Joshua...I am also painter. I love painting landscapes. I will be involved in my 1st Plein Air Artist event in Sedona, Arizona this October. I am very excited since I have not been to Sedona yet, even though I live in Las Vegas, right next to our National Spring Mountain Park. You are incredibly inspiring. Your video here, JUST GO PAINT....was greatly helpful. I LOVE your art. You are an amazing artist~ Thank You..!!~ Kimberly
I want to be a part of this paradise! O__O Cant believe this kind of people exist! It is very rare in my country Bulgaria to find and gather two plein air artists - to organise auction afterword is just another dimension. To feel this urge stimulated by the public and the end date must be great catalyst. And that Grand Canyon = duuudeee this is such a experience!
As another Plein Air Painter to another, thank you for making this wonderful video of you and friends painting! I have become addicted to painting Plain Air and just can't get enough of it. We as a whole, must get the peoples of our world more interested and appreaciative of our Art Form. Watching you and friends, and I mean friends, I got tears in my eyes. I wish I had friends to paint with here in my neck of the woods. I have a small group of painters on a list, but that is all it is, a list. I pick a location each month to paint at and rarely does anyone ever come.... So frustrating for me. Anyway, I paint mostly alone but have the best fun and gratification producing my specialty, Watercolors. Please keep up the great work! Thanks with a huge hug,Mike N.
What a treasure to find. I hiked down the Bright Angel Trail when I was 19 years old, well over half a century ago. I'm finally getting to paint, in my older years, but I have to settle for vicarious joy of Josh plein air painting there. I'm going to get out my old photographs tomorrow, and paint along with this video.
Bravo!! Wonderful work and narration. Completely enjoyed. Hope hubby gets to go there some day. I will enjoy through works like yours and your compadres.
Thanks you for taking the time to make this video! Its really cool to see all the efforts that go into plain air. I would love to go to this event sometime.
Amazing UA-cam video. Glad I have attended one of your workshops as the video meant that much more. Glad your success is following you down the path. Jane Mercer, Durango
Excellent video! Thank you so much for sharing it. What a lot of work. I hadn’t realized all that goes into those events. I have your book and it’s great 👍😉
Awesome, Bro. Nice work. I've been doing a lot of backpacks into Grand Canyon to work on art over the last 8 years. What a magical experience! I'm a total unknown as an Artist, but I'm really enjoying myself.
Josh, is there ANYTHING you don't do supremely well? You're like a renaissance man! LOVE this video and the words you use to explain and express what we need to know.. Thanx for sharing
As a professional environment concept artist working completely digitally I really enjoyed watching this, thanks for sharing! Makes me want to get into plein air even more.
The sketch pad you used - is this something you purchased? I like that it combines pad with the pens in what appears to be a zippered case for easy carry and use. Could you name the brand? Thx
Very nice, Joshua! Good to see some views of the Canyon other than the "stock" ones everyone does, usually from photos; you know, "standing on the precipice", looking down, and across. Boring!!!!, after you've seen your first 200 or so! Guess you need some good legs and back to get down and up the Canyon though! So, I'll be up on the rim, looking down, too! ;)
This is such a great video - thank you for sharing! I've never done plein air painting, but I want to get into it, since I'd like to improve the environments in my work. I'm just about to take a workshop with Roland Lee and you've got me inspired to get at it!
Absolutely brilliant best thing ive seen on you tube for a long long time, makes me want to be in the grand canyon (UK based ) also what was the little pochade you did your notans on ive never seen one of them
Hooray ...!! The Brand NEW Film is out on da U-tube:>"Rim to Rim: Grand Canyon Celebration of Art 2018" and it is lookin' SWEET... A document that testifies to All the Love and Invention it took to produce the Entire Body of Work, combined with no small amount of Blood , Sweat and Tears! I truly hope that You All ENJOY The ADVENTURE!!!
thank you for a very inspiring video! Beautiful scenes! Only one thing I Think could be different: the Music. It makes it hard to hear your speak.Music is ok but not with lyrics and more that take over everything else. lounge or Classicmussic that tones out when you speak. But I really like everything else!
Yes, the "music" is not helping, but rather it is intensely annoying anyone trying to learn something from this otherwise good video! I live in the desert too (Tucson), it's a fantastic place to paint even better than the Sierra where I used to live.
i was so excited to see joshua been on you tube but so extremely disappointed when. trying to hear what he was saying being drowned out with loud music. why can't people talk without music??????
Thank you guys for commmenting!! "The Ageless, Rosie Sandifer" is one of my heros!! Had a lot of fun filming it and HUGE props to my videographer, Brett Carollo!
painting competitions !......who ARE these people...by the book plein air painters...........it's wonderful that we now have uniform codes of painting...it was just TOO confusing when artists painted in so many different ways.........................and now it PAYS real damned good
Some people are incredible artists but they don't have the money to travel all over the place and get their name out there. So they can't get into these competitions because they don't have a name. I think competitions should be open to anyone.
Some are open to anyone, but others are invitation only, once you have proven yourself and your abilities... we all pay our dues and try to climb the ladder. It would be hell to have 2,000 artists show up with everyone trying to paint the GC for a week.... Start with trying to hook up with plein air clubs in your area and just get outside and enjoy the experience!
@@kbld1 right a travel log with some painting involved. Lots of instructional vids on you tube try draw paint repeat, good stuff and usually you can search a name painter who's work you like and find some good stuff there.
Quality of most of the fashionable 'plein air' paintings are certainly quite mediocre and shallow w.r.t content. With all the expensive gears, transportation facilities etc they cannot reach the standards of 19th c artists. Imagine Hudson school artists producing those wonderful sketches traveling on horseback. They could have gotten killed during the expeditions.
Spectacular video about and amazing place the talented artist who paint this the Grand Canyon.
"I've satisfied many a collector with Rimjobs over the years".
You know damn well what you did there.
Great stuff 👍🏻
What a great video, Josh. You are a natural teacher and your energy is flipp'n amazing! Kuddos to Rosie for making the trip down too.

