everyday I hear something like that. Rock On DUDE!,
thanks ive been lookin for somethin like this.... James used the Mesa MKIIc+ during the and justice album but old mesa heads are hard to find
@Yowzow If its the esp, does the case saids truckster with a giant JH signature on the front?
i'm sorry if my english isn't correct, i'm from holland
Those Behringer Multigates any good? I'm thinking about getting one but haven't seen any helpful reviews. I want to use to cut out noise from my high gain and the noise my EQ puts in my signal without majorly loosing tone. But Hetfield and Lerxst both use one so they must be good.
That sound is perfect
that solo is tight. KING of the double kick!!!
TriAxis wow, haven't seen those in a while...were the hot thing in the 90's. Go James!
great sounds this guitar
@Jamsessionroom1337 You are absolutely right, and there are many others like Tosin who have a great tone and skill and are not very known.
hey i gotta question.. ive been playing on floyd rose bridges for a long time now as a lead player now i wanna switch to playing rhythem and i want a guitar with a good bridge that keeps the strings in tune. I dont really like the bridges that go throught the guitar i see theres some that have that bar on the bottom of pickups. anyone know a good bridge that i should look for when i go guitar shopping?
Sick video

so many awesome guitars! if i were in there, i would be in heaven!!!
he has a klon centaur, mxr phase 100 and line 6 dm4 in a pedal drawer did he use the centaur on magnetic?
some feedback. I needed a 4 CH(quad)gate processor for live shows for cleaning the tracks for the tom drums, at the time behringer multigate was the affordable unit, and so I took my chances. Something about arena shows is just awesome. Very powerful.
he used it on all nightmare long and suicide and redemption along with the gibson '73 iron cross les paul another badass hetfield guitar
i'm surprised he still brings his good 'ol explorers, awesome!
how does jame use the mesa amp switcher with the ground control and gcx???? i need help
Dawn, That distor guitar sound so pretty...
@loknloll yeah i get you and i have the same problem i always wanted to go drop D and back to standard like other guitars but with the rose its hell so im limited to only standard for the moment. but i love doin divebombs with my rose for my songs. yea u should make a video when u got time.
anyone know the name of the stompbox/effects thing the guy uses at the end?
@proclivity11 On many live shoots you get many close-ups to hes drums there you can see it?
He might record with one, but he has toured with the mesa boogie triaxis preamp's for ages. They can get alot of different tones he just has his mids boosted super high these days.
Love That Tribal SG u got There
omg it HUUUUUUGE i never thought so much could be in 1 place at 1ce!
@ProudUnicorn I suppose you're right. They are projecting to a very large crowd and don't want to sound crappy so it makes sense.
I love ALL of his Explorers... Especially his ESP's.
He's using it for the St.Anger songs. It's called ESP LTD Grynch. It's tuned down to C/ Drop C, depending on what James likes.
@joihna1997
It looks like a Voodoo Labs Ground Control footswitch. It is linked to his GCX Audi Switcher, also from Voodoo Labs.
@TheFlyers09 The Roland JC120 is a briliant amp, its famous for the Chorus and it has (in my opinion) the best clean of all transistors ive heard.
@DimeLivesInUs sounds like the beginning guitar for paradise city well the tone of it
Yeah, on Hetfield's there is a gain switch on the tone or volume knob. I don't have the guitar, but i saw it here on another video on UA-cam
@bkrbnr94 Its the footswitch for the GCX switching system
Was at that show
In my opinion, this was filmed in Helsinki, Finland... I was in the concert BTW ;) \m/
@gmbob22 you gotta admitt tho , that is one of the best live distortion sounds you have everheard and trust me i seen then live like 3 weeks ago and it suits there live playing so much
he's also using the best chorus amp you can get on this planet.
What pedal are he using? The olny thing i knows he is using is BOSS Super Chorus CH-1 and the MXR phase 100. What other pedals is he using?
@MyMetallica16 its an ESP truckster i think, so the LTD model is like 899
@krajnovic10 its mentioned in the description that the gig was in kansas city
so this is not so old tour, btw on dirty chanell they play just on ld2 with yellow one up, and fx loop ?
@tr0bal I think he only uses High-end LTDS such as 1000 series. It is he's signature Grynch limited to 260
wuts better the esp viper or esp explorer.. im tryin to decide wich 1 to get
yeah. they use triggers to open the gates on the toms and i assume the kicks too. Much more reliable than relying on audio thresholds to do it for you, and more consistent.
close enough lol and I love that show
Ouh damn i would love to work as James Guitar Technican!
That sounded soooooo BIG!!!!!!!
any one tell the model of that Shure wireless system? looks like a UR14D maybe, like an older one or something
@Masterfighterx Was referencing to Skwisgaar Skwigelf, he talks that way.

