Pescador Pilot 12.0 Unboxing, Assembly and Initial Thoughts!

- I ordered my Pescador Pilot 12.0 from Dick's. It had to be shipped from the manufacturer and it came faster than I expected! There are several modifications I plan on, including:
Rudder Upgrades
Rod Holders
Cargo Anchors
Anchor Wizard
Fish Finder Install
Custom Kayak Cart

First of all, in what you showed in the video, you do not have the rudder installed properly. You have to turn it to the extreme right position so the pin will drop all the way down...the rudder assembly should be totally flush with the body of kayak - no gap. I Have owned the Pilot for several years and LOVE it...beast of a kayak. It is fast, maneuverable, tracks really well, handles rough weather, and is super stable. The negatives have been mentioned...the rod holders are ridiculous, but there are some great DIY fixes...also the rudder deployment is pretty sketchy.
Congratulations on your new kayak. I bought mine about 4 years ago in Sunburst. Didn't know anyone had a channel using this type of kayak. Really liked your ideas, planning to do some soon. Right now I'm in the process of installing a trolling motor with PWM set-up, all DIY of course. Lots of ideas on UA-cam. Love the yak! We have the same boat. It keeps up with my Hobie out back. Stable, fast, fishable for the it's really a good value.

The “rod-holders” seem to be a common complaint. They’re actually made to accept the Rod-X holders that Perception makes as an aftermarket add-on(money-grab). They are, however, good places to cut out and install flush-mounts.
I was wondering if there was some reason behind the design! And that being the case, it’s still poor strategy as you are the only person I’ve talked to that knows about those after-market piece. Thanks for the knowledge.
Just try to get parts, you can't! Don't lose seat parts! Carry Wrenches and Allen wrenches because the pedal drive system comes apart while your on the water!
