Landscape… nothing abstract about this…….thankfully!
Extremely well done. I wasn’t confident in the beginning, but it gradually grew into a wonderful interpretation of the scene. I’m impressed!
Thank you.
thank you, Cheryl
Jason, you are wonderful! You are one of the best teachers of landscape painting that I have ever found online and I have been watching videos online close to 15 years! Thank you, wonderful man, for bringing your sensitive painting methods to those of us confined to small spaces
Thank you for your kind words, Marlene!!
Your videos are excellent. You show uninterrupted views of the scene, your pallet, and the painting. This is really helpful. You are also an excellent artist and teacher. Thank you!
Thank you very much! Glad you found it helpful!
Enjoyed the video very much, and incidentally, your kind remark about being appreciative of truck drivers. Thank you for a valuable demonstration!
I love that you record in real time and not time lapse. Thanks.
Absolutely stunning video, the view, the birds singing and your commentary were so well done. I enjoy landscape painting in acrylics, however feel that I am getting important information on colors and blending, composition, aerial perspective from listening to you. Thank you!
Thanks so much! So glad you enjoyed it and have found this helpful!
Love it. Keep them coming from Southwest Louisiana good old United States.
I was going to click you off when you said you used Aizorin Crimson but when I clicked to the end and saw your results I instantly subscribed. Much respect.
Thank you kindly! But just out of curiosity, what is it about Alizarin you don't like? I know that traditional alizarin is on the fugitive side, but I usually use Alizarin Permanent.
I love longer videos!
I have plenty on my Patreon site!
Wonderful demo - so helpful
Thank you for your great painting
Your video voice is well modulated and I can listen for a long time while I paint! I am not painting the same scene and I paint in watercolor, but I catch myself using tips from you as I go along ... not the usual way to use videos, but it works for me! Keep up the good work Jason!
That's awesome Pamela! So glad you find my videos helpful. Thanks for watching!
Si vzameš čas, greš v pokrajino in uživaš v slikanju.
I just found you on Utube and I am really enjoying watching you paint!! I like your painting better than the actual landscape!!
That is very kind of you, thank you very much!!
Thank you for sharing this video, I especially like the way you process the ‘boring’ foreground, very Richard Schmidt.
To paint the background mountain in muted dark blue is also eye opening to me, the result comes out good
Glad to know how to pronounce your name! I enjoy your painting videos! Thanks!
I signed up for plein air painting event in July in Ct with a simular scene. This helps so much! It will be my first time. My hairdresser career training in color theory with haircolor, skin tones, and makeup has trained my eye there. We layer colors on the face, work with under tones to correct etc... lol...I'm excited to give this a try! Your aesthetic and approach fits me to a tea...SNL...🤭🎨👩🎨
That's great! I wish you the best in your plein air event! I know you will have fun!
I appreciated your approach, and got so much more out of it than would with a speed painting. Picked up some great tips and insights. Thank you so much for taking the time to make the video. Just subscribed, and looking forward to watching and learning more. Cheers!
Thanks, Jason. A very nice painting showing how you vary greens to make them interesting. Its great to see what you can do in a set period of time,
wonderful painting! the distant hill with this lovely shadow colour is the real star for me :-)
waiting for blue sky holes in tree branches!
It's always interesting to hear an artist's mentors. :) Nice talk about abstraction and looking for mundane type scenes and challenging yourself to abstract it to make it interesting:)
Thanks so much Julie!
Great painting. I always love to watch you Plein Air paint especially the way you handle distance. 🤗
Thanks so much Jennifer!
Thank you. Very nice painting. Living in NH this time of year, I'm surrounded by nothing but green, its a challenge to get it right. I appreciate your good instruction.
That's awesome Jim! So glad you found this helpful! Greens are a challenge. The trick is seeing the subtle temperature changes in them and realizing they are not usually as green as the stuff that comes out of our tubes.
Thank you for doing real time! And for keeping the reference in view!
What an atmospheric effect!
I hope I can mix colours like that one day!
Nice painting, thanks for the video, I can learn a lot from it!
Thank you for making this!
Love those greens. Superb perspective!
Great painting.👍👍👍
Thank you very much!
Great video. thank you!
