This fight with this soundtrack playing in the background truly is a one of a kind experience. It really makes Shantien feel like a force of nature that only the hunters can stop
You describing the first two phases as "shapeless" is honestly pretty fitting. Shantien is a storm dragon and moves as if swimming, fluid and flowing, shapeless like the air almost. Really a spectacular fight and one of the many that fans want ported over to the mainline series
frontier's soundtrack is so good, it's filled to the brim with both quality and quantity. it's by far the largest monster hunter soundtrack (it's got over 100 battle themes), and like 80% of it is amazing. I strongly recommend you give more of it a listen. it's hard to trim it down to just a few, but here's my recommendations: for something epic, I'd recommend the berserk laviente medley for something catchy, I'd recommend odibarotasu or inagami for something unique, unlike what you usually hear, I'd recommend bamboo forest night, harudomerugu or zerureusu (mostly phase 2 but phase 1 is also unique) even when I have to keep it to a minimum, I still recommend 6 tracks. it's so hard just recommending a few themes from this game. that's how much I like this soundtrack. best monster hunter soundtrack, best video game soundtrack.
He has made comments about it in the MH 20th Anniversary video he did, at minute 12. He remarked it being "unusual" and "beautiful", and gave it his *Underrated Gem* seal.
Shantien is SO cool. I've always loved his themes, with that powerful Eastern Soundscape. His name is derived from Chinese and translates into "To the Heavens". This is my favorite Elder Dragon and a top tier Frontier monster for me, so I'm really happy you did a video on him!
Your analysis of phase 3 is exactly the same way I always interpreted it. It is a perfect and downright masterful encapsulation of overpowering triumph and victory. The flute plays delicately ominous-like which clearly portrays Shantien's anger rising with fury, but then completely out of nowhere, a gigantic EXPLOSION of victory bursts out like a pillar of light piercing the heavens just SCREAMING "This is it." "Don't back down now, we've gotten this far. This monster doesn't stand a chance against us." "It's OUR time to shine." Throwing out Shantien's anger like it's beyond incomparable to what the hunters are more capable of. It's a beyond gorgeous triumphant harmony that genuinely feels so convincing that you've already won the battle. But as the title of phase 3's theme suggests: "Storm Preceding the Verge of Death," tells a different story.... of revelation. Shantien's battle medley is so meticulously well composed that the battle itself feels like you're witnessing the events of a story unfolding that gives new meaning to calm before the storm. Capcom created a masterpiece
One of the best monsters in frontier let alone in the franchise, the spectacle boss fight is also incredibly difficult even from frontier standards, and when you get to the final stage and hear the legendary ost, it gives the feeling of "now i MUST win this fight" and it's as beautyful as awsome❤❤❤ also, Shantien is soo arrogantly powerful that in the final phase he's basicly killing himself by overloading his own powers till the very end, and when it dies, it's because he literally made himself explode from the inside so that you wouldn't get the satisfaction to kill him proprely, and that's metal as hell🔥💀
YES! I was hoping you would listen to this song someday. I even recommended it on the last livestream. This and Disufiroa are amazing Frontier tracks, and i hope someday capcom puts these two on the main series.
The full main theme from Monster Hunter Wilds was played at the 2024 Monster Hunter Orchestra concert. I would really love to see your analysis, it's easily my favorite main theme!
Great video as always! Such a gorgeous medley. I love the phase 1 (The Azure Dragon Advent ). The leisurely tempo is perfect for the graceful divinity and majestic beauty of Shantien. Thank you for the video, Davi. I really enjoyed it :)
@@DaviVasc Kinda, yeah. I admit that it's because I mostly watch when it's about songs I know, aaand, beside mh and fromsoft games, I don't know a lot xd That, and the fact that beside complaining, I rarely have much to say. But when you talk about one of these songs, I sure am happy to watch the video! ( Just no safi, my disliking of him is too strong for that :x ) Though, I keep missing the streams, it's not the best of times of the day for me, sad times And I'm curious if you'll manage to pronounce my pseudo correctly next time I manage to see a stream ( though it wasn't so bad last time ) Welp, I sure talked too much, sorry xd In anycase, thanks for those videos, and good day ( or night ) to you o/
Shantien is an Elder Dragon unrivaled in beauty and majesty, if Amatsu is a hurricane made flesh Shantien is the very storm itself, a living god. A pure force of nature powerful enough to fight the black dragon Disufiora to a stand still. Wielding thunder and water to cataclysmic degrees, as the fight progresses the angrier this god becomes culminating in Shantien obliterating the air ship you fight it on causing you and your fellow hunters to fall into a volcanic waste land where Shantien in its rage follows which at this point it begins absorbing the heat around it giving it access to fire attacks along with thunder and water. This is the 4th phase of the fight, a god brought down to earth in it fury the storm raging above the battle field as the landscape around you tears itself apart in volcanic activity. At the very end of the conflict tho the stress would be too much for the Shantien to handle, readying a big attack its body would fail it causing its own demise instantly dispersing the storm and the landscape around you to begin to quell. In all honesty its rather sad that something so beautiful would be driven to such lengths but in the battle for survival there is no such thing as fair.
The final phase theme really sounds like a divine storm has descended. I also love the little sort of beeps in the background that gets associated with electrical devices powering up/being scrambled because Shantien is electric. They're so subtle but it just adds to the whole piece. Shantien's themes are truly spectacular
Dude, you’ve got to do white fatalis from frontier Z it feels like Zeus is descending from Olympus to smite you for the audacity of existing. It’s awesome
ah yes, my favourite monster hunter theme, paired with many others cuz i cant really decide a favourite really 🤣, but i just love how it gets more divine and magestic through the 5 whole phases.
Shantien is my favorite theme in all of Monster Hunter, and while there are ones that exude the same quality and intensity, none have claimed my personal favorite as much as the heavenly Azure Dragon.
Compared to the mainline monster theme, frontier is a whole different beast. They break most of normal convention on monster theme and just make a new style of their own.
hey! I love your content so much and I was wondering if you were ever planning on covering little nightmares! I think you'd be amazed by that ost a lot
Shantien is no simple monster, Shantien is the storm made flesh a god form an old world. Shantien is not something humans can beat, and then, at the end of the fight, Shantien kills themselves with their own power, hunters didnt struck the last hit, Shantien decides when the fight is over
I don't really know if I'd say any melody in this song is really the "hunter's theme", because really only Proof of a Hero is the hunter's theme. It sounds heroic, but it's still the theme of Shantien all the way through, and it fits because Shantien isn't exactly the most malicious monster out there. You hunt it more out of circumstance, as it's being tormented by a far more sinister monster named Disufiroa, whose theme is far more villainous. As an aside, Hunters aren't really bound to any sort of duty, but they are definitely still seen as heroic because of the feats they accomplish. The most dangerous monsters typically only affect a particular area of the world or a human town or settlement, rarely the entire world, but that's just me going "uhm ackchually 🤓" to be honest lol. I think what really sticks out to me in this theme is the drums. The percussion is just perfect for a monster in control of storms as it sounds like thunder, and the rhythms they create with that percussion are just infectious.
my biggest monster hunter hot take is that shantien's music is just not as good as everyone hypes it up to be (still great, just not S tier), it's jarringly "generic asia/wind-themed boss fight" for Frontier, the title with some of the most unique music in gaming I personally prefer the giant hangry snakes, the Laviente/Raviente and its 2 variants they sound wild and unconquerable, like impending doom that will swallow the whole world, an ancient god risen from the dead to exact his revenge on puny mankind and it gets more insane each time, with Normal sounding like a rabid wild animal to Violent sounding like an ancient wrath to Berserk sounding like your imminent death

