I bought this wrecked, totaled, and very cheap Volkswagen Phaeton at the salvage auction. This car is very similar to the Bentley Continental Flying Spur and the Audi A8. When it was picked up, it was damaged at the auction likely by a forklift driver. We get the majority of the body damage repaired, and begin this rebuild project, but I'm not sure I want to finish this VW. Needless to say I sold it in very short order...

Yeah, def do an update video once the car is complete. It would be good to see this finalized and on the road.
There was like nothing left but the front bumper, a little paint job for the side panel and some interior cleaning. I don't get why it wasn't done in this video.
on the road? you new to this channel? I think you meant parked in a cow field!
TiptronicSS I’m assuming a lot of people have asked him about it since they have seen in the background and mentioned in a few videos. Since he’s not working or owning it anymore I think he just did an update. I’m assuming it’s not done since his brother doesn’t have a lot of free time to go to Samcrac’s open field to work on the car.
Vincent Vega lol true. But it’s someone else working and owning it now. I have hope! 😂
Cross your fingers and check back in 2yrs.
That quarter panel work was almost a thing of magic. That PDR guy did amazing work. Yes, I'd love to see the car finished up - even if it's your brother's car.
Yes please Sam, it's a very underrated gem and it would be great to see it restored. I was lucky enough to get a drive in one, it's a beautiful ride.
I totally agree, i was lucky to drive a W10 biTDi Phaeton 3.5years ago, and im still in love with it, really amazing car! But so hard to find a good one with goos maintenance record to buy :(.
@@Aloolol there is a w12, v10, v8 and v6 but no w10 :)
@@juli0s96 my bad i was so sure it was a W10 but ur right it's a V10 but still great engine tho :)
@@Aloolol yes with a hell lot of torque
@@juli0s96 yeah
I love watching dent guys and gals do their work. Real artists! I have tried doing it myself with hilarious results!
"I don't always repaint cars. But when I do, I prefer to do it outside in a field in central Florida." Stay ghetto my friends!
LOL!
I stopped this vid half way through to see if anyone else was going to mention spraying in a field rather than a booth. Chris Furlough, you took the words right out of my mouth.
LMAO, Priceless
he did a great job most body shops would of wanted to replace that quarter panel. he was able to save it with PDR and then sanding it and a small amount of filler.
No shit dude. Bugs and humidity makes it look great!
I am a fan of the Phaeton and seeing that this one was maintained properly it will definitely be worth seeing when it is completed.
Finally a phaeton video a feast for Eastern Europe
Kojotot yes brother
Lithuania gang
Impressive dent repair. would be great to see the completion of the Phaeton. Great car.
One of the most underrated cars ever
For a senior citizen yeah.
Certified peace of Crap!
Sean Hirst *piece.
Some very nice engineering.
Why would anybody pay $100k for a VW badge when they could have an S-Class, a 7 series or an A8? Few people bought into the nonsense, hence the low sales. I dig it though. Discreet luxury. Great for someone who wants a car like this but doesn't want any attention or judging. Someone secure in themselves.
Defo want to see this finished. An amazing piece of engineering by any standard. Seriously underrated. If only VW could have made it a bit more exotic or exciting to look at I’m sure it would have been a bigger success.
In Europe it was kinda succesful and was produced till 2016 or 17.
Zach is dope. Let's see the Phaeton finished
Or he's pulling a "Hoovie" and we want to see that too.
Looks just like the Passat. A few more toys but thats it really.
Holy shark, they can do those kinds of repairs? Thought you had to replace the whole panel for that. And he came to you! Nathan is awesome!
Congrats on the 1m man 🤘. I almost bought one of these at copart 2 years ago for bargain. Unfortunately when I checked it out i found out why it was for sale at copart. It was repossessed and the previous owner filled the transmission up with the unknown chemical. And it was ruined
Depending on how much you were gonna buy it for and how long ago stomaching the price of a new trans would've been worth the price
Samcrac: "Fay eh tohn"
everyone else: "faytuhn."
"fay-tawn", kinda like photon
Say it right, Fae-eh-tugn
Everyone else wgaf
actschp. You just don't understand the difference between American English and the real English, British.
