I bought a V10 SRT Viper Truck for $13,000 at a Texas Auto Auction that was listed with Engine and Transmission Issues. I haven't really found anything majorly wrong with it, until now, with a catastrophic warning light on the dashboard. Luckily this isn't the end of the road for this Ram...

As soon as I saw those spark plugs and their wires laying up on top of the engine while it was running, I just knew he was gonna ride the lightning. And sure enough....He delivered! How was it? Meeting Zeus?
Yeah, had a good laugh!
Must get some shock off an engine like that, last shock I got was off my old golf clipper and that was pretty intense 😂
Hilarious but not that bad. I’ve zapped myself numerous times. Startling mainly.
Someone told me that a spark plug works at about 40,000 volts! Is that right?
@@nZoot Mine was like 17 years ago, we had an old Kadett or a Daewoo Nexia at the shop and it had the coil mounted right beside the driver's fender.
Guess who leaned over said fender with a slighty damp sweater while the car was running... 😅
It gives a shock, but it's not "that bad".
Don't recommend it though. 😂
That bumper repair was insanely impressive, I can’t believe how well it came out!
Dude needs to have a mask of some sort on or he’s not going to be long for this world.
Yes that was a nice repair, (certainly not worth swapping out for new as any high kerb could damage it again at any time..)
@@googlesucks3163 It was done outside, it really isn't as critical.
Anybody else think patching that floppy poly bumper with rigid fiberglass will be a problem either in normal flexing, sun heat air etc or certainly with parking curbs ?
@@justinp2993 No, (as it’s obviously much lower than sensible) I think it will be constantly hitting high kerbs and various un observed obstacles regularly as a working truck, so I definitely wouldn’t waste my money replacing it with a new one each time..
Reaching for the live spark plug was like watching someone reach for a Sawstop blade. Like a moth to a flame.
I think he channelled Medhi/Electroboom for a moment. He's lucky, a modern spark system can kill you very easily, they are that powerful. It's not like the old coil and points and even they hurt badly enough.
It's okay Sam just turned himself into "the flash" (so that'll probably cheer up his step mom!)
A trick that I use to paint valve covers with letters or designs is to dab a little bit of grease on the face of what you don't want painted and after the paint cures you can take a rag and wipe away the paint. No sanding required and if you are careful enough the result yields a line sharper than a tape edge.
I was going to say the same thing 👍
Petroleum Jelly works well as a liquid mask also.
Toothpaste will work also if you dont have grease. :)
That won't give a nice straight edge and grease will give fisheyes in the paint and the letters need to be freshened up anyway.
Also grease is fantastic for carburetor gaskets!! If you're working on older cars and find yourself removing carbs often, or on boats - it happens, a little grease slathered on the carb gaskets makes them last forever and they don't break or stick when you have to remove them!! Grease is a good thing!!
*Spider trying to attack a Viper...didn't work out so well for the spider 🤣*
Spider just ran to a surgeon to have a few fractured legs fixed.
The fuel injection machine is interesting. Back in the day, we made a fuel injection tool using a tire valve stem, a power source and a can of fuel injection cleaner. Many times I found an injector with a poor spray pattern. A couple times, the injector would not create a cone shaped fuel pattern and had to be replaced. Yeah, it sucks to pull each injector but it eliminated any guessing games. Grear work on the truck Sam. I am enjoying this project.
You also learned not to grab the HT leads when the engine is running, Sam 😂. Keep doing what you're doing. Loving the content as always 🫡
Just because Zac is outside doesn't mean he's not inhaling all that dust. Please make him wear the appropriate PPE to protect eyes, ears and lungs.
I saw that too. Sam has a respirator but Zach don’t.
wont hurt anything
sounds like a zac problem not a sam problem
Hello COPD....
@@stlwrx 🤣
Excited for the video series on this truck! Always enjoy your videos in general. You're the last guy showing people how to get creative on fixing things ourselves, and your mix of vehicles keeps things interesting.
Couldn't agree more and that do it yourself, homemade creativity is why Sam is my favorite car UA-camr.
Zac did a beautiful job on the front facia and I think you've taken care of all of the deficiencies quite nicely. Love the truck.
It's nice that you show stuff like the fuel injection cleaning. Makes me more confident in buying a higher mileage car
This engine is very old tech. Those injectors hardly need cleaning unless the car sat for yrs. Avoid high mileage direct injection engines on a lot of todays cars, cleaning out the injectors and valves can cost you thousands from previous owners neglect
Nice to see that even a seasoned pro can forget and grab the ht leads, brought a smile to my lips what is wrong with us humans when we smile when someone else is feeling the pain, nice post Sam
@10:10 was definitely waiting on Sam to shock himself 🤣🤣
The Mitch reference had me rolling 😂
Lol "frozen for a whole 20 seconds", it's so perfect...
