  • In the wake of George Floyd’s death, the Black Lives Matter movement has gone global and a lot of you requested that Asian Boss interview ordinary South Koreans to get their perspectives on this issue. South Korea, of course, has experience with organizing one of the most successful protests in history to impeach their own president.
The opinions expressed in this video are those of individual interviewees alone and do not reflect the views of ASIAN BOSS or the general Korean population.

@@blueraineee Can someone tell me if money donated to black lives matter directly will help bail the violent rioters that caused destruction, and loss of lives?
I am trying to help the movement financially as a foreigner but I do not want to support the violent side that is seemingly using this for their own benefit.
I would be more than happy if my money helped bail some of the people who have been arrested even though they were just practicing their free speech and peacefully protesting for their rights like I have seen on many horrid videos on social media.
I also watched a video of Floyde's brother condemning the violence of the movement so to respect Floyde's family I want to be cautious about this.

That pink Jacket that Jin forgot about if you donate to trusted bail and charity funds (and i'm sure you can look up what can and can not be trusted) its sure to help them out. also, make sure you dont dump all of your money in all one place. some charities have said theyve been quite overwhelmed with the support and the donations and there are still a lot of pools and charities that need help. also to answer your first question, most of these protesters are peaceful. its the police that make these protests violent, and its mostly the peaceful protesters that get shot and arrested. most of the riots and looting died out on the first day, and the looters couldnt have been arrested as all of the police were busy shooting down the actual protesters. i hope this helps you out.

That is because South Koreans fought for democracy over and over against in last 70 years. We went through 3 dictatorships and 1 puppet president. And time and time again, we proved people can change the government and fix the system. America used to be open minded and engaged society up until long period of prosperity and false sense of security brought so many people in US into fake greatness that they think they have. Those who are living under false sense of "great country" maybe should learn true greatness comes from accepting your own flaws.

While in Asia the systems are built to keep the peace.
A country built on violence, torture and abuse of minorities, vs a country built on every citizen including minorities working together to achieve balance and harmony.

George Floyd at the time of his arrest was high on fentanyl and methamphetamine at the time of his death, according to the autopsy report, and goes on to cite his record which includes jail sentences in 1998, 2002, 2004, 2005, and 2007. His 2007 arrest was for participating in an armed home invasion against a pregnant African-American woman, where Floyd held a gun to the pregnant mother’s stomach.
George Floyd is never an amazing person. He is a criminal.
      Criminal Record:
1998: 10 months for theft with a firearm.
2002: 8 months for cocaine offence
2004: 10 months for cocaine offence
      2005: 10 months for cocaine (under 1g)

2007: arrested for participating in an armed home invasion against a pregnant African-American woman, where Floyd held a gun to the pregnant mother’s stomach.
2020: Counterfeit money and possession of meth
Should he die in that manner? Of course, NO! And also, he did not deserve to die and hopefully, His family receives justice. But people should stop making martyr out of somebody who pointed a gun to a pregnant woman's stomach as he robbed her.

      See 3:04.
They are not blind to see the fact that George Floyd had indeed died because of mishandled justice.
Also more than him being black, consider the humanity of thought. Before you view Floyd as Black you must see him first as a human being. Is an ordinary citizen deserving to be killed during an arrest?
You don't have to be black to analyze the evidence and understand that injustice was done.

Also, protests have been very peaceful- the people looting ARE NOT protesters! They are people who are just trying to act out and some of them are undercover cops inciting violence so their friends can use their toys against protestors.

Korea's had plenty of very violent protests in the 70s and 80s against the dictatorship, but the one thing that was for sure was that it was strictly *protestors vs. the authority* ; there was never looting of civilian businesses and homes. The concept of looting during riots/protests is considered absurd in Korea because it is absolutely counterproductive to what the protests are seeking to achieve. I only point this out because I've seen pro-looters take comments like these and claim 'See, what we're doing is understandable, even _____ says so!' and that is so, SO, not true.

The problem isn’t police brutality or racism against blacks It’s a culture war. It’s a destruction of US culture and their moral values.
George Floyd knew the cop that knee him. George Floyd tested positive for Covid-19 and has many underline health issues. The cop was charged with 3rd degree murder in the fastest case they ever seen before a full investigation. And yet people are still mad. BLM is an Organization that makes millions from these protest. Their goal is to get Equity from the government and political power. They don’t care about black peoples. If they do they would stop the violence in black community but instead they increase it by destroying the police department.
Also every time there is a race riots it destroys those black community putting them in more economic turmoil and violence. Making them jobless and homeless. There is a huge gang problem in black communities. Many criminals use the protest as an excuses to loot and destroy and kill cops. Random innocent cops including black cops got killed over a drive by. Also anarchist started the fires burning down building. Hoping to destabilize the government. I feel that not everything is being reported over there. I feel like the second last guy who talked about protesters protecting stores from looters did his research beyond what the others saw. I think if maybe they knew why the protests evolved into violent ones then it would've been a different story. The protests started peacefully but for the most part it's unprovoked police officers, looters and racists that are initiating the violence to destroy the movement. Also knowing the history could've played a big factor but I digress we're in different countries so ofc we wouldn't know beyond what we're exposed to unless we actively look for it.

