This video made me appreciate our emergency service even more. Thank you to our paramedics, firefighters, police officers and dispatchers. You guys are the best and that your work is greatly appreciated.
Dispatcher: 911 whats you’re emergency? Caller: So i... *ACCIDENTALLY* put my brother in the oven instead of cookies. Dispatcher: Is this a joke? Caller: I wish it was.
Being a 911 operator has to be one of if not the most difficult jobs out there. They must follow very strict guidelines for countless amounts of situations, stay 100% focused at all times, have to multitask with emergency responders and callers, deal with people calling in need of non-emergency, keep their caller as calm as possible, and most importantly, they have to listen the horrors of everything out there. They even have to listen to people on the phone one minute, and then hear their death. They are the last person some people ever talk to. Their job is tough mentally and emotionally. And if they fail in one of these areas, they got a legal case on their hands.
Thank you for recognizing the difficulties we face. But, it's not all bad. We also occasionally get to deliver babies, locate a lost and injured hiker, keep a suicidal caller talking long enough to get help to them, and much more. Even with all of the bad, it is still the best job on the planet.

No, officers do not have to respond in all cases, depending on what your local department's policy is. Some smaller jurisdictions will go to every call IF dispatch can get a location, which isn't a guarantee if it is a cell phone. Larger jurisdictions are too busy to do that, so there are parameters that they will & won't go under. As for location, if you're calling from a cell, we can try & retransmit the signal your phone is sending. Usually when you first call it is only hitting 1 cell tower, and the location we get is that of the tower and a distance from the tower, but no direction. I've had them "ping" 64 miles from the tower, so we definitely can't send officers to that, since it could be in any direction. If we can get the signal to hit 2 cell towers, we can get a much more accurate location, IF the towers can narrow the signal to a small enough area to search. It also depends on what is said or heard. For our departments, if it is an accident, we do not have to put a call for service in, UNLESS I dont like what I hear. If it sounds like a fight, the caller sounds awkward or pressured to cancel the call, anything, I will put a call in, if I get a valid location. There are VERY narrow parameters under which we can contact the cell carrier & request a ping. But it could be an option, depending on circumstances.

Operator: “911, What’s your emergency?” Woman: “I accidentally cooked my baby brother in the oven.” Operator: “Wait... You what?” Woman: “I cooked by baby brother in the oven. I was trying to make cookies.”
I've had to call 911 plenty of times, but I AM 911 (fire department) for the last 17 years. My brother is a 911 dispatcher for the last 11 years, as well as being a firefighter for 18 years, too. This video is correct. We understand that it is an emergency. We're trying to get to you as soon as we can to help. BUT, we can only help if we know where you are (please learn your roads around you, or look for street signs), the nature of the emergency (we know as much as you tell us!), and if any life threatening situation exists. Tell us what you can, because until we are on scene, we can only go by the relay of the dispatcher, who is talking to you, that is already at the scene. Remain as calm as possible. If you are panicking and sputtering words, the dispatcher won't be able to help us find you. And don't be afraid to call for little incidents either. The dispatcher will relay to us if we need to respond emergency or non emergency, depending on the level of severity of the incident. Obviously fires and wrecks with injuries get the highest response, as well as severe kinds of medical emergencies. We are here to help you, as well. We are not trying to hurt anyone, or make anyone's situation worse. Also, we feel empathy , too. We will sit with you, comfort you, cry with you, understand that things hurt or people's lives have been lost. If you feel like you're lost, alone, scared, or anything during or after an incident, give us a call (non emergency), stop by a station, or, if worried that self harm may occur, call 911 again. We want to protect as many lives as possible. Understand that we try everything we can to save all lives, but sometimes no matter what, things can happen that a life can end. We feel it, too, especially when we have tried to save that life, and do not. We're humans, too. We're not superheroes, superhuman, or anything of the sort. We just try to help others as much as possible.
You people are the heroes without capes. You help the people without expecting anything in return and rightfully so, since distressed people don't have much to give anyways. I have an immense respect for you all. Keep saving lives. Keep helping humans. Hats off to you
Former 911 operator here, Awesome video! I wish the public knew more about what goes on in these amazing communications facilities. A couple of things though, at least at my agency. Usually, the first question we ask is your location, then the nature of the emergency. We can get kinda close to where you are, but not always 100 percent correct. Also, we don't always stay on the line, unless it's necessary, as that tends to tie up other 911 lines. Again, a great video, just wanted to kind of give how my agency operated! Thank you guys for when making this!
Fun fact: This is really a sort of simplified version. Often, the call doesn't reach the right people. The call goes to whichever 911 center is associated with the cell tower/sector that your cellphone is connected to. It may or may not be the correct center - for example, you might need the city PD but your city doesn't take wireless 911 calls so the Highway Patrol answers first and then transfers the call, or you get connected to a tower that is in a different city or county and get routed to that city/county's dispatch instead. It is, therefore, important to know your location so that dispatch can ensure you're talking to the right person.
Likely a combination of that and the stated reason. 9-1-1 definitely not the quickest to dial, but very quick nonetheless and unlikely to be dialed accidentally.
can confirm, got into a car crash today (3/08/20) (thanking the Lord no one was hurt) and car was totaled, the only injury was a dislocation of the right humerus (right arm) and break of the right clavicle (right collarbone).
Me: calls 911 Me: "I just baked my brother on accident" Dispatcher: You know there are people dying and I'm stuck here with you? I'm sending police over right now. Police when they see the baby did get baked: Surprised pikachu face
Bálint Luczi this was an actual thing Happened in the US Some chick took LSD before a babysitting job and they had a turkey She put the turkey in the crib and the baby died, sadly
Probably because they had all the information they needed. Not all 911 centers have the personnel to stay on the phone until help gets there. Not all of them have the medical training to walk you through the Heimlick Maneuver. The call me back if anything changes would be so they can update ems if he loses consciousness, goes into cardiac arrest, etc. It's not because they don't care or do not want to do their jobs it's because of a lack of training that most 911 centers don't correct. Most of them are over looked and beaten down by their governing bodies. They lack the funding they need for equipment and training, because no one ever sees them, they are out of sight and out of mind until someone in power needs help. Even then they disappear from their minds after a few days/weeks.
didn’t dial but remember 2 times someone in my family had to call 911 1: I was sitting on my moms lap. I kindve slid down it and all i remember is screaming, panic, blame. 2: it was a day like any other when my grandma came up to me. to my dismay her heart rate was 106! she called 911 but thankfully she was ok and was only told to lay down.
who wrote this video: Any ideas for what I tell 9-11 the team members: say you put your brother in the oven who wrote the video: WRITE THAT DOWN, WRITE THAT DOWN !
The last time I called 911 was when my boyfriend and I were driving and someone decided to drive recklessly into the opposite lane (going the wrong way) and swerved in-front of us intentionally, nearly hit us head on, swung into a drive-thru, got food, and drove around way more recklessly. I told my boyfriend to go through the drive-thru so I could get his license plate and call 911 so we did and we pulled into the next parking lot to call. We were both shaking and while we were on the phone with the dispatcher, the car comes flying out of another opposite lane after crossing the two correct lanes and spinning back around another car then sped down the dirt side road right in front of us! It was WILD.

