  • The Pink Jackson is one of those guitars you would never associate with John, but when he started using it back in 2015 a lot of John Mayer fans fell in love with it. Now on the Sob Rock Tour it seems the Pink Jackson has returned... or has it?
    Great footage of it used live here:

    This is the first tour I've really been preferring the Silver Sky, although the Jacksons are a fun change of pace

    I like to think John was inspired by Bob Weir's hot pink stratocaster he used in the 80s, and recently brought back out to play with Dead and Company / Wolf Bros!

      Could be, I think the first Jackson predates the silver sky though. And there’s also the fact that there’s a hum bucker in the bridge, which there are no humbucking silver skies. Someone who knows more than I do should also comment here

      Doesn’t make sense as to why he would do that. If he wanted a strat he would’ve used one. Pickups are like 85% of a guitars tone.

    I’ve looked around and don’t see any info other than your comment here. How do we know the LTH video guitar is indeed not ‘Roxy’ pink? I just saw John at Nashville last week (your screen grab from Catherine Spear), and he never donned a pink SS. I was excited to see the Jackson but disappointed to not see a Roxy in action:(

    For someone who was “done” with fender, he sure does use a lot of fender owned guitars, from jackson to the blue charvel he loves. Not to mention that i saw him in concert right before the pandemic and he used his PRS guitar for only 2 or 3 songs, while still using his fender rig for 90% of the concert… this current sob rock tour is the first where he’s been favoring the PRS. Guessing they must’ve reminded him they paid him too much money to endorse their shit guitars.

      Why are you so angry

    • @JustinJeske
      @JustinJeske  2 роки тому

      He’s not angry just rather misinformed considering John played the Silver Sky most of the time during the 2019 Tour, it was the main guitar every night. Plus PRS does not force their artists to play their products. To say they reminded him to endorse their stuff makes no sense when John isn’t even using the JMOD amp this tour.

    Some pics shown here seem like the guitar is not hot pink. Looking at the Wild West ad, it says the guitar is Platinum Pink. Looking at current Jackson guitars in Platinum pink (2022), this is NOT hot pink. Lest anyone should argue that maybe the name Platinum Pink was applied to different pinks over the years, Jackson’s own website says that Platinum Pink is what was called Bubblegum Pink in the 80s. I couldn’t care less about John Mayer and have never seen him or his guitars other than in this video. But it does seem that his guitars are almost the same as the guitarist’s in the official video for “How Can We Be Lovers if We Can’t Be Friends?” by Michael Bolton. That guitar is bubblegum pink, not hot pink. So it doesn’t seem like either of Mayer’s guitars are hot pink. Where do you get “hot” pink from?
    In fact, this Wild West video shows a hot pink Jackson, and the color is nothing like Mayer’s guitars, despite the sparkle.

    • @JustinJeske
      @JustinJeske  Рік тому +1

      Dude I’m literally saying “hot pink” as a generic saying for an 80’s pink colour, not the specific, exact colour of the finish… lol.

    • @Dr.Jekyll
      @Dr.Jekyll Рік тому +1

      @@JustinJeske really? Then why not just say pink? Hot pink is a specific shade range of pink. I’m just going by the words you chose to use. I didn’t put the words into your mouth. You did it on your own, over and over, throughout the video. But these are not hot pink. It’s confusing. Don’t blame me for straightening out the confusion you are unintentionally causing.

    • @JustinJeske
      @JustinJeske  Рік тому +1

      @@Dr.Jekyll 😆 jeeze man, any reasonable person can understand what I am referring to in the general terms to describe a wide range of colours that you could call “hot pink”. Regardless of what the specific finishes by Jackson are actually called. You can easily understand I’m referring to a bright, pink Jackson Mayer plays. It’s not confusing if you don’t take it literally and can understand something being used in this context.
      I’m also not blaming you for anything, I literally just said how I used the term. Yet you somehow inferred I am from my simple response, which is another example of your inability to understand context. So thanks for a rather… interesting conversation today, I’m not gonna waste anymore time trying to explain this so don’t expect a further reply.

    • @Dr.Jekyll
      @Dr.Jekyll Рік тому +1

      @@JustinJeske Twice you use the term literally, but then you tell me not to take what you say literally. Do you know what “literally” means?
      Then you say you’re not blaming me for anything, but you imply I am not reasonable and then “literally” state that I am unable to understand context.
      My points are clear. You call it hot pink when it’s not. The fact is, I called you out on it, and instead of correcting yourself, you dug in and are now accusing me of not understanding your misnomer.
      It’s clear that you’re the one who is unreasonable. And possibly even colorblind, but I don’t really know. What I do know is that you’re literally calling something hot pink when it is not. Any reasonable person can see that.

      I have a Custom Soloist that Grover built for me. I was at NAMM in New Orleans in 1985 playing for Celestion. A friend arranged and introduction with Grover at his hotel one morning. I told him I had been playing a friends and fell in love with it. He agreed to build one for me. He said "What color do you want?" I told him I didn't know (really didn't care...I just loved the way it played) He said, "Well David, you play all the time so it's going to be pink on platinum." I said, "Ok, but why?" "Because if anyone ever steals it you'll find it." I agreed. I still have the guitar. It actually turns colors in different lighting...green, yellow and has the most extraordinary neck. Mine is SSH with a Kahler tail. Pink on platinum.