Nice work. Thanks for tutoring
Beautiful painting 👌
Muy profesional ! the foregrounds very nice
Very much enjoyed watching your video, Jason. I am painting in an Ocean City MD plein air competition next week and I appreciate from your atmospheric work. I just found your video and immediately remembered your name. I haven't seen you around for a few years. I'm pretty sure we had painted in the same venue(s) a while back. Maybe it was in Frederick, or Solomons or New Hope?..... I remember you had a couple of little children with you. You did and do impressive work.
Thanks so much for your wonderful instruction iv learnt so much from this video☘☘
I'm so glad to hear that Mary! Thanks for watching! If you are ever interested we would love to have you in our workshops.
Awesomest painting.
Thanks so much!
Amazing…thank u
Love your works.
I've been watching a lot of your videos lately to get inspired for my next painting (which is hard for me to figure out what to do.)
At (a young) 72 now, (starting with Crayola and coloring books,) I've loved everything about art from a young age. I mostly work with watercolors.... commissions in the last few years of pets. What I admire the most is your ability to "free fall" so to speak, not getting "tangled up" with perfection. Just "go with the flow." What's the point of fighting for perfection when you can just take a photo?
I liked and subscribed as soon as you started talking about the inflated egos. :p I hate that!!! Love this!!! I'm gonna go check out more of your videos!! :)
It’s dripping into your blue again!
Yup! Love that blue!
Ein schönes Bild, das Blau des Hügels bringt atmosphärische Räumlichkeit, die Krone des Baumes scheint t mir jedoch etwas kompakt, papisch, u differenziert zur Malerei des Hügels oder Gras im Vordergrund....
Danke!
You might reconsider galkyd outdoors. MS tends to break and damage the bonds of oil paint, making for a weak under layer. Or, use real turpentine outdoors, which won’t do that.
Good Job...
Thank you Jose!
Good stuff. Hey I really liked your palette knife and how flexible it is. Can you tell me the brand please. Would love to have one like that. Thx
"Angles and consequent values"...can you give a brief description of what you're referring to? Thanks
Difficult to give a brief description and give it justice. I recommend reading John F. Carlson's Guide to Landscape Painting. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for not time-lapse. Is emerald green somewhat equivalent to Veridian Green? Greetings from Brazil. Like.
where are you ?
i'm in oklahoma
That was very good. Your painting definitely improved on the photo of the actual scene.
Have you tube changed the description area
Not sure what you mean.
What size panel do you recommend for new plein air painters?
I started with around 8x10 and still do that size along with 11x14. It's difficult to cover a lot of real estate when you only have about and hour and a half to get finished before the light changes too much. That is if you want to capture the light how it is and not make it up.
@@JasonTako Thank you for your input. I’m working up the courage to go for it and your channel is inspiring me to do it.
@@mcaputto That's great!! get out there and do it. Don't worry about the results. The success lies in doing it on a regular basis.
We push paint around. Some are better at it than others. We have one thing in common, the feeling we will do better next time.
Amen!!
Why did you make the background hill soooo much higher then in reality? Are you at a different angle then the view you are showing us? I still liked it! I was just confused.
No reason really, it just kind of happened. But bear in mind that cameras are absolutely horrible at showing vertical height accurately. Photos do no justice to mountains. Thanks for watching!
@@JasonTako I LOVE YOUR PAINTINGS! Thank you for answering my question!
@@MegadoseTheOutsiderArtist No problem. Thanks for watching!
Awesome demo, but why no skyholes within the tree?
It's just a reference put your own emotion in it. Do what you want.
Beautiful painting. You might consider changing the title. I feel like I can’t. Trust you now. I have no idea what this had to do with abstracting the painting. Maybe were using the word abstract in a very abstract way. 🤷🏻♂️
By abstracting I mean that you consider the abstract concepts first, such as design, value, color harmony, value masses. Most beginners think trees and leaves when painting rather than dark, neutral, green shape that can be transformed into an interesting design. This is different than abstract art where the abstract qualities may be there, but it's not the foundation for a representational painting. Difficult to put that all in a title.
In japanese it's pronounced TAKO
Thank you for no awful music, and no Timelapse.
LOL!! Thanks for watching!
Time-lapse teaches you virtually nothing; how could it, you just can't keep up! We need time - time to absorb, to see, to suck it all in: or I do, because I'm old, and slow.
The title says “How to Abstract...l wouldn’t call this abstract in any way. Beautiful, but not abstract.
