- Dr. David Conway has been developing a machine that will allow him to predict earthquakes and other seismic activity. By the time it's perfected the machine predicts a major earthquake for the next day. He and his colleague Dr, Ellis Morton try to forewarn the Governor but it's too late to do anything. The subsequent earthquake is devastating. They head deep into the Carlsbad caverns to determine what might be causing the pressure. What they find is an unknown volatile mineral that is safe when wet but expands and eventually explodes when dry. The mineral has been pushed to the surface and their only solution is to flood those areas where the mineral is found.

Born in 1936 and now aged 87, I grew up watching and loving these corny old "B" movies. I still do. Regards to all fellow fans. England, November, 2023.
Hello to England from California!
@@mariakelly90210 Hello to you Maria. I actually love it when getting unsolicited replies to my comments, especially when coming from sunny California. I hope I've got this right, but I am one of the few Englishmen who knows that Sacramento, not San or Los is the State capital. How's that? Best wishes from an upright, lucid 87 year old. Not as active as Joe. But then he's much younger, 80! Best wishes. November, 2023.
@@mariakelly90210 Maria, I think I replied to you. If not, thanks. Listening to T, Rex singing "Get it on". Try it please, I love it. November, 2023.

Love old movies and TV shows
Better than what they produce today !!
Not hard (I think we are regressing on all fronts.)
I love these old scifi movies.
Thank you for uploading it for us.

Yes, this one is really a rare treat!
🎼 🎶 _Movie time dance, 🎵 Movie Time Dance, 🎉 Yeah!!!_
Pretty cool how they used real footage of earthquakes, dam breaks and floods.
Great movie!And Kathryn Grant....what a natural beauty!
When movies didn't have to be 3 hours long to tell a complete story.
They didn't need CGI either and they did a good job, with the effects that had in the day. actors had talent back then. Because of all the fake acting and CGI, I now watch old B&W movies now. there is but good entertainment, after all this is want they are meant to do.
She is a beautiful woman 👩🏼 I’m glad she is still alive I saw her in a lot of movies
Yes, Kathryn Grant is stunning. So amazing how many of these Sci Fi movies from the 50's feature very attractive women.
No Ghetto Butts 😝@@19MarkDavid
Awesome movie. Nothing like the oldies
Love the volcano going off right behind him in the window! Classic.
They have volcanos in Southern California?
@@mariakelly90210California is part of the Ring of Fire, with over two dozen volcanoes, though mostly extinct. Lassen in N Cal. was the last to explode in 1921.
Kathryn Grant was a seriously beautiful lady. Interesting side note on her is her married name is Kathryn Crosby, Bing Crosby's wife. And as of this moment still alive I believe
This is the first time I've seen her during her pre-Bing days; thanks for mentioning it! 🐈
OMG you are right. She was a major bit**h if I remember correctly. We know bing Crosby was a very dysfunctional father . A real terror.
According to his kids Bing was a womanizer and a beat the He'll out of them. Denise Crosby of Star Ttek Next Generation took name although she was an illegitimate child from one of his affairs and he never recognized her as his. Man sure could sing though...
Yes, Kathryn Grant Crosby is 89 now!
Yes, she is alive
You know its a really good movie when you hate to see it end! There was a lot of stock footage from other movies, but it was still very good!
Amen to THAT & I just started it. I love these nostalgic movies!💞
I love b/w movies & the topic.
Thank you for showing this. ❤
Thanks for watching!
I heard it damaged a lot of glassware & crockery when the World Exploded. That stuff is so dang delicate.
Excellent! Timely Then & Timely Now! ...Best Episode Ever Tackling The Environment When No One In Regular Life Had A Clue & Were Never Told Truth By The Government!
Fred F. Sears also directed the schlocky, cheap and fun "The Giant Claw " which also features inept scientists and military men, a sonorous, foreboding voiceover narration, and dime store f/x. Thanks for this !
The giant claw is great lol
The mst3k version is great!
One of the better disaster end of the 🌎 world movies And a very attractive future Mrs Bing Crosby
Thanks!
Gotta love the shameless airplane cabin set. Office chairs and folding card tables! The camera is located so far away it is easy to tell there is just the one wall. They must have spent their whole budget on stock disaster footage. Kathryn Grant was so pretty.
Not so long ago I paid twenty-five cents to see a double Matinee, and this was one of the movies showing at our Theater. Long live Baby Boomers, but Old age still sucks. God Bless. God, Family and Country. 1776
Don't forget the cartoon.

Kathryn Grant...I'm hooked!

I've been to Carlsbad Caverns and they are really worth visiting.
Are they *really* made of styrene?
Carlsbad Caverns are not made of styrene or any other artificial crap.