Won't someone PLEASE think of the turtle!!
To soon?
Me too!🤣. Now when Sam fails at something we need to see Trump!🇺🇸
Yea making fun of someone for a medical emergency is always hilarious 😑
Content is so enjoyable, the commentary and personality/filming. And the struggles fixing up these cars. Makes me want to get out and do something amazing. Love it. ❤ Really appreciate it.
Totally been shocked by spark plug wire before and that is a feeling you never forget. I too was in anticipation of Sam getting shocked when I saw him unplug a wire with the engine on
love the Viper truck, keep it up Sam
As a previous service advisor at a dealership we did offer this same style service. They did offer pour in bottles at just the cost of the product.
These trucks are so easy to work on,so much space.
Thanks for supporting Standard Motor Products! I’ve worked for them for 14+ years. Great company to work for full or gearheads. We appreciate your business.
Well done Sam👍🏻 that’s a cool old viper truck. Love these Fixit episodes 😁
I just did similar to this for my mot in UK. Diesel emmisions were 7.1 . Limit is 1.5 . Did a service an when I replaced the fuel filter I backnfilled the filter with injector cleaner . Took a few turns of the ket to fire up . Left it running 20 seconds then left overnight. The injector cleaner sat in the injectors overnight . Ran it to temp next day
Emmisions went down to 0.30 from 7.1 . Passed easy
Great tip, thanks for sharing.
Tim
To test the efficacy of the cleaner, do an emissions test before and after.
Emissions testing is banned by Florida law since clean air is a libtard construct.
Could it be? A new FULL vid that’s not a commercial?!?!🎉🎉🎉
Ah come on man, we all need to pay the bills and it’s not like every one of his videos is an add from beginning to end. You can even skip the ad part most of the time.
I've always used in the tank fuel injection cleaner before winter and a battery check... anyway you're doing all the things to completely deep service. great job 😃👍
Nice. I love seeing clean rockers and such. Good deal. Good truck. Sam it is impressive to see all you have learned since your early days.
Great video Sam. Great explaining as always. Keep em coming 👍🏻
That guy from Ultimate Rebuilds is an artist.
Sir,
This has been amazing watching you bring cars back from the dead. I would keep it. Unfortunately I don't have a car or truck and watch you bring them back to life. Thank you
Zach is great, love his work.
You’ve done it again! This is the type of content I enjoy. Saving vehicles that deserve a better life. No scarp yard or used car lot (presumably to be sold in to someone who only makes it worse in most cases). Saving the ones that need saving! I got one for you, a P38 Range Rover that’s needs a rescue. I have been considering it myself but it may be too rich for my blood. I saw prices online for good examples and think the 3k buy in may not be to bad since it’s running and driving. It’s already got a coil spring conversation. Hmmm.. sorry lots track of my thoughts. lol. You, John (JR), Tavarish, and Hoovie are my mainstays in UA-cam. Thanks for what you do!
Nice job, love the quick wins. Especially with such a legendary truck.
Phew!! the old Sam is back YES! thx for the great content. !
Zack is a magician.
That Mitch Connell reference was gold
Watching him do the bumper repair was like watching an artist work. Nice job.
Sam, as soon as I saw you going to grab that plug lead I thought wait for it and the results were quit shocking 😂😂. Keep the great vids coming mate 💯👍
VERY cool, creative and practical solutions! 👍
Mr. Crack with the Mitch Mc. Robotoid drone machine had me at Oil pressure.
Wonder what ol’ mitch saw? JFK,jr ?!
Hi Sam. I enjoy your channel. I do suggest you solder any hand-crimped electrical cable to its terminal. This is standard practice in the Auto industry and ensures a much more durable crimp both electrically and mechanically. that V-10 sounds great.
The bumper work is Amazing. I didn't know you can do that.
Depends on where and what. The gm dealership what you did in the video is what we did at the dealership. Gm had its own fuel injector cleaner but most the time I used BG fuel injector cleaner.
Firestone uses a small drip through a vaccume port, one independent shop used a fogger in front of the throttle blades. BG was the most common.
I enjoy this series Sam!
My dream truck!!! Would love it as my first pick up! Awesome content! Keep it up Samcrac!
Excellent, you can now park up the Viper Truck in your field and let it sit there now that its fixed :)
Thank you for the fixit video!!
Please tell Zach he needs to wear a respirator when grinding fiberglass, and should cover all exposed skin when spraying 2K clearcoat (a full tyvek suit).
That's a seriously well done fix on the bumper
Another great video. Some excellent nuggets of wisdom being imparted.
