I am going to start reading the Robin Hobb books next year 😊
I absolutely loved North & South and want to read more Gaskell.
I haven't watched the first gladiator since probably the early 2000s - time for a rewatch!! But I did love gladiator 2 and have watched a tonne of interviews with cast and crew. Paul Mescal is an amazing actor. First found him in Normal People too.

You won't regret starting Robin Hobb's many series - if you like Papa's books you'll love Hobb. The character relationships are SO well developed, plus - animal companion, yay! 🙂

@OhioEddieBlack I do, so I'm sure I will! I bought assassins apprentice last year, I just haven't embarked on another series yet, trying to finish some of the ones I'm reading already! Got to love a series 😊

Ed, Assassin's Quest is definitely the sloggiest of Hobb's books for me. Howling Dark was also just ok for me. Sun Eater is one of those series that suffers from not having super well-developed characters. Howling Dark has an insane ending that subverts expectations which is why it stands out for people. Demon in White is book 3 and my favorite in the series so far as the pacing is the strongest. It focuses more on politics and court intrigue and spends more time with the core characters. I do have to say, 4 books in (I recently finished Kingdoms of Death) Sun Eater is solid for me, but not top tier. I think the scope is what people love about it, and Hadrian's philosophical progression. As a character-driven reader, and one more appreciative of themes than philosophy, I enjoy it but it doesn't do those two things as well as others in my opinion. -Maddie

You were both fantastic moderators! And I'm so glad that you both like the bracelets, Truth and Courage ⚔️
Fury of the Gods was truly amazing, probably my favourite book of the year. I agree that the battles were fantastic, but the character work throughout this entire series gripped me so much. The twists and turns were also insane. Absolutely blew me away. I already have a FatF reread planned because I miss having a Papa Gwynne book to read already 😂
Ed and Sadie have convinced me to try ACOTAR again, because I also love drama, and sometimes your brain just needs it

I just started Ship of Magic. Loved Farseer trilogy! That’s too bad about Gladiator 2. I was wanting to see it. Moana 2, Mufasa, and Sonic 3 were solid movies.

Every time I recommend Elderlings to someone I have to convince them to continue after Assassin's Quest, it's by far her worst book and it is followed by my personal favourite trilogy in Liveships. Love North and South, the best last line in Victorian literature. My November book of the month was Brat Farrar by Josephine Tey, a doppelganger mystery.

Hey fellas, just subbed. I finished The Shadow of the Gods last night. I was on a watch forum and a (nice )guy took a photo of his watch next to his kindle so I messaged him (he is in the USA) and he told me about how he had to been waiting a long time for Fury but I should start with Shadow. So I did, LOVED it and he told me about your chanel so I have some catching up to do !