An oldie but a goodie😮
Two words. Impressive movie.
I thoroughly enjoyed this film. Thank you. ❤️
This movie should have gotten an award for the most stock footage ever used and the cardboard airplane was the highlight! :)
Oh boy, ha ha ha that is hilarious about the cardboard airplane being the highlight. Ha ha ha thanks for that laugh.
I'd love to see that, and what it looks like.
They used the cardboard plane again in Plan Nine from Outer space.

Ha ha ha ha, I am going to have to see that movie again and check out that hilarious cardboard airplane. That is so wild it's hilarious to me. Thanks for mentioning it. I loved hearing about it.❤️😆
When was that? When the rain was being flown through?
They had a helicopter that wasn't cardboard.

It was in the script😁!!!
whelp, now I don't need to watch it. geez, thanks a lot.
First time I've ever seen it and although I grew up with 'Monolith Monsters' I would have to say this is better even though I haven't reached the end yet. That female lead is a knockout compared to some.
That was a great old movie. The girl was the miniaturized princess in the Seventh Voyage of Sinbad
And...she was married to BING CROSBY!
Love the card table and folding chairs on the airliner.
That was in First Class!

That is a fun movie. Thank you for sharing it.
Love the B&W sci-fi.
But the cars, the cars!! Oh they were worth a movie all by themselves! Poetry in steel and chrome.

Love these 50’s B Sci Fi’s…..certain charm to them. Also…seems if you weren’t wearing a suit in the 50’s….you were hauled off the streets.
And don't forget the hat!
People dressed better in those days. .
I got a kick out of the scene on the plane at 53:48 where they are sitting in office chairs as what is obviously a folding card table.
What took them so long to dig through those Styrofoam rocks 🪨 is beyond me and oh PULL UP THE SWWIIIIINNNGGGG. Had me rolling.

After rhe Inventor told the Governor about the pending Earthquake, he should have packed his bags and left town.
The kiss says it all.
What made this unusual from other sci-fi's was that there was no MONSTER or ALIEN in this, just maybe Mother Nature.
Yeah, "Crack in the World" did this even better. "When Worlds Collide" is ultimate dated, but fascinating to see how people and society looked then. I bet they thought WWC looked totally modern when it released.
She was in a lot more but quit when she became bing crosby’s second wife
Kinda like "Monolith Monsters", 'cept they were, extraterrestrial based🤔.

fold up tables and chairs on plane ..lol love this movie.
👍So cheesey! loved it.
Quite good.......though not quite as terrifying as "The Day the Earth Sneezed" (1959).
Brad deserves better than to be strung along like that, he seems like a pretty stand up guy.
From what I can tell the entrance to Carlsbad Caverns hasn't changed a bit in the last 65 years. Forgive me for pointing out that if one were to flood subterranean areas that have a high temperature.....the result would be massive steam explosions. Hence it would seem that in this case if one didn't get you...the other one would.
I saw this when it came out. I was in high school in '58.
It's good to know they were making films using no name actors and bad scripts 50 yrs ago. I thought it was a .more recent phenomenon.
Not much tension when it already wxplodes in the opening credits...lol.
9:07 In Southern California, this is called Tuesday.
Politics over science, money over people. Same ole story.
The earth is going to explode so I bought you some perfume!
Kathryn Grant was Bing Crosby's wife. She still alive at 93.
Greta Thunberg had that same computer when she said the human race has 12 years left. 🤣🤣🤣
That was a good movie. Just the right amount of cheese!
Out of water the element expands and explodes. The same year of this release the film The Monolith Monsters was released. in that film the element expands in water and grows to enormous size.