He pronounced it wrong at the beginning but correctly at the end. Of course who knows how VW pronounces it, what right and what's wrong. I looked at many commercials for the car but they never mention the name. Perhaps VW doesn't even know how to pronounce it.
$1000 for that ain't a bad deal. Looking forward to these videos.
Not a bad deal at all!
I love the Phaeton. Would be nice to see this one running again.
Sam you need to build a proper shop.
Every UA-camr has a shop, I like this
He is but a humble chicken farmer though my guy
Sam might be trying to build a junkyard with all the abandoned cars he has
For the amount of free shit he could get for hocking product, there's no good reason he doesn't already. He obviously has a fair amount of real estate too. Not sure why this hasn't happened already. Imagine all the videos he could make about the creation of his shop alone.... even more content.
No way...keep it outside.
Finish it, this is one of the most interesting cars you've had.
WoW Watching the paintless dent repair process in high speed was amazing!
In this case, Less Paint Dent Repair.
@@stevelozano9523 Yeah, it was really more like major dent repair with new paint lol
I wonder how long that took...
Remebered when this car came out there was a story explainign why its blowing cold at once
"Ferdinand Piëch demanded that his engineering team make the now infamous "Ten Parameters" a Reality for the Phaeton. The parameters were said to be so impossible, that when Piëch revealed the 10 parameters, half of his engineering team said "it's impossible", and walked out.
Parameter #1 : The Phaeton must be able to be driven all day at 186mph, in 120-degree weather, while maintaining a cabin temperature of 71.6-degrees!!!"
So you're telling me, the Phaeton is the perfect cannonball car?
Came here to say this.
Sc.Lime well yes but actually no, its a vw itll break half way thru the run
@@modernlooks7041 As Samcrac mentioned, the Phaeton is more Bentley than VW.
sync8998 Yep, Piëch wanted to "fully send it" with this product.
nice Passat bro :D
Glad you like it!
@@Samcrac 😂😂😂😂
lol
I had phaeton for 3 years and most people thought it was a f*cking passat :D
@@draganmladenov that's a shame, its crazy nice car
I would like to see the Phaeton completed. I am still driving my 2004 V8 4.2 which has less than 100K miles. All of the big lifting has been done at 75K and it purrs just like the day I bought it. Maintenance is high but I have found it to be very reliable and it has never ever stranded me.
It really sucks how that rear quarter panel got smashed in so badly after winning the auction. Glad you were able to some of your $ reimbursed.
Love watching a craftsman doing some old school panel bashing. Respect to the gentleman who repairs rather than just putting on a replacement panel, when it could have the dent beaten out. And that's why I love watching Coldwar Motors.
Zac did a great job ! Love that Eastwood sanding paint muncher ! Nice to see I'm not the only one who mixes Bondo on cardboard ! Great body work music too Sam !
The vent covers likely keep the air still and it gets chilled before the covers come up. Old Ramblers had “pre-cool”. Which was nothing more than the first position of fan switch powered a/c compressor and then turning to next click turned on blower. The air that first blew out if you waited 20 seconds before fan on was icy.
I’ve been waiting for the Phaeton video forever!
I'd buy one of these in a heart beat! The amount of engineering that went into these. They wanted a car that didn't lose any power when the ac is on and the car is going up hill or something like that... super nice car!!!
View the old Top Gear re this vehicle you will see many of the features that the CEO wanted in the car, ensuring perfect temperature control at all times, hence probably why the AC came on automatically.
Those cool vents have a purpose too... they let you decide if you want cold air blown right onto you or not.
I love the smell of Samcrac in the morning.
Smells like oil leaks and moldy upholstery
Nohomo?
@@hamstirrer6882 and desperation.

Woulld love to see that Phaeton restored they are the queen of the road if you can maintain them, nice buy
Swap it for a cow.
Then swap the cow for some beans!!
I wanna hear about Sam Cracc and the Giant! Please read it Mommy? 8->)))
Then swap the beans for some gas
The swap the gas for seeds
I rented a Phaeton W12 in Germany in 2006. It was the best handling car I have ever driven on the Autobahn. Very underrated. When I got back from that trip I immediately started looking for one. They were price prohibitive back then but I might get one now.
