  • A dynamic risk assessment involves continually observing, assessing and analysing an environment to identify hazards and remove risk while completing a task. Dynamic risk assessments were initially introduced for the fire service but have been extended to situations which have the potential to evolve.

    VIDEO TRANSCRIPT:
In this course, we're looking at creating risk assessments for hazards where the risks are reasonably foreseeable. However there are occasions where you may be dealing with unknowns.
    For example in situations...
where things are unpredictable or constantly changing,
where all the hazards that will be present aren't known until a job is started,
where new hazards may be introduced during a task,
or where the level of risk may not be known ahead of time.
This is where dynamic risk assessments come in.
They involve continually observing, assessing and analyzing an environment to identify hazards and remove risk, while completing a task. They require some quick decisions about safety. They don't replace a risk assessment but can complement one when you need to assess any unknowns that cannot be predicted or that change during your task.
Dynamic risk assessments were initially introduced for the fire service, but have been extended to situations which have the potential to evolve. They allow for flexibility, continual assessment and changing environments.