911 operator: 911 what’s your emergency
Person on the phone: I need help robbing a store
*Comes to Help u*
I’ve wanted to know ever since I accidentally called 911
Former 911 operator here,
Awesome video!
She just like grabs her baby brother and is like done.

_You ever just mistake a human child for a batch of cookies_
Yes kids, 911 was not made because of 9/11
XD
The terrorist did not want you to forget that day. So, that’s probably why they used that date because that date will remind you of an emergency.

Its actually the reverse

Jacob Szczepankiewicz help I baked my baby in the oven
i thought they made it 911 because it’s the quickest number to dial on a rotary telephone
Likely a combination of that and the stated reason. 9-1-1 definitely not the quickest to dial, but very quick nonetheless and unlikely to be dialed accidentally.
Is all of this universal? As in does dispatchers work this way in all/most countries?
No the 911 number was implemented when the twin towers were attacked before that it was another number
@@voqzi5296 no it isn't universal. Number vary from country to country and I don't think every country has an emergency number but most do
@@martinmontagut2920 actually that's a complete myth. 911 was the number way before that. Wierd coincidence though.
can confirm, got into a car crash today (3/08/20) (thanking the Lord no one was hurt) and car was totaled, the only injury was a dislocation of the right humerus (right arm) and break of the right clavicle (right collarbone).
Me: calls 911
Me: "I just baked my brother on accident"
Dispatcher: You know there are people dying and I'm stuck here with you? I'm sending police over right now.
Police when they see the baby did get baked:

Police officer: 911 what’s you’re emergency?
Parent: well you see here I overcooked my son.....
When I called 911 cause my dad was choking, the dispatcher said “call me back if anything happens” and hung up
Elijah Mendez what why?
Did jelp arrive tho?
I have never had to call 911 bc I don't live in USA or Canada

didn’t dial but remember 2 times someone in my family had to call 911
1: I was sitting on my moms lap. I kindve slid down it and all i remember is screaming, panic, blame.
2: it was a day like any other when my grandma came up to me. to my dismay her heart rate was 106! she called 911 but thankfully she was ok and was only told to lay down.
who wrote this video: Any ideas for what I tell 9-11
the team members: say you put your brother in the oven

Just a Person ok
911 what's your emergency
Me: ahhh you see I kinda baked my little brother
How tf you ended up making cookies but puts your brother in the oven?
It's more relatable than you think... I speak for my sister.

Call goes to police

This is one of their better videos in my opinion a lot of their videos recently have been about stories or irrelevant knowledge but this one is quite informative about an important topic
