    Alright Matt, you are definitely having a good time out there, but that is something I would not do and the reason being I would just not get back in my rig when I was wet and covered with mud. For some reason I only like the mud on the outside. Thanks for another enjoyable video.

    • @MadMatt4WD
      @MadMatt4WD  7 років тому +8

      Hey James. Truth be told I don't do it very often either but If I had to cross said puddle and the risk was real that i could get stuck I would get in because if I do get stuck I'm in anyway. Then I have the mud right through the car and that's not cool and may cost big money if I damage items. But I do agree and the video was to make a point of not driving in blindly.

      @@MadMatt4WD Great point Matt. Get yourself muddy rather than entire interior of the car. An easy choice to make. I learnt the hard the way that measuring with a stick from the side sometimes just doesn't cut the mustard.

    Nice video. I never got stuck in mud when this much of water involved. But deep mud without water will always very slippery. So I came to a conclusion all those sticky mud will washed away by the water and giving the tyres better grip. + you can use your tyres like a blender to wash away the mud from the surface.
    Please correct me if I am wrong.

    • @MadMatt4WD
      @MadMatt4WD  5 років тому +3

      I think your correct that the tyres will be cleaner and more effective with more water present. Well said. At the end of the day I prefer to avoid mud.

    What gear should you be in for water crossings? Low range?

    • @MadMatt4WD
      @MadMatt4WD  7 років тому +2

      Hi Damien yes low range and usually 1st for a deep crossing and maybe second is it's a shallow crossing with a firm surface. There's no need to go too fast in water. As long as you create the bow wave and keep the engine air intake out of the water. watch my video on how to cross a river.

    That's a big log. When I was young I watched a Lada fly through a puddle and the thing stopped so fast in the middle of that puddle I'm sure it stood on it's nose for a sec or 2, anyway when he got pulled out they found a log like yours sitting in the bottom of the puddle. Not sure how much damage he copped but he couldn't drive it afterwards.

      Nah your good. We got that "get er done" attitude towards most things. Also another popular phrase is "let er eat" that means hold the accelerator to the floor. And the famous last words. "Hey ya'll watch this" lol. I grew up watching dukes of hazard so that's where I learned to drive. I've only had a 4x4 for the last year but my skills for that type of driving gave me a huge heads up on the 4x4 stuff. I have a 2000 jeep cherokee, it's been down for a few months coz the piston skirt broke and it was too worn out to rebuild. I just ordered a 4.7l stroker engine and it's almost delivery time. I'm dying without my trail time, I've never enjoyed driving anything I've owned this much so it's safe to say I'm hooked

    Love common sense--get out of the truck and check it out, same on foot really. On foot, probe with a pole--find out what you got before you put your foot there. Same with the truck. But go slow! No reason to haul ass, just take your time, feel around and be sure you got what you need to cross. Be mindful of sinkholes, they do exist and it can be dangerous. Keep that pole firm in your hands and go slow