フェーズ2までは威嚇してるだけで敵対はしてないんだよな
I actually fought shantien a few weeks back and although the music is great its a masterpiece while your fighting shantien yourself

taikun phase 2 (LR), abiorugu (GR), flower field (GR) all go real hard
Ooooh I hope he covers the Frontier Crimson Fatalis theme. It’s literally the music that would play if Satan himself crawled out of hell.
yeeeesss, the vocals for the second(?) phase are so terrifying and heartbreaking, I adore it.
He has made comments about it in the MH 20th Anniversary video he did, at minute 12. He remarked it being "unusual" and "beautiful", and gave it his *Underrated Gem* seal.

Hideyuki Fukasawa is a genius composer.
Hope he comes back in future MH games tbh

Thats such a pridefull dragon thing to do OMG "Im not dying here, YOU ARE DYING WITH ME!!! AND YOU WONT GET A REWARD!!! AAA-!!!"
i’m not crying… you’re crying. this music is always so emotive to me. definitely a great song
Shantien might be my favourite monster hunter monster, everything about the fight from the design to gameplay to the music is all peak to me
Based
Same, mate, same.
The phase 4 theme is the best MH theme.
So now we doing frontier huh, be sure to cover the odibatorasu one! Great video as always :)
Definitely odi has got to be one of my favorite themes in the series
Best drop in the series
Yes! Odibatorasu’s battle theme brings me back to the feeling of battle themes in MH 2dos. So focused on the catchy melody and the tense of the fight.
It's a massive compilation of the phase themes, but man this could quite possibly be one of the greatest themes for a monster in the whole series
YES! I was hoping you would listen to this song someday. I even recommended it on the last livestream.
This and Disufiroa are amazing Frontier tracks, and i hope someday capcom puts these two on the main series.