*WoW* Watching the paintless dent repair process in hish speed was amazing!
I think this was more of a traditional DIY body shop repair, done using prying tools rather than slide hammers. Why not pull the dent out by using a couple of screws? It's not paintless if you have to use a sander on the car.
Out of curiosity, I looked at what a Phaeton sells for in the sold area of eBay. About $1k to $3k in running condition without front end damage and minus the fork lift accident.
Same here in the Netherlands, these things are cheap. Not a 12 cilinder though.
Not W12s.
Yes, I want to see it done. I've always wanted one, especially now that I can afford one. If you hadn't already sold it to your bro I wanted first dibs. Love your channel, keep up the good work.
Trunk is hydraulic. If the trunk interior lights don't work, replace the trunk controller. It's in the overhead of the trunk, there's a panel that hinges down after you remove the camouflage screws that hold it up.
You had me laughing every time you said PhaietEn. 😂😂
The repair of this dent is the most satisfying section of the video.
Good Find Sam, I remembered seeing these flying on the Autobhan in Germany...
Definitely need to see the Phaeton finished! Please please!
Yes, please finish this, make it perfect. Get some better wheels. Such a dope car
Please do a video on the painting, very relaxing to watch. Love your rebuilds, thanks.
Arthur tussik would be proud
No way, the amount of filler that guy used is a shame.
Antowa good point
You're helping felons get better! Good on you, that's a very noble thing to do thank you for being a decent human!
“The phaeton has 4 wheels and an engine - like a Mercedes that you can win or something... “ nice Segway
The Phaeton was one of those cars that was just so cool.
Sleeper luxury car. I can't think of many others in the same class.
Needs a Maaco paint job! Maybe candy red or even brown like some Mercedes.
Or keep it black, like any normal thinking person would (even though I despise black vehicles).
trick with the gallon primer can . also punch a small hole in the can at the lowest point where the lid seats. then sit the can on a couple paint paddles with the hole opposite the material will drain and make the lid fit better.
Sambacc
Your dent guy is a pro!!
He sent those photos because he saw that the car was damaged by the car carrier operator.
Exactly! He must've seen it get damaged and would've thought these A$$Holes are gonna blame it on me🙄
Yeah they would blame it on the trucker too and pretend they didn’t do anything.
Ya maybe. Probably. But they should all and usually take photos before. CYA
@@instasingingvids3529 true. The transporter covered his ass, and in the process helped out Sam
for that trunk check for slop on the full open. Manually push the trunk all the way open, then very carefully move your hand and make sure it doesn't move AT ALL! Then push the close button to see if the latch actuates. From there, hit the button again, and the trunk may close. This would indicate excessive slop on the full open and the trunk not hitting the microswitch indicating the full cycle. If that works, you've restored your functionality. Mine does that from time to time, and I just manually cycle it in that manner, restores it back to perfect.
Alternate video title "When WIN becomes FAIL." There's a reason that was a grand.
I would like to see the Phaeton finished and have Zach paint it. Your PDR guy went above and beyond with the dent and then with the sanding and filling. The air vent covers are sweet. Great job!!
like to see how it turns out when it"s painted and done.
As a big VW fan, I would love to see this car restored!! It’s a pinnacle of Piechs reign at VW AG, def a piece of history
Does the dent repair guy have his own UA-cam channel? I’d subscribe for sure.
I'm a huge vw enthusiast and it's killing me not setting this be completed such a beautiful car and you got it for a steal especially when you factor in the condition it was in 🙌🏾
LET GO BOLTS!! ⚡️
Sam on my Phaeton in the trunk were the wires interrupted, all models have problems with the wires in the trunk, but it is easy to solve whit new wires or just repair the old one with adding to them, works perfect on mine. 2012 VW Phaeton 3.0 TDI
👍🏼👍🏼paintless dent removal clip was awesome! Hey Sam You inspire me and I’m sure tons of others repairing cars. I just bought a 2015 Subaru Sti from Copart if you have a second could you give me some tips on my Copart rebuild - I just posted a video of the walk around and damage. Thank you! Keep up the good work.
Yes I want to see it completed
So we're not gonna talk about the fact that Sam didn't work on this car at all?
