Absolutely love this old film - first saw it in the 70s when I was very young. So it's great to see a colorised version. Acting was quite reasonable for a budget production, and despite a few odd spots, it still makes great viewing today. (2023)👍
The monster special effects where really great for a old classic. Never seen this one until tonight. Thank you for uploading. The color was really nicely done too.
I like how back then they thought that going into space and being weightless would make a guy go crazy. Instead as we now know today, its not going into space but staying on Earth that makes one go insane.
So true, the problems are on earth...... also, anyone who investigates and reads up on current events gets called crazy by "low information" people or "government believers" as I call them

I saw this In theatre back around 1960. I recognized this immediately then realized I had forgotten almost everything about it. Still it was an enjoyable piece of nostalgia, Not as bad as a lot of other s-f movies.
The beautiful Maria Landi is still with us, at 90 years of age . This is the first American film I saw in the US, in the summer of 1959, while vacationing in Key West . I saw it at the drive in movie in Stock Island. I was 11 and it was quite a thrill. I didnt understand the language but I followed the action. Loved it. This is the first time Ive seen it since then and , beside a few small mistakes (like the "Mexican" farmer speaking with an Italian accent and then with a Portuguese accent, lol !) the general story was great . I have the video, but it wont play in my American dvd player. I need to get one that will play it. It's fun to watch . This is one of the better quality "B" sci-fi movies of the era .
A story of an astronaut who is the First Man Into Space, but returns to Earth as a kind of Space Fungus Thing. One of the most ridiculous monster costumes I have ever seen. That's the good thing about Cult Cinema Classics. The channel shows old movies that are so cheesy, they are good for a laugh.
Robert Day directed some very entertaining fantastic films including She starring Ursula Andress, this one and a 1978 TV horror film knockoff of Carrie titled The Initiation of Sarah. I'm surprised all the same that he didn't have a much more successful career than he ultimately did. Thanks for this !
@Zero_Ego Your'e welcome! We do have black & white and color for some films. You can always use the searchbar as well to search a title and see if its in B&W. Cheers!!

'First Man into Space' is a greatly under appreciated sci-fi classic ... Nice to see it in colour - but i would still recommend the Digitally Restored Criterion version as it has a vastly better black and white quality ...
51:14 Very rare Roger Delgado sighting. He was the first actor to play "the Master" on the original Dr. Who. Let's just say it's rare because, through absolutely no fault of his own, Delgado's career was sadly brief.
I guess this might be regarded as the US equivalent of British Nigel Kneale's "Quatermass Experiment". Each featured sending the first man into space with gruesome consequences. I think the Kneale/Hammer variant was the creepier of the two. Well worth a watch, many thanks for sharing...
Очень хороший фильм. Сама идея жертв и риска ради покорения космоса уже положительна. Не супергероика, героика обычных людей, с их потерями и преодолениями.

I remember watching this on VHS when I was on a classic sci-fi binge when I was really, really, really young What I remember specifically about the box was that it totally spoiled the film. It straight up showed a picture of Dan with the word "before" and the monster with the word "after" right on the front.
I first saw this movie at the little theater they had in the American Embassy in Rome, Italy back in the 50’s. My dad was stationed there; I was a little kid and got so scared I never forgot it.
I saw this back in '68 on a local station's Monster Thursday feature. That's the only time until now. I recall having a hard time following it because of all the commercials. For me, the creature was pretty grisly** then. Good to see this again finally 6 decades later. It's a solid rainy day with popcorn kind of movie. Thanks, CCC. ** as opposed to pretty Grizzly. Don't do it!!
Quite good for its time. All the effects were very good - the rocket being released from the B52 and it’s flight into space and the transformed pilot looked suitably repulsive. The colour effects, though far from perfect, definitely made the film more enjoyable. Better than some movies released in the 60s and 70s!
39:18 😂 Okay if I am a nurse or just a plain human being and seeing a door looking like that and hearing strange sounds.....NO WAY am I going to go look and see.

The best coloring job done on one of these films so far. the movie is a fun sci fi horror from the time period.
Thank you Cult Cinema Classics for uploading this fun and great horror/Sci-Fi movie, I so appreciate it!

Es un clásico.
Saw this as a second grader...creeped me out for at least a week.
I watched this on late night TV in 1959 when I was 5 years old - I didn't sleep for a week
@SteveStegmeier 😉
"The First Man into Space" was the first film I saw a kid. It scared the shit out of me!
Yes I Probably first watched it about 1964 and between this movie and the Forbidden Planet I laid in terror many fine nights.

A good movie I love these old movies so much better than many of the ones nowadays
Enjoyed watching this again, saw it as a kid on afternoon movie back in the mid 1960's.
These old sci-fi's never grow old!
But they do get colorized.
take us to warp nine , captain sulu
Apart from the 'science' and notions of space flight being proven all wrong.
Love these old classic Sci Fi movies from 1950s and 60s. I'm a Marshall Thompson fan.

Here in Britain we hid under the blankets from Quatermass's experiment...!

C’est tellement simpliste et enfantin que ça fait sourire mais j’adore ces films
This view from the plane cockpit was remarkably realistic!
That's because it was real! That was one of the very first videos taken in space, overlaid by a cutout of the Y-12's cockpit canopy.
Perfect back then (when I was 2 years old!). Perfect now!♥
i love the control stick up around his neck area.
If you listen closely in this movie’s opening scene, you can hear sound effects from FORBIDDEN PLANET (1956).
Yes.. it's was used quite often..
Marla Landi and Mara Corday we're two of my favorites from that great era!
It's kind of weird thinking that she is kind of hot, when I realize she is older than both my father and mother.
These days we have vastly better special effects and huge budgets- that we use to make worse movies.
Ah hah! .. well at 51:20 we get a visit from ‘The Master’ .. so now we know who REALLY did it 😉 (Always nice to see Robert Delgado appear in anything)
THIS MOVIE IS BETTER THAN MOST OF THE CRAP THE SCI FI CHANNEL PUTS OUT
I KNOW!!! AND IT ALSO HAS A GOOD PLOT AND STORY LINE AS WELL.
What a brilliant plot. The first man in space comes back as a werewolf/vampire monster. What will they think of next?
