I’ve seen some videos that just show chest compressions but no breathing for the other person. When is breathing for the other person necessary? And when not?
I’ve done 2 first aid causers, one says only compressions needed because the as the heart fibrillates, it slow down when to stop to give breath…so you wasted all your last compressions. These interruptions decrease coronary and cerebral blood flow and have been associated with decreased survival both in animals and humans . Compressions alone help blood flow and oxygen to flow to the brain and other organs too . Better only with compression only,do not stop!
Sure but that oxygen circulating is not eternal, or we would not be needing to breath air to renew it. Giving breaths is OPTIMAL, the only reason why it is not a requirement anymore is that studies showed it increased survival considerably because in general people were very reluctant to administer mouth to mouth, however, if not a requirement, more CPR would be administered without mouth to mouth resulting in more lives saved, SURE with compressions only you are ensuring blood flow, some cells in the body are very resilient and will survive, though it merely buys you time until EMTs arrive, you still are on limited time, as far as fib, that's what the AED is for, to shock VF or PVT.
@@jimmydandy9364 Correct. But, as "taught" in the video, a dying person who has blood or vomit may make you "a bit uncomfortable".... I posted earlier about this. Without action, patient will die. Is your comfort in the slightest way important in that moment? Answer: NO. Do what you must to ensure your patient survives until additional aid arrives. If there is blood or vomit, wipe it on your shirt and do your duty as a human being. Don't be a pussy. I reckon you'd want someone to do the same for you under those circumstances. People have become such selfish pussies I cannot even process it in my mind. As someone who has performed CPR 3 times in my life, I find it shocking that anyone would worry about such trivial things in that moment of having the opportunity to save someone or let them die.
@@ironhorse3497that is the most idiotic thing I have ever heard. Ok now you wiped the blood away but you missed some and the person has HIV and now you’ve accidentally ingested their blood and now you have HIV. IT IS NOT ABOUT COMFORT, IT IS ABOUT SAFETY. Your safety trumps another persons. Compressions do fine enough could breaths be good, yes but it is not required. Regardless as a regular person on the street you do not have to give mouth to mouth and is best not to in most circumstances. Doing those breaths by yourself interrupts the chest compressions which are more vital to their survival and prevents transmission of diseases
I’ve always learnt it as the “Dr’s abc” bc it’s medical so fitting and every letter would stand for a step in the procedure and sometimes they’d call it the “Dr’s abcd” if the defibrillator is necessary but up until now I never really knew how to do cpr itself and now I do
When I was in High school(Mallard Creek, Senior year), my Psychology teacher told me that CPR training was a requirement for graduation. I managed to graduate on Tuesday June 12th, 2018 Eventhough I never did the CPR training.
Thank you, that's very helpful! So, if they are not breathing, you should not check the pulse? Or could it be that hte heart still beats even though they are not breathing?
If the airway is blocked, you won't observe any breathe but there will be pulse and that time you need to clear the airway and cpr is not necessary in that case as his heart is in normal condition
@@AlexPeymaThe European Resuscitation Council recommends Rescue Breaths to be applied by a trained Responder. Meaning that you'll learn this in an up to date First Lecture. If the First Responder is untrained in giving Rescue Breaths, only Chest Compressions are recommended.
100-120 beats per minute... which is about 2 per second. You don't actually have to do 100 beats, you only do 30, but the rate (the speed) is 2 per second. Hope that helps :)

yes they do, still go at least 2 inches (5 cm) deep. Don't be afraid that you might break a rib, if you do, that means you are doing it right. I have broken a few ribs while doing car to adults and kids. It's totally fine.
On a Patient that requires CPR you do not normally feel a pulse. Try to focus on the breathing of the patient instead of the pulse. If the Patient is not breathing, CPR is recommended.
@@kipkipPatrick A Person that requires CPR won't have a pulse. You also do not need to feel for a pulse. Just listen if the person is breathing for 10 seconds. Do you hear breathing sounds or do you feel breath on your cheek/ear? You can also place your hand while listening for breathing and looking at the chest, to check if you can feel the chest rise or fall. You don't need to check the pulse. I think it's ridiculous that SIA training now requires this to work the doors. Not only are we expected to do the police's job with none of their powers or toys, now we have to play paramedic as well?! For basically minimum wage! Absolute bollocks mate.
Grow up mate. And what if you are working the doors have a heart attack and no one assists you because they don’t have the training and knowledge of how to do cpr or because they don’t want to help you. It took 3 hours of your life and saved another persons life but your life revolves around you and fuck anyone else just makes it harder on you. I mean no ones telling you to stay in that job
I assume this course is taking much of its knowledge from the European Resuscitation Council. The ERC currently doesn't recommend checking a patients pulse, to the normal First Responder. American Heart Association Algorithms may differ.
One of the possible outcomes of cpr is the possibility of broken ribs. Person can feel free to sue but unlikely to be successful if there was a genuine need for cpr. Lesson dont do it if you are not trained to identify need