@AirgunAddict256 I went to one of there shows and they swung around and had stage lights and stuff on them.
yeah the eet fuk one he did but he dont use it live anymore, he did use it for some of the recording on death magnetic also he used his flying v from the kill em all days for Judas Kiss what a badass song

I love that guitar soooooooooooooo much
man thats sick
all heads have a preamp and a power amp. he uses the preamps as extra flavor on top of the sound of the jc-120 and diezel. im not sure but i think thats how it is
@Quakelord1991 Its the amplifier see a normal combo amp or a head (like a normal practive amp or those diezel heads you can see in the vid ) have 2 stages the preamp stage were most of the tone comes from and the poweramp stage were it gets amplified. Some people use a preamp and a power amp instead of a head for greater flexability :) Sorry for any mistakes im Portuguese :P
@MartyCannava It is he's ESP/LTD Grynch Signature there were only made 260
theres more here for James/Kirk than i thought there would be, but i'd really be interested in seeing their studio stuff. Especially what James uses for an amp
I love lars's drum solo at 1:40
great stuff!!
loool
Xdd
I would kill for that white ESP explorer with black hardware at 1:59...awesome
hetfield plays diezel amps too , my guitar dealer bought one of this tops and say its really great amp .
@Yowzow The Truckster or the Grynch?
Those are some pretty old Diezels as the VH4 has 2 knobs on the Volume and volume parallel loop on the far right today. And the VH 4S has 2 on both vol. vol para loop presence and deep, but i guess he's playing VH 4.
are his triaxises have the recto boardx and the phat mod?
What did he say before (like right before) Shure Wireless?
dude this really looks like "Vector Arena" in AUCKLAND
btw, the stage its exactly the same as the show in 13/oct/2010 Oo
im looking into getting a new guitar. i think i want an ESP. any ideas anyone?

Is this recorded from the globe in stockholm mars 7th 2009. I was there anyhow
man it sure would be nice to have some gear like that.
What shoulder strap is James using on his guitars?
on the first metallica album they used ProCo Rat distortion pedal
1:52-2:01 is my dream guitar!!!!
is there any difference between his and a regular LTD Viper, I mean besides the paint job.
theres a video of it on youtube somewhere he acctuly uses it
Try find the vid from TC Electronic where you see James's (and Kirks in another vid) rack where they are in Horsens Denmark June 6th 2012. Maybe you see some :)
@AirgunAddict256 durring master of puppets and some other songs, they move around and shine lights.
I think they use a separate guy under the stage, or around the stage doing it for them. The only pedals used are expression pedals, me thinks. I could be wrong.
So his distortion sound is the diezel+mesa boogie?
@blktues09 dude, i put a metal plate across the back of my guitar and screwed it into the part of the floyd where the springs go in the back. locked that fucker solid. still had my locking nut, the fine tuners on the floyd, but suddenly my 2nd ibanez was a total solid workhorse rythym guitar. if you ain't worried about looks, this is a really great option. you can palm mute on the bridge and competley solid.
@joihna1997 its so that they can change to different effect loops.
lol when he plugs the cable into the guitar it looks and sounds like he's loading a guns lol