Mitch frozen had me rolling Sam 😂😂😂
Very good Sam love that truck man been watching you for several years now sam just as long as I been watching rich builds, auto auction rebuilds, v tuned, goonzgusd, tavarish, vice grip garage, it's what I've done for many years now you need to think of making your self a big nice garage your self Sam so you can store all these cars you have all over your field man store them up and cover them up and you can have actually a bigger place to work on your car's indoors then a stable 😅lol, i like your videos man keep rolling them out bro piece!. 👌👊👍👍
That would be a awesome build. Mike is going to help you guys take this channel up unlimited levels.😊
Thanks for the video Sam.
Love your vids im a DIY guy for sure and learn so much ! Thanks Brotha
I used NGK spark plug connectors for my Suzuki GSXR a long time ago. Its very cheap for a custom setup with custom cables.
You know Sam is like any man, when you see him electrocuting himself by holding a live little wire 😅😂
I worked as a cook at a Bob's Big Boy back in 77, I was 17, and picked up a 220 volt toaster from the inside. It knocked me back 3 feet into the fridges, stupid kids! 😁👍😎✌🗽
Your fiberglass guy is an artist.
Hi Sam I want that truck in my life ❤ I’d say your way straight to the injector is definitely a better way of cleaning rather than pouring the solution into the tank, keep the videos coming
Pouring in the tank works fine. But my car took 1almost six months of treatments every fill up to 100% clean my injectors. I used a wide variety of cleaners. Mostly Redline and Techron. But also Chemtool.
Dealers and indy shops use BG products air/fuel induction service. It works not only through the fuel system but also through the vacuum system to clean the backs of valves and the intake ports. Works pretty well between walnut blasts on direct injection engines.
Happy to see you got the bugs out of the SRT. 😀
Literally 😂
Great video Samuel!
Zac is great, I follow him on his channel, great job Zac !!
I have used the repair boots before on a car. I had a car that had headers and I needed five straight boots and three angled boots to clear the headers. So I bought a straight boot set and bought three angle repair boot
👍🏻 Truck is getting there.
Omg. Finally a video from Sam. 😂
Another great video. That is how the Dodge dealer cleaned my injectors years ago in a car I had for $200.
Love your content, man!
Frozen for 20 seconds... Epic Sam!
A sure fire way to check if spark ⚡️ plug wires are fixed, give them a good hold, shocking work 😂
It’s def a collectors truck for me and I’d keep it allday!!!! Love the video
Quick note to make with injector cleaner system you have is to make sure you plug return line if equipped.
Like the spider. Love your step-mom!
Great looking spider
18:03 at the dealership I work at the the induction services we do is a fuel injection service exactly like you did, then we do a intake cleaner from the throttle body, and also dump a fuel line cleaner in the tank
3:30 Wow Zac you should do this as a main job mate! That is fantastic!!! 😎
We did the same as far as the fuel injection cleaner went. But also put the throttle body cleaner and fuel tank additive
I support the late upload
same
got to one up uncle rich!
For real I to the notification s quick
Zach does some great work, but always cracks me up to see him working in those crocs! So dangerous to work on cars in those things! I know it's hot I grew up in Tampa but for real!
It's better take the injectors out to check the spray pattern and replace the O-rings as well. I experienced that concentrated cleaner attacks the O-rings and they should be replaced based on age anyway.
Enjoyable video to watch, well done
LOL I'm dying at the Turtle frozen for 20 seconds LOL
The spark plug was priceless🤣🤣🤣⚡️⚡️⚡️I saw it coming ‼️ I tried warnin u
Nice job on the valve covers. I might have put clear coat on it so the VIPER letters in order to stay nice and shiny for a long time.
New to your channel. Love the zr1 stuff
Dealer fuel induction cleaning service is usually a treatment for the fuel tank, the injector service like you just did and a throttle body upper plenum cleaning with a machine similar to the fuel injector machine, but that one has a fine mist nozzle that sprays a cleaner through the throttle body while its running. The dealers ive worked at used bg products (some of the best products on the market imo).
Made me freeze for 20 seconds... Pure gold!
Good job
I work on these trucks a lot and I’d recommend also replacing the power steering lines that go from the pump to the fan and the fan to the steering rack. They are known to leak and pop. JTSVP sells them and I assume that’s where you got the oil lines as well.
The Dodge Ram Viper/SRT10 is definitely one of the most coolest trucks. I had a ride in an SRT10 - went like the clappers!!!
Great win Sam nice tuck
Miss your full videos???? Good luck 👍
Awesome job you are the man 💪💪
Love these trucks
I'd keep that truck. Those have always been my dream truck. Love your videos
😂😂im glad you kept that in the video lmao ive shocked my self before testing spark plugs before
I’ve never laughed so hard as you getting that shock. I know the pain brother.
That spider at the end had me like hell no it isnt alive right 😂 glad its all sound now. 🎉
Gonna be a nice truck for the money…..good job!
Ahhhh Sam with the age old Spider in the Intake Flap routine….a comedy bit as old as cars themselves.
That’s a really cool truck
You guys do magic
