I'm not sure why one would accept lower remuneration when working remotely? Surely, work responsibilities and duties remain irrespective of one's physical location.
Its pay cut within reason. Not massive pay cut. And remote is useless if you are constantly on meetings or zoom calls asking you to join effectively pulling you out of the zone.
I would spend more than 10% of my salary if i have to go to the office everyday. Not just petrol and parking but eating outside and time as well. There are many factors that, in my case, would be worth the pay cut. We still go to the office just once a week for team meetings where we do catch ups about the different projects this can also be easily done by group video call.
The point isn’t how much I make or save by working remote. The point is if I take a 10% pay cut the company is making 10% more profit, plus the increase from not having an office. No way, I wouldn’t take a 10% pay cut just so they can make more profit.
I work in the engineering field. My company allows us to work from home, but I don’t really like to do so. I find it harder to collaborate if I can’t just go grab someone and talk to them, especially if I need help with something. There’s also just my personal issue of being too easily distracted at home
You still end up with a savings on vehicle wear and tear (obviously fuel, but also tires, oil changes, drivetrain fluid changes, paint chips and dings obtained during commuting/parking lot). A one time 10% pay cut (assuming you get pay raises each year) far exceeds those costs and cost avoidances on the your car pays for that cut quickly!
On average pay increase is 3%. Inflation is 10-15. You would be lucky to make it past the paycut in 3-4 years assuming you last that long. People seem to forget layoffs are around the corner.
Unpopular opinion, but when I'm job searching, I consider remote jobs to be less desirable than the in-person jobs. The reason is that the human brain learns to associate certain places with certain activities, and if I worked from home, it would be more difficult to keep my work and personal life separate. (Studies have found this to be a common downside of working from home.) Now, if I had the space for a home office, I might feel differently about this.
@@asadb1990 If you had read the whole comment, you would know that if I had that option, I would perhaps consider it. But that is not an option for me.
@Sed_Contra that was just an example. There are many ways to separate work space even in a single room. I have a house in canada that im renting out while im in usa. My apartment in usa is small. But i make do. Its possible. Lol quit complaining and look towards increasing your lifestyle. It won't happen overnight but you have to take steps to work towards that.
@@asadb1990 I wasn't complaining at all. I prefer to work in an office for the reasons stated in my original comment. It is not a priority of mine to work from home, so it is not something that I will be working toward. I'm glad you have found a way to make working from home work for you and that you enjoy your lifestyle.
N7 - yep, actually I am currently leaving a company, where I spent 6 years, because I have a new manager since 1year. And exactly that is the reason why I took this decision.
Taking a 10% pay cut would hurt me a lot more than remote work would help. For me, gas isn’t all that expensive because I drive an efficient car and it’s just relatively cheap where I live. I haven’t worked a full year at my job and current house yet, but I’ve extrapolated my fuel cost to be around $800/year. A 10% pay cut would be $6,750. Then I’d also increase my utility usage because I’d need to maintain my house’s temperature and I’d be using my own facilities throughout the day. My rent is also really cheap, not just for my area but in general. That pay hit would be a serious hindrance. I also don’t have a desk as of yet and have enough to pay on my furniture loan as it is
While it may be true that companies may miss out on talent by not offering the remote work, the odds that an applicant will get that job exponentially decrease because the applicant is now competing with a much larger pool of applicants for that position.
I’m starting to look for another job specifically because of lack of appreciation and or support from management. I have been at my current job coming up on 3 years and need to be here 5 years to vest into my retirement and benefits packages. Once I hit that mark, unless things change I’m done.
Remote work with my company means that I dont work at the main building, even though I work at one of my customer's locations. I would love to work at my home once in a while, but my customer feels I must be physically there.

Women owned businesses is such a stupid concept to praise based on no valid information. Why does it matter what sex the person is who owns it? If its a good business it will succeed if its bad it SHOULD fail. The stupidity of that statement is astounding. It would be racist if I said "there should be more white owned businesses" same if I said "there should be more black owned businesses" so how do you not consider yourself sexist to say "there should be more female owned businesses". Either that individual is good at running a business/ treating customers right and reading/reacting to the market or they are not, regardless of race, sex, country of origin or any other character trait that beyond their control.
I knew a electrician with his own business that he put in his wife's name because it allowed him to classify it as minority owned. Apparently there are government contracts that stipulate the business needing that 'minority ownership'.
I'm not saying I would leave a job solely because of lack of appreciation from my manager. However, it would be a contributing factor.

Time and resources wasted on commuting. Me personally, f the job site is an hour away, I may consider a pay cut for remote work

Not to mention the time commuting. If it's an hour each way and you do an 8 hour day, the commute is an extra 25% for time spent.
You have to account for increased energy costs in your home. Also, any other costs to outfit a home office.
Dell just forced a bunch of employees back to the office after a very short notice.
I've seen that with several companies.
Informative!! Nice 🙌
Paycut for working remote is a slippery slope..... You should get paid the rate for the job....

Is 22% included jobs that can't be done remotely
I enjoy watching your videos, keep up the awesome work you do
Love your videos!!! You have helped me a lot. I now know how to say fuck you in corporate
I'm surprised by the 22% . . . I expected between 30 to 40% with remote working.
Game on!

I can not work remotely.. Choice by my managment.

Well for example an electrician or welder cannot be in remote work
Why would you take a pay cut to work remotely if your working remotely saves the company money
If it saved you money too? Do you want it to be a lose lose or a win win scenario?
I have a good job, it is not adversarial like your videos. Who would work under those conditions? Is that a reality for many people?
it is when i am weak, that i am strong the bible says. Supernova

I love fun facts

No remote....... reset you thinking about the size and type of business. Vets, docs, mechanics, blue collar workers, etc
I wish one of these l legit remote jobs would find itself in my search.
