You are living the DREAM! Coming home to all those packages full of books... Whoa... I'd probably faint of pure excitement! You *so* deserve it! Have a happy Monday and rest of the week!
I just have to say, i absolutely love the way you speak when reading a blurb of any book. Your diction and intonation is like 99% what convinces me to be more curious about the book you're discussing.
On the whole lost-in-translation 'parcel' vs 'package' thing: I used to work at Guitar Center in Nashville. One day an English man came in to check out the guitars. He asked for a lead. "Lead?" I repeated, not understanding. "Yes, lead. Lead. So I can plug in the guitar." "Oh! A cable!" I promptly handed him a guitar cable. He thought I was an idiot, and I thought 'how wonderful, I've learned a new word!'
@@AbsurdExistentialistit’s pronounced leed ~ so not like the metal. I got caught out with that too in the UK where anything that’s a cable or long string/rope they call it a lead. Charging lead (cable), a pet lead (leash) etc 😅

That's a lotttttttt of book mail. Some of the books I hardly see being discussed on Booktube that I absolutely love and adore: The Mountains Sing by Nguyen Phan Que Mai. River Sing Me Home by Eleanor Shearer. The Art of Hearing Heartbeats by Jan- Philipp Sendker. The Cat I Never Named by Amra Sabic-El Rayess. Four Treasures of the Sky by Jenny Tinghui Zhang. How Beautiful We Were by Imbolo Mbue. All My Rage by Sabaa Tahir.
I absolutely agree. Apart from Japanese authors and sometimes South American authors, diversity is lacking on booktube. I haven't read Mbue yet, but another author from Cameroon: Djaïli Amadou Amal, les impatientes. It won the prix Goncourt des lycéens

4:15 hearing you speak in an american accent threw me off for a second for real😭 i'm american and i hear people do other english accents all the time (poorly) so hearing you do it PERFECTLY in an american accent got me
Sooooo excited for Anton’s debut novel. He’s such a gem. Also intrigued for the new Julia Armfield, I loved her stories in Salt Slow, yet have shamefully not read Our Wives Under The Sea, yet I know I’ll love it. You’ve reminded me to get to it!
Oh my God Jack those are so many books 😮,I did a book haul recently too, cumulating packages and opening them together is an energy booster 😅 I actually like the second version of Paradise Lost.
Hahaha I am from India and used to my colonisers vocabulary too and use parcels.. but I'm currently working in the US as an urban designer and turns out that a single lot of land here is called a 'parcel' and that is probably what the guy thought lolol
Idk why but because of the editing everytime it changed from book to the next package, for a split second it looked like Jack just ripped open the book and everytime I fucking panicked.
Ooooh! Could you do a follow-up on the Linda Barry art/word workbook? I'd love to hear about your experience going through it. I wonder if it's similar to something like those "destroy this" journals
Your videos inspire us. I want to continue working for a world where children are not killed or otherwise protected. However, sometimes I have difficulty focusing on my work. My heart aches for what is happening in Gaza. What do you recommend for concentration?
Good morning Jack. There it nothing better than getting a book or ten in the post! Very exciting. I appreciate you must be reading 25 hours a day at the moment but I'd like to propose something to you. Would you consider reading one of my recent novels, 'With Every Breath '. In return, I'll buy you a book of your choice. Two extra book packages for you to look forward to! You can't blame a chap for trying. 😊
Hi Jack - I know you're a fan of reading different genres, have you ever tried sci-fi? If not, then I beg you to give the Sun Eater series by Christopher Ruocchio a try. I'm no sci-fi gal and this had me hooked! The prose is exceptional with so many beautiful quotes, and the world building is like no other. It's a Name of the Winds meets Dune kind of book. It's told from a first person POV so it's easy to digest and understand. And the protagonist goes through so much he'll break your heart! Please give it a try!
@@johannarm7582 Oh absolutely not. I just love the series so much and I’m sharing it with everyone I know, so thought of suggesting it here as well since I understand Jack’s open to different genres. Sorry if I sounded like an ad though 😂 Absolutely unintentional, just excited!
Please check out Space Struck by Paige Lewis, it's their debut poetry collection and It actually blew me away. So extraordinarily inventive and tenderly heartfelt.