As a young vw enthusiast.... what i wouldnt give to own this vehicle man. good on you. trying to live through you.
imagine paying 100k for a vw
Those who got it new were some rich lucky fellows.. but trust me when this car work and look properly specially for tall chunky people it worth every penny, even like Shaquille O' Neil !
As a HUGE VW/Audi guy, I would love to see this thing saved and restored.
I almost bought this car just because the speed odometer says 200mph litterally
I've always wanted the W12.
I have got the V6.. Can't get the W12 easily in the UK!
I love my Phaeton. Best car I've ever owned!
Standard copart service, the dents come free! They are just as bad in the 🇬🇧
Nathan does excellent work
The people's car - 100k
Me: I got about tree fiddy
Love to see it finished. See how well the v12 rides.
No coooments! :O. Not notification squad, where you at?
Please finish... You found a unicorn! Love to see/hear it drive. Your PDR guy was amazing. Great job
woah, i'm early
you need to resync the trunk closing - open manual to maximum open, press open trunk on remote (rear lights flash to confirm car "heard" the open trunk order") then after 2-3 seconds just press manual CLOSE BUTTON IN TRUNK (like in video) and it should close nicely
Wow, Nathan is not "just" a PDR guy. Amazing work. (FWIW a good PDR guy works magic!)
PDR/Body guys are a rare dying breed. Car dealers/enthusiast if you find a good one I suggest you treat him right and make him want to work for you even when he is out of the trade. Nathan great job!
Back in the 90's my dad actually bought a Hyundai Stellar Prima (early Hyundai. I know, right?), with a 2.0 liter engine and that had factory AC that worked on a delay circuit. The compressor starts running and pumps freon through the system, making the evaporator coil ice cold, but the blower only starts running about 30 seconds after the engine has started. The result is similar to the Phaeton, ice cold AC from the vents the second the blower gets going.
I have popped out a few dents like this before with a braced basketball. Secure it behind the dent, heat up the panel and inflate the basketball. The dent can be mostly popped out and will not have that cellulite look. The original edges of the dent then have to be knocked down. It's not 100% but then maybe a PDR guy could finish it or just skim coat and paint.
I had purchased a phaeton a few years ago, but it was not the W12 model. The listing didn't say which engine it had. I was hoping for the 12 cyl but when I got there it was the 5.0L V10 TDI which I took because it drove so well. And the 600 lb ft of tourque at 2000 rpm it has is insane. I paid $4400 with 140k miles
Yeah I want to see you paint this car. It was cool watching the body work professional do his thing. 👍🇺🇸👍
What a beautiful car. Please do a full series on this one -- and have your brother guest star.
Yes, and update vid with paint and the finished car would be great. I really like the backyard budget friendly builds.
1000 dollars worth of pdr work for sure
The trunk opening happens with an electric motor. Check the part number as it might be the same as a A8 since it’s the same chassis. Also if it is the same motor get the all metal housing as it’s the revised part. The original motors are too weak for the A8 opening.
Finish it!!!!! I'm intrigued now!
Wow, that rear fender repair is amazing craftsmanship. Good job!
Please, please show us the finished Phaeton! That interior is gorgeous and it would be nice to see the outside finished.
AC is ran off the solor panel in the sunroof, and will keep the car cool when not in use, and also makes it super fast to come on as well
That is an unreal deal! That is the nicest VW ever made! WOW!
The ac is cold due to a process called pump down on start up, were they get the ac coil cold even frozen before they start fan the coil will get cold extremely fast without a fan so with delay of even 5 or 10 seconds delay has amazing results
PDR Paintless Dent Repair fan.
Had a front fender dent that looked like someone gave it a knee. Three collision shops gave estimates of $400-$900. One hour and $140 PDR made it look like new.
Even if you don't end up fixing it Sam for $2500 it's way worth parting it & saving others in dire need of parts. Keep up the awesome content!
Lovely Phaeton, and well worth the TLC you’re giving it. Nice to see you’re bringing it back!
Congrats on hitting a million subscribers. That's a hell of an achievement.
Yes finish the Phaeton!
I wanna see you finish this beast. Always liked these. True luxury without the badge envy, my favorite kind of car.
