  • This is something we been wanting to do for quite a while. An attempt to do this tutorial was first made in 2020 but recording stopped due to things not going quite to plan.
While we were building a rebuild of our beetleweight flipper Abu Dhabi Doo!, It felt like the perfect time to give the tutorial another go.
This video shows how to convert the 25mm gearbox motor commonly used across beetleweight combat robots from brushed to brushless, and it ends up being pretty fast only on 2S/7.4v!

Nice video Harry, but strongly advise people check out Alex Mordue's excellent tutorial for brushless 22mm conversions on his saw loser gitlab.
as two common failure points in the method you've done in this video is pinions slipping on the shaft from being pressed on (definitely use some metal glue if you're going for this method at least) and the spur gearbox giving in - definitely recommend 22mm planetaries and shaft swapping from the brushed motor instead. (See the gitlab tutorial)

Good job, but I think those gearboxes on the cheap 25mm spur gear motors are quite bad. Have you tried it with the double-gear boxes (2x spur gears) or the 25mm planetary gearboxes?

This was such a good tutorial. I'll have to give this a go myself once I properly get involved with the beetles

i found out a flashhobby BE1806 have a version with a 3mm axle that has only one side as 2mm axle, so not suitable for the conversion, is there a replacement motor that can be used or a way to search for the full 2mm axle version?
