The Secret of Hitler's Speech

  • Speeches come in all shapes and sizes, and can serve a wide range of purposes. From inspiring and motivating audiences to informing and educating them, speeches are a powerful tool for communication and connection.
Some common types of speeches include persuasive speeches, which are designed to convince the audience to take a particular action or adopt a certain point of view. Informative speeches provide factual information on a particular topic.
So I spent hundreds of hours studying the most iconic speakers, from Martin Luther King to Frederick Douglass. Hitler also possessed some public speaking technique. It’s widely known that Adolf Hitler was a masterful orator, able to captivate and inspire large crowds with his powerful speeches. While his message and actions were despicable, it’s important to acknowledge the persuasive techniques he used to sway the masses.
Hitler’s speeches were characterised by his use of emotional language, repetition, and grandiose claims. He appealed to the fears and prejudices of his audience, and presented himself as the only solution to their problems.

Honestly makes so much sense. First hand accounts always describe how Hitler would start off slow in his speeches and it would slowly escalate. By the time he was done even the skeptics would be riled up by his speech. Apparently he also did something similar in private conversations. People would be talking with him and he would suddenly start going on a rant which would end with him basically screaming as if he were giving a speech. Sometimes he would go on talking for hours as well.

It was not just the rhythm of the speeches, it was the words, the specific vocabulary, the tone of voice, its nuances, the postures, body and face expression, perfect timing and synchronization spoken word- body movements, EVERYTHING. Hitler himself spoke about this in his book and he talked about how impressed he was with Mussolini and his way of drawing crowds with just his tongue. That is largely why Hitler saw Mussolini as his main inspiration.

Orators like Hitler and Mussolini were skilled at using body language and performance to captivate their audiences. In the past, movies and TV shows focused more on dramatic gestures and expressive performances, unlike today's more realistic approach. Words can convey drama, but the impact of body language is often overlooked. Trump, for example, incorporates some of these techniques, which is why he has a strong presence. Preachers, especially in black churches, also use powerful gestures and vocal delivery. There were many reasons why Germans and Italians followed these leaders, but the way they utilized these techniques in their speeches played a significant role in winning the hearts of their countrymen.

He's right when he says that the words don't carry. If you read George Orwell's review of Mein Kampf (which you can read online for free) he says that you can feel the attraction of Hitler's personality through Mein kampf's "clumsy" writing and especially more so if you listen to one of his speeches. I don't think Orwell ever understood German but if that leftist felt an attraction to Hitler then this man must be right. There is something about Hitler that attracted and pulled so many people towards him. I don't think we will ever know. Charisma, you either have it or you don't.