The problem is deeper than this. There are layers of problem. Media and people confuse rioters and looters from protesters. Those are just opportunists who wants an excuse to riot.
Another problem it’s a cultural problem and also media problems.
The US face race riots all the time. Every time a black person killed by a cop people go loot and riots and burn down the city. I live in a city that faces riots all the time and the murder is done in another city or state. The earliest one I can remember was the LA riot with Rodney King incident. He faced police brutality worst than George but he lived long enough to beg people to stop the violent riots and told people to get long. Over 60 people killed in the riot and 3000 injured. The Roof Top Korean started protecting their community. My city is in Oakland, CA and the LA riots caused our community to Riot and burnt down small businesses, Like Asian markets. I remember several, store permanently closed down. I was a kid. But every time the media make a black person killed by a white person or look like a white person. A riot happens in my city.
People don’t understand the psychology of the issues. People are taught people are racist so they only see racism. It’s build in their language when someone don’t agree with them or give them what they want you are automatically a racist.
Also I have witness Antifa and anarchist over the years also trying to start riots knowing fully well how easy it can start. Just like George Floyd case. The cop that killed him knew George. The other 3 cop with him. One is Asian, one is black, and another white guy. But some how it’s about racism. Some how everyone has to suffer because some people are angry.

    • @pt3033
      @pt3033 4 роки тому +1

So you're saying the only reason they know about it is probably because some of the stores that were looted are Korean owned? Is that the same reason for every country such as France and Australia? Idk how you came up with the conclusion about learning about the protest into learning about racist stereotypes but no. Who's asking who to learn about irrelevant info? Must I spell out that the media in other countries may report and explain things to a varying degree? They only know as much as what's reported so I can't blame them for not knowing but if they researched into it then they would have a deeper understanding.

3 things: 1) I think the conversation could have been pushed further, by discussing the treatment of other races, specifically black people and black culture, in Korea. Do they know any black people? Have they ever witnessed racism here in Korea? What are their prejudices or perceptions of black people? Do they think it's okay for the korean music and fashion industry to profit off of black culture? Are they aware that there are no anti-discrimination laws in South Korea? How do they feel about korean businesses that forbid foreigners from entering? Do they perceive korean comedians in blackface or cartoon characters like Michael from Dooly to be representations of racism? So so so many more questions to be asked. 2) Disappointing to see so many people center themselves in this discussion of BLM. Seems many people are sympathetic but also miss the point. Not Asian Boss' fault but important to note. 3) Please provide links for organizations to donate to like you do for so many other causes.

Oh yeah, no I haven’t looted or destroyed anything and there’s videos of protesters trying to stop it...
“Fun” fact: there’s also videos of police destroying their own cities and equipment.
    2) It’s been discovered the police officer that killed Floyd actually knew him prior to the killing...they had worked together
    3) To the person who said “We have our own problems” in no way was I trying to belittle anyone or be mean; I just wanted to get opinions from everyone (even if they don’t agree)
    4) I forgot who asked, but yes. This “cop” (his name is Derek Chauvin) had a record and was 1 of 4 cops that have been charged in the case; yes, they were charged but NOT convicted (as of now at least.) But even so this just one case.
    5) Yes, the movement is BLM but it’s also a humanity issue regarding systematic racism...there’s a long line of people being oppressed, but 1) Ots best to to have focused efforts and 2) I’m willing to fight for anyone who wants to be treated simply as a human.

