I had great luck using old brown glue using a suction cup to push it deep I
Into cracks it's thin as water but I like knowing it's deep
Yep- I do that. This is the second step I sometimes do
What do you use for wider cracks? Titebond?
Titebond can help hide a crack as it dries more of a spruce colour. If it’s wider then 0.015” I use a splint
Can I use it over super glue? I did a crack a few weeks ago....haven't taken down the proud glue yet....that looks neat.....will it color over the super glue?
This can be applied over superglue
Does this work on the fretboard?? My note sounds dead and has a buzz, I realized there is a small crack on that fret... Would this fix it or make it worse?
Hide glue works on FB cracks but typically I use thin ca in a tight ebony fretboard crack.
Nice. Does glue boost work with old brown glue ?
You mean can you cover a crack glued with OBG with Glu boost fill n finish? Yes
Two questions Beau. First, are you saying you use glue boost on the old brown? And after the Brown Glue sets, how do you clean it up without once again removing that top layer of glue
I can’t remember if I glue boosted over this or not. But glue and finish are seperate things and if the glue line is wide enough sometimes spot finishing can/should be done (depends on the quality of the guitar and the quality of the customers wallet)- the best fix it to drop fill nitro in, but that takes months to fully cure properly and will always shrink back a bit unless you come back for touch ups, or over fill it and leave it that way and get the customer to come back in 6-12 months to do a final sand and buff (that’s what I’d do on say pre 50’s Martin etc).
A quicker way is to fill it with the glue boost and be done in a week. You CAN do it all the same day with glue boost but best to wait a week.
And yess, when you wipe away excess glue you pull out some glue from the top- it is just inevitable. For this I think I did the initial glue up then a few days later (or the neck day?) and did what you see here and do my best to wipe the excess across the crack (not along) but it’s never exactly level- that’s where a finish touchup comes in. Be it nitro or shellac.
@@BeauHannamGuitars thanks for the advice?

What is "the old brown glue?"
This/ amzn.to/4728wUE
How did you remove the excess brown glue?
Wiped it off with warm water (you don’t want hide glue to dry on any finish as it will chip it off)
@@BeauHannamGuitars how long did you wait after applying it to wipe off? I have a Gibson with a crack running from the bottom of the bridge to the bottom of the guitar. Would obg work good on it after I get the moister back in the wood and closed up?
I wonder if super glue works ?
Ca can be the perfect glue for a crack- mostly in rosewoods with tight cracks.
