  • In this video I provide some tips on how to survive your first nursing core term at WCU! I talk about my experiences, what to expect, what to do, and what not to do!
First and foremost, what I say and what my views are, are in no way related to the views of West Coast University. I am just sharing my journey as a West Coast University student and what to expect as a nursing student. What I share and talk about has occurred during my term and you should not rely on my schedule to plan your own schedule (it may be very similar).
With all that being said, I currently attend West Coast University and am in the Accelerated Bachelor’s of Nursing Program. My expected graduation date is January 2021, which has been extended to April 2021 due to my attendance to the Oxford Honors Program in Summer 2020 (which I would love to vlog about!).
I am a full time nursing student who works per diem as a patient care assistant and loves to go to the gym and lift! I try my best to balance everything out, but find myself struggling with this. I share my journey as a nursing student mostly on instagram @kriziaann__

this was SO helpful! i appreciated these tips bc i literally start funds in june and i’ve been excited yet so nervous due to most of skills being online (we’re starting to do a hybrid style skills lab where we’re actually allowed on campus for 2-3 hours). i suppose covid-19 is just one hurdle that we will face during our careers as nurses!

I’ve seen that they were planning on doing hybrid style but didn’t know they were planning on doing it next term already! Having skills in person is way more fun in person! You’ll have an awesome time!!

This was great information, very helpful.
Can you give so info on what actually happens your first term? Like what occurs week 1? when does the med math test happen since it is your first term? Things like that.

Hello, I hope you’re doing well! I’m starting at WCU next month and I kind of wanted to start studying early and I was wondering if there’s anywhere I can find the notes or powerpoints for the classes in order to get ahead. Thank you so much for your help.

Did you have to retake the TEAS in your first year seminar course? Was it online or in person?

Hi! I love your videos! Im going to WCU first thing next year once I finish my prereqs. Can you make a video about time management while being in the absn program. Like is there really time for yourself to have any kind of social life? I’ve heard most don’t have time for anything but study. I’m not the best at time management and I want to prepare myself for it

Thank you so much for your video! I’m in my first core term and I feel so overwhelmed. I normally have no problem studying material but I’m core they don’t give much to go off of to study. So basically study everything… how did you study? I never know if I should focus on the book or ATI more, I know it’s supposed to be a mixture of both but sometimes an ATI module can take a long time and reading can take up just as much time. I feel like I don’t know how to study anymore. I used to write things down and go over my notes multiple times but I feel like I barely have time to do the modules and read seeing that it takes up so so soooo much time. Any advice? Help?

Hey Cynthia! Focus on what you used to do. In terms of the online ATI modules, I don’t worry about it unless it’s for skills.
Don’t focus on the ATI until it’s proctor. Your lecture exams will be based on your book and notes from class.

Hi. Any tips and recommendations of what necessary materials we need? Like I know a lot of nursing students get a good backpack to carry books and everything, a good stethoscope bc the one they give is bad, note pads or charts etc?

Hey! Get yourself a nursing clipboard from Amazon (link below). It helped me keep all my papers together and it’s Foldable so I’d stuff it in my big pockets. Also get multi colored pens to write notes and be organized. I also recommend getting a clinical tote bag! A lot of

Hey! I usually use the success books for each class. For example, for core I used the ‘success’ books for fundamentals, med surg, mental health, etc. On ati, I go over how to get to adaptive questions on my studying for my OB ati video!
