Fractions. Make the bottom number (denominator) bigger. 1 = 2/2 or 4/4 1/4 = 2/8 = 4/16 1 quarter note is 2 '8th notes' or 4 '16th notes' so the '3/4 part' should be thought of as 12 '16th notes' you have 16 16th notes in the first beat and 12/16 or 12 '16th notes' of the second beat
Is there a reason why the double dot is not used extensively.. I've never noticed it. I think I just answered my question. If someone with medium experience is reading it.. they may not be able to do the math as quick..I play fairly well but timing is my Achilles heel.