    In November I read:
    «The Steel Tsar» (A Nomad of the Time Streams» Trilogy #3) by Michael Moorcock (Multiverse/Alternative History/Time Travel Steampunk(?)😅)
«The Stranger» by Albert Camus/illustrated by Jacques Ferrandez (Graphic Novel adaptation of the Absurdist Philosophical Novel)
«The Duel» by Joseph Conrad (Napoleonic Historical Military Fiction Novella)
«Lord of Light» by Roger Zelazny (Science Fantasy inspired by the Legend of Siddhartha Gautama/the Buddha)
«The Fury of the Gods» (Bloodsworn Saga #3) by John Gwynne (Epic Fantasy inspired by Norse Mythology): Do not be afraid, I will ASAP post my list of thoughts and references on your discussions with Papa Gwynne & Professor Chase! 😎🙌
Currently reading: Just started on «Dreaming the Eagle» («Boudica» #1) by Manda Scott (Historical Fiction about the Celtic British Queen and her Rebellion against the Romans).
My November Haul: The final two novels in Mary Gentle’s «The Book of Ash» series (90s Alt-History Military Fiction), «The Wild Machines» & «Lost Burgundy», as well as a Hardback Edition of Tolkien’s «The Fall of Numenor», Matthew Harffy’s «Forest of Foes» (Historical Fiction set in Anglo Saxon Britain), «The Lion & the Sword» by Roberta Cray (90s Fantasy inspired by Alexander the Great’s Conquest of Greece: Something of a hidden gem going by the few, but very enthusiastic reviews I found of it, anyway, I just saw that glorious cover by the lauded Tolkien Illustrator John Howe, and just had to have it!😄) and «The Women of Troy» by Pat Barker (retelling of the aftermath of the Iliad from the perspective of Briseis, the «War Bride» of Achilles)!
As for movies/TV I have recently seen (November/December): «Gladiator 2» (while not a 5 Star, nor as iconic as the previous movie, I found it well worth the watch for the performances by the leads alone and a high 4 Star: In a battle I would 5/5 times choose Russell as my general, but as a synthese of the Farmer Warrior Maximus and the Philisopher Emperor Marcus Aurelius, Paul Mescal sold me as the better ruler and Denzel is clearly having a blast in his role!), «The Penguin» HBO Max Show (also a tour de force performance from the two leads!) & «Twisters» (Nice, wholesome disaster movie!😄), «The Desert of the Tartar» (70s Existentialist Film, about the slow decay of the men serving at a Border Fortress as they wait for a war that might never come: BEAUTIFULLY shot at a REAL Iranian Castle Ruin, with a young Jacques Perrin («Cinema Paradiso») and iconic Max von Sydow!), «The Day of the Jackal» (1970s Thriller based on the Frederick Forsyth novel about an attempt to assassinate the French President), «Cromwell» (1970 movie about the English Civil War: Richard Harris as Oliver Cromwell and Alec Guinness as King Charles 1», «Barbie» (Man, that «Godfather» Scene, Gerwig what I done to deserve such a hacker!🤣), «Flesh + Blood» (80s Historical War/Adventure Movie: Not for the lighthearted, but clearly an inspiration for the Grimdark Manga «Berserk») and «Ashes and Diamonds» (50s Polish Movie, set during the final days of WW2, when a Polish Home Army Resistance Group's assassination against the new Stalin-backed Communist Leadership goes awry, a favorite of Martin Scorsese & Francis F. Coppola: Very stylish, and I get why the lead was called the James Dean of Eastern Europe!)
    Cheers Chaps! 😊🙌

If every great fantasy series should have cheese mentions, my fantasy series has it in the very title: The Edam Trilogy! 🧀 😁 Our discussion of The Fury of the Gods with Sam (who is much wiser than he pretends) and Papa Gwynne is a huge BookTube highlight for me. Thank you for taking part, gents! Truth and Courage!

Throne. Of. Glass. Just sayin' haha. So much better than the fairy porn. Your "movember" convo cracked me up. The phrase I hate is "she released a breath she didn't know she'd been holding." It was okay the first time, but thirty-seven times later, I'm rolling my eyes out of my head. Congrats on finishing Farseer; that's amazing. Jealous! Will, so glad to hear your take on Fry with The Odyssey. That's the exact thing I'd been worried about, and BE was on point with the Gaiman/Norse comparison. I read Gaiman's NM. I knew all the stories so there was nothing new there, although I speculate that if I didn't know the stories I'd really have enjoyed his version. I was afraid Fry's Odyssey would be much the same; Will's thoughts confirmed. Two great storytellers can't make up for overfamiliarity with the subject matter. Not their fault, but think I will avoid it and stick to retellings that have a new angle like Barker/Haynes/etc. Enjoy those SO much. Loved the North & South series. I'm a huge sucker for period dramas, especially Victorian. Little Dorritt FTW!!! Was watching it just last night! Hope you guys have an awesome Christmas with the fam. Hugs to PG, Mum, Sadie, and TBI. I failed at getting TBI's package in the mail in time; won't arrive until Jan. I'm hoping she won't know the difference 😄

As I've gotten farther away from watching Gladiator II, i'm still as disappointed with it as I was when I came out of the cinema... Aftersun destroyed me, in the best possible way, be prepared Will! Book of the month was The Temple of Fortuna, such a perfect ending to a brilliant series! Probably in my Top 5 series of all time now.