Honey, my parents worked hard, I work hard; I've never been oppressed and never been poor. The BLM sends a message to the world that it should give us a privilege we can't get on our own. BLM is the very thing that educates a population of all races that says you can't have what the white man or woman have. It's B.S. The very thing that is meant to empower ends up doing more damage, and educates people within America and outside our nation to believe we will never be able to have anything good. Ty so much for this! As a black woman and veteran ty! ❤️
When one young lady said “it’s discrimination of a person” she is right but also wrong. Discrimination toward a person in general, we’re all human beings so yes, it’s bad either way. It’s be one thing if it was happening to everyone, but it’s not. I’ve seen a lot of my non POCs (people of color) friends speak on this, and they all say the same thing “I never noticed, I never had those experiences” and they’re right 9 times out of 10 they never will. Our constitution in which our country was basically built from the ground up on.. is supposed to mandate that EVERY citizen in America gets treated equally. Right to a fair trial, freedom of religion, freedom to protest however we want, right to bear arms. It’s specific but also broad in some cases. Like the right to bear arms which is in the 2nd amendment. It doesn’t say how many guns you’re allowed to have or bear.. or even own for that matter. Most places are extremely gun heavy and very gun supportive, which can lead to a lot of issues when people only care about making a quick buck, and don’t pay attention to WHO they’re selling guns to...
But, like I said it’d be one thing if discrimination was happening to everyone, but it’s not. It’s mostly and pretty much always happening to POCs, majority black or African Americans. That one young man saying his bosses “tell him to be wary of certain folk” it’s true, it happens. I believe the shop owner where George Floyd made his last stop, before he was killed, talked about this in an NPR interview. A lot of corner stores, or small shops, even large ones, sometimes they teach their employees to be wary of “specific” people..or it’s inherently known to those who work there that someone who’s a POC walks in, you either shadow them, and make it seem like you’re not watching them, or you’re instructed to do so by your managers. I’ve been instructed to to shadow people as well when I used to work retail.
We get labeled as thugs, or criminals based on our skin color, or whatever we happen to wear, or simply doing nothing at all. Trayvon Martin was a kid, shot dead years ago because he was wearing a hoodie and “looked suspicious” a neighborhood vigilante just shot him.. and pretty much got off Scott free and is still roaming around free.
Recently we had the case of Ahmaud Arbery, who was literally going for a jog in a random neighborhood. A retired cop and his son immediately called 911, said they were gonna shadow him, because there had been a string of break-ins in their neighborhood, they followed Arbery with their truck, cornered him, and shot him dead in the street. There was a 3rd person who recognized the son and father and followed them as well.. recorded the WHOLE event... and never released the footage. Arbery was killed In February of this year. He did commit any break-ins.. or rob any houses....America didn’t see his last moments til 2 months later... 2 months...because someone whom I believe worked at the precinct nearby had enough of everyone burying this info, and making themselves out to be heroes.. he leaked it.
Even more recent, before George Floyd there was a woman by the name of Breonna Taylor. She was an EMT who worked on the front lines helping Covid-19 patients... her and her boyfriend were in their apartment sleeping.. when 3 officers decided to barge into their home and start shooting it up. Breonna was killed in her bed. Why? The officers though they were going to arrest a dangerous suspect, whom they didn’t find out til later they ALREADY had in custody. The officers did not announce themselves, they did not knock.. they just barged right in Breonna and her boyfriend’s apartment at NIGHT. One of the officers however did get injured by Breonna’s boyfriend because he was defending his home from whom he thought were burglars. He had a gun and shot at one of them, he was also licensed to have a gun, and he was defending his home and his girlfriend. Breonna’s boyfriend was COMPLETELY in the right.. none of the officers followed proper procedures or protocols.. what so ever.
Things like this keep happening to black people, like myself, and other POCs, that’s why we protest, most of the protests going on in America are peaceful. Some were not, and quickly turned into riots. Initially MANY people were angry about Floyd’s death, rightfully so, we’re tired of this happening and nothing being done. So people did burn and break things in many cities..at the beginning the general consensus was “we’re hurting...we’ve tried to take a knee, we’ve tried to talk, and all it did was get met with more hate, people telling us to quit complaining, and we got called unpatriotic for not staying silent. So if breaking things gets people’s attention SO BE IT” Now it’s calmed down a little, we have a lot of prominent people in the black community trying to stop the destruction, talk to young folk, sometimes the riots are instigated by the cops themselves, white supremacy groups who want some of the protestors to be pegged as the bad guys. Cops have tried to run over peaceful protestors... our own president, when things go SO bad...because for a while they weren’t even thinking of arresting or charging Floyd’s murderers..our own president wanted to recently and probably still, wants to enlist the help from the ENTIRE military to stop everyone.
I say everyone because yesterday he pretty much issued an order to violently force peaceful protesters to move out of the way so he could have a clear path to “address the nation” and then take time for a bible photo op, that ALOT of religious heads did NOT like at all. If he doesn’t care about peaceful protestors he doesn’t care about ANYONE.
All we can do now, is wait til November to hopefully vote him out... because I know a LOT of us.. can’t take 4 more years of this.. I served this country and swore an oath.. but honestly I’m at the point of my life where I don’t feel safe in my own country... and depending on how elections go in November I’m seriously considering giving up my America citizenship completely and living somewhere else. We just can’t take it anymore...

Many European countries are plagued with crime and they are 98-100% white. So no. Secondly your skin colour does not make you any different, we are all human and that's proved by science. It's unfortunate how they view the protesters as the ones being violent when in actuality it's the cops that insight violence on the peaceful protesters. Not only this, but the looters are not involved with the movement, as most of them are looting under the cover of chaos or are undercover police. It's nice to see that they all care, but it's not that we don't want to protest peacefully. We're trying. Even if a protest does turn violent, you have to remember that black people in America have faced injustice for 400 years now. Americans have tried protesting peacefully. So, even if people do start rioting, it's just 400 years worth of anger and injustice and being unheard being released.
