    I have always tried to finish with the double jab ....I never realized the "put you back in position" theory. It makes so much sense. I've been using double jab because it also allows you to reposition yourself to take a new angle while distracting your opponent. (Hiding your footwork). Great video. I love running back the old school and basics. Thank you CA!

    Subscribed. Great vid. Used to box in my 20’s. Wasn’t that great, but I learned enough to handle myself much better than the average guy. In my 40’s now with two boys. Trying to teach them. Everything is rusty and dusty, but I have the feeling you will help. No boxing gyms where we live. Middle of no where. I’ll have to do. Thank you.

    I really like the simple roll out off the straight right. I basically only finished with hook-roll outs and jabs, but I think its always good to simplify things. One finish I picked up from Floyd was straight right shoulder roll, but it is really only useful when you can keep the guy in front or outside your jab. I like that straight right roll out if the guy starts to get the inside angle on you.

    I have to say my trainer back in the day use to always tell me to jab your way in and always jab your way out. I never heard him say end with a hook only if I was going to spin out if harm's way after. This is solid advice when boxing. It will save yo ass! Remember a fighters natural instinct is to respond back in kind when you hit him. So move out of harm's way when you let your hands go. So the jab is a great way to use that exit strategy!

      @@chinosolomon4746 I put two then strait for anybody that may not know what a two is. Yeah,he told us any time you throw a strait right follow it with a double jab, then pivot, step back step around over etc...now if you throwin a combo 1,2,3 or 2,5 or whatever then throw that,but if you throwin a single 2 or the 2 behind a 1 then finish with the jab, or double it up then get out or step back and square back up whatever you feel like doin.

    • @chinosolomon4746
      @chinosolomon4746 4 роки тому +1

      @@mookeychase0907 that's right, what I try to do is train my fighters to, if they has to step back don't over do the stepping back, could get off balance so I tell them they can move back three steps back and pilot out, teach them to counter punch going back and watch what shoulders are thrown out to move in that directions with hands up,like say if you going back to counter he's attack, but say if he do he's twos and throw hook then roll on that side. Some fighters has a habit of leaning in two much, that's why going back can be a great thing to turn into a counter puncher.

  • @fernando717
    @fernando717 5 років тому +1

    I'm old school too and I always preferred finishing a combination with a jab. Not only does it put you in a position to move your feet better laterally, but it also sets you up for another combination. The jab is the most important punch in boxing. It's a shame that some fighters, even great ones, don't throw it more than they should. They would be even better if they did. Glad to see that it's not an MMA trainer teaching boxing here, btw.

  • @stephonjames1038

    Thank you coach! Never thought of the double/Triple jab to finish to get you back into position. I just did it to make sure I dont get tagged after I finish my combos. Triple jab my 2nd favorite exit after combos next to the push step to out/to the side.

    Coach Anthony: As a sports teacher my two cents are: I am not sure if everybody got it, why you are in position after a jab or a left hook, but not into position after a straight right. I got it: after a hook and a jab you end up with angled shoulders, in a way you are supposed to stand, while you end up with squared shoulders after finishing the right. You explain it at 6:50 but thats late and pretty short.