You are a modern master Josh. Really impressive video and clearly a soulful experience.
Beautiful photographs and video! Thanks has been years since I saw the Grand Canyon is nothing like it in this world!

That was extreme plein air painting. Loved all the view and trails you showed of this beautiful area. Your paintings were amazing too!

Excellent video capturing all elements of this event.
Particularly the rim jobs
I'm 2 minutes in and I already love this film...!
Awesome video, Josh! Thanks for putting this together!
Rosie!! ♥️ Thanks so very much for sharing this with us, Josh. You've really summed up the trials and triumphs of painting on location.
Man, watching this makes me want to get my paints back there as soon as possible. So great!
Very nice work, track, festival and video! Bravo...

Great video, id love to see your most used colors on your pallet
The sketch pad you used - is this something you purchased? I like that it combines pad with the pens in what appears to be a zippered case for easy carry and use. Could you name the brand? Thx

Wow. Great hustle!
Really enjoyed the video!
"I've satisfied many collectors over the years with rim jobs. " I lolled hard, you snuck that in there.

Love it Joshua.
Josh- Great vid- great work. But what else would we expect! Keep the faith. Peace out- Shawn
Awesome stuff Josh, so inspirational!!
Very interesting and a beautiful place to paint but it seems that painting is being turned into a sport?
Very inspiring, thanks.
Hope such an event like this one in France!

Hey Joshua I ordered your easel but doesn't know when it's coming. Could you please come back to me.
I like your plein air easel , where can I find a similar one ?

How do they deal with drying of the paint if it is sold the next day? And varnishing? The buyers buy them vet?
Great stuff
Felicidades 🎊

"I set a goal of 15,000. Which means I had to paint a minimum of 30,000 for the whole event."
Does 15,000 and 30,000 refer to dollars?

@@kbld1 right a travel log with some painting involved. Lots of instructional vids on you tube try draw paint repeat, good stuff and usually you can search a name painter who's work you like and find some good stuff there.
painting with sun glasses ? and a wet drench shirt ? with a stiff face expression ? you cannot control nature specially the heat.
Come to Islam n success