I'm pretty sure they're the scientists...They know what they're doing!
😂😂
How did you find such a old movie.. wow
A fun film that reminds me of something I once asked my teacher a LONG time ago when learning about petroleum drilling since I went to school where there was a LOT of drilling going on: "With all the oil being extracted from the Earth, why doesn't the Earth collapse in on all the cavities left behind by all the extraction?" This film kind of expounds on that and maybe the lady was right. Mother Nature's way of paying humans back for taking without giving anything in return?
Mother Earth has created a lot of cavities herself - engineers create cavities that won't collapse on themselves - otherwise they'd never be able to extract anything
not to mention what the ants were excavating. There are a lot of ants on earth they say. Oops.. in earth.
Oil comes mainly from sandstone reservoirs. there is actually no cavity
When you take something out without refilling the cavity with something, you create a hole or cavity. To say that Mother Nature never collapses on herself is ludicrous and to equate an anthill with an extraction of millions, or billions, of gallons of crude oil would be laughed at by anyone who didn't fail fifth grade geography.
@@vernalc2449 - can you point to these huge collapses where there once was oil
I guess it takes possible wirkdwide to disaster to bring two people together!😮😮😮
Who needs superman when our heroes aren't even affected by the poison gasses that are wiping out everyone else?
When massive earthquakes are happening, be in a deep cavern.....
Many more times the number of people saw her daughter than ever saw her.
This is actually a great movie. No need for a spoiler alert as I'm not giving anything away. But here are some interesting points to look for in the movie.
23:47..."Get a load of this. There's not supposed to be anything down here but limestone." "I'm going to put it in my collection."
I think he should put it in his refrigerator. It's clearly a Black Olive...
The Earth has cracked from Carlsbad Cavern all the way to Israel. (Good thing he didn't find a fortune cookie.)
25:26... I told you he should have put it in the refrigerator.
37:14... Proof that Al Gore helped write the script. (A little-known factoid, exactly nine months after the Roswell incident Al Gore was born.)
51:12... "Now we have it under control."
'What did you do?'
"First, we put Donald Trump in jail. Then we disbanded the Republican Party and made Marxism our state religion. We then put Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her 'SQUAT' in charge of everything. Using executive privilege she promise to give every person with a driver's license a Prius and outlawed beef, poultry, pork and possum and mandated tofu to take their place. To close the deal, she commissioned Al Gore to meditate in the full lotus position in his wife's yoga britches and channel Shirley MacLaine that she might pass the word to Mother Earth that the world has return to the Stone Age. But Shirley kept getting a busy signal so the line broke, the monkey got choked and we all went to heaven in a little rowboat clap, clap.
1:01:24... So they ended up having to blow up the dam. There was no stock footage to show that and the film budget didn't allow for any CGI but the water from the dam actually ran uphill into the crater of the volcano rendering Element-112 inert.
The Director's Cut which was purposely hidden in the basement of the Smithsonian next to confiscated Nephilim bones because it would contradict the theory of evolution were it to be made available to the public. In the Director's Cut, Hutch kept a secret sample of element 112 we're over the next 20 years she got rich developing Pop Rocks, Zotz and Alka-Seltzer which are still on the market today. Of course they messed with the original Alka-Seltzer formula and gave it a 🍋 flavor which can make you puke if you're nauseous. I found that chewing on some Aspergum while drinking the Alka-Seltzer helps it to go down without gagging you, so let's have beans for every meal.
@Glitch N Yr Matrix: How could the film budget consider adding CGI when that wasn't invented until about 18 years later? This film has a 1957 copyright date while the first extensive use of CGI was in the original "Star Wars" filmed in the mid-1970s and released in 1977. 🙄
I especially love the “put trump in jail” part. Especially after today’s rants 3/24/23: “ death and destruction “ upon DA Bragg!😡🤬😡🤬😡🤬😡🤬😱
SPH. Seek Professional Help. For Christs sake it's a vintage movie. Not a Qanon post.
the only thing you said that makes sense is to put trump in jail
Cut out your douche politics. It makes you look stupid.
As an aside to the lengthy rant I just wrote I think it is amazing that the scriptwriters had Hutch being indispensable and had to go into the cavern where it was very dangerous, but Dave didn’t want her to be in danger when it came to blowing up the damn? Ok that was before she professed her love for him, but it was definitely a sexist theme running throughout the film, the other thing that surprises me was just how fast they could get from place to place and country to country, but in the end we all lived “happily ever after” 😀👍🇬🇧🏴🇺🇦
Yep, that was the Fifties for you - sexism FTW. Different times - worse times for sure.
He was quite abusive in his ridicule of her gender 'weakness' @19:15 which kind of spoiled it, but that was 1955...
excellent.
That's what SHE said!
Sure glad these old movies are around, the new ones suck. I like a story that's clean, not all the gor of today's movies.
I sure would like to have that really nice Harley Davidson police special that's in this movie 🍿🎥🎥
Its Not a Matter of IF ~ Just a simple matter of WHEN
Well, there was at least a hundred bucks put into this movie - during the final inundation sequence, there was one nice effects shot of the water swirling round the tunnel... then there was some stock footage, then a bad effects shot, then more stock footage and then a terrible model shot.
Ah well, you pay nothing and get a three second effect that looks good; can't moan really.
Kathryn Grant was strangely pretty in a petulant kind of way, but then when they let her act, she could decently enough. With better dialogue and direction, it could have been something.
But what about Brad? Copernicium is element 112 and exists only in a laboratory, it's most stable isotope has a half-life of only 28 seconds, so they only had to wait 28 seconds and everything would be fine.
This movie was made long before we came up with the other (man-made) elements like that.
I like the part we're he pointed out the the ceiling lamp tilted. It would still be straight up and down. Duh.
