One could get used to this uploading schedule. Thank you so much for your work, truly made me improve at a constant rate, that 3000% speed increase is no joke. I'm always coming back to your videos and I always find something new or something that resonates differently with my current situation. Appreciate ya!
This is great- thank you! I just started sharing videos on my UA-cam channel in the hope of making music literacy accessible to all. Learning to read music opens up a whole new world for musicians.thanks for all you are doing to spread the message!
So educational and so much fun! I had a great time revising these key concepts I studied for piano this year while laughing out loud! Keep up the hard work!
Right now I am a bit drunk, I just wanted to understand rythm more since I was having hard time to understand some parts of it and somehow my drunkass found one of the best videos ever made for it. If I understood it in my current situation, even a child can understand it. Quality content for sure.
Thank you so much for your videos! Got an exam coming up and trying to revise all the key 'DR AP SMITH" stuff ready for it, and you have been so easy to understand.
Damn I know nothing about rhythm, especially in notation! Thank you for teaching me what anacrusis is, I thought it was illegal but its real amd very useful!
I don't play in a philharmonic orchestra, but I have played guitar with a lot of different people with various music background. The only thing you have to know is does the music have a 4/4 feel or 3/4. Everyone then uses what they're used to to accomplish that.
Knowing you’re in 3 or 4 can be pretty useful. I’d say that know this kind of counting and notation can be useful for a lot of things other than playing in a philharmonic orchestra though. I use this kind of info to play with all kinds of different bands and ensembles! Of course you can do just fine without this stuff too. Just different goals and ways of making music.
Hello, Can the notes of the singer be subdivided and the beat of the drum is still the same? For instance, the drum does one quarter while the rapper, or the singer does two syllables🎵.
Nope. It’s a legitimate musical term from Italian. In English, retard(accent on the second syllable) just means slow or delayed. I believe it used to be an actual medical term but has since been abandoned, probably because there are better and more descriptive terms, and because of the word being co-opted as a slur. In music, it’s fine. The rest of the time, very probably not.
Please feel free to pause, inspect, digest, practice, review, and rewatch! Everyone gets this stuff at a different pace and some will need more practice and review than others. Good luck!
This "wise" guy got it wrong from the beginnning by saying that changing the rhythm of a song makes the song more unrecognizable than changing the notes. Go ahead an change the rhythmm of any fairly popular song, and anybody with an average musical ear will be able to tell what song it is. But go ahead an change the notes of the song, and all you gonna have is a totally different song.
You didn’t find the happy birthday example convincing? Seriously, if I’m playing in a band and any member plays a wrong note, or even a bunch, it’s not a huge problem, it happens. But if people start playing in rests, missing shots, of the drummer of bassist start messing up the tempo/feel/groove, or put the down beat in a different place, the band is going to trainwreck really quickly. Time and rhythm is so important.
This is great, thank you! I share a free, bite by bite “learn to read music” course on my UA-cam channel in the hopes of making music literacy accessible to all.

Augustine violinist from Malaysia
Uh the 2nd part went above my head, I'd better talk to my teacher and then watch again
What about staccato and legato?
Those are accents/articulation. They would fall under technique and expression and aren’t really part of learning about rhythm.
I appreciate your illustrations, just fyi
Do you have books
I have a trumpet method, but no books on theory. I do teach lessons online though, if you’d like to meet up and work on anything!
plz post the next video
Hopefully soon! Couple weeks likely.

Why do you think it’s click bait?