If you are doing frontier themes you HAVE to listen to Inagami’s theme, it’s definitely one of the best
Great video as always! Such a gorgeous medley. I love the phase 1 (The Azure Dragon Advent ). The leisurely tempo is perfect for the graceful divinity and majestic beauty of Shantien. Thank you for the video, Davi. I really enjoyed it :)
YES! This is my favorite monster hunter music of all time. It might be one of my favorite songs ever!
Oh yeah, the best mh music, happy to final have it
Yo Blazouille. It's been a while!

Most of the frontier tracks are sick
Shantiyen Phase 3 and 4 are easily my favorite themes in all of MH.
Shantien is an Elder Dragon unrivaled in beauty and majesty, if Amatsu is a hurricane made flesh Shantien is the very storm itself, a living god. A pure force of nature powerful enough to fight the black dragon Disufiora to a stand still.

I hope you cover the bamboo forest night and day themes eventually, theyre pretty good bops
The final phase theme really sounds like a divine storm has descended. I also love the little sort of beeps in the background that gets associated with electrical devices powering up/being scrambled because Shantien is electric. They're so subtle but it just adds to the whole piece. Shantien's themes are truly spectacular
A new MH with Frontier Monsters would be sick, maybe even an anniversary collection or smth
We need to show this OST to some non MH players. Just let them experience absolute Peak.
Wilds’ full main theme just dropped. Bro. You HAVE to listen to it 😂
I hope Shantien in G-rank of MH Wilds
Dude, you’ve got to do white fatalis from frontier Z it feels like Zeus is descending from Olympus to smite you for the audacity of existing. It’s awesome
You need to listen to the guanzorumu theme such a beautiful track 🤩very bice video btw keep it up 😊
Never fought it but DANG its themes are ruthlessly good and worthy of coming back!
Finally!!! I've been waiting for this video for a long time
You should also listen to Inagami's theme, it uses Angklung which is cool
Since I discovered this medley, I have loved it and listened to it over and over again. 🤩
In Frontier my favorite theme is berserk laviente sometimes when i was farming deviants in GU i listend to it insted of the anoying deviant theme xD
Finally more monster hunter music!
Finally! I was waiting for this incredible song! And you are also incredible ;)
思い出の最も大好きだったゲームを見てくれて嬉しい
ありがとう
They need to bring this monster into the newer games! I love it's design and it has the best 4 phase theme ever!
yoo you really reacted to it! Great job as always!
Shantien and its theme helped me a lot through difficult times.. till this day I cried especially phase 4 🌪💧⚡️🔥
Try reacting to the theme song of White Fatalis the Frontier Version. You'll LOVE it!
Hi! You didn't lie when you said the channel was going to be more active, ofc that's nice. Cool track, nothing else to say jajajaja. Okeye, ¡adiós!
ah yes, my favourite monster hunter theme, paired with many others cuz i cant really decide a favourite really 🤣, but i just love how it gets more divine and magestic through the 5 whole phases.
We NEED this guy to try My Singing Monsters, that or he should react to A Mother’s Love from Undertale Yellow
YES, HES FINALLY REACTING TO THE BEST MH THEME!!!
Damn...it only took 23094823029348209 years (Jk been wanting this for long, worth the wait.)
Now to cope for Berserk Laviente :')
Has he already seen the official top 10 monster hunter themes?
definitely an insane ost, but could be better if it somehow gets a remake or remaster in a newer game hopefully
It would be so cool to fight shantien in Wilds during the thunderstorms
hey! I love your content so much and I was wondering if you were ever planning on covering little nightmares! I think you'd be amazed by that ost a lot
Hoping you react to Crimson Fatalis' medley from Frontier
Shantien is no simple monster, Shantien is the storm made flesh a god form an old world.
Shantien is not something humans can beat, and then, at the end of the fight, Shantien kills themselves with their own power, hunters didnt struck the last hit, Shantien decides when the fight is over
Davi Vasc and an MH analysis video, name a better duo
You should do inagami that theme is a banger
Rebidiora theme next!

Dose Davi know that there was reviled oficial theme of MH Wilds?
nice some new mh content warming up for the wilds tracks ? :D
A shame Shantien wasn't in Sunbreak, all the others were in it.
Listen to slave knight gael ost
I'l sorry mainline, but Frontier has better osts
Has he reacted to the Frontier Crimson Fata theme ?
No elden ring/lies of p videos 🙁,but still great reaction tho🗣️🗣️🔥🔥
my biggest monster hunter hot take is that shantien's music is just not as good as everyone hypes it up to be (still great, just not S tier), it's jarringly "generic asia/wind-themed boss fight" for Frontier, the title with some of the most unique music in gaming
I personally prefer the giant hangry snakes, the Laviente/Raviente and its 2 variants
they sound wild and unconquerable, like impending doom that will swallow the whole world, an ancient god risen from the dead to exact his revenge on puny mankind
and it gets more insane each time, with Normal sounding like a rabid wild animal to Violent sounding like an ancient wrath to Berserk sounding like your imminent death
